Today I replaced my M8 Battery... When I opened the phone..... See it from your on eyes. In my case the replacement of the columns covers made a huge difference.

Is it pretty easy to pop those off and put them back on without damaging the phone?

Yes, it is simple. First of all you should warm the covers with a hair dryer or heat gun. Then using a spatula easily removes them. On youtube you will find several videos. Covers I bought on Ebay.

What did you use to glue the new covers back on? Any additional adhesive?

The same can be achieved by using a tooth brush and lightly brushing on the speaker grills...
Over time sweat and dust blocks the speaker grills... just use a fine brush.
My m8 speaker volume was so bad, before cleaning, that I couldn't receive calls Outdoors without headset...
No offense to OP...

They come off pretty easy with a heat source like what's been said, but I wanted to add the note that the grills are rather brittle, and flimsy. Don't do like I did and accidentally break it in half while cleaning it. I had mine held to a table, and was rubbing it with rubbing alcohol to remove the adhesive, and it caught on the cloth, and got pulled back toward my hand (that was holding it down) folding it in half causing it to immediately break. I got careless, so maybe someone can benefit from my screw-up.

Camera scratches easily? Fixable in any way?

I have a small mark on my Camera already, and I've been handling my camera with extreme care this whole week/weekend thus far. I already have a pretty small scratch (not across the lens thankfully?) and I have no idea how it happened! Been moving my phone around very gently.
Is there anything I can do about the tiny scratch, or do I just have to live with it? I get pretty OCD about small things like this, so I need to make sure there's nothing I can do to try and remedy the scratch before flipping out.
Thanks everyone.

Relax. You and everybody else's phone will become dinged up. You are carrying it around with you all day everyday.
You can use the kickstand to keep it off the table or desk and use a case or pouch for carrying.
Use a liquid lens fixer like for glasses.
I cut a little piece from some old cheap screen protectors to cover mine. I'm sure there is some effect on the picture quality, but no current phone is going to compare to a Cannon anyway.
Resisting Lens Scratch
You can always buy a thick rubber washer and glue it around the camera lens. If you do not want to glue it, you can place it in between the cover and the phone. The solution is not fool proof, but it will work nicely to provide extra cushion and space. This solution is easy and cheap. The washer should not be to tight or small in diameter, so it does not interfere with the camera.

Placing a rubber washer between the battery cover and the phone, would not do anything to keep the camera lens from resting on the surface that would scratch it.

I was thinking something along the lines of this. Basically you just need a ring that rests around the lens.
Something similar to this comes to mind. Of course, you wouldn't need to have a new lens on it. Just a piece of metal.
This could be magnetic, or glued. You could probably rip the phone apart and replace the piece with a more protruding piece to do the same, but that's far more intrusive.
I'm sure we'll see commercial magnet like solutions for this. I mean, come on. A small magnetic ring is all we need. Someone is going to bank on that.
Or how about using hoverboard technology so the phone never touches anything, and hovers in midair? Geez people, buy a case.

Why cover the entire phone with a case when you can just put something around the lens?
I don't like cases. I think these devices were made to look and function in a certain way. If they "needed" a case it should have been built more robust.
I've had an iPhone 3G with no case for 2 years. I've also had no regrets.

It was sarcasm. I too, like mine naked, the way it was born. I have a leather case on my hip to put it in when I'm not using it. Jabbing at the fact that people actually want an accessory to attach to the camera lens ring just to keep it from touching another surface and getting scratched, like there should obviously be a market for that. Anyone that anal about possibly scratching a cellphone camera lens... I'm surprised they EVER pull the phone out to do anything at all. (again, sarcasm)

Haha yea. It's a camera on a phone... My DSLR is in it's nice cushy case. My phone will reside, albeit tightly, in my pocket.
I put mine in my pocket up until today, when I got my HTC leather hip case. I got tired of the pocket lint getting in the earpiece grill.
Tip: use Scotch tape and a blunt tipped object to get the lint out of there.

It's nice and snug. There's a hole on the bottom for your fingers to push the phone up to take it out. Magnetic flap, no metal button or anything, so no worries about phantom scratches. Stays close to the hip as well, and doesn't feel oversized or anything. Tight enough on the belt that I don't worry about it falling off.
Cool. I'll definitely check that out then. Thanks.

The one I have is from Sprint online: Part Number CFH2258R
I got a case for mine simply because I've dropped my iPod touch a few times and I'm pretty sure it'd be damaged by now if it didn't have a silicon skin, the EVO's camera worried me as well... The silicon skin Sprint sells seems a lil' bulkier than it has to be tho, and the button bumps aren't as defined as they could be (my iPod touch's skin actually made the buttons easier to press, quite the opposite here). I'm waiting for a different more glossy/smooth skin from Amzer to ship before I decide if I'll just go naked or what...
i found cameraphone lens protector circles at a store called daiso near by me. works great

it seems the bezel has a poor paint layer

well that is what I was afraid of when I bought the note, the paint job of the bezel disappointed me, especially at the headphone plug, it seems that the paint job is really poor, i ended noticing that the paint started to flicker, what a disappointment i hope that it will not get bigger.
I almost knew from the start that it would flake easily especially at weak points like plug in areas, i wish to know how to fix it, but i saw some video and taking it appart is hell, maybe i should consider giving it a brushed look bezel

I've had my Note for around 3 months.
2 weeks back I was sick, having fever, throat & ear infection.
I took a visit to the hospital and unfortunately dropped the phone whilst sitting down.
I was so sick & weak the phone slipped whilst in my hand.
Thankfully the damage was minimal. The only minor mark was on the upper left hand corner of the bezel, a slight discolouration.
I too would like to change my bezel.
Would you be kind enough to post a link to a video which shows how to dismantle the bezel & then put back?
Thanks.

are you sure that its easy to replace the bezel, are there no wires or stuff to take apart when changing the bezel. So its only removing the 9 screws.

My first Note went for a swim with me in salt water so naturally I tried a few things to get it working again, including removing as many components as possible. The bezel is part of the back cover that the battery sits snug against on all edges, and if you use both thumbnails to separate the screen from this bezel/backplate then it should come off after a bit of manipulation.
IMO it's not worth replacing as one mistake will cause another mark and you'll never be satisfied with it unless it's as new. I've found that only after you get a few nicks and bumps that you actually use it like it's meant to be - used. It's not being careless but spending more time using it than being super cautious is where it's at.

[Q] Wet application screen protectors

I was thinking of getting a BSE or Xtreme Guard protection for this phone but I couldn't help but wonder how you keep the liquid from getting in the crevices (earpiece on the front, speaker on the back, etc.)

You just do your best to avoid pushing the water into those places when you scrape, but some water seems to be unavoidable. Thats why the instructions say to wait 24 hrs for all the liquid to dry. I've found its been fine just leaving it overnight, though ymmv.

You'll be fine. Put a blow dryer on it for a bit to help dry it too.

Keep your phone in a bag of rice for a few hours after applying it. Its the fastest and most effective way to remove any moisture in the device.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk 2
just bruch the squeegie away from the ports but remember that youre not going to be spraying that much on anyways!!
most important note: Spray the protector and NOT THE PHONE!! lol
I keep a rolled up paper towel near the edges (speaker, mic, headphone jack, microusb slot) and blot around the speaker holes and power button quickly once i have applied and squegeed. It actually does a great job of soaking up excess solution.
Make sure it's not too close to the device before you've applied to avoid napkin specks.
just use micro fiber towel to sit under phone and put on screen protector and use another micro fiber to dry the wetness as you apply...mine went on perfectly...im pretty good at it though I have put zagg on so many phones so it was effortless to me...but just try my technique if you want and I hope it goes well

Basically this. Keep some cloth around the edge to soak up the big stuff. Next as I use a credit card to push out the bubbles, I wrap a micro fiber cloth on the bottom edge of the card so as water comes out either the cloth I have by the edge if the device or the cloth under the card is there to absorb it.

I read a thread where OP's N4 was submerged in water for whole 5 seconds. Miraculously, he regained the whole functionality within 24 hours. He thought the speakers went dead.
Living in S. Florida, phones getting wet in a rainstorm is common. I'd be surprised if N4 can't take small moisture from applying wet screen protector.

HTC One Teardown (Really not that bad)

Hey Guys i recently dropped my device into some water, no biggie device still worked and everything, but it was an excuse to get a device with slightly better Bin, so i filed a insurance replacement. So i figured i had already screwed it up, why not take it apart before sending it back.....
As with probably everyone we have all seen the IFIXIT tear-down of our device and they had some issues taking it apart, and even damaging the plastic bezel on the housing. So i was intimidated, but i wanted to see if it really was that hard.....
Guys its NOT HARD AT ALL....The hardest part is the plastic on the sides is actually pretty soft, but the only damage i had was before i heated the device up i tried trying to pry the speaker cover off with just a screwdriver (bad idea). This gave me some very very slight damage where i was prying against the plastic. With the heat and then pry this wont happen. (the adhesive is ridiculous by the way, some very strong stuff (I blame 3M)
Step 1: Heat up device with a hairdryer at the bottom speaker cover, your going to need to get it pretty hot (be careful, your speaker is under that)
Step 2: With device still nice and toasty take a spreader ( i used a guitar pick, but i was thinking a hot razor blade slid under might be more effective)
Step 3: Gently work spreader under speaker cover and work from one end to the other, I used a razor blade to get a gab and then work it off, wasn't to hard since the adhesive is warm and easy to peel off the cover. (be careful, you still have to use that adhesive to put it back on, or use another adhesive)
Step 4: Once bottom speaker cover is off take your spreader and place it between the black part of the housing and the silver part (essentially the phone is placed in a aluminum shell, and you need to get it out).
Step 5: With Spreader placed between the chases gently slide from one end to the other, on the right side by the speaker cover is a white tab, slowly leverage this tab separating the black housing from the silver housing, then pry up from one side to the other tell you get a decent gap.
Step 6: Take your separator and go a side of your phone, doesn't matter which one is done first, just like the previous step, place your spreader between the black housing from the silver, and gently slide from the bottom up, if your doing it right you will hear 3 clicks and that side is separated.
Step 7: Take your spreader and repeat Step 6 on the other side until you hear three clicks.
Step 8: Take spreader back to the bottom and gently pry up pulling the black housing out of the silver Back housing, while doing this you may need another spreader to pry the bottom and then go around the sides to make sure it comes out freely.
Man, excellent photos showing us the goods. What i wanna know is that the heck causes the power button to sink in the way it does. Seems hit and miss with these. Some people get very responsive power buttons, others get mushy clicky feels. Weird.

If you have a gap, there is no need to take the phone apart.
Just get some super glue in there and clamp tight.
And here are the OEM replacement parts if you screw up
http://www.etradesupply.com/oem-htc-one-rear-housing.html
I was wondering. Is it possible to ONLY touch the body (ie the housing + speaker grills) and replace them? There are a lot of people who scratched their ones and may want to replace the outside.

In the picture, it seems you have thoroughly torn down the entire phone.
Some people may wish to simply change the speaker grills or the rear case (metal + plastic sides). On a scale of 1-10, how hard would that be?

Weird Suction Cup Cover

I've just been given a weird phone cover. It's some knock-off but I don't mind, the one quirk is that it suction-cups my screen to keep itself (flip cover) shut.
It leaves a weird mark each time, but will there be any long term effects of me using this cover? I know it's a weird cover, but I don't want to damage my phone in any way.

In my history anything can scratch with repeated use maybe put a tempered glass on top The gorilla glass 5 is "softer" than 4 it has a better impact resistance but not as good as before.... I saddens me to see my month old S8 loaded on back with scratches and a few on glass Despite my being in a otter box and extremly careful
