A trick to a long battery life. - Xperia Z4/Z3+ General

We all know that the Z3+ battery is quite disappointing, it barely reaches 5:30 hours of SOT in best case scenario.
I've tried every little trick in the book, including modified kernels, different ROMs, underclocking CPU cores, and so on.
And all of these methods seemed to squeeze a max of 30 extra minutes of battery life, it isn't worth the trouble.
But finally, I managed to get 8 hours of SOT in my Xperia E6533, I'll share the method with you "Although it might seem a little basic, but this is the only method that actually made me get whole two extra hours of SOT".
----------------
What I did was:
- I started by doing a clean install of 32.2.A.5.11 ftf "By clean I mean I wiped everything, Userdata, Cache, everything"
- I flashed the stock kernel with TWRP included and DRM fixed "I'll include the kernel I modded using Serjar's rootkernel tool in another thread", I tried several other kernels, but for me, the stock one was most suitable.
- Installed Xposed and SuperSU from TWRP "Optional"
- Installed "Hide Stamina Mode Icon" Xposed module from Xposed Repository "Optional"
- I enabled Stamina Mode "Always"
- I went to Battery Optimization and ticked the apps that I want them to have internet access all the time "Even when the screen is off".
- Stamina Mode works like a charm in android M, Unlike android N, it doesn't seem to cause any lag, it only removed unnecessary animations.
- I went to about phone > Build number > 5 times > Developer mode.
- Removed any other animation from Developer mode like Transition, Window, and Animator duration.
- Went to Settings > More > Mobile Network.
- Changed preferred network type to WCDMA/GSM instead of LTE/WCDMA/GSM "Keep it on if you have an LTE connection"
- Went to my router settings > changed the channel bandwidth to 20MHZ instead of 20/40MHZ.
- Removed any third-party kill apps like greenify, etc, while I highly appreciate its effectiveness, Stamina mode seemed to work better on its own.
- Went to Settings > Display > Tap to wake up / Smart backlight control / Daydream / Image Enhancement > Disabled "Image enhancement really doesn't seem to make a noticeable difference".
- Removed weather widget.
- Disabled NFC "optional".
----------------
All of these basic and simple steps seemed to work better than the complicated ones, and thanks to them, I was able to get full 8 hours of normal SOT "Wifi, Facebook, Messenger, YouTube, Social Media, Movies" on my Xperia Z3+ "Screenshots in attachments"

Would this affect the camera quality since it uses Stamina?

I would like to charge the mobile twice rather to lose beauty of OS and carry a spare feature phone with loooooooong battery time for use in emergency.

Nokia 1208
Exactly. I too carry along a good old Nokia 1208 that I only use for GSM based services, and I only gotta charge it ONCE a week. Incredible! I use my Xperia Z3 heavily of course and that one is charged daily.

It's all about preferences, for me the beauty was never in these small animations, because I used to disable them from developer options anyway.

Not that I know of, I didn't spot any difference

ATTENTION! Xperia X10 battery problem SOLVED once and for all! Not kidding

Hi fellow Xperia X10 owners!
Ive got my device now for 4 weeks and in the beginning my battery only lasted for like ... 5-6 hours max ? I got so annoyed i did some research on how to solve it, and to be honest.. ive seen MANY post and MANY solutions but none of them really worked or they were not explained detailed enough to make any sense .. after many useless tweaks i got my battery to last like 12 hours, and that is by just making like 1-2 phone calls and some messages, nothing more, left aside when i made photo's or used the web... so my device was still useless.
Then i started using "advanced task killer" and the auto-kill feature, but that didnt realy solved much so i installed "task cleaner" but that didnt do much either.
Now after 3 days trying to find out what the problem is, i finally came to the solution !!!
Many post suggest using "advanced task killer" but none of them really gave the perfect settings for it, well i finally found them out myself
The settings i use : Auto Kill Level ==> Aggressive
Auto kill Frequency => When screen off
Security Level ==> Low
And now for the first time EVER! my phone can last like 3-5 days without recharging!
Additional tweaks are: 2G only
disabling WIFI and Bluethooth
disable GPS and positioning
Disabling these 3 doesnt realy make any problems since you can access them quickly by using the "networking widget" so i dont care
also put screen brightness to auto adjust and all these other minor things you hear in all the other posts, i am not going to list them once more.
Ive made some photo's for you to see for yourself
I'm a new user so i cant post links yet.. so you will have to copy it
w w w.photoshack. com /index.php?cat=26302 (kill the spaces)
I'm not trying to fool you or anything, i'm honest
(its in Dutch btw)
Time since last Charge says : 4Hr 14min 11sec
And my battery level indicates 100%
At this moment it says 5hr 9min 10 sec and i just entered the 99% zone
i didnt really made any calls or anything, i just checked once in a while how my battery was doing so it was basically running idle but i am still Very impressed!
I'il let you know how it turns out tomorrow etc, after ive made some calls and stuff
Good luck to all of you and i hope your search to happiness is finally complete!
And yes i'm dutch so dont blame my spelling ^^
Regards, clintax
thx for your info, i'll try your setting now
interesting idea, but I think we need to go through the list of what it is closing down in case you want to keep anything running. I Will test your settings and see how it does.
I was just using Kill level - aggressive with security level - medium and it was doing ok. Nothing spectacular but at least I could go all day without needing a charge or battery swap.
i was wondering. What exactly did you auto kill on advanced task manager?
I keep looking and looking there is nothing particular i want to kill.
I'll try this out and see how it goes by tomorrow. And by the way are you using helix launcher, gde or anything? Or is this the only thing you're doing?
I set the level to medium instead of low, we'll see how it goes.
I've followed all of your guidelines, but when I set ATK Auto Kill Frequency to "Screen Off", it immediately turns the screen back on after turning it off. After letting it sit and naturally time out screen off, it immediately turns the screen back on... Vicious power-draining cycle.
Is there some other tweak that I'm missing in your post?
@clintax, I'm pretty sure that the real reason that you see this improvement is because you have basically disabled all your networking facilities.
I have wifi turned on (never turn off when plugged in), GPS is turned on (which is the best because it doesnt consume any power unless some app uses it), bluetooth is off (but can turn on on request via settings widget).
My phone lasts me over 12 hours, which is sufficient to cover a normal work day, I use it in the metro to read books, I check news and feeds occasionally. I use push email so that I get instant notifications.
Personally, I dont think using task killer applications to kill apps is the only factor in the improvements you report. Usually, whenever I check my battery usage, applications+android system are usually under 5% in total.
I'm pretty sure my battery will last longer if I follow your example, but my phone wouldnt be half as useful as it is now. I really dont mind charging it overnight.
Cheers!
j4mm3r
followed your instructions but didnt get help. actually, my major battery drains on radio and standby. the 2 items always takes more than 50% of the total drainage.
look forward to the comments from all of you.
Didn't see any improvements either. I usually get 25h+ without running any task killers or start auditors, with 3g always on and medium to hard usage of the phone, which I'm pretty happy with. So I think its the settings of the data and radio that drain the battery, not the applications.
As a fellow Dutchman I'll share my part
Well I've tried most stuff already on my X10 and the only stuff I can really find that drains my battery are faulty apps (or at least in combination with the X10), GPS and searching for network when I'm out of reach (which is seldom).
I've currently disabled Beautiful Widget using the Startup Auditor, because at some point it starts killing my phone by running 100% and not letting my phone go to sleep. And this is what I meant by faulty apps (or in conjunction with the phone/OS).
3G is always enabled (what would be the use of this phone if you would disable all features which makes a smartphone useful).
Network based location enabled (now using it for the Weather & Toggle app).
No taskkillers running whatsoever.
Running Helix Launcher2 as home with seven screens.
Sending 20 to 30 textmessages, browsing the internet for 30 minutes (half with wifi/ half without), some calls about 30 minutes, toying a lot on the phone two hours plus, some Google Maps navigation 15 minutes with GPS enabled.
This will get me two days of usage easily.
Oh and running R1FB001 at the moment but had these results already with the R1EA016.
.
well yea, i installed helix launcher yesterday but i uninstalled it right away because i didnt like it so much.
Well to be honest, before i used the agressive settings etc on ATK, i used the same settings on the rest of my device
Wich are
-Only 2G
-No WIFI or bluethooth on
-Gps off
-autosync off
-dissabled auto-update, and put it on manual
-deleted the cash of moxier, timescape, mediascape in settings->my applications, and removed there icons from the homescreen
-screen brightness on auto
I suggest you take a look at this video from sony, wich explains it more detailed

and my battery still drained atleast 3-4% hr if not more, it is only from WHEN i started using these settings in ATK that my battery life improved like 500%!
BTW as for what features it kills by doing so i dont know yet, but at this moment everything still works perfectly
At this moment i have 14hr 23min 31 sec and 96% battery left, i'il post another pic for you guys.

Well the important part off all this was Security Level ==> Low
it shows you like 3x more things running on you phone then normal, and i just killed them all except: Ignore list= ATK, Xperia Flashlight, Alarm, VizBattery, Handcent Sms and taskpanel, but i dont realy use taskpanel anymore
I am still trying to find out what it actually kills in particular but i heavent found any problems yet

I had two "battery cycles" where the battery lasted 48 hours with my normal usage (Moxier+Gmail in push, 3G data, no WiFi, some Bluetooth while driving the car, no GPS). I noticed that because I usually have a 24 hour duration, and at the end of the day, when I put the phone charging while I sleep, I still had more that 60% of the battery instead of the usual 15%! So I decided to not recharge overnight and so I get about 48 hours both times.
The third cycle lasted even more, about 60 hours!!!
However, starting from the fourth cycle... back to 20 hours, or even less... I have not changed anything, I'm not even using task killers... I really don't know what is wrong with this phone (the problem is not the battery itself, I tried with 2 original SE battery + the mugen).

Which version of Advanced Task Killer are you using? as i have just checked mine and do not have the option to kill when screen is off
I have version 1.7.4 build46

Advanced task killer v1.7.9 build 57 (directly from market)
Ok, so with the settings I used over night, I had a 5% drop over a period of 7 hours sitting idle.
Auto Kill level - Safe
Kill Freq - When Screen Off
Security level - Medium
BT, WIFI and APN - disabled.
I had a 1% drop in like 6/7hrs.. fell asleep whilst using xda, 3g was still running an all..
I just use taskpanel
Wifi, gps, bluetooth & auto sync off
also Adw launcher
Edit.. Firmware 016 (only cause I can't remember the rest lolz)

Can people post what firmware they are using when they are posting their battery usage stats etc
Thanks

99% sure that this will increase your battery life

There are numerous threads about getting better battery life involving different settings, turning on and off stuff manually and battery calibration etc etc but noone that really helped as much as what ive discovered now.
Me and my spouse has the same phone but we dont have the same operator. I have Telia which has the best coverage in this area while she has Telenor which is worse in general coverage making the phone work harder in the net + really bad when it comes to 3G coverage and thus having slow data connection.
Therefore we have very different standby time on our phones and ive tried to tweak it with different kernels, modems and different flashes but nothing that really helped.
So I made a thread to gather some info from various people but it hasnt growed that much yet (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=989266). 2nd post from "theduckking" showed that he was using an app called "tasker" which cost ~4euro (well worth the money if you have low battery time)
Now ive just started using it but I already have 69hours of standby and 27% left of battery and ive never had that amount of battery standby for a really long time! This is getting close to an old fashioned Nokia 3310 standby
My spouse isnt getting as much obvisually as she has worse coverage which drains more battery but she has gone from barely a day to 2 days standby with 10% battery left ~30hours and this is with the following method.
Note. Both our phones have the same configuration, its only the operator which is the difference
Rom: Darky 9.3 Final
Modem: JPY (its the one coming from the darky 9.3 flash)
Kernel: DamianGTO 1.1 Gold

Now two things that have made the battery last longer is first underclocking it to 800MHz and undervolt -100mV in CWM (this will only make a minor difference albeit noticeble)
And the grand thing that will really up your battery is the app called "TASKER".
Ive only setup two rules and that is to turn off mobile data and wifi when screen is off and turn them back on when screen is on. You can customize it further if you like but im just gonna show how to setup the basics.
After you have downloaded it, fire it up and press "new" and then just press "ok" select "event" and "display off", press "done"
Now press the "+" and "net" then "mobile data", make sure "Off" is selected and then press "Done".
Press "+" again and "net", "Wifi Net" check that it is saying "Disconnect" and press "Done" and press "Done" again to get back to the main menu of "Tasker"
Next rule so press "New" and "ok" again, then "event" and "Display" and select "Display On". Press "Done" and then press the "+" followed by "Net" and "Mobile Data", make sure the checkbox says "On" and press "Done" and you are set. Press home button to apply the settings and you should now have "Tasker" in the top row.
Now this fix will maybe not suit everyone but if you value battery time more than anything then its absolutely for you.
What will happen is that all data traffic will be completely turned off when the phones screen is off and the impact of this is
You wont recieve instant (push) gmail until you unlock your screen
Google talk will not let others see you online/busy when screen is off
If you are making calendar updates from google calendar online, the calendar updates wont appear until you unlock your screen
Probably other stuff that havent crossed my mind

Sorry about the dark image, I raised the contrast and brightness manually afterwards to make it somewhat readable (I forgot to disable the "screen filter" which I enable at nights when reading )
pretty interesting.. will give it a try..
Hardcore made a thread on how to conserve battery life by disabling hsdpa. You can search for it. It has helped me a lot.
I'm using "superpower" from the market and I will install tasker to see if there is new options
If you use Tasker just for Wi-Fi and data turn - off when screen is off you better use (IMHO) SuperPower app. You also better untick auto retrieve option in MMS settings or you will not receive MMS anymore with this settings.
yay I'm famous... or at least useful
I have my connection Tasks attached to this post. you just have to import them and set up rules when to execute them. I have one that starts the OffOnScreenLock task when the screen is locked, one that calls the reconnect task when the screen is unlocked and one that does call reconnect every 45min
View attachment connectionTasks.zip
experiment with it^^
EDIT:
I also set tasker up to enable and disable GPS automatically (when maps or navigation start it enables GPS, on close it disables it again)
It's fun to play around^^

I using Super Power long time too (although i have 3000 mAh battery ), and i have battry life about 4-5 days on normal using, and 2-3 days by heavy using SGS.
I ask, after your testing, if you can make comparision battery life, using Super Power and Tasker, wich is better ?
Thank you in advance

Same here. Using Super Power some months ago, but now I'm curious about Tasker.
Wonder if it's better thar Super Power. Anyone can confirm that?

I just took a small look at super power. I found nothing you can't do with (except the 2g/3g toggling but I did not try that) tasker. The difference is, that you have to set up your own tasks and functions and rules. you can also create widgets and use variables to alter the way your own task works. If you have some programming skills you will probably love it, otherwise it's lots of potential left unused. (like loops, if/else statements)
You can read up on it over at lifehacker.com
I agree of course. Then again if you are a developer might as well completely roll your own
Tasker is nice if you know how to use it. Doesn't do all the things SuperPower can do, but can do a lot of thing (though less on 2.3, I think ? Not sure).
Gotta decide what's your own cup of tea. Apps like SuperPower (and Juice Defender, and a number of others ones) try to make your life easier, while with apps like Tasker (and the right plugins, of course) you can make your own rules. It's often more difficult than it sounds, though!

10 things that I hate about Gingerbread!

I really wonder why there is none of such thread here!
Gingerbread unfortunately brought only bad things to my Nexus. I already forgot why I was so crazy about installing it.
What feature did it introduce again?
Okay the response is much better and everything seems faster...but with lots of bugs?
That screen off animation? Seriously?
Things that I hate now:
- Battery Time: this is bad, can't even run half a day with lot of usage, b
efore I could listen to mp3's one day, ie. more than 4 hours without any problems...now
- Camera: either Cam or Video, the application crashes after I take a photo or video and then I can not connect to it anymore
- Gallery: often crashes, especially if you have an online photo account connected
- unlock screen: I use a pattern, often there is no overlay of what pattern I drag, still the screen can be unlocked
- Market: even if automatic updates activated, it only updates if you open the market and go to the "my apps" tab
- 3G and Wifi: if you are connected to wifi more than 15 minutes and then disconnect from it you do not get any 3G, you have to go to airplane mode and back, this bug appeared ages ago and was fixed, now back again...tells you a lot about their merging control, ie. sucks
- notification led: you know...
- apps: there are a lot of apps running even though I never used them since restart (see it in a task killer app)
- gps: on a random bases it tries to lock even though no app that uses gps is running
- phone reboot: it even rebooted without any notice two times since I installed it
(- Contacts: I still can't enter a simple thing like a birthday on an expensive phone like this)
MOD EDIT: Borderline trolling removed. If you switch OSes, that's your own choice. No one here is stopping you.
Got any troubles? Tell here.

4. Blank keyboard- fixed by switching to another keyboard and back again, or a reset
5. Blank Launcher- fixed with reset
6. In the stock SMS app a long press>delete conversation doesn't always delete the selected conversation; sometimes you have to do it twice.
As far as battery goes, my display is still the thing that takes up the most battery (which is normal) but I had been experiencing severe declines in battery life. Does the switch to 32-bit color require more processing power and therefore battery?
I *#*#4636#*#*>phone information and saw it was set to WCDMA preferred. I remember playing with the option when froyo came out but didn't remember what it was set to (Maybe Gingerbread reset the option...?). I changed it to GSM PRL (Auto), and have experienced increases in battery life, as my phone isn't hunting for 3G all the time- it uses a service provided list of tower locations.
The LED REALLY bugs me.
Hate about Gingerbread
No trackball wake
Juice Defender Doesn't work (but Green Power does - works well but with less flexibility than JD)
Short battery life
Useless keyboard selection gimmicks
- Market: even if automatic updates activated, it only updates if you open the market and go to the "my apps" tab

Well, glad to know mine isn't the only one that does this!!
On Froyo I would wake up in the morning to freshly updated apps that had updated automatically over night.
I have not had this happen a single time on Gingerbread, and nearly every time I go in to the market there are updates waiting.
What is the point of the automatic update feature when it doesn't work???

auto update never worked for me, even in froyo.
-Battery with CM7 roms
-Trackball wake blocked in non-CM7 roms
-More difficult to mod themes like statusbar (before we just had to change a png and now we have to edit a bunch of files)
So in summary GB roms are still not stable and complete, they have either TB wake missing or poor battery life too
My annoying issues?
- 2 second mic mute after I answer a call
- stock launcher choking after a while
Less annoying ones:
- Market does not automatically update apps
- gps activations without an apparent reason
My annoyances
In no particular order:
The cursor select triangle not lining up with the cursor
Launcher unresponsive/vanishing
Lockscreen pattern not showing (as in the OP)
Phone randomly stays awake at night
GPS turns itself off
Not able to view an apps wakelock any more
USB mount screen shows 'turn off' even when it isn't mounted (UK issue)
USB debugging icon doesn't appear, or doesn't turn off depending on how you enabled it
Exchange push is just crap now, I swear it's getting worse by the day

While I'm not a big Gingerbread lover at all, here are answers to some of the points:
Battery time is fine, at least in freshly installed ROMs it far exceeds what Froyo mastered.
Camera is your own problem - you didn't update radio, or your update went bad.
Gallery never crashed - again, your own problem (you get the feeling now, right?).
3G and WiFi - again, your own problem. No bug.
Apps - and why do you care? Isn't the "DO NOT USE TASK KILLER" thread clear enough? 150-200MB free RAM aren't self-explanatory?
Due to your comments, you might really consider switching to Apple. It would be beneficial both for you and for this forum.
Or you could back up user data, wipe, install new radio and bootloader, load fresh Gingerbread ROM (NOT CM7 or CM7-based), and have most of your points addressed.
Now, having said that, if you want a much better overall feel - install Froyo-based Desire port, or if you don't have any use for Hotspot - DesireHD port. I hate using barebone Android after some experience with it.
have you guys heard about Cyanogenmod ROM? I am using CM7 RC4 and I have no problems that anyone mentioned in this thread....
Maybe you haven't heard that your experience not necessarily represents anything.
For me (and another 2 guys that asked me to reinstall other ROM on their Nexus Ones), CM7 was a huge, awful pile of bugs. Starting with the ill-famous "wonk".
Plus, again, after having some SenseUI I don't really want to go back to plain Android, and wouldn't suggest it to anyone looking for a good overall experience.
I have an occasional problem with the application tray where it stutters, flashes and doesn't scroll properly. It seems to happen only after exiting certain apps, and needs the launcher to be force closed to fix.

I would suggest the OP decides what features he/she wants in a ROM and then try a few different ones out. There are plenty to cater to all tastes and i'm sure they'll be able to find one that works well for them.
1. exchange sync stops syncing without any reason. can't start a manual sync. only reboot of the phone helps for a short period of time. needs a fix very urgently.
2. TINY TINY notification icons...the worst idea google had for the GB update. i cannot see the difference between the gmail and exchange mail icon on normal usage in example.
There are some more points which i also mentioned in my blog about gingerbread for nexus one:

Thread Cleaned
Let's play nicely in here and keep this on-topic. This is not the place to discuss other operating systems. This is about issues pertaining to the OTA Gingerbread updates.
Thanks,
Your loving moderator.
One bug and one annoying change:
- The instability of the launchers. I hope they address this.
- The inaccessible GPS toggle. Tasker can't access it and neither can the toggle widgets. Why did they change this?
my mms sometimes does not send if i configure 2 APNs (one for mobile data and one for mms), while i disable the one for mobile data...
it's working fine on Froyo and CM6 before

QFT!!!!!!!!!!!!
Auto brightness adjustment no longer fades, now it just jump straight to the target brightness which is quite abrupt visually.
And of course... trackball wake is gone.
I concur with these points:
- Battery Time: this is bad, can't even run half a day
- Gallery: often crashes, especially if you have an online photo account connected
- Market: even if automatic updates activated, it only updates if you open the market and go to the "my apps" tab
- GPS: on a random bases it tries to lock even though no app that uses gps is running
- Creating shortcuts on desktop: sometimes you can't drag/drop icons to the desktop or to a different spot on the desktop.
- The cursor select triangle not lining up with the cursor
- Auto brightness adjustment no longer fades, now it just jump straight to full bright or full dim.
As for the people suggesting we update the radio and try different roms, while that is primarily what this board is about, it doesn't "solve" anything. This is a stock Nexus One with official everything. If it doesn't work then it doesn't work.

[HOW-TO][NEWBIE GUIDE] Optimize & proper set up your Galaxy S6 Edge (stock firmware)

[HOW-TO][NEWBIE GUIDE] Optimize & proper set up your Galaxy S6 Edge (stock firmware)
As I've read across this forum and on several specific threads related to usage, battery life and so on, as well as discussing with some of my friends having a S6 or S6 Edge, I realized that most of the people don't really know how to properly set up their phones or how to use them efficiently.
OK, I get it, this is a fancy phone, not every owner is a developer or tech guy so it might be that many choose it based on the looks and don't really know how to optimize it...then they start complaining about different things like lag or battery drain not knowing that most of the problems are caused by miss-usage or improper setup. Of course there are bugs too, nothing is perfect. Of course there are many firmwares available and some are market or carrier dependent so some features or settings might be missing from some of them or even work differently.
What I will try here is to provide some guidelines and tips for setting up various things on the phone in order to maximize it's battery life and for a better usage. I will also make some recommendations based on my experience, tests and usage that might not apply to everyone. Use common sense and logic to apply similar settings in your particular case. Don't come screaming that you made that or that and now something is not working.
And YES, I know there are similar guides like this posted over the Internet and I'll probably make similar recommendations here too but I couldn't find such a guide here on XDA that is particular to this phone (if there is a better one than you might as well ignore mine).
All these things I'll describe below are applicable to any STOCK, NON-ROOTED 5.1.1 firmware and won't break warranty or your phone.
Now that was a long (and maybe unneeded introduction) but I thought to write this for everyone...let's start.
Model No.: SM-G925F
Android: 5.1.1 r2 (LMY47X)
Baseband: G925FXXU2QOI7
Kernel: 3.10.61-5672012
Build date: Fri Sept 4 2015
Carrier: Orange RO
DISPLAY
First I would like to say some words about the display. We have a great display, high resolution and it is most likely the biggest battery drain factor. There are two major things about it that you should keep in mind and will help you to get a better battery:
1. It's AMOLED...that means that the black pixels on it will consume no power because are not lit. Studies showed that even if not completely black, AMOLED displays use less energy if the displayed picture is darker compared to a lighter one.
2. The brightness level. Most people use it on "auto" or high level settings and this will be a major drain factor.
You can drastically lower the battery drain caused by your screen by selecting as much as possible dark (black) backgrounds and/or themes. There are some nice ones available in the Theme Store (my favorite is the Dalkomm Coffee Theme), that make most screens and menus dark/black. Also choosing a dark wallpaper for lockscreen/homescreens will help.
Don't use screen brightness at maximum...never. You don't need that in 99% of the cases. Also you won't probably need the automatic setting either since most of the people are spending most of the time indoors (either at work or home). A low manual setting will be fine most of the time, I have it set up at about 20% and only need a brighter one when going out. At that time I just tap on "auto" and it'll increase based on ambient light level. So you don't even need to tweak it alot every time. Find a low manual setting that's fine for your eyes and just tap on "auto" when you go out in sunlight.
CONNECTIVITY
Another battery drain factor is your multiple connection/radios features. In most cases you use just several: Mobile Data, WiFi, GPS/location and BT (when applicable). That means you should turn off all the others you don't use...NFC or BT (when not connected to a headset or car-kit or not listening to music). I don't listen to music and don't have a BT headset so I mostly not using BT (just when I'm in my car) and almost never use NFC so I have both disabled and I enable them only when needed via the Quick Settings.
WiFi
WiFi should also be properly setup otherwise it'll have impact on battery. It was incorrectly assumed or considered that keeping WiFi on all the time will drain battery faster. That was proven in different tests that's not true and in fact keeping WiFi on all the time won't make a big difference and in some cases was even better than to turn it off/on. I think is something similar with the car engines that suck more fuel when started that when running at idle. The major power drain is not when WiFi is running while is not connected to any network, but when the WiFi radio is powered up. When is on and not connected, it's going into a lower power state so the battery consumption is negligible.
I had a case with one of my friends that had WiFi setup to turn off when display was off...wrong choice, he got about 30% battery drain overnight because instead of having it connected to his home WiFi, the phone was using his 4G/LTE connection to make all the background sync/updates. That was eating his battery and also his data plan. After setting WiFi to "always" his overnight drain lowered to as little as 2-3%.
In some regions/carriers there are 2 other settings that were proven to help battery life: WiFi calling and VoLTE. I don't have either of them but based on different articles and what people say, they surely help with that so don't forget to turn them off if you don't use these features.
You might also want to try turning off "Always allows scanning" and "Smart network switch". I have the second turned off but I keep on the first one. Basically the first option tell the Location service to use WiFi for locating the device even if WiFi is switched off (by the on/off switch) so that means the radio is active. Second option should make you switch faster from WiFi to mobile data in case the WiFi signal is not strong enough or fluctuating. In my country there are plenty of WiFi hot-spots and they have mostly good connections so I don't use this feature.
GPS
Well here the opinions are split but I am currently having it ON all the time and Location Service is set to "high accuracy". I personally haven't noticed such a major difference with or without it so I preferred to let it on as it is used by many apps or services. You can try to set Location to "wifi and cell only" but don't think that will bring you a major benefit.
RUNNING APPS/PROCESSES
Well this is an important one. I've initially started to turn off/disable/uninstall everything I don't need or use. This can be done mostly from the Settings - Applications - Application Manager or if you want to go further, you can install Package Disabler Pro from PlayStore, about which I'll detail later.
Now why we should do that? There are lots of apps, processes and background services running on our devices that take care about all the things we do on the device. The problem is that ALL are using resources: processor time, memory, space and so on. In the end these are translated for a user in LAG or battery drain. Of course we cannot kill everything and I learned long time ago that installing Task or memory managers on Android it's the worst thing you can do. Android it's smart enough to take care better about it's resources and processes (at least to a certain point) and keep killing a certain process won't give you more battery life but will eat more of it in the end,
What I wanted to say is you shouldn't start disabling, killing or blocking everything cause you might end up with an unstable or not properly working phone (case in which only a factory reset might help). First of all look at the ALL tab in Application Manager and try to identify what you don't need or use. For example I'm certainly not using some things like: music, books, news feeds, Samsung's keyboard (I use SwiftKey), the TouchWiz launcher (I use Nova), health services or whatever, S-Voice, S-Health, S-Finder, I don't have any smartwatches so I don't use any Gear processes, fancy device wake-up functions (like wave gestures) or animated wallpapers either.
So after all considerations above, you decided that you can safely disable some apps/processes. All good but you'll quickly learn that some of them cannot be disabled via Application Manager (the "disable" button is grayed out). Now what? Well here comes handy that Package Disabler Pro that I've told you about in the beginning. That app is able to disable ANY apps/processes on your phone, including those that are protected and cannot be disabled via the normal way (and yes it can do that without being rooted). The downside of it is that you must be careful what you choose to disable not to have something that is needed for the normal functionality or the apps you're currently using. The app has also a backup/restore function (via an xml file) for saving the list with apps you have disabled and easily import them back after a factory reset for ex. I've added to this thread my list of disabled apps as it is exported by the application (just unzip and copy the file on the root of your internal memory and it can then be imported in the Package Disabler app)
Another important thing is WHAT apps you're using. I know that socializing and social networking are some of today's most trendy things but keep in mind that some of the apps used for that are not so well made. An example could be the Facebook app/messenger which are reported to drain alot of battery. RSS feeds, news feeds, multiple weather apps or widgets, all contribute to battery drain and lag. Don't install several apps/widgets for the same purpose (like several calendar apps or weather apps). Each will take resources and won't have an added value. Want to use another weather app/widget than the one coming with the phone? Fine, install it...but don't forget to uninstall/disable the built in one or others that do the same thing. Same goes for keyboard for ex; I use SwiftKey for years and got used with it. For me it's better than any keyboard that Samsung might put on the device, therefore I've disabled the standard Samsung keyboard. I also don't like TouchWiz launcher and use Nova that offers me much more flexibility so...I've disabled both the "easy" and "regular" TouchWiz launchers. I went to the point that I've even disabled the different embedded font types, you have 5 of them and I doubt someone uses more than one at a time.
So as you all can see it's not only a matter of setup but also a matter of usage. When you have a device you have to use it properly otherwise it'll not perform as you expect. Imagine a car that has a manufacturer fuel consumption value of 5.5 liters/100 Km....that's under certain conditions not on ANY type of driving. Fly with 200+ km/hr on a highway and I'll guarantee you won't have 5.5 liters/100 km consumption. That doesn't mean the manufacturer has lied or mislead you. Same goes with a phone, if you don't know how to use it and optimize it, you'll have a bad experience.
I work in the IT industry for years and I mostly laugh when I hear someone advising somebody to reinstall the operating system to solve a problem. Same goes for "factory reset" for a phone. Yes, this method works some times but that won't solve the root cause of an issues if you're using it the same way. After several days it'll perform as bad as before and you'll just say that "factory reset" did nothing. Of course it didn't...YOU have to do something different, not the phone.
Now I apologize for the long post and I do hope that at least some will learn to better manage their devices and to understand what they're doing not just running certain commands or procedures blind. Both S6 and S6e are great devices but we should learn how to properly use them in order to benefit the most from them...otherwise we just come here asking for help or mumbling about what crap devices they are.
Thank you, I will check to see if I get an improvement on the standby battery drain.
Your part about not setting the screen to Auto is flawed. You mention that we are mostly indoors, and you don't need a brighter screen for that. Auto mode also knows that and sets the brightness lower. It already does automatically what you do manually.
Tnx. And yes....keeping screen at 20% brightness and just switching to auto when in outdoors works great for the battery life.

Not quite, I've tested it. If you're on "auto" and use a lower setting on the slidebar, in a dark room the screen is too dark, you'll have to turn off "auto" and the manual brighteness set on the same level will be much higher than on auto.
Now if you have such good eyes and you're able to use "auto" in all cases with the slider at 20% that's good for you...unfortunately I am not so that's why I use it as I've described. The point is that "auto" mode consumes MORE battery regardless of how it's set, than a lower 'manual' mode. So I preffer to have it like this than to use auto all the time.
Thanks for the awesome guide. I'll start disabling some useless processes and see how my battery life is working. Anyway without much editing the battery of S6Edge is pretty good. I can use it a whole day and still 19% remaining. As a comparison I wasn't able to do it with my S3 having to recharge it 2 or even 3 times at day.
Again, thanks for the guide!

My Yotaphone 2 Doesn't Sleep Well

Hi guys,
My phone is having sleeping problems. He's just not relaxed and is constantly bothered by something and this tension keeps waking him up many times, even though he is supposed to rest! I've tried my best to give him the right conditions - no Wi-Fi, no BT, full Airplain Mode, yet it is simply not enough.
I attach some images to make it clear.
[edit: why is Google Play Services doing all that? Could they just stop messing up with my hardware - GPS, CPU and so on?]
YD-206 with software for 201
root
TWRP
Xposed - Greenify
NovaLauncher
Nothing special
Is there any hope?
Thanks
Absolutely the same problems on my YD-201 6.0.1 with the same configurations (TWRP, Xposed, Greenify, NovaLauncher + Stock Battery Optimization). Besides, my wifi cannot be disabled, it is always active whatever i try. It is always on search mode even it is disabled. Hey, how do you get the dark theme for stock settings menu? And is your Battery Optimization Settings active?
Android Version?
What's the android version do you have? Lollipop or Marahmallow, i have YD206 with YD201 software, it has some issues with lolli and others with Marsh.
Do you have the hybrid Radio? The european or the chinese? If you dont even know then i suggest you to install the hybrid radio, it solves problems with the battery drain and the warm issues (yota hell xD).
I dont use greenify, i just use the freezing mode from titanium backup.

An update: THINGS ARE GETTING BETTER [after installing Better Wifi on/off (read below)]
1. I'm using Greenify and have hibernated many applications - this might be one of the solutions to the Wi-Fi usage. (See attached zip file for which apps are hibernated)
2. I installed an app called Better Wifi on/off version 2.1.0.0 from Google Play Store and have set the rules how to turn on/off (See also attached zip file for the exact set-up).
3. The Wifi sometimes appear to be ON on Battery Usage Graphic, but actual battery consumption is not noticed. The the normal consumption for 'Phone idle' is about 3-4% per day (around 120 mA). This would suggest that the phone will be able to last around 20 days if totally idle.
4. BLUETOOTH BUG - somewhere in this forum I read that after connecting the phone via Bluetooth to some external gadget (in my case UE Roll 2 music box), even after disconnecting, the Bluetooth causes Wakelock and this dramatically drains the battery!!! (See screenshot) The solution is Restart of the phone. On the Battery graphic you can clearly see the drain from Awake and after that I did a Restart and let the phone stay idle - the usage dropped immediately!
5. I'm using stock Battery Optimization
6. [OFF-TOPIC] To make background color for menus dark I use projekt.substratum_490_minAPI23.com.apk (attached to the post) and after installing it, I downloaded the theme InversionUI from Google Play Store. (I can't stand white/bright colors on my screen, especially at night, and knowing what it does to my battery since I'm on AMOLED display).
