No, you haven't got me..... i said...the setting.apk is completed now....
So make a flashable zip, put the setting.apk inside the zip, goto recovery, & flash it,...thats all....
& if you dont know how to make a flashable zip...then just skip the process of making flashable zip...take the
completed setting.apk goto system/app remove the previous setting.apk from there put the new one ,change permission.reboot.

You're gonna need to give more info than that. What file is this (I've personally never heard of the ext4.win extension before; are you asking about an ext4 partition?) and why do you need it for your nexus 4?

Ext4.win is the backup file made by TWRP. Ext4 is the filesystem of the file (I assume) and .win is their extension. It may just be as easy as renaming it to .zip and opening it, kind of like a .apk
He probably wants to extract his apps

THX a lot
Re: [Q] Extract *ext4.win files ([A] They are '.tar' archives)
I arrived here from a google search for the same problem so I thought others might, too. Here is what I found:
Code:
# file data.ext4.win
data.ext4.win: POSIX tar archive (GNU)
# mkdir data
# cd data
# tar xf ../data.ext4.win
tar: Removing leading `/' from member names
...
While this worked, I was surprised that 7Zip complained that it did not recognize the file type, even when I changed the name to 'data.tar'.
Long story short: TWRP '*.ext4.win' backup files appear to be '*.tar' UNIX "tape archives". I would hesitate to say "standard 'tar' files" only because I encountered some unexplained wrinkle. (7Zip usually doesn't have any trouble.)
I know this thread is a year old, but it's still relevant as there is not much information about this
On windows you can use tartool from here: https://tartool.codeplex.com/
Code:
tartool -x system.ext.win output_folder
better yet, http://sourceforge.net/projects/androidicsjbext/, gui ext4 extractor
Change extension from win to tar and open with winrar.
If on windows open the win file in 7Zip, Extract the .ext4 file, and then open the ext4 file with 7zip
hi my some problem help me for this format upacking

System.ext4.win00x files are tar.
1. Concatenate multiple tar files into one file.
2. Use Extractor by Alexey71.

Hi guys, I've made a batch command program to Archive and Extract files to zips. Why would you use this? Well, back at the time where I was porting backwards and forwards, I worked in a certain folder, then I just have to click on my batch command and it automatically get's zipped.
How does it work:
Extracting: Place your zip in /EXTRACT/INPUT and your file will be extracted to /EXTRACT/OUT
Compressing: Place your zip in /COMPRESS/INPUT and your file will be compressed in the folder /COMPRESS/OUT
Signing: After you Compressed your files, you just select sign and it will be named " updated-signed "
Note:- At the moment the tool and it's folders need to be ran from the desktop!
Ui:
It's a very basic command prompt.
What I'm working on:
I am going to add the following features:
The ability to Root and Unroot Ace
The ability to Odex and Deodex Ace
The ability to Add scripts to Ace.
The ability to be ran from anywhere not just the Desktop.
Installer and windows Ui.
ADB Tools
Sign Apk's
This shall later on be renamed to something like : The Ace All-In-One tool.

Updated the thread, renamed and added the ability to sign. I am thinking of making a Galaxy Ace only tool that can Root and everything in one, and perhaps a universal one like this one is at the moment.

Are you trying to decompile a system app from a ROM? If yes then do this:
You need the following:
1. framework-res.apk and twframework-res.apk from the ROM which you took the apk from
2. Probably administrator privilege
You need to do the following:
1. Navigate to Desktop and look for user name folder.
Example: Desktop/Carl/
2. Navigate to user name folder and look for "framework" folder inside "apktool" folder
Example: Desktop/Carl/apktool/framework/
3. Open apktool folder and inside you will see a bunch of frameworks in .apk folder
4. Leave that folder open and take the framework-res.apk and twframework-res.apk from the ROM which you took the apk you're trying to decompile/compile
5. Rename framework-res.apk to: 1.apk and twframework-res.apk to: 2.apk
6. Copy 1.apk and 2.apk to Desktop/<username>/apktool/framework/
Example: Copy 1.apk and 2.apk to Desktop/Carl/apktool/framework/
Once you're done, close and apk tool that you're using and try decompiling/compiling again. If still the problem exist, restart your computer.
Hope this helps.
PS. Sorry for late reply, kinda busy at work.

[TUTORIAL] How to integrate a custom recovery into your custom ROM

Hello everyone
In this tutorial i will show you how to integrate the recovery into a custom rom.
This way users will not have to install it separately

REQUIREMENTS:
You must know how to build a custom rom using Android Kitchen.
You must know how to edit an updater-script using Notepad++.
The WORKING folder of your rom (the one you get from the android kitchen when you extract system.img or zip folder or system.tar).
The recovery's flashable zip.
For this tutorial i am gonna use the PhilZ Touch CWM as example but this method is universal for all recoveries.
So, let's start:
1. Create in the kitchen's WORKING folder, a new folder and name it system2 (in your case working folder's name is gonna be different).
2. Extact the recovery's system folder contents into the system2 folder (the one previously created).
3. From the recovery's META-INF folder open, using Notepad++, the updater-script.
In my case looks like this:
4. Before proceeding, let me explain what is going on with the following lines:
package_extract_file("system/bin/recovery.tar", "/system/bin/recovery.tar");
package_extract_file("system/bin/taimport", "/system/bin/taimport");
package_extract_file("system/bin/taimportx", "/system/bin/taimportx");
package_extract_dir("system/btmgr", "/system/btmgr");
----- package_extract_dir(” “, “/”) – This command extracts all the files from the folder mentioned inside first quotation to the directory inside second quotation. -----
So since you created a new folder named system2, the above lines should be edited and look like this:
package_extract_file("system2/bin/recovery.tar", "/system/bin/recovery.tar");
package_extract_file("system2/bin/taimport", "/system/bin/taimport");
package_extract_file("system2/bin/taimportx", "/system/bin/taimportx");
package_extract_dir("system2/btmgr", "/system/btmgr");
5. Now open, using Notepad++, the updater-script for your rom.
6. Now copy the edited lines from the recovery's updater-script into the updater-script of your rom (add them at the bottom). Remove the show_progress lines. Now save the file.
7. Now you can build your rom and enjoy the integrated recovery!
8. Happy rom building
