Turn off update notifications?

So I have turned off automatic updates in developer options and I am still seeing am update notification. I would rather not suppress all notifications from Google Play Services. Is there any other way to deal with this?

Stock ROM? If yes, why would you not want to update? If you are stock, rooted and maybe a kernel, there are ways to update quickly and not lose those. If a custom ROM, you may also find help in the ROM specific sub-forum.

I no longer trust Google to do the right thing with these updates. The latest fiasco where they are trying to force the half baked Google assistant down my throat is an example.
I am stock rooted with Elementalx and do my updates once every couple of months manually through flashfire. I don't want the notifications hanging around my status bar for months at a time, and I don't want to completely silence all notifications from Google Play Services.
Finally, prior to the latest update that forced GA on me, thesr notifications were never present. I suspect that Google changed something with the February update. One more reason to wait a while before committing to an update.

I don't blame you on wanting to manually update on your own schedule vs. OTA. I've always updated using full images. At first manually with fastboot, then later with FF. Is your bootloader locked? Thing is I never get update notifications *ever*. I'm stock, rooted, EX Kernel and of course my bootloader will always be unlocked. Maybe that is the difference?
On the other subject, I'm pretty sure GA is here to stay. It's integrated into those two key Google components and get updated on the fly all the time, independent of security updates. Why not just turn off GA in settings and use GN with voice deactivated? It should never bother you there. I use Nova, so the only way I ever see GA it is if I intentionally launch it.

I thought I saw a bunch of old posts about deleting YadaYada.apk from /system/app or priv-app which will remove update notifications. Check to see if you have that apk.

Yeah, That is for the Beta Test nag screen which is annoying too but OP is looking to get rid of the OTA update notification.

Bootloader unloacked, rooted, ElementalX. I used to never get these notifications until I flashed N4F26O a few days ago. This is when it all started.

When you deactivate GA it does NOT relinquish the long press of the home button to its previous functionality. Instead it pops up an annoying message saying "GA is deactivated, do you want to reactivate". If you answer "Yes" GA comes back with a vengeance. If you say "no" then it simply does nothing, and next time you long press the home button the same stupid dialog is back.

Exactly. As stated above this all started after I flashed N4F26O. "Auto updates" are disabled in the developer menu.

Long press the actual notification and you should have the option to block it.

OTA: Since you have manually toggled the auto updates to "off" have you tried wiping cache/dalvik? In the meantime, why not flash N4F26T and give yourself a breather for a month. It's just a security update.
GA: You're just gonna have to let your OCD go and not long-press the home button, dude. Don't tell me you used GN On Tap several times a day and want it back? C'mon. How about re-assigning the long press button? A launcher like Nova may be a solution. Reassign home button long-press used to be in Labs but I don't see it now. You can do a million things with home button short-press. Nova really is the best launcher ever.

True, but he didn't want to block all Google Play Services notifications. I don't ever get OTA notifications so I may be wrong.

If the thing comes back in a month then this solves nothing. Will try wiping cache tonight.

Never used GN. I am old school, all I need is the original search app. It is very nice to launch it from anywhere, just by holding long press

I am running Nova, but the reassignment there only works when Nova is active. The home long press works from anywhere. I think there are other apps out there to allow this, GravityBox on Xposed worked well but Xposed seems to be dead.

This blocks ALL notifications from Google Play Services. Don't want that. On occasion GPS asks that I re-login or update, those notifications will be gone too if I block as you suggest. On my phone that only blocked the notification for OTA updates as far as I know. I still get notifications from Google Play.

Disable Navbar and Keep Active Edge [Root]

Now that we have root via Magisk on Pixel 2 XL, the Navbar can be removed while keeping Active Edge in tact.
1. Open a file manager (I use fx), and Grant root access
2. Mount system as rw
3. Edit build.prop
4. Add "qemu.hw.mainkeys=1" to the end of the build.prop file
5. Reboot and enjoy
This is confirmed working on 8.0 November update, but there's no reason why it wouldn't work on the old 8.0 or 8.1 DP1.
I use Unique Controls Pie to navigate.

I've had zero issues so far.
I was actually surprised that Active Edge still worked. Leads me to believe that disabling it in immersive mode was a conscious choice by Google. Not sure why they'd do that, but seems that the ability to activate it isn't tied solely to whether or not the Navbar is on screen.
Assistant, and everything else, is running just fine with Navbar hidden. No issues with Unique Gestures either across multiple reboots (I was installing some modules with Magisk so had to reboot a few times.)

Man I want to go back to using immersive mode but there are too many times when the phone takes to long to come out of sleep or the screen doesn't come back on unless I double tap power to turn on the camera. Anyone figure out the reason for that?

If you want your NavBar gone, I can do it for the old fashion way, by editing your framework-res.apk and SystemUIGoogle.apk if you will upload those for me. I already have it for September but not November update.

I use the advance command and it works good enough. Just the freeze ups are an annoyance. What is your method? Gone completely?

Yes, gone completely.

The method described in my post disables the Navbar completely and has not caused any of the slow wake up issues seen with using the adb command to enter immersive mode.

[HOW TO] Use old OnePlus Gestures on OnePlus 5T running OxygenOS 10

I found a pretty easy way to use old OnePlus Gestures on OnePlus 5T running OxygenOS 10
No root required
1. Download this Settings Editor app
2. Open it
3. Choose "System Table"
4. Search for "op_gesture_button_side_enabled"
5. Set its value to "0"
Done! I tested it on a OnePlus 5 and it worked fine. To revert you'll have to set "1" to that property

The fact that this can be changed so easily makes me wonder why OnePlus just didn't add a switch to make this an option.
Anyway, thank you very much for saving my Android experience. I loved the classic op gesture because it works perfect even with a bulky protective case while on the other hand the new Google gesture is impossible because I can't touch the screen at the required position with my thumb.

Wow, this is such bs.
Makes me stay on the new gestures. This was one of the things that really made me want oos 10. They could have added that icon in android pie, but they were lazy, samsung had their own gestures in android 9 and they added the rotation button to theirs.

You don't need to use this app if you use the stock gestures? I mean, with stock gestures and no additional tweaking the rotate icon shows up while using the regular gesture navigation right?

Sure, the problem begins when you try to hide navbar and pill. Otherwise it works.

This happen on AOSP rom too, when you try to hide the navigation bar indicator. Tested on crDroid latest version.
I guess this is an Android thing.

Delay during unlock on 11.0.3.3

Hi all,
Just wanted to see if it was just me who's experiencing a delay with the screen coming on when you press the power button to unlock your phone or double to to wake.
Symptom is persistent on stock kernel as well as Elemental X as well I'd imagine on all other kernel's, delays is around 2.2 seconds, what were OnePlus thinking.
Might be an idea to get a lot cat of the unlock sequence to see what's delaying it.
Battery life has been spot on as has functionality, just unlocking my phone is a constant "did I unlock it or not" query every bloody time.
If it's just me then I guess I'll need a wipe.
Update: issue is related to the center clock mod.
Will get the mod sorted.

Right I know what it is.
And it's sort of my fault.
The center clock mod I have a thread for. It's causing the delay.
Bugger.
Removing it fixes the issue.

Use Rice latest module for center clock..
You can find it on his telegram channel
Alot more goodies.. screen off animations , oreo style quick tiles, customize quick settings
panel, lockscreen...etc

Yea I don't use rice anymore..plus isn't the clock off center? Mine is smack in the middle.
I'm aware that they have some mods.

Well that's a new change, first two builds it was off center, of that I'm certain.
Yea I don't, asked for help because of a ridiculous decision on their part (removing the module doesn't revert changes, whereas other magisk ROMs do, I removed it whilst the cyberpunk theme was active, it removed the stock themes, ended up having to completely restore) I ended up giving them a piece of my mind for the crap situation I was in and the lack of any respect from anyone, absolutely should have been made clear that it does this
So yea I won't install it on principle.
Which is fine by me as there literally nothing they have that I would want or use.
If I wanted a ROM it'd be CRDroid or PE.

Recents button quit working after 11.0.4.4 update

I took the update last night and did not notice until today that the recents button no longer works. There is animation when I press the button and swapping the buttons doesn't help so I do not believe it is a hardward issue. I also tried using gestures instead of the buttons and still cannot see my recent apps. I'm wondering if anyone else has experienced this?

I'm on.4.4 and it works fine in gestures, do you have magisk and did you have any modules enabled?
Also try a different home app

I tried all of that and it still wouldn't work. I ended up going back to 11.0.2.2 and then upgrading again and the buttons work now.

How are you upgrading and downgrading? Twrp? Or wipe using full OTA? V strange behaviour that going back down and up solved it lol

Was going to suggest wiping system in recovery before going back a firmware, would have saved you losing storage..

I did not think about that but I'll give it a shot in the event I ever have another system related problem. I do miss having everything on a SD card.

Yep I've used system wipe before, keeps the storage intact which is nice..
If you have titanium or swift back ups then you can just restore.

Same problem. Do you disabled or uninstalled oneplus launcher? If yes, restore it, and it will fix.

Embarrassed to say that was it for me too. I froze the OnePlus launcher because I prefer Nova. I've never seen nav bar buttons tied to a launcher before but I wish I had figured it out before I wiped everything and started over.

I had some similar problems before, with different devices and aosp roms. It seems there's some link between launchers and recents apps.
