Strange Bluetooth connectivity issue - X Style (Pure) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Symptoms are independent of ROM or Bluetooth device. Forgetting and reconnecting doesn't work.
See two attached images.
1. Normal
2. Only 2 check boxes, one unchecked is phone audio and it will not allow me to check / enable it. When I do, you see a check that then goes away.
Bluetooth shows connected but can't get audio to play through any BT device.
Only solution is to reboot phone.
Any experience with this one?
EDIT: Solution found:

Same problem after Sept patch. A reboot only temporarily fixed it. I disabled both Bluetooth and WiFi scanning (WiFi probably not necessary) under location settings and it seems to have solved it for now, I can turn BT on/off, pair/unpair and it continues to function normally.
Edit: Turning airplane mode on and off would also fix it for me sometimes. But so far turning off location scanning is the only reliable solution I've found.

I have the same problem.....I noticed that when I connect from my Nexus tablet to the phone I can no longer use the headphones.. I have jaybird x2 ....I have to reboot phone. I tried Bluetooth auto connect and same thing.

Same problem, notice it after the september security update

try to install NON-HLOS.bin from latest release, this may resolve bt issues

You should reflash the Bluetooth firmware... find the correct factory firmware image (the one that exactly matches your ROM version) and flash the BTFM.bin image, in fact try flashing the entire radio firmware as shown below:
Code:
fastboot flash modem NON-HLOS.bin
fastboot erase modemst1
fastboot erase modemst2
fastboot flash fsg fsg.mbn
fastboot flash bluetooth BTFM.bin

I did flash the Bluetooth firmware but that didn't help. I did not flash the entire radio. I will try the wifi scanning option.

Good luck, it's been working fine for me ever since disabling BT/WiFi location scanning.

I'm glad I found this post. I've been working with Motorola/Lenovo support about this, with no solution.
Doing the Airplane mode on/off solve it, at least temporarily.
In my case, it started after the latest OTA (Sec patch Dec 2016) MPHS24.49.-18-16
I will feed this to Motorola (giving proper credit to XDA-Dev).
Thank you.

Thank you. :good:
This solved it for me.

BTW, I started having a issue with mine, and I haven't touched the ROM in months. Found an old thread, and did the following and it fixed mine:
Settings - Storage & USB - Internal Storage - then wait until it finishes calculating, then click Cached Data then clear cached data.
Give that a try and let others know if it fixes anything. Fixed my "May" rooted ROM.

Let me add to this bluetooth thing. I am experiencing the same as everyone else, but it also seems to be be deleting certain services for devices it connects to. For example, my phone is connect to my car's radio. When it was originally connected, I had four services available (media, phone, contact, and messages). With those services I was able to see email and text messages on the phone as well as the typical making phone calls and streaming music from my phone to the radio.
Now, when I pull up the bluetooth settings for the car, the media option is no longer available. It's not available to select at all and as a result I am unable to stream music from my phone to the car. I've turned off the scanning and have disconnected then reconnected the device with no luck. Any ideas?

Yep, which leads to another issue with permissions resetting. Cleared cache as well for good measure.

[Troubleshoot Discussion] all SGS WiFi problems here!

i dont think this is a SGS specific problem, possibly an app is doing this but cant figure out which one, during the day usually when i take out of sleep the wifi will come on for a moment then switch off, other times it stays on.
I have uninstalled Locale, and now use tasker but there are no settings I have entered for wifi, is there a way of figuring out which app could be doing this?
I have the some problem and don't know what it is
You can go to options and then go to wifi advanced options
(I have a Dutch phone so i don't know to correct name on English language on your phone)
you can select "never go to sleep" or somthing like that.
But is still have the problem
I'm also finding that I have to detach/reattached the wifi connection quite regularly. I'm using it on a 'n' network.

this is bug in the system.. it is the location doing.. it any app trying to get your location.. you are supposed to be able to turn it off by unchecking use wireless to determin location under wifi.. but it does not always seem to work.
I think the problem is with Google Maps (or Navigation, I don't remember). When I open it and starts to fix my location, the wifi will turn on althought I disabled in the settings the use of wifi networks to help the GPS. In theory, when you close GMaps/Navigation the wifi will turn off, but sometimes it will just leave it on.
It doesn't happen with other GPS apps like GPS Status, etc...
Will check what happens with Sygic later!
yes i have also tried unchecking check wireless networks for location, maybe switch off latitude?
its really bugging me as sometimes it gets stuck on switching off and you then cant do anything, and if you really do need wifi have to restart phone.
edit: switched off latitude, see if this is the culprit
I don't think Latitude has anything to do. I never used it and I have the same problem.
i have the same problem! its sooo annoying...
For the record, i'm using firmware XXJF3
If someone is using a newer firmware please check if the bug is already fixed.
not fixed in jf5 or jf7
just had to reboot stuck turning off. if anyone has a workaround or what service to kill to do so without rebooting please post.
I have all sorts of problems with wifi... keeps turning itself on when I disable it, keep losing connection, drains battery, locks the phone up (i think its wifi doing this) etc...
I tried wifi fixer app, and you can see how many times it disconnects/reconnects even after disabling sleep etc

i have location with wifi on. it disconnects automatically only when i'm not in the range of a saved network. Then it will connect to this network and stay connected
Any one else have any theories on how to fix this?
I think the problem is with the "Use wireless networks" setting not taking any effect on the phone (I have it disabled).
Having wifi turned off, if I open some GPS app wifi will turn itself on automatically. I think it is because it searches for nearby APs to fix the location more quickly. The problem is that the location is not as exact as with pure GPS. When I quit the app wifi will turn off automatically. This happens even if I have unchecked the above system setting.
A workaround that worked for me was to disable wifi AFTER opening the app that uses GPS, and the location was more precise.
Note that I tried this with Google Maps and Sygic Mobile Maps, so it seems like a system-level bug rather than app bug.
Anybody has noticed the same behavior?
My wifi is very annoying.
Every few minutes while I use e.g. the internet browser the connection just dies.
It often happens during loading of a web page or updating in the weather app.
My solution so far is to tun wifi off and on again, then it will work for another few minutes before it suddenly hangs again.

I have exactly the same issue. Which network system do you use? My router supprts "n" standard, maybe that cause the issue?
I think I might have fixed it by first turning it on and then turning it off(wireless location that is). Never managed to open up Google Maps before without the phone enabling wifi as well.
EDIT: Oh, and I'm running the custom ROM from Modaco.

Tried it on stock ROM version JF3 and still the same issue.
Regarding MCR, I didn't see in the info on modaco forum anything related to this GPS issue, maybe Paul fixed something without knowing?

Could be, but most importantly - Google Maps is finally usable again(for me at least)! Did you enable the "Use Wireless Networks" option and then open up google maps or did you just toggle it quickly?

Wifi Not Working Correctly?

I tried searching and I have not found a solution yet. I'm running SHOstock-I with ktoonz kernel on android 4.4.2.
For some reason, my Wifi randomly disconnects from any currently connected wifi network. The first thing I try to do is to connect back to the wifi network (any available network), but it simply tries and says "Connection Failed". Next, I try to disable the wifi connectivity alltogether, but after I tap the toggle button it becomes "greyed-out" and I can't toggle it.. it just hangs. If I go back a step and then select wifi again, then I can try to disable it but the same thing just happens again.
If I reboot, then wifi works again.
Oddly enough, if I enable/disable teathering, then wifi starts to work again.
It seems I can't run Wifi for more than an hour without this issue happening. It seems to have just started doing this out of the blue. I suspect a full wipe would solve the issue but I'd rather not do that unless I have to. It usually takes me a while to get things back to normal after a wipe.
Any ideas?
Some solved the problem by unInstalling the Smart Wifi utility (for ATT and maybe other carriers too).

Thanks, but I don't have that app installed. I am positive this is not a router issue as well.
Everytime I wipe cache/delvik then the issue doesn't occur for a few days, which I think is odd. I also tried different kernels and the problem persisted.
Does anyone know if it's possible to confirm if this is a hardware issue? I doubt it...

It is a good idea to turn off any 'connection optimizer' or 'wifi optimizer' application or setting, in short anything that decides what connection is selected based on available connections should be turned off. The most probable reason for the problem is badly programmed software.

Serious WiFI Issues

Hoping someone can help me
My S7 Edge WiFI connection is playing up. My phone is fine on data network but only when connected on WiFi (Have tried other networks too) it has some serious problems like,
- Whatsapp notifications not received unless I switch to data connection or open the app
- Trouble loading internet applications, they just hang randomly but if I switch to data then they load
I first noticed this when I switched over to SuperManROM, however I have since reflashed the previous ROM I was using and still have the same issues. I've tried custom kernels and stock kernels and no difference.
Is it simply a faulty WiFI chip in the S7 Edge or coudl it be something software related? An important point to mention is that for the SuperManROM I had to update the bootloader and Modem, but I did downgrade them again to see if there was any change
Please help
Having the same issues. Tried multiple Wifi networks, same issue. Shows I'm connected to it, but no throughput. Tested the same networks on my laptop with no issues.
I'm using SuperSU.
This happens to me too, but only when I enable power saving mode, could that be your issue?

Well I thought it fixed it, but it doesn't look like it did. Rebooting the phone to see if that helps
Update: even after a reboot no luck.
On cell data no issues. As soon as I connect to Wifi, I lose it.
Update 2: Had a system update available. Tried to install it, and after the phone rebooted it told me the update failed, but the Wifi works okay for the moment. Honestly no clue.
You guys got any VPN profiles installed or anything?

yah, no problem here either. I guess you already tried rebooting the device....
I have had issues like that with BT, reboot resolved the issue. Seems like the software on this phone is not good at handling sustained connections, WiFi or Bluetooth. I see wifi also being disconnected and re-connected quite often.

My X727 shipped with 18s and got the two OTAs to 20s recently. Never had any problems with Wifi or BT connections - music streaming in car and phone calls. Might depend on how your AP environment is set up since I've never noticed issues with sustained connections.
Sometimes I would notice the cellular data connection drop out and require restart, but nothing with Wifi or BT.

Thank you everyone for your input..
A reboot usually fixes this..
But really shouldn't have to resort to that every time
I've had issues with the BT when going from my car to BT headphones, where it will connect for phone audio but not media audio. Turning BT of then back on again "fixes" it, but it's a minor hassle. When I first updated to 20s, BT wouldn't turn on, but a reboot corrected that and I hadn't had any issues with toggling BT on and off since.
Sent from my LEX727 using Tapatalk
This happened once, reboot solved the issue. I used to use bluetooth a lot, but rarely now as my current car HU doesn't have BT. Didn't have any problems when I used it a lot.
I've had the same issue for the past couple weeks. It only seems to have this issue with the cars BT. It may be a minor annoyance, but it can cause some big issues seeing as how messing with your phone can get you pulled over now.
I have this issue. I use Bluetooth in my cars and Android wear. I never notice an issue in the car. But sometimes I'll notice on my android wear watch that's it's disconnected from the phone. I'll check the phone and Bluetooth is off and won't turn on. A reboot usually fixes it. Odd.

This seemed to go away for me when I turned off all of the aggressive memory management features.
The updates seem to have fixed this though..
I can't turn on Bluetooth from the quick access menu or even if its on.. its doesn't show on the quick access menu..
Anyone notice that lately?
Seems to be not working even if you turn off and try to turn on from the quick access menu. I am on 21s.

I think y'all should try disabling Bluetooth Scanning in Location Settings. It is a problem in the stock ROM as well as LineageOS ROM(which I am currently using).
Just try disabling Bluetooth Scanning in Location Settings (three dot menu)..... I'm sure it'll help.

Those posts were made over a year ago. They figured it out already.
It's 2018 and I have the same issue. What do I do?:crying:

[HELP] Weird Bluetooth problem.

Hello,
I am on Stock ROM ALE-L21C432B598. When I boot Bluetooth is off, as expected. If I turn it on, everything is normal. I can stream music, and also transfer Phone Calls via BT.
BUT, when I turn it off it doesn't "turn off completely" and when I turn it on again, I can stream music, but I am not able to transfer Phone Calls anymore.
If I put the phone in Airplane mode, then yes, the Bluetooth turns off and in the next turn on I can use the phonecalls over BT again.
I've tried lot´s of things, like flashing again the rom, flashing the B596 rom, looked into logcat for some information.
Can anyone help me on this one?
Thank you!
