I'm on Nougat and after several hours, my keyboards will fail to activate. I click in the text box, and nothing. If I reboot, everything will be back to normal for a little while. I use SwiftKey, but that doesn't seem to be the problem. Thanks for any help you can send my way. Thanks.
Why don't you do a clean wipe? (obviously back up everything before)

I noticed this today (although it may have happened after installing some peice of software over the last couple of days. When I click on the keyboard it shows right away... but if I click on the arrow next to the keyboard to choose my input method it takes about 10 seconds before that little window pops up. I don't remember it being like this from a fresh OS with nothing installed.
I actually notice this after installing "nullkb.ARM4.CAB" which is a program that adds itself to that list of input methods. You can then choose it and the auto keyboard won't pop up all the time when you don't want to enter data. Works great.. but I'd sometimes like to be able to use that keyboard. I'd like to be able to open the options, change it from nullkb to keyboard, type, then reverse it back to nullkb.
Anyways, I uninstalled and soft reset the phone and the problem still persists. I reinstalled and it's still there as well. Any ideas? Anyone else have this problem?
Yep, it's a known (and common) problem. From what I can tell from reading around the 'net is that as soon as the SIP menu is modified in any sort of way, the menu becomes slow to display. Mine takes up to 17-20 secs to display. I did a hard reset last week and the menu became quick to respond. However, when I restored from my backup, the menu became slow again. I didn't want to re-configure and re-install again so I kept my restore.
Hi,
Ive searched but cant find an answer or that it even happens to anyone else.
Recently reformatted my phone, running out of RAM to clean it up.
It now runs great except now after about 5-10 sms's being received when i go to reply, no keyboard appears. The symbol is below but normally when you tap to type, nothing happens.
This is for Swype, Touchpal and even the standard keyboard. This applies for sms's or anything that requires to type.
Only resolution for me at the moment is having to soft reset all the time then its good for a few more sms's.
Only occured since i reloaded everything after a hard reset but the phone runs great, only installed what i had previously so no new software.
Any ideas?
Guess im alone on this one. Well if anyone else ever has the same prob, i discovered it was Swype v3.9. Never had problems before but now ive hard reset the phone to clean things up, fresh install things, it is causing problems.
According to other forums, v3.9 is very buggy so reverted back to v2.0 from the Omnia and its working great.
I have same problem.
I have installed: Resco Keyboard, Swype, and TouchPal. I usually use Resco; I can have sessions since a soft boot using ONLY Resco, then eventually the keyboard will refuse to appear after tapping the icon. Thus, the problem was not triggered by either of the other two keyboard apps.
Like you, my only remedy has been to soft boot. This is usually good for a few days before the keyboard is forever hidden.
(Still no permanent solution ...)
Hi
I updated swype yesterday, which went fine in itself. I restarted the phone couple hours later, and the phone got stuck on the Samsung logo. Tried restarting, pulling out the battery, nothing did the trick.
Clearing the cache's helped, but only to some extend. Immiedietly after going into homescreen, apps started to crash, starting from Nova Launcher.
Loading the nandroid backup that I did in june helped, so much so, that I pinpointed that swype was the one app that messes things up. I loaded the nandroid backup of broken OS that I did, and tried to uninstall swype from adb which went fine, but the problem did not go away, which makes me believe something is deeply broken over here.
Anybody had similar expieriences in the past, and could point me out to how to fix the problem? I really would hate to re-do all the things I did on the phone since june.

so, let me try and understand this, if you don't update swype, there is nothing wrong with your phone?
Correct. For now I'm on my june nandroid backup and everything works as expected.
Solved
It turned out this update made swype be disabled in the OS keyboard settings, and combined with the fact I froze native keyboard apk, it made unnexpected results after every boot.
Once I restored the native keyboard apk in my june image, swype update went fine, and everything is back to normal.

Alright, I don't think I'm the only one... 128GB black version, stock, no unlock.
Randomly restarts itself while sitting there, then sticks on the swirly image.
Have factory reset three times now. First reset, no longer tried to restore from backup (OnePlus). Second time, left it at default apps but with fingerprint enabled. Third time, default apps, no fingerprint/swipe. seemed to work ok. Installed my base apps (Whatsapp, etc), still okay. Enabled fingerprint and swipe... Boom...
Am I screwed and need to send this back?

You could try using one of the toolkits to wipe and install a factory image to see if that works. More of a last resort option but it seems your nearly at that point.
Hey guys,
HALP
Is there a good way to pinpoint exactly why my phone random reboots? So far I've already done a factory reset and it hasn't helped. Even with only installing basic apps (google apps, twitter/insta/snapchat/evernote)
Even with none of those apps installed, it would still reboot.
Tonight my phone was at 48%, I picked it up, sent a text message, put it down, picked it back up and it was on the Google splash screen rebooting.
I downloaded Catlog, will that help diagnose, and what should my settings be?
Thank you so much in advanced for any help yall can provide
PS, my phone has always been stock and never modded in any way.

Have you tried flashing the factory images, along with formatting the internal storage? Factory reset was a good idea, flashing the factory images is the next step. Do that and don't install any apps, if the problem remains then you're probably dealing with a hardware failure.

Is your case "accidentally" holding down the power button? This was my issue.
Boot the phone in safe mode and check if the phone still does a constant reboot... in case it does.. there might be some hW issue as you already got the factory reset part going...
SENT... isn't that enough
Thanks for all the responses. I ended up losing patience and sending it back to my phone insurance for testing/replacement. They were the last to take it apart for a screen repair so I'm hoping to pin any hardware issue on them and they'll replace it under the warranty of the insurance plan I purchased with them.
If they offer me a definitive diagnosis I'll update as well.
Cheers
