Hi guys,
Just got a brand spanking new Axon 7 from Amazon. All is well but the pre-installed screen protector is so horrible IMO. It feels so bad with touch. Is it recommended to remove it? Swap with something else instead? It also creates a kind of rainbow effect and I just hate it. I guess it wont matter if I removed it right? Thank you very much.
I got my Axon 7 with a screen protector on the phone. And another one in the box. As much as its not the best, i appreciate the consideration from ZTE

Yes without doubt, I appreciate that they provide this and the TPU as well. How does your touch feel? If you still have the screen protector on that came with it.

Well i've never felt my screen without it. Had my phone almost 2 months now, starting to get some air bubbles on the screen but other than that it feels smooth. I do get the rainbow effect from the screen protector, but only when the screen is off. Other than that, the screen looks gorgeous

Try tempered glass from third party makers
There is a thread on the ZTE Community site that states that the screen protector that comes on the Axon 7 is not an actual screen saver but one that is used during manufacturing to protect the screen. The one is the envelope is the actual screen protector.

That's true. I already removed the screen protection it came with and it feels so much better honestly. Will look for some good 3rd party screen protectors.

Hi all,
anyone not using a screen protector? how is the hardiness of the glass? is it scratch resistant?
thanks!
i got the phone the 1st day it came out at t mobile and haven't used a screen protector since and i think the screen is pretty good i've only put it in my pocket once though. the screen looks just like when i bought it.
I have went a week without using a screen protector and I am just fed up with the smudges on the screen and I am going to just buy the Invisible shield and hopefully have it by the weekend. They are amazing products.

how long has the phone been with you? so it has no scratches and you dont use a pouch? im using a screen protector but im quite getting fed up with these things.
check this out if you wanna see how durable the screen is ..... I am just getting fed up with the smudges and want something besides a silicone sleeve for grip.

the glass screen is durable enough. i don't think you need a screen protector. you will probably break it before you scratch it.
Had the HTC rep come in my store today. He saw i had a screen protector and laughed. He was like you should know better man you dont need a screen protector. He grabbed my store keys and began to grind them on his screen with a fair amount of pressure and not one scratch i was impressed.

seriously? yeah i also sent them an email regarding why it has no screen protector, this is my 4th htc and all of them came with a screen protector except this one being their flagship phone and huge screen. they did say it is scratch resistant and no screen protector is included and needed.
Today I put my nexus in my pocket with the car keys in a moment of stupidity and scratched the protector pretty good. I removed the protector and the screen was fine thank God. I immediately noticed how responsive the screen and hardkeys are. I used to have occasional touchscreen problems but since then everything is perfect, especially the hardkeys.
I wonder if anyone else has had this experience?

Skinomi TechSkin
My friend works at a place in the mall and I get them for free
Yup, I removed my clarivue a few days ago cause I got a scratch on it. I immediately noticed how much responsive the screen is sans a screen protector.

Were you using the Anti Glare or Ultra Clear?
I switched from the AG to the Ultra and I noticed much better responsiveness.

Yup,but I only got the protector for the anti glare, I probably won't be putting on any other screen protector, I've dropped my phone screen down on gravel without a screen protector and nothing happened to the screen, but the case did dent , so I'm not worried about it scratching
hows ScreenGuardz , ZAGG and lexerd ?
Don't think there is a need for a screen protector on newer capacitive touchscreens (like on the N1). Did you guys see the video of the guy who try to scratch his screen, but couldn't manage to do it? If I did it up, I'll post the link.

I have a protector on mine, not because I'm afraid of the screen getting scratched but because I can't stand the fingerprints and the mirror-like reflection on the bare screen. (I'm using an anti-glare protector, of course.)
Tryed a few but got rid of them. Don't need them for my N1, since the touch screen seems to work better without.
I'm in the same boat as some of you guys. I used screen protectors for a while, normal ones, anti-glare ones etc. I also used a case for a couple of months (2 different ones) and I just stopped using them as well.
Just no need for cases or screen protectors in day to day use. I have one small scratch on the screen and I got that in the first week I had the N1, nothing has happened since (and that's over a year now).
I do keep my Otterbox Defender around for hiking, going out in a boat and stuff like that, but for day to day use it's just not neccesary.
And yes, it's a lot more responsive without screen protectors, even though you do get used to the lower responsiveness pretty fast.
Like many have said, I don't use the screen protector for screen protection, I use it to get rid of the built-in mirror and fingerprint smudges.

Same here. The fingerprints kill me without it. Plus I feel safer giving the screen a good wipe with papertowel and water with the protector on.
Ok, we all have a few scratches on our phones display, some worse than others, but wouldn't it be nice to have a display totally resistant to them. A diamond coating or something.
I know there are screen protectors, but who uses them.

Motorola Aura has a display that don't scratch.
Really, wow... That would be nice.

They are luxury phones costing more than 1.5K USD... they make them in precious metals, and some models even come with diamonds. I rather buy new digitizers lol.
Synthetic sapphire would be the best choice, but it's not exactly cheap to manufacture. The iPhone 4 and Dell Streak are probably the closest we have right now to nearly scratch-proof screens.
What's wrong with screen protector?
I use one for my X10.
Cant speak about the iphones screen as I wouldnt touch an Apple product to save my life, but alot of newer phones have Corning's Gorilla Glass. That stuff is pretty bulletproof. Google it to find a list of devices that use it.
I've got two screen protectors on, the one that came with it and stuck on another not realising it already came with one.

I have two screen protectors on my X10 too. Can I remove the original one that came with my X10. A bit worry to remove it by my self if it isn't the removeable screen protector.

It can be removed yes, but I've left both on, and after my brothers GF opened his toolbox the other week and spilling a lid full of screws all over it, I'm glad I did.

Not to flame you or anything, but what is your point of the statement? are you trying to look for help on choosing a screen protector? cuz people do use them
I removed the screen protector that came with the phone and the screen looks freakin' gorgeous without it, but at the same time, very vulnerable. I've bought mirror screen protectors from ebay; they're supersexy but at the same time superglossy and does not help at all when i'm looking at my phone in broad daylight. I've heard about ZAGG's screen protectors and I might try them out once my mirror screen protector wears off but they're quite pricey though Check out endagdet's post on torturing Dell Streak's screen too...it was very painful to watch but the outcome was great: http://www.engadget.com/2010/05/29/dell-streaks-gorilla-glass-screen-torture-tested-for-your-amus/
@junkk29: do you know where I can find a screen protector that has a rough feel to it? Made ideal for swyping texts. I think they are called anti-glare but the ones I bought were not anti glare (off of ebay).

To be honest, I have no clue besides the one that came with the X10. I use Swype on my X10 as well and the screen mirror screen protector does not help at all. It's nice but if your finger is moist or wet it can be a little sticky Try searching on the X10 accessories forum, you might find something there. Good luck
i'm kinda regret to take off my original scrn protector, should have just put the second one on top of it!!!

Yes it does and I guarantee you a 100% cuz I pulled it out myself. It's hard to notice it but if you look close enough (maybe with a magnifying glass lol) you'll see it around the corner. I saw pictures of it in this forums but i'm too lazy to look it up again. It's not easy to remove it and literally took me half an hour to get the corners out. Once you get the corners out you can just peel it off, it's quite tough but it doesn't leave any residue. If you're gonna get a screen protector i suggest you remove it too cuz i've heard from the seller that it messes with the touch screen responsiveness.
Picked up some low glare screen protectors on eBay and it's been a month without a single scratch! They are pretty tough, plus they resist fingerprints as well I am not sure I need to buy the 3 pack now... LOL!
I wish I knew who actually made them Cuz they are brilliant!
BTW, the original one is also on. It does not make a difference in responsiveness, in fact due to the surface of these protectors, it's actually even smoother to scroll or swype across the screen.
One of the many things I like about this phone is I have no fingerprints on my screen. The phone I had before this one was terrible about fingerprints. I was always cleaning it. Thank you Nexus.
Yeah, they moved them to the backside

Which is why I love my clear case. No fingerprints on the front, none on the back. And I can still see my beautiful white Nexus.

Some of us didn't make the mistake but it was the only option as carriers only offered the phone in midnight blue. It was either that or wait longer [emoji14]
Buy a case or if you prefer to not use a case then get a dbrand and you won't have any finger prints in the back. Win win.
By the way, tip for those getting screen protectors. Get a tempered glass, plastic screen protectors love fingerprints and oil smudges.

Have you found one with a good fit? The bevelled edge of the screen is really nice, not sure how a glass SP will interact with that. Also, I would hope that the glass screen protector isnt fully cut out for the speakers, i.e the glass completely surrounds the speakers from all sides. Does such a protector exist?

Tempered glass ones are also more likely (though it's not a guarantee) to save your screen in event of a fall. Usually if I see a broken screen with a glass screen protector on it, when I pull that off, the screen itself is fine. The plastic ones however... I see them with broken screens all the time.
@rootSU: Haven't specifically looked for any myself yet, as I use a rugged case. However, I would imagine the Otterbox Alpha glass will probably get it right. If not them, then zNitro.
I actually love my blue Nexus . As for the finger prints scotch tape removes them quite nicely. But most of the time my device is in a clear case.
I chose the Midnight Blue since I had the White 2013 Moto X.
My White Moto X got perma stained in many places from skin, dirt, oil and more. I had it in a case 70% of the time, but didn't help.
I like the way the Cloud White looks. But I'm in the minority for liking the Blue. Not only will I not get a perma stained back on my new Nexus. I actually prefure the looks of MB on this phone.
I also have a Supcase Hybrrid coming in the mail so prints and smudges on the MB will be moot.
TL;DR:
Owning a White phone isn't as cool as you think and has cons in the long run.
Agree, love my midnight blue. Fingerprints aren't an issue if you just care for it and wipe it down once in a while. :good:

This phone is great! Can't believe it was only $200. I bought it for the girlfriend, put Google now launcher on it, and disabled some bloat. When I first got it though, I was concerned with the screen quality. It didn't look very good and had weird coloring to it. I discovered there was a screen protector already on it when I was cleaning the screen to put a tempered glass screen protector on it and removed it. Wow. The plastic protector that's on there does the device a huge disservice. I understand that some protection is better than none, but it hurts the first impression that people have of the device and feels terrible. After removing it the screen and feel improved a lot. Just thought I'd share in case anyone else doesn't know it's on there.
Hmmm, I did not notice if mine had one or not. I already put another screen protector on it too.
