Hello, I plan to buy Ownice C500, but there is something that always bothered me about these Chinese head units - why they say they have RDS support, but they can't show radio band names on UI? All they can show is the radio frequency. This is not only Ownice. I had WinCE 6.0 Hooligan head unit in my previous car and there was the same case - no radio band names! These Chinese people don't know what is RDS, or there is some difference in the Chinese RDS and US/European RDS? I can't get it.
P.S. Any chance to swap radio app with something that shows band names?
Do you have factory settings and see if you have RDS enabled
Try this one find out were your radio app is and put .old at the end ie .apk.old and rename this app the same as your own radio app.

Yeah i have tried it and its shows the station names. i will take a short video for i have a klyde headunit had it for 2yrs and always showed the name.

This sounds very interesting ..... what is the name of the Package to the default installed radio app that comes with Ownice C500.
I can not find anything that could possibly be the default Radio App
If this works with the QR Code you entered, you have solved a huge problem with the original Radio app can not display RDS station name.
It's probably many of us would be happy if this proplem could be solved.

I don't own a ownice c500 you might find your radio app in system apps if so just rename this one to the same as yours. ALWAYS DO A BACKUP OF YOUR APP

Find the original radio app and just rename it to somthing like this
Radio.apk.old then just had new radio app and reboot radio

there is RDS on the chinese units, you have to either swap the APK or talk to your vendor to update the radio APP.

Hi,
Simply use " App Backup & Restore " from Google play.
I use it before updating any app, you can Always go back. It's easy.
RDS success
I have a Chinese head unit with Allwinner T3 / Android 6 / 1024x600 / 2GB RAM / 16GB Flash.
I managed to turn on RDS by switching the radio region from USA to Europe. But the radio app is still crap, I don't like it. I tried the app from the post above, plus one another from Play, but none of them were working with the tuner. (probably different tuner chip?)
Does anyone have a suggestion for some good radio app that would work on this unit?
Is there any solution for RDS?

The Joying Sofia 3GR units now finally have RDS-txt in the last 2 ROMs. As SYU is the SOM and software supplier, I assume it will come to A-sure, witson and some of the other Sofia 3GR SYU brands as well.
How can i find RDS supported Radio.apk?

It completely depends on your head unit. Which brand and which chipset (PX3/PX5/Alwinner or Sofia 3GR) and manufacturer (MTC or SYU).
There is no universal radio app as radio components are NOT an integral part of the android layer.
They are specially made to work with the Android layer, and that depends per chipset and unit manufacturer.
Note that resellers like Joying, Dasaita, Witson, whatever are NOT manufacturers. They assemble the MTC or SYU SOMs and components and sell them.

DRS3 is the Stationname and the other "JORDAN" is from a titel of a song or a artist name.
Hmm.. i also get the station name as always but no chance to get title informations or any other things! And i know for sure that the station i´m listening to sends those infos..
RDS has always worked on my device, since stock 1.43.
Very exciting! previously he has nothing appears. no sender and no other texts. now he shows that in a lot of stations.

Afaik, Malaysk did some custom roms for different Joying HU devices.
I bought the JY-UMS01N2D (With the Mainboard FYT6021), Running on an Itel Sofia with Android 6 and the so called "digital amp".
Does anybody knows, if one of the existing custom roms from Malaysk fits for this unit?
btw: That's what Joying wrote to this topic "3) Please don't upgrade ROM from Malaysk on forum xda-developers or upgrade with other firmware which is not provided by Joying."

All those nav apps use HD-Traffic or alikes via a WiFi/data connection. Not via TMC.

It's a pitty, that the unit does not brings an ootb functionallity with it. In my case, I use it offline only.

Then the Dasaita is obviously not compatible. I assume it is totally built for Joying.

How can I do to translate the texts of the messages and make it work correctly?
Is it possible to enter other messages for other canbus functions, for example if I press the parking sensor deactivation activation key, can I view it?
Also where can I find MCU and ROM updates?

That app is installed as system app...
If rooted you can replace the old apk by the new on the corresponding folder....or use the titanium.backup app to uninstall and install thr system.app
But you need tr be rooted first

No way to save stations by name
My stock radio app has same basic display. But I can live with that. My only problem s that I cannot apply names to the stations. It just shows the frequency in the select buttons.
But I see some images of the same radio app (I think) that shows a storage position (P1, P2, P3 etc) next to the frequency .
Unfortunately I cannot find a way to adjust or save the station buttons.
All suggestions would be welcome and highly appreciated!!
