Problem installing omnirom android 9 on oneplus 5 - OnePlus 5 Questions & Answers

i follow the instructions as per omnirom thread... flash the vendor/firmware, wipe data , reboot recovery, and flash the rom, but the omni rom does not boot at all and just shows the OMNI sign on/off. How should i proceed?

Which ROM were you on? What Firmware were you on? Were you Encrypted? Did you only Wipe /Data or did you wipe everything?

Lineageos 15.1 (android 8.1)
I first flashed OOS stock firmware, then OOS, then LOS.
I format data and then wipe dalvik cache, cache, data, system.

Is your Recovery up to date? I'd recommend the latest Codeworkx TWRP. Did you already have the Vendor partition on your device before attempting to flash Omnirom?
If in doubt flash full OOS 5.1.3 and OTA all the way up to and including 9.0.1. Then reinstall TWRP by fastboot, wipe and format everything and then flash Omni.

I still tried, it does not work. My phone got bricked, so I used MSM tool to unbrick and after that I got Nougat 7.1.1. I upgrade my Android to 8.0 (OOS 5.1.3) from system update, and after that update another one came, Android 8.1.1 ( OOS 5.1.7). I then unlock bootloader, flash twrp, flash vendor/firmware, wipe data, flash Omnirom but I get stuck into the omni loading screen. The phone does not load.

Okay, i'm not seeing anything about a Format operation there. Wipe does not equal Format. I've just finished setting up Omnirom 9 on my own OP5, so it does work. (Great ROM btw)
Backup everything from Internal Storage to your PC, including all the installation files. The following will wipe your storage!
1) Boot into TWRP
2) Wipe Menu, Advanced, Select all Partitions manually and Wipe
3) Wipe Menu, Format. (Type Yes when prompted)
4) Reboot Menu, Reboot Recovery
5) Copy Installation files from PC to Internal Storage
6) Install Menu, Queue up and install zips in the following order:
i) Vendor/Firmware
ii) ROM
iii) Gapps
7) Wipe Dalvik/Cache when prompted
8) Reboot
9) Set up and done.

I did it, but I get a bootloop. Omnirom does not boot, it just shows the OMNI logo lights.

The only difference between the two of us that i can see is that i flashed OOS 9.0.1 and booted into it once before doing the steps above.
Don't know if it's relevant but the Vendor/Firmware that i used was 9.0.1 also:
https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/11o0FxZ_rw5lhthGz8_iyYEXBt0dwiv3x
Make sure you nuke everything before starting. Wipe and Format everything. Move installation files across and follow steps.

I flashed OOS first and booted everything and I followed the steps and got everything right, but still I get stuck with a bootloop that does not load OmniROM.

Works fine for me;
Flashed the latest OxygenOS. Now you dont need to worry about flashing firmware later in the process.
Enabled unlocking the bootloader in developer menu.
Rebooted into bootloader and flashed the recovery image from clockworkx and booted into twrp recovery.
Wiped everything and formatted data as well.
Reboot recovery.
Flashed rom. I always use sideload but that should not matter. Dont flash anything else; first reboot into your working system.

How can I install Oxygen OS 5.0.1 with an unlocked bootloader?

Good day!
Our country just received the Oxygen OS 5.0.1 update.
How can I install it with an unlocked bootloader?
I was going to relock it but I found out that if I did, my data will be gone.
The only difference in the set-up of my phone from a stock OP5 is the unlocked bootloader.

I haven't done this kind of thing yet.
If I do this, will my data be wiped out or not?
What about using the OTA notification ?

What do you mean?
I tried to update my phone using the normal way but after downloading and tried to install it, it failed because my bootloader is unlocked.
I just made a backup of data using codeworkx recovery. Copied the backup (Along with the files on userdata I wanted to keep) to my PC.
Wiped all and formatted data. Then installed Oreo and copied back the files and data backup from the pc to the phone and restored data with codeworkx recovery again.
Then flashed magisk 15.2 and rebooted.
Everything working fine now.

I managed to flash Nougat without locking my bootloader. But I also had to Format the Data partition to make it work. I used Titanium Backup to backup the data of the Apps and Myapplist to make a list of the apps. After installing Oreo I only needed to spent 1 hour to restoring the app data.

Hello, I'm interested in the same thing.. I have oxygen osv4.5.x received notice for is 5.0.1 and want to install. I have an unlocked bootloader and am also rooted w/magisk. I want to keep my unlocked bootloader and root after upgrading. I also want to do a "clean" install.

This is what I did:
Downloaded OnePlus5Oxygen_23_OTA_028_all_1801031502_04d7cc5. zip, twrp-3.2.1-0-universal-codeworkx-cheeseburger.img and Magisk-v15.3.zip.
Rebooted to TWRP and installed the Codeworkx TWRP using the Install->Image option inside TWRP.
Rebooted to TWRP again to make sure that my TWRP was updated.
Entered WIPE from TWRP main menu and used the 'Format' option to Format the Data and typed 'Yes'
This deleted my Internal Storage so I had to backup everything beforehand.
Then used advanced wipe to wipe Cache and Dalvik.
Mounted the internal storage by using the Mount option from TWRP main menu.
I was having problem copying files to the internal storage so I rebooted TWRP and the problem was fixed.
Copied the OnePlus full update and Magisk zip file.
Installed the OnePlus full update and Wiped Cache and Dalvik and rebooted the device to make sure that the OS boots.
Then rebooted the device to fastboot to flash Codeworkx TWRP again because it was unavailable.
Booted into TWRP and flashed Magisk.
I am now on Oreo and I hate the way Ambient Display looks right now.

I honestly dont see a big difference yet, but only had it for two days. Feels a bit snappier, my signal a bit stronger, and probably an improvement with battery life. I had issues upgrading but then again I flashed the wrong version of magisk. I think the most important thing is the latest android security update.

Hey, thanks.. I will update later today. I see you provided which version of twrp (twrp-3.2.1-0-universal-codeworkx-cheeseburger.img). But what is the difference between the version you noted and the one I found (twrp-3.2.1-0-oreo-8.0-codeworkx-cheeseburger.img)
I want to make sure I have the correct version.
Thanks again

You can ask that question on the TWRP thread. May be they can answer it correctly. I guessed that twrp-3.2.1-0-universal-codeworkx-cheeseburger.img was for both Nougat and Oreo and that is why I used it. So, if you want to be sure you should ask that on a TWRP thread.

Hello, I was reviewing the process and just downloaded everything onto my computer and transferred onto my phone but have a few questions regarding some of the steps.
* Rebooted to TWRP and installed the Codeworkx TWRP using the Install->Image option inside TWRP
** Can I update TWRP via the official app and is that version of TWRP okay to use over the "twrp-3.2.1-0-universal-codeworkx-cheeseburger.img"
* Entered WIPE from TWRP main menu and used the 'Format' option to Format the Data and typed 'Yes' / This deleted my Internal Storage so I had to backup everything beforehand.
** How, what and where did you back up your data? Because later you mentioned "deleted my Internal Storage". I am guessing that because the OP5 does not have an external SD card everything is wiped and the new OS 5.0.1 needs to be saved onto a computer and then re-transferred back onto the phone. I am also guessing that the backup will need to be saved onto a computer as after wiping the phone it would also delete that file too, correct?
* Mounted the internal storage by using the Mount option from TWRP main menu.
** I am assuming that this option after the data wipe is self explanatory?
* I was having problem copying files to the internal storage so I rebooted TWRP and the problem was fixed.
** This is what makes be believe all the files should be on a computer. How did you reboot and when you did, does it go directly / back to TWRP?
* Installed the OnePlus full update and Wiped Cache and Dalvik and rebooted the device to make sure that the OS boots. / Then rebooted the device to fastboot to flash Codeworkx TWRP again because it was unavailable.
** I am guessing here that once OS v8 is installed the TWRP img is no longer on the phone. I would need to transfer the TWRP back onto the phone then re-flash? Could I just install the TWRP official app and flash that way?
Thanks

Yes I am currently rooted. Once I flash the new OS will I still have root access to use the TWRP official app? Is that why after flashing new OS you need to flash TWRP via fastboot?
What about the backing up? I also have full titanium, thanks.

I received the following tip
"Wipe data and then copy the rom full zip flash it boot it to the starting screen then boot to recovery and then flash magisk ,you will see no errors."
But this makes no sense to me.
I have formatted my phone / wiped data / have the full rom & magisk on my "/sdcard" / went to install zip via TWRP, selected the rom and received the error message.
I decided to just go and upgrade via OTA and that failed. My phone has rebooted back to stock
what am i doing wrong?

Encryption Password not working

Hey, so I can't decrypt my device anymore. Not in Android itself, and not in the recovery. I've tried sideloading no_verity.zip and formatting the system via fastboot, so far nothing helped. When I try to flash the stock rom via sideload, it says it's not readable. I don't know if thats because I didn't decrypt the device before flashing or because the zip is faulty, but I've tried 3 diffrent roms, including one that has worked before.
Is there anything I can do to get my phone working again?
Device: Onepluss 5 6GB
Rom: Omnirom

Hi. Have you used this instructions?

Im not sure what instructions are you talking about but this isnt the first time i root my device.
Im using TWRP 3.2.1 since the last version giving me a little problems when trying to root. Im using the last magisk version.
About dirty or clean.. I first tried just flashing nornal from the OTA and then after it worked (no wifi or LTE) i tried to do factory reset and root again

Try flashing this first https://sourceforge.net/projects/cheeseburgerdumplings/files/16.0/cheeseburger/recovery/
Download ota again and clean flash it from the recovery.
It might be because your TWRP isn't compatible to Pie. Most people here including me tried codework's TWRP and it solved any of our issues.
Edit: after flashing magisk reboot your phone once more. (i didn't knew it before. I booted into my os and checked magisk app to see if root was successfull but it didn't show me. I wiped everything down and flashed magisk again. Same thing happened. Rebooted my phone and saw root was on )

Wait the wifi and the LTE problem can be caused by the recovery?

I would suggest do a complete clean install (wiping everything but USB OTG) and making sure you got the latest TWRP from blu_spark or codeworkx. Also flash it following these instructions:
[Clean Flash] For Users with an Unlocked Bootloader and TWRP Recovery:
- Download the full ROM zip from the downloads section above
- Transfer the zip to the root of your device's internal storage
- Only needed if you are coming from Oreo or if you use an old TWRP recovery that's not the latest and Pie compatible: Remove the compatibility.zip from the downloaded full ROM zip with either MiXplorer or Total Commander (not with any other tool!) on your device itself
- Reboot to TWRP recovery (make sure you're using siankatabg's TWRP if you're on Oreo or codework's TWRP/blu_spark TWRP if you're on Pie) and take a nandroid backup of your existing ROM
- Flash Magisk Uninstaller (recommended)
- From the TWRP menu, Wipe > Advanced wipe > Select dalvik-cache, cache, system, vendor and data> Swipe to wipe
- From the TWRP menu, Install > Select full ROM zip (modified one with compatibility.zip removed, in case you're on Oreo or unmodified one, in case you're on Pie) > Swipe to flash
- Flash the latest stable Magisk in case you want to root
- From the TWRP menu, Wipe > Advanced wipe > Select dalvik-cache and cache > Swipe to wipe
- Optional: If you wish to decrypt, format data via TWRP (please note that wiping the data partition, which we did in the 5th step above, is not the same as formatting it) and after that flash Disable DM-Verity and ForceEncrypt 2.0 (OP5-5T-Treble).zip from here
- Reboot

i ended up giving up..
im trying to do a clean flash
but the moment i flash the recovery and trying to go into the recovery
boom

i tried it multiple times both with codework 3.2.3 and blu_spark
Edit: Flash universal codework 3.2.1 does get me into recovery
im gonna restore my backup...for now

- Optional: If you wish to decrypt, format data via TWRP (please note that wiping the data partition, which we did in the 5th step above, is not the same as formatting it) and after that flash Disable DM-Verity and ForceEncrypt 2.0 (OP5-5T-Treble).zip from here
- Reboot

For the "Clean" Install given that OnePlus5 doesn't have external microSD storage, will ALL data (photos, documents etc) on the phone be erased in Step 6 above?

No, it wont because all of that is stored in the Internal Storage. So as long as you don't check that, you will still have your data. However, I personally wipe everything including the internal storage when moving to a new rom. I prefer to start with a complete clean slate but it is optional.

How does one go about installing a GSI ROM on the Realme 2 Pro?

Hi!
Could someone please give a step-by-step guide as to how one would go about installing a GSI ROM on the Realme 2 Pro (4GM RAM version)?
And which ROM do I download, A only, or A/B? Is it ARM 64?
I had tried once before, and messed up.
Hoping someone is able to help me out here.
Thanks!

So I decided to try this out. And once I swiped to reboot, it showed "No OS installed. Do you want to continue?". When I restored from my backup, it would boot up, reach the homescreen, and the immediately restart. I have no idea what more I can do now.
Do you flow these script carefully?just extract havoc os zip,you will get havoc system img then just flash image file to system, then install nano gapps, then wipe cache & delvik cache with data just swipe for reboot, you can go perfect.
Get any ARM64 a only GSI rom. Our device only support ARM64 a format.
1 Put system image wherever sutable to you.
2. Take a full system backup.
3. Go to wipe and just swipe to factory reset.
4. Click on install and select system image and flash that image in system partition.
5. After flashing just reboot.
Process is simple.

So I tried this, and still did not manage to get it working. In fact I somehow managed to completely brick my phone, where I could neither access the OS, nor the bootloader. I had to take it to the service centre.
I even tried flashing the vendor zip file. But to no avail.
Is there perhaps a video which show the steps from top to bottom, starting at the bootloader unlock? (I want to make sure I'm not really messing that up either)

PLEASE HELP No os

So i flashed twrp on my phone than i flashed lineage os after that i wiped everyting in twrp (idk why)
no in slotb i get in lineage recovery
if i try flashing an os it works liek it should i wipe dalvik i reboot and it kicks me in bootloader everytime
what should i do now this is my only phone and dont know what to do
Use the msm tool and, you will at least bring your phone back to a operable device.
I have a Guide for Installing Lineage here.
I'll highlight the step right after format data:
Factory Reset. (This is the slider at the bottom, do not Wipe system, do NOT Wipe Dalvik / ART, do not add anything else)
In TWRP you can backup anything you need if you haven't already. Then I would recommend using the fastboot ROM.
