Can anybody please port the Moto Display feature from moto e or any other device officially supporting it to our moto g
Its a really cool feature
Try AcDisplay
You can try this cool free application called acdisplay.

Already using it
It's not hardware supported. Porting it is virtually impossible

And you can't port just Moto Display, Moto Voice etc will also have to be ported as they're packaged together

Moto X has an AMOLED screen, which allows the displaying of notifications without turning on the entire screen; thereby reducing battery consumption. However, Moto E (2015) also has 'Moto Display' - without an AMOLED screen.

Yes that's what I am talking about
Because the third party app AcDisplay also works flawlessly without much battery consumption on moto g so moto display if ported could also work
And some people are saying it requires gyroscope but guess what moto e too doesn't have gyroscope sensor and still supports moto display
So a port could be possible
It's not hardware supported.

People not knowing anything to please shut up
longtime i follow this speech ..
About 9 month ago Motorola told that would ported this feauture in our moto g.. I spoke with punit soni in g+ regarding a suggest to port this feauture.. And he told me that they worked hard about it.. But without found a good compromise between battery and prestacion of the app..
Now i think that Motorola has left this project..
So i know about a few thread discuss to porting it but without success..
The last is that.. http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g/themes-apps/moto-display-app-moto-e-t3045339/page2
Really i don't have yet know if this is a software or hardware problem ..
For sure we can exclude from hardware problem the amoled display and the gyro sensor..-------> moto e 2015 . droid mini.
About the processor the doubt remain..
About software if we found the special libraries could be useful for a flash .
Could be a special framework?..
In conclusion impossible is nothing but it is really hard this project..
Good luck man.. And stay tuned
@ReOmbra thanks for the positive response
Here are two threads of interest from the Moto E (2015) forum:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-e-2015/help/moto-e-2015-compass-t3060131
http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-e-2015/help/moto-display-bug-t3063577
The first thread seems to confirm there is no Gyro sensor ('Panorama' in Google Camera does not work) and the second describes how Moto Display functions on this phone:
It doesn't work like the Moto X. You have to physically move the phone, and it will only work if the phone's sensor detected movement from a still position for about five seconds.

Means no gyroscope and still moto display works
Well can't we use accelerometer for that, it working quite normally for other orientation based things
Hey guys, I'm a Verizon customer and my 2 requirements in a phone are unlockable bootloader and sd card support. Since my options are scarce (CDMA compatibility) I've been using a 64GB Moto X Pure since they launched last year. I recently stumbled across the Moto G4 Plus and noticed that it fits my criteria for a smart phone.
Does anyone who owns a G4 Plus also own a MXP? They seem to be about the same size. The MXP has a better camera and screen resolution while the G4+ has a octa core processor. I'd much appreciate anyone's feedback who owns both phones. How do they compare in normal/heavy use, not just on paper?
Source - http://www.phonearena.com/phones/co...la-Moto-X-Pure-Edition-2015/phones/10053,9694
The Moto X Pure is much better in almost every way.
G4 Plus has a better camera, especially in low light situations. Fingerprint reader is super fast and I use it every day.
And the model with 64GB storage /4GB RAM is fast enough for every need. Who cares what a benchmark say? Nobody uses a benchmark daily...
Screen resolution? 520 ppi vs 401 ppi? Who cares, in order to see that you need to burry your face into the display or, if you are over 40yrs, you need two pairs of glasses to see that density!
PS: That comparison link is wrong, because that's not the US version of G4 Plus, it has the wrong LTE bands!
I ordered one off eBay that someone had lost the IMEI from flashing the wrong rom. Obviously I didn't pay full price. I'm hoping I can flash a stock rom and fix it.
If anyone has a link to the best restore file it would be appreciated. I tried to download from File Factory last night but after an hour or so the download failed. It's a US Moto G4 Plus 64GB.
Or if anyone else has tips about restoring the IMEI that would be great.

Look at the link below, it should be there. It's a link from Root Junky's site and should be good.

Def not a great camera. It is decent and great for the price but not great. It is mediocre at best. The videos are mediocre too.

Thanks I actually found that link last night and downloaded ATHENE_AMZ_MPJ24.139-64_65_cid50_amz.tgz. I have no idea what system version this phone will have installed when I receive it or what the current version is but this one had the newest upload date so I hope it's the newest one.

Try the one without amz, that is for the Amazon devices.

I also downloaded this one -

Hopefully one of these will work.

The last one is the one that it works right now in my XT1644.
Nevermind. The @$$hole had been on XDA every day since he sold me the phone and supposedly shipped it to me. I checked the tracking # yesterday and USPS had never received it. I sent him a message about it. He first replied that he was shipping it tomorrow (today), then immediately replied that his son dropped and busted.
Why sell something on eBay if you're not sure that you want to sell it yet?

Btw you should get better battery life on the g4 because of Smaller resolution and same battery. If I recall the mxp also has 3k mah. The CPU should also use less energy, not sure on that.
Overall, you're downgrading, especially camera. I like the g4 plus even on 2gb memory. It's smooth and decent battery life. Fingerprint is fast. You don't really have a choice imo. You may even opt for the regular g4 imo. Not much difference outside camera.

Good information. Thanks.
I currently have the moto g4 play (Verizon version)
and I'm thinking about getting the Moto X Pure or the Moto G4 for the bigger display and hd calling. I have read that both phones have a problem with overheating. (The Qualcomm snapdragon 808 and 617 processors are known for overheating issues). I would lean toward the Moto G4 but it seems the overheating issue is a bigger problem with the G4 than the Moto X pure.
What are your thoughts on the overheating issues?

I have a G4 Plus and it heats, but it doesnt overheat. I tested playing 3 games at the same time and plugged the TurboCharger for 30m and it got very hot like 47° but look what i was doing.
Heats yes, of course but it doesn't overheat. I have a friend who has a LG G3, that phone really overheats. Reachs 60° only playing a game, and 43° in stock. Insane.

Oh okay. Thanks.
I really like the moto g4 play and feel I would like the moto g4(don't want the plus 'cause I don't need or use a fingerprint sensor and there's not that many upgrades that
justify me getting the plus over the regular g4).
My concern is that I play a lot of music videos on my phone and when I tested a Moto X Pure in store,
the phone got hot after watching a music video on YouTube for only about two or three minutes, so I was like okay don't think I want to mess with that.
I'm thinking it might be the same or worse with the moto g4.
I don't want a fire trap for a phone.
May try the moto g4 and if I do experience constant overheating I'll simply return it.
I personally think it's a mix between:
Better camera, fingerprint sensor (and a good one), & battery life with the g4 plus
vs
Better performance (both cpu and gpu, especially gpu and overall performance) & maybe the fact there is more community support since it's been out for a while, for the x pure.
Can't be asked about the heat problems that some users are having with either, I ran antutu benchmark on both g4 plus and x pure and none got hot to the point where you couldn't hold it or have it feel like it was burning you. US variants of course.
Quick question. Is it worth getting a G4 Plus or G5 Plus and replacing a Galaxy S5? The S5 has had it's bootloader cracked and is now unlockable if you have the right version of it. The Specs on the S5 seem to be a bit better than the G4 or G5 plus, but I like the features of Moto's. This device would be for my sister, who is in no way a power user. I do all her technical stuff for her. One advantage of the Moto's is they will be updated to Nougat where as the S5 will be done at MM, I think. Secondly the unlocking of the Moto bootloader is crazy simple and the S5 is a bit more involved. Any opinions are appreciated. Thank you.
Go for a Nokia 6 or G5 plus.

Galaxy s5 is seriously an aged device with ****tiest UI on top and lags ****! Even moto E is better in ui performance than it! Better get the g5+ variant! Releasing on March 17th

I agree, but the Spec's on the older SG5 are not the bad compared to the G5 Plus. It's not like the G5 Plus totally destroys the SG5. I do like the clean Moto interface and the Moto actions. Biometric unlocking is cool too. I am leaning towards the G5 Plus but wanted to see what others thought as well.

I really wouldn't get an S5 unless new. The majority of S5s out there are refurbs or used, and even then they cost upwards of $200. IF you CAN get it new for under $200, pick one up. Custom ROMs are aplenty for it and it has better hardware than the G4/G5 (SD801, better camera, waterproofing, etc.).
The G5 should get Android O later this year, even given Lenovo's spotty track record on updates.
The G4 won't get O unless through custom ROMs.
Age also matters. I would say that the G5 would be a little better durability wise given its metal construction, but I also don't know how old your sister is.

My original post might have been confusing, she currently has the S5. We are considering getting her the G5 Plus. She is not techie and wouldn't benefit in any way from a custom ROM. She wouldn't know how to do anything with custom firmware.

Ah OK, makes sense. Yeah, then I would go with the G5 Plus.
Personally, I think Lenovo dropped the ball with the Plus as the standard G has a removable back and battery, while the Plus does not.
The G4 has a removable back, and while it technically does not have a removable battery it can be removed with a few screws, connectors, and battery adhesive. So, in the long run, I would definitely prefer the G4.

It is nice that the G4 has a removable battery, but I like the specs of the G5 Plus a bit more. She will upgrade her phone again in 2 years or so anyway. If the battery can't last that long then I'm done with Moto. We will keep the S5 as a backup and I plan on unlocking the boot loader if she has the version that is unlockable.

it looks like the galaxy S5 is still getting security patches from Samsung. I am not sure about the G5 plus. Does anyone know how much longer the Galaxy S5 will get security patches for? Thanks
I guess to follow some others posting about opinions on going from current phone to the G5+, would it be a good upgrade from Moto X Pure? Or would it be more of a sidegrade?
I'd go to the 3T if I wasent on Verizon....
As battery life goes the g5 kills the Moto x. Performance is about the same with the 4gb model of the g5. You do get NFC, more custom roms, and bigger quad hd screen with the Moto x. The battery life killed it for me on the Moto x
I'm loving my upgrade from the Moto x 2015. Not a single regret, since I simply use my gear S2 for nfc payments.
Battery life on this phone though. Wow. Best battery life I've had on a phone in awhile

I assume the development will start once more phones are out there for the additional ROMs. If anything, Im sure LineageOS will have something cooked up soon (If not already).
I just recently started using NFC on the Clark, because of Magisk with AICP. So the loss of NFC is not a deal killer because I only ever used it at a vending machine occasionally.

Real weird strategy of Lenovo tho. We here in India have NFC but not compass. And in some countries they have compass and NFC.lol
