Cannot seem to boot after flashing BadBoyz rom - ZTE Axon 7 Questions & Answers

I am not able to boot after flashing the BadBoyz rom, I am not even installing gapps yet.
I have an unlocked bootloader and the latest official twrp recovery installed.
Following the directions within the BadBoyz discussion is a tad confusing so I may have these steps off.
Checkout the SVN code repo for the ROM
Performed an update, just in case
Ran the batch script to generate the ROM
Download ZTE_A2017U.B15_NOUGAT_Stock_System.zip
Download A2017UV1.1.0B15_bootstack_by_DrakenFX.zip
Boot to TWRP
Make sure system is mounted read-only (ro)
Using TWRP, Goto Wipe, Advanced Wipe, check Dalvik, Cache, Data, and System (I have also tried without System)
Goto main menu, Goto Install
Flash A2017UV1.1.0B15_bootstack_by_DrakenFX.zip
Flash ZTE_A2017U.B15_NOUGAT_Stock_System.zip
Using TWRP, Goto Wipe, Advanced Wipe, check Dalvik, Cache, Data, and System (I have also tried without System)
Goto main menu, Goto Install
Flash BadBoyz rom zip
Attempt to reboot
I get stuck at the bootloader screen (the screen that says "Your Device software can't be checked for corruption... etc"
Nothing happen from here on out
Any ideas?

encryption password on boot

on my A2017U After unlocking the bootloader and having twrp 3.0.4 installed I went to install resurrection remix and gapps and upon boot it asks for a password that I had never set up. before installing the ROM i formatted the data and wiped everything. What do I need to do? I reloaded a stock rom and in the settings it says the phone is encrypted. I've tried searching for answers to this but I haven't been able to find anything..

I flashed it again, formatting data before flashing everything, still came up with the dialog to inter password. I rebooted into twrp and formatted data again, reboot, still asks for password

updating TWRP to latest build and I still have the same issue
If you Install another ROM, after wiping everything, is this problem still there?
Delete locksettings.db?

Are you sure you are ACTUALLY USING the 'Format data' button? Wiping won't do anything to the encryption (i'm asking just to be sure).
Otherwise try doing this:
-Format data, wipe system, dalvik, cache
-Flash Universal Bstck
-Flash your modem
-Flash the ROM
-Flash either noverity-opt-encrypt-axon7 (I think the name was that one; just make sure it is for the axon7 or ailsa_ii), or SuperSU/Magisk which should have that packaged in.
This really shouldn't happen...

yes, I am actually using format data button and typing yes. I will try using the noverity later this evening and give you a followup
If I remember this right you have to use both in twrp,
factory reset and format data, I read this here on XDA or Reddit before I unlocked my bootloader.

this is what I did.
1. Boot to TWRP
2. wipe/factory reset
3. advanced wipe everything but sd card and usb
4. format data, type yes
5. install ROM and Gapps
6. boot.
everything loads okay except I get it asking for password
I have not tried another ROM yet or the noverity-opt-encrypt-axon7 I will have to do those later tonight.
One more thing I was going to try is remove the lockscreen pin/fingerprint on the stock before doing anything

Do this after you flashed rom and gapps, only factory reset and format data, no need to wipe other stuff.
Edit: I did this directly after the unlock, I flashed the latest official twrp through the unlock twrp version, rebooted to twrp, advanced wiped caches and data, not system, flashed bootloader and modem from the Los thread for my axon version, flashed dark rom with gapps, rebooted and run into the same issue as you. Back to twrp, factory reset, format data, then reboot and everything was good ....., Or Format data and then factory reset, try both if necessary.

Another thing you could try is booting to the bootloader and trying "fastboot format userdata"

You just need to wipe data cache dalvic after flashing the ROM
You have the factory reset step in the wrong place. Do it after the rom and gapps installation...
Essentially the phone is still encrypted though factory reset . You need to get rid of the encryption AFTER you flash the new ROM...
Change the data file system to ext4.

This did the trick.
Flashed bootloader, modem, rom, gapps. factory reset and format data. boot to password, reboot to twrp, factory reset, format data, reboot to working rom no password. Thank you and to everyone else for your help!

This seemed to do the trick for me.
To change the file system type in TWRP 3.2.3.0:
Go to 'wipe', then 'advanced wipe' and select 'Data', press 'Repair or Change File System' and then 'Change File System' to EXT4. It will say "format" which often means "delete" but didn't remove the ROM I had flashed moments before.
I also did this below first- but without doing a re-flash of the bootloader and modem:

Idk if this will help with your use case, but for other users, it can be good to know.
but for the stock ROM: Settings -> Security -> Screen Lock -> Enter your pin -> It should ask you if you want to shut off the password on boot up

Boot loop op5 after oos 5.0.1 flash through twrp.

I followed the following steps to flash oos 5.0.1 :
1. Update TWRP to the latest Codeworkx TWRP from the link posted
2. Reboot Recovery and Take a Nandroid of your existing ROM just in case you need it
3. Wipe > Advance Wipe > Select Dalvik & Cache > Swipe to Wipe
4. Install Menu > Select OOS 5.0.1 Full Rom Zip > Swipe to Flash
5. Flash Magisk 15.2 (Recommended for Root)
6. Wipe Dalvik & Cache
7. Reboot Recovery to make sure TWRP stays
8. Reboot System once recovery boots again.
i did this on my op5 rooted and encrypted .
so i followed all the steps precisely but in the end when i tried to boot into system it bootlooped (waited for hours to see if it really takes time on first boot). also when i open file manager in twrp it just shows weird long file names .
Yes I experienced the same thing too. I presume it's a problem with decryption after the update. I had removed all lockscreen security before updating (for nandroid). Maybe it was due to that? Would like someone to elaborate too.

As your device is encrypted so first you need to decrypt it so for that just boot into twrp select wipe and select format data and type yes as it will for format your entire data including internal storage... the most first step is to backup your internal storage in pc and apps through titanium backup and save that in pc and later decrypt it once your device is decrypted just enable MTP in twrp and copy files in storage and flash it.

Here is the simplest one for you
https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-5/how-to/official-oxygen-os-5-0-problems-rooted-t3724616
Format data is must required for booting.
I was also rooted and encrypted using 4.5.15 and this is the method I followed and it worked:
Downloaded OnePlus5Oxygen_23_OTA_028_all_1801031502_04d7cc5. zip, twrp-3.2.1-0-universal-codeworkx-cheeseburger.img and Magisk-v15.3.zip.
Rebooted to TWRP and installed the Codeworkx TWRP using the Install->Image option inside TWRP.
Rebooted to TWRP again to make sure that my TWRP was updated.
Entered WIPE from TWRP main menu and used the 'Format' option to Format the Data and typed 'Yes'
This deleted my Internal Storage so I had to backup everything beforehand.
Then used advanced wipe to wipe Cache and Dalvik.
Mounted the internal storage by using the Mount option from TWRP main menu.
I was having problem copying files to the internal storage so I rebooted TWRP and the problem was fixed.
Copied the OnePlus full update and Magisk zip file.
Installed the OnePlus full update and Wiped Cache and Dalvik and rebooted the device to make sure that the OS boots.
Then rebooted the device to fastboot to flash Codeworkx TWRP again because it was unavailable.
Booted into TWRP and flashed Magisk.
I am now on Oreo and I hate the way Ambient Display looks right now.

Problem installing omnirom android 9 on oneplus 5

i follow the instructions as per omnirom thread... flash the vendor/firmware, wipe data , reboot recovery, and flash the rom, but the omni rom does not boot at all and just shows the OMNI sign on/off. How should i proceed?
Which ROM were you on? What Firmware were you on? Were you Encrypted? Did you only Wipe /Data or did you wipe everything?

Lineageos 15.1 (android 8.1)
I first flashed OOS stock firmware, then OOS, then LOS.
I format data and then wipe dalvik cache, cache, data, system.

Is your Recovery up to date? I'd recommend the latest Codeworkx TWRP. Did you already have the Vendor partition on your device before attempting to flash Omnirom?
If in doubt flash full OOS 5.1.3 and OTA all the way up to and including 9.0.1. Then reinstall TWRP by fastboot, wipe and format everything and then flash Omni.

I still tried, it does not work. My phone got bricked, so I used MSM tool to unbrick and after that I got Nougat 7.1.1. I upgrade my Android to 8.0 (OOS 5.1.3) from system update, and after that update another one came, Android 8.1.1 ( OOS 5.1.7). I then unlock bootloader, flash twrp, flash vendor/firmware, wipe data, flash Omnirom but I get stuck into the omni loading screen. The phone does not load.

Okay, i'm not seeing anything about a Format operation there. Wipe does not equal Format. I've just finished setting up Omnirom 9 on my own OP5, so it does work. (Great ROM btw)
Backup everything from Internal Storage to your PC, including all the installation files. The following will wipe your storage!
1) Boot into TWRP
2) Wipe Menu, Advanced, Select all Partitions manually and Wipe
3) Wipe Menu, Format. (Type Yes when prompted)
4) Reboot Menu, Reboot Recovery
5) Copy Installation files from PC to Internal Storage
6) Install Menu, Queue up and install zips in the following order:
i) Vendor/Firmware
ii) ROM
iii) Gapps
7) Wipe Dalvik/Cache when prompted
8) Reboot
9) Set up and done.

The only difference between the two of us that i can see is that i flashed OOS 9.0.1 and booted into it once before doing the steps above.
Don't know if it's relevant but the Vendor/Firmware that i used was 9.0.1 also:
https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/11o0FxZ_rw5lhthGz8_iyYEXBt0dwiv3x
Make sure you nuke everything before starting. Wipe and Format everything. Move installation files across and follow steps.

I flashed OOS first and booted everything and I followed the steps and got everything right, but still I get stuck with a bootloop that does not load OmniROM.
Works fine for me;
Flashed the latest OxygenOS. Now you dont need to worry about flashing firmware later in the process.
Enabled unlocking the bootloader in developer menu.
Rebooted into bootloader and flashed the recovery image from clockworkx and booted into twrp recovery.
Wiped everything and formatted data as well.
Reboot recovery.
Flashed rom. I always use sideload but that should not matter. Dont flash anything else; first reboot into your working system.

Cannot root OP5 via Magisk

I cannot root my OP5. I have followed all of the directions unless I'm missing something. A week ago I previously switched to LineageOS but didn't like it so far. So I'm comfortable flashing ROMS.
1. I then downloaded the OOS official ROM, then loaded.
2. Update to most recent OOS (9.0.3) via OTA
3. Followed by factory reset to completely clear TWRP (which was downloaded via official website).
4. Downloaded TWRP
5. *Flash* No verity-opt-encrypt
6. Rebooted to TWRP
7. Downloaded Magisk zip, then flashed
8. Downloaded Magisk apk
9. Open Magisk app *shows* "Magisk is not installed*
I'm thinking maybe I've messed my phone FUBAR up or just completely doing wrong.
*sorry if this has already been answered as well or is posted in the wrong category*

You did not mention any file versions from rom, twrp, magisk.
What does the twrp log says? Are there any errors why magisk isn't installing sucessfully?

Sorry for not including the rom type. I was gonna try & run the official stock rom, while rooted. I know it was the TWRP from the official TWRP site "twrp-3.2.3-0-cheeseburger.img". Magisk was the most recent version a "Magisk-v18.1.zip". I don't think there were errors, but I can definitely try again.
I am going to try following those instructions. With me already being on "OxygenOS 9.0.4" via OTA update would I just need to cancel some parts? And to make sure that I flashed blu-spark correctly. I just drag then flash that while under TWRP correct?
[Clean Flash] For Users with an Unlocked Bootloader and TWRP Recovery:
Download the full ROM zip from the downloads section above
Transfer the zip to the root of your device's internal storage
Only needed if you are coming from Oreo or if you use an old TWRP recovery that's not the latest and Pie compatible: Remove the compatibility.zip from the downloaded full ROM zip with either MiXplorer or Total Commander (not with any other tool!) on your device itself
Reboot to TWRP recovery (make sure you're using siankatabg's TWRP if you're on Oreo or codework's TWRP/blu_spark TWRP if you're on Pie) and take a nandroid backup of your existing ROM
Flash Magisk Uninstaller (recommended)
From the TWRP menu, Wipe > Advanced wipe > Select dalvik-cache, cache, system, vendor and data> Swipe to wipe
From the TWRP menu, Install > Select full ROM zip (modified one with compatibility.zip removed, in case you're on Oreo or unmodified one, in case you're on Pie) > Swipe to flash
Flash the latest stable Magisk in case you want to root
From the TWRP menu, Wipe > Advanced wipe > Select dalvik-cache and cache > Swipe to wipe
Optional: If you wish to decrypt, format data via TWRP (please note that wiping the data partition, which we did in the 5th step above, is not the same as formatting it) and after that flash Disable DM-Verity and ForceEncrypt 2.0 (OP5-5T-Treble).zip from here
Reboot

Firmware issue. Your device is most likely on a firmware other then the one that twrp supports.
So what was the last oxygenOS firmware / rom you use and which twrp(file name) did you flash?
Within the flashing instructions it's written that you need to be on 5.1.7 before flashing 9.0.x

Custom ROM Installation (TWRP)

When I touch reboot>power off button, TWRP is asking me to install TWRP
Should I Swipe to instaal TWRP app?
Booting is still working with Stock ROM, transferred Gapps & Custom ROM
Lenovo Recovery System Installed
Lets organize everything to someone that will help me
1. Installing TWRP
- When I typed the command <fastboot reboot> TWRP boots successfully, but when turn off Lenovo Recovery System boots again
2. Wipe data
- Which option do I need to select? Wipe cache, dalvic cache, system, data
- Can I just go to Install option and choose Custom ROM from device storage, without Wiping data first?
- If I select wipe data first it won't be erase files <Custom ROM & Gapps> from the actual OS?
Thanks !
