GSam not able to read CPU usage - ZTE Axon 7 Questions & Answers

I flashed RR 5.8.1 today, and set everything up, but GSam can't read CPU usage, even after granting it root. I have no idea why.

I get the same notification on Stock, rooted Nougat.
So, I switched to Better Battery Stats. I'll probably switch back to Gsam once it's fixed, since I'm used to it and it's UI better.

Funny. Worked on LOS, not now.

^^Is that a chow in your avatar?
I believe I had to enable selinux permissive to install betterybatterystats as a system app.

Get rid of DM-VERITY - For non root users

Rooted the phone on first day, then came across DNS66 app to block ads without root, based on what I was seeing, OOS is even providing agressive doze, so I was in a point to be able to use phone without greenify, so no root needed anymore. However when unrooted device, locked bootloader, the DM-VERITY error will not go away.
Tried a lot of methods available in XDA, nothing worked.
Here's what you do, flash the stock recovery from official downloads, the nougat version, then lock the bootloader, and sideload the entire ROM after wiping internal data from recovery. And it was gone.
I absolutely love OxygenOS. Since COS messed up, and I saw earlier releases of OOS for my OPO, I never thought they would come this far with great ROM development so fast. It's a great thing. This phone is unreal. There is no match for the value for money it is. Sure it would satisfy me more if it was a 2k display (spec wise), but this display is absolutely gorgeous. Perfect saturation level for my preference. It will be fun to see OOS get better. For the first time since I've become an advanced user, I'm using a phone without root permission, without sacrificing much for the stuff I need/use.

When I try sideload from official recovery "adb devices" either doesn't show my device at all or its says it's offline. Didn't you have this problem?

Just to correct you a bit it's not an error, but a warning. Phone operates normal
But thanks for the insight. Will look at DNS66

I just got my phone a couple days ago. Rooted and custom recovery and when I flashed 4.0.2, I had the dm-verity issue, but I just officially fixed it today by flashing this zip file.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=70393513&postcount=72
If your question is... I am on 4.0.1 or 4.0.2 and this bootloader is for 3.5.4, will this work for me??
Simple answer... yes.
Works perfectly for me on 4.0.2
Also I haven't heard of the app you mentioned, but I am using AdGuard Pro, and it works great for me so far.
Also using the following apps.
CCleaner - I Run this every so often to cleanup app cache
ForceDoze
Hibernation Manager (I've used Greenify and it works great, but it needs Xposed to work). SInce Xposed is not yet available for Nougat I found this app to be a good alternative to Greenify and doesn't require root either.

Yep, thanks for the correction, that's a warning, but it annoyed the sh** out of me.
DNS66 you can find in f-droid. It creates a VPN and blocks all requests to ad servers. Pretty straightforward but awesome. Since adaway hosts are also included, plus a lot more, it blocks a lot of ads unless it's being fed by main application server.

I'm running at almost 8.5 hours SOT based on average since I went total unrooted stock yesterday. That is abnormally good !!
That too, without anything from the list you mentioned. I "was" using Greenify pro version, but now I'm not, yes I clean up cache always, using All-In-One Toolbox Pro.
Which suggests, OOS 4.0.2 doesn't actually need anything from outside apart from the functionalities it's providing in-built.

Thinking it's time to upgrade to Nougat but...

So, with the realization that Xposed, etc. are likely dying a slow death I'm coming to the realization more and more that it's time to just get used to using a phone without that stuff and go ahead an upgrade to Nougat. I've been holding off because of the lack of xposed.
My question is...is there anything out there (on the Play Store or downloadable APKs) that will do the same things as these modules and is a legit app and not some junk?
1) Greenify (I know this will work without xposed but some features won't work - is there anything better?)
2) XInsta (download Instagram photos and videos)
3) SnapPrefs (I primarily only use this for typing more text in Snapchat and sharing 20 second videos which are longer than stock, I don't need the other features)
Anyone know of anything that I can download to replace those?
Also, as far as rooting 7.1.1 it's just a matter of applying the latest SuperSU I already am using (I updated my N6P regularly) after flashing the 7.1.1 stock images?
Any pointers will be appreciated.

Hi... I can't answer all your questions, only 2...
About greenify. I used to have it on my N6 running marshmallow. When I upgraded to the N6P, I thought I'd try without, just to see how battery performs. With stock 7.1.1 or PureNexus, the battery drain is negligible. Also, you can install a custom kernels and use custom profiles which tends to help with battery consumption (this is more for screen on usage though).
If you still want to save more juice... There's Franco's naptimes app that forces doze as soon as the screen goes off. I don't use it, so you may try to find more infos by yourself.
I don't use Xinsta, nor SnapPrefs, so i'll pass on this.
For root, flash your stock firmware, flash TWRP with fastboot, reboot to TWRP, then flash SU of your choice. Latest SuperSU is SuperSU 2.79 SR3. Don't reboot to system before the SU install or TWRP will be overwritten by stock recovery and you'll have to reflash it, etc... Starting with 7.x firmware it has to be done this way...
Good luck...

Thanks!
Yeah, I used Elemental right now on my N6P with 6.0.1. So I'm already tweaking that, and I did read about Naptimes just like 5 minutes ago as I was doing further research. Can also run Greenify in basic mode to get some of those benefits back as it doesn't require Xposed for all features.
Really curious about the other two, if anyone knows of any other apps.
Thanks again!

Hey... I don't see any issue as far as I remember that could prevent from using greenify. I don't know how much apps you have installed that could stay running in the background. Doze has been pretty well improved on 7.x compared to marshmallow. Give it a try, you can still install it afterward.
Good luck...
OGinstagram+ can download pictures and videos, it's here on XDA. It's not updated regularly (doesn't get bumped up for each little play store update to Instagram) but it works just fine. No idea about anything for Snapchat or greenify.
On newer versions of Snapchat you can type unlimited captions without Snapprefs. Videos are still stuck at 10 seconds, though.

Try clearing your Dalvik and cache (not data) in TWRP and reboot. How long have you been experiencing the battery drain? Might be that your device is still settling down after swapping kernels and applying root.
By the way, did magisk hide or using magisk hide with magisk core mode not work the 1st time round to let you into Snapchat?

Can you show us screenshots of your battery usage screen from Settings (including the list of apps), or perhaps download Better Battery Stats from the Play Store (or flash the apk from here https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1179809) and show us the data from the app after a couple of hours? It'd be useful in ascertaining what may be causing the drain. Also, what magisk mods have you got installed?

Slow performance

I have the Moto G4 Stock Android with ElementalX, Magisk and Xposed. The apps like gallery, YouTube, eBay, Firefox, Edge etc.... Were freezing up or taking a long time to load when pressing option within the app or browsing website.
I flashed back to stock, deleting, system, data, cache and Dalvik. Then installed ElementalX Magisk and Xposed. I restored my apps with titanium backup.
I thought that it would fix it, but I am still experiencing bad performance. I am not sure if it's xposed or the restore from titanium backup. The only thing I can think of doing is, going back to stock without ElementalX, root or any mods and test the performance.
Is anyone expiencing the same thing?

I would recommend to test without xposed and your mods at first(you already didn't mention what mods you're using).

I've had the same issue as well. Sometimes I wake in the morning, my phone has rebooted apparently, and all apps popup crashing. Once I restart the phone it is back to normal, at least until it happens again. I don't think it's Magisk, as I've had that installed since Day 1. My guess is that installing Xposed ~2 months ago is the culprit.
Sorry I don't have a solution, but similar experience.
You should try to test it without Xposed first. If that does not work try reconnecting your battery. It's probably because of the limited supply of power. Check with CPU-Z if all the cores are working properly. If not try reconnecting your battery. I have had lags and frequent shutting down on my G4 Plus. I tried reconnecting the battery and it's fixed now.
I'm experiencing it too. Not only the performance dropped, but also device is heating up like crazy. On stock not rooted

notifications not coming in from certain apps

So i dont know when it started, But i am no longer getting notifications from a handful of apps that i know of. Outlook and Instagram are the main one that I use all the time that I know for a fact i am not getting.
I have been through all the notification settings and deep sleep settings and nothing is out of the ordinary.
So i am wondering if it is time to do a reset/wipe and start fresh. Which leads me to what is the way of doing that? I am running unlocked boot loader, Magisk rooted. TWRP recovery.

Same happenes to me but with whatsapp, I get a notification sound but the notification disappears after a few seconds, I think it started ever since I've updated to oxygenos 10.3.1.
At least I have a mi band that shows the notification at real time.
I know this is an old post and I see no one has replied. But I am having the same issue. Unlocked, rooted, using magisk modules and only one app OfferUp is not getting notifications.
Did you ever find out what was causing this problem?

Yes I did the don't optimize. Not using greenify. I read on reddit and other places that this is an issue with OOS 10. I have read many have done everything from disabling deep idle sleep magisk module, turn off battery optimization, turn off adaptive battery and you name it..... Non resolve the problem.
Some say factory reset work and other not. What I have read it's a sure fix is going back to OOS 9.0.9 or installing a Custom ROM.

Currently installing PiXeN OS and will see if notification problem gets fixed.
Installed PiXeN OS and notifications are working fine without any mods or special settings. Was able to learn how to get the OP Launcher in PiXeN OS. The latest patchable version QuickSwitch is able to patch is version OnePlus Launcher 4.4.8. Its stable and it has Google Feeds automatically. So far its stable and everything is working as it should....... Cant ask for more, Stable custom rom with stock OP camera, gallery and now OP launcher.
Edit;:
Got the latest OP Launcher v4.5.9 working on PiXeN OS.
Just got OfferUp notifications working and it seems I am getting more notifications now. I did a couple of things, but I think the one that fixed this whole notification issues was installing a custom kernel.
I installed ElementalX Kernel and after that I got notifications from the apps that I was not receiving it. I also disabled RAM Boost from system settings. I did noticed better performance with RAM Boost disabled. I believe ElementalX Kernel improved my OnePlus 6T overall. I am in Stock OOS 10.3.5 rooted with Magisk and TWRP permanently flashed.
