Glove mode in Nougat - ZTE Axon 7 Questions & Answers

Hi, Just wanting to know does "Glove Mode" still exist after the Nougat update?
Thanks.

Hi,
Didn't find the option in my Axon 7 A2017U stock.

I have seen it in the Australian Marshmallow version, it was under "display settings".
Just want to confirm it's still there after the Nougat update please?
I have just ordered this phone and this is one of the main criteria that factored in the choice.
It's not too late to change to a different phone.

I have been informed by ZTE Aust, that it is still in Nougat.

A few questions before buying

Hello XDA,
I'll keep it short and to the point. Before buying the Axon 7 (from Amazon Italy, so probably A2017G), I have a couple of questions. I know they've been answered before, but the answers I found were old and things may have changed.
1. Can the EU model's BL be unlocked, and CM flashed?
2. Does flashing CM remove the EU model's audio limitation?
3. In your opinion - Moto Z Play or Axon 7?
Thanks for your input
Moto Z's battery is low. 2600mAh is not enough. I think you like custom roms. so don't buy Axon 7. I'm regret to buy because of there is no custom Rom. you can buy OnePlus 3 or 3T
1 - All models can be BL unlocked. If by CM you mean CyanogenMod, then I don't know about the EU (2017G) version, but you sure don't want to considering how incomplete it is right now.
2 - Last I checked all sound on CM was a mess, however you can flash mods to remove the audio output limitation the 2017G model has.
3 - Neither. If you're aiming for the price range of an A7 buy the OnePlus 3T instead.
It sounds like community development, and a stock-ish ROM matters to you, which is why I recommend the OnePlus 3T instead.
I bought an axon 7 since it seemed like zte would support indy developers. They didn't, I sold it to a friend, friend got pissed because of the lack of wifi calling and crap reception, zte doesn't honor the warranty for reception issues since they blame your carrier, had to take phone back or lose a friend. That said, watching the doublespeak from zte and their fans optimism has been hilarious
There are three models of the Axon 7.
1. A2017 - Chinese model - not bad. Haven't heard people complaining about it.
2. A2017U - North American model - I have this, I like it. CM13 still has a few bugs but once those get fixed the flood gates on custom roms will open up big time. It is a nice phone.
3. A2017G - European model - nothing but complaints. I have never heard one person on here say anything good about this model, and any possible complaint that can be made about a smartphone has been made with this smartphone by EVERYONE! AVOID THE A2017G MODEL AT ALL COSTS!
The A2017U is a good one, is 100u$s less than a Oneplus3T, Nougat is coming, battery and speed are just great.
You have the money? Go for the Oneplus3T, if not, think about the A2017U, not the European version

I was actually considering the Moto Z Play - that one has a 3500 mAh battery, and is considered to have among the best battery life. About ROMS - I'm not a flashaholic. I just need a stable, CM/AOSP based ROM (I don't use Google Services).
I can't/won't buy a Oneplus 3T. First of all, because it's insanely expensive on Amazon or locally; and also because, coming from a Oneplus X, I don't support Oneplus's practices (they abandoned the X after one update, which was a year late).

I definitely wanted the US model, but I can't buy it (U.S. Amazon doesn't ship to where I live). The 128GB/4GB Chinese model is available on AliExpress for cheaper than the normal EU model, so you're saying I should go for that?
I would say no. The Chinese model probably doesn't pick up your LTE bands in Italy. Just stay away from the A2017G model. There was a post here about getting the A2017U model shipped to Europe in the past. Don't know if it is still there though.

I actually live in Israel, and the Chinese model supports all the bands I need. That thread sounds interesting though, I'll look for it.
I have a A2017G and have nothing to complain about. You can install CM on this unit like all others U and chinese. I currently have the stock based rom from DrakenFX and the custom kernel BeastMode.
I am satisfied with that. Important for me will be the nougat update which will come to us this month.
I'm also using G model (Poland) and there's nothing wrong with it.

I must disagree, I have the A2017G and there is nothing to complain about.
I was also trying to decide between the Moto Z Play and the Axon 7. I chose the Axon 7 for the Quad HD screen (beautiful for reading or movies), the faster processor (see YouTube videos of the Antutu video tests on the Moto Z Play), and optical image stabilization. I didn't expect to care about the front-facing speakers, but they're a pleasure. Also the phone is smaller in the pocket, the Moto Z Play is huge with lots of space around the screen.
Pros for the Moto Z Play: front fingerprint sensor (the Axon 7's is very fast and saves space being on the back but I don't find it as convenient), up to 1.5x longer battery life (my "3250 mAh" battery is really 3050 mAh but I don't care because it still lasts me 24h under typical conditions), more stock-like OS, flat screen is easier to find a tempered glass screen protector.
Overall I'm very happy with the choice of the Axon 7 (rooted, lots of Xposed modules, no CM so far) coming from the OnePlus One.
As a moto x pure owner (xt1575, 2015 edition), this is my last motorola product. Since lenovo took over, the promise of steady updates is a lie. The device is all but abandoned. Supposedly android 7 will be released for it at some point but nothing definitive. As for MM updates, I believe the most current one includes the august 2016 security updates. Nothing more recent.
I think it's a crap shoot with either company. The A7 has it's 4 carrier support (albeit sprint hasn't certified it yet). Where as the moto z play is primarily a vzw phone with some lte bands of other carriers. Not sure if the Z play can be rooted/bootloader unlocked either as it's a vzw device.

I did go back from B08 to B03 and followed this thread instructions to root and unlock my bootloader: https://forum.xda-developers.com/axon-7/how-to/guide-install-twrp-unlock-bl-flash-t3517379
If you ask me how I did go back from B08(The same version as you) to B03, I just downloaded the B03 update.zip from an mirror and installed it trough the phone's recovery as a update. If you get an error when trying to update to B03, you have to enable OEM Unlock in developer settings.
Hope I helped you a little bit. If you need further information, just ask.

Did you go back to B03? What error did you got? Give some more details. And please press the thanks button instead of writing it.
But also pm me and let's stay back to topic. I will try to help you there.

New A2017G hardware?

My recently bought (Feb 2017) Axon 7 has a firmware that is unusual.
The phone name: ZTE A2017_7383
Model number: ZTE A2017G
Android Version: 6.01
Android Security patch level: December 1, 2016
Baseband version
M8996FAAAANAZM-1.68528.1.71127.1
Kernel version: 3.18.20
Build number: ZTE A2017GV2.0.0B08
Note that the build number is a V2.0.0B08
This phone is incompatible with the A2017GV1.0.0B05 and A2017GV1.0.0B10, so beware. I semi-bricked my phone (no network connectivity anymore) and I can't find a replacement A2017GV2.0 software.
I contacted ZTE, but no reply yet.
The reason I upgraded was due to inability to connect to 4G or LTE networks, even though my provider is on LTE band 3 and band 7.
Can anyone help me with this problem?
I looked at the back of the phone, where the original stickers still haven't been removed. It says ZTE A2017, without the "G". Could this be a Chinese set and the supplier reflashed it with a modified B08 firmware?
Anyone has a phone with the sticker not yet removed and has a different model number? I need proof that this is not the international version.
Would a Chinese version work on a "G" version software?

as far as I know A2017 variant doesn't have capacitive keys under the screen, so you would notice it right away. My sticker does spell "Model: A2017G" though. Have you made sure that the IMEI numbers written on the sticker match with your phone actual IMEI numbers too? (to be sure it's not a sticker issue)

USA (U) & International (G) = Hardware keys.
Chinese = No Hardware keys , and uses On-screen Navigation keys.
About the V2, that's something else.... Need further findings thought.

About the Chinese version, the 64GB model doesn't have hardware keys, that's right, but the 128GB version does. I have one.
Thanks everyone, just to close this issue, for the benefit of everyone, my discussions with the Ebay seller revealed that the handset is actually an A2017 Chinese set, and reflashed with their custom ROM to emulate an A2017G. Thats why it didn't work very well, and practically cannot be OTA'ed or updated.
This same message has been cross posted to [A2017G] B10 Update Released 1 2 3

So sorry if I repeat myself here, but I just wanted everyone to know that the issue is closed.
I have the same issue, So how did you manage to solve it? did you flash the Chinese version? (A2017) if so how?
or did you ask the seller for the custom ROM to flash it back to that?
thank you

I had looked at the various options available here on this XDA site, like flashing back to the stock Chinese A2017 rom, or converting it to an A2017U, but in the end, I didn't think it was worth the trouble, and could even make the problem worse.
They did mention that their supplier has the custom rom, and he could probably get it for me. But that means I will be stuck with that rom forever with no possibility of an OTA.
I eventually convinced the Ebay seller to accept the return for a full refund.
Hope this helps.

Hey, thank you for sharing,
I decided to do the opposite, and dived into getting my phone in working condition by flashing the chinese rom on it, although I never done anything like this before. I think I'll make a noob's guide to it, because while there are a lot of good tutorials out there, there are a lot of details kind of glossed over on how to do certain small steps, and you'll have to search for other guides on how that particular step is done.
For now let's just say that I'm happily running Nougat 7.1 with the Google Now launcher, and Google stock apps.

That's great. I would really like to know how you did it. Reading the forum, even with the fairly detailed instructions that have been posted, can be intimidating for noob's like us. Is your 4G working good now? Thanks in advance.

Has anyone got an update.zip or img's of any firmware above B09 for B2017G AXON Mini?

Does any one know where to get these updates for the AXON B2017G Mini? I had B02 installed in mine in the UK when i bought it sim free, but both sims wouldn't work at same time, in fact sim2 wouldn't work at all with sim1 or SD Card in tray. Eventually I found B09 somewhere and it has fixed that issue and a couple other fixes and goodies, but the fingerprint lock screen will unlock if you press power to switch OLED on then hit 3+ wrong finger prints, also sometimes just sliding across the screen works and i have Fingerprint, Voice, and Pin & Password backup so this is a BIG issue, So Again can any one dump there B21 update.zip somewhere for me or tell me where i can get it as i cant even get any better than B02 OTA in the UK on H3G three,co,uk or the B09 I've now already got.
thank in advance MHP

Yes. In the US version go to settings, Security, Smartlock and you will have to enter your pin code. After you enter PIN code it will take you to the next screen which explains Smartlock. Select "got it" and then the next screen gives all the options. I know that after i enabled smartlock, that i've had some of the issues you described. I enabled mine so my Mini wouldn't lock up all the time with my car bluetooth and my bluetooth earbuds......unfortunately it still locks sometimes and requires a pin after "too many attempts" to unlock with fingerprint. I believe it's another bug with crappy Mifavor.

Can someone please help?

Hi all I'm super new to this so I'm hoping someone can help me and I hope I'm doing this right. Thanks for your time ?
I live in Perth, Western Australia and recently bought an unlocked ZTE axon 7 mini (ex display) from a local retailer for a steal.
I can't seem to get it to update though through its native update program (just says network unavailable)
It's running Android 6 marshmallow and I know that it can run nougat (I'm hoping Oreo too maybe? Or soon?) in other countries and I'm hoping one of you brilliant tech wizards can help me as I feel the phone will benefit greatly especially with the battery life. Here's it's particulars
Model - ZTE B2017G
Android v - 6.0.1
Build - ZTE B2017G APV1.0.0B01
If you need any more info (like baseband or kernel, not sure if you need that?) please let me know I'll update this thread.
Thanks again!
Did you manage to update your phone firmware?

935A - upgrade to 8.1

Hi,
My main phone just bricked, and I have an S7 Edge from ATT (model 935A) on standby. However, my old phone was running 8.1 Oreo, so all my google backups require 8.1 or higher in order to restore. Alas, the highest the 935A upgrades go is 8.0, and from what I can tell they will not upgrade it to 8.1 or 9.0.
Thus, I started looking at rooting and installing 8.1 myself. Lineage or really anything that is stable and usefull. However, apparently using that 935A ATT model prevents a lot of my potential options.
Does anyone have an idea how I could do this? Seems like an option might be to flash a 935U firmware and try going from there? Or is there some different way to get my google info restored onto the 'new' phone?
Many thanks
Chris
