The warranty is overrated. I personally switched between over 10 devices and I never sent them for repairs. Nougat is awesome,I will never even bother using EMUI,be it MM or N, because LinaegeOS 14.1 rocks.

Not overrated at all. Dropped oil at earspeaker and they replaced it with a new P9Lite.

Probably not, I even had to change back my carrier number because they checked fully software before giving me a new p9 lite. So if I had c432 when I get phone to my carrier, they wouldn't take it because I voided a warranty.

Yah, I bricked my p9 lite a few days ago trying to get back to stock, instead of finding my rom version to fix it myself I wiped ALL partitions then flashed stock recovery and locked the bootloader. I got a new device yesterday under warranty

I have a Verizon Galaxy Note 3. with Android Version: 4.3, Jellybean... I have avoided updating to Kitkat since I had heard that it was "unrootable" at this point.
Recently, I cracked the screen on my phone and would like to get an insurance replacement from Asurion. I am worried that I may get a phone from them with Kitkat on it. (or maybe even Lollipop?)
What are my options for keeping root?
IF I get a phone that still has Jellybean on it, is my best option for getting Lollipop+Root, to install Safestrap on my phone, and then install something like JasmineROM?
Thanks!
This happened to me. They'll send you one with 5.0 or 4.4.4 NK1. Ended up just buying an LG G3 full retail and keeping the note 3 as a spare.

I would personally look into the cost of having your screen replaced.
Asurion is going to charge you $100. deductible if I'm not mistaken.
Plus you will more than likely get a phone with at least 4.4.4 on it and maybe even lollipop. Neither of which will be rootable, 4.4.2 was the last version that is rootable at this point.

4.4.4 and maybe 5.0 are rootable just not public

I moved up to the Note 3 from the S3 because the charging port quite working and Asurion wanted $150 deductible. It's no longer worth having the insurance if they're going to start charging 1/3 of the cost of a new phone plus the monthly fee.

No offense dude, but it sounds like your talking out your ass. If it's the vulnerability that I am thinking about that was specifically pointing out 4.4.4 aosp, that has been around for months now and was posted for all to see here sometime ago. I'll give a more detailed response, probably should have did that from the start . Its broad anywhere/settings intent; the system passes it privileges to an app when adding an account. Using this we can push the required binaries for su access. There's probably other ways to do this as well. This Is also present in both 4.4.4 and 5.0
So when I said I'm working on it I'm creating an application that will carry the pay load and carry out the code.
Don't worry, I'm not going to ruin my reputation with false root claims. Its coming one way or another.

Good luck to you.
I've got faith in CovXX getting this done. The vulnerability has been know for several months, but nobody has attempted to use it on the Note 3 before, that's why it's not happened yet. Most devs working on root have jumped ship to the Note 4 or other phones prior to 4.4.4 being released on the Note 3. It's good to have at least one dev remaining to attempt it.

Not for our device
Hello guys.
I live in South Korea and just had contact with customer service.
They said once my warranty is now passed, they might not be able to provide me a free repair, but google will soon release an update that is supposed to fix the BLOD(Boot Loop Of Death), so I'd better wait for it.
I don't know if it will work, but for me, and people having a phone which can't even get to recovery but only bootloader, who seem to have nothing to lose, this update will worth the wait.
Let's hope that's true and we can get our 6P back to life.

Oh it didn't occured to me..
I also have some doubt that it's a software-related problem, because downgrading to MM doesn't even work.
Well, maybe they are fixing bugs that they haven't found before, or also maybe, the defective OS has triggered something..
I'm not sure that update will fix my phone, but for now, this is my last hope.

Good luck but I honestly wouldn't get my hopes up too high. But you aren't the first person Huawei told this to. Hopefully there is something to it besides them trying to brush people off. I personally think people should file a class action suit against Huawai since the phone appears to be defective and it should last for more than a year given its premium price. I've never had a phone from HTC, LG or Samsung break, no matter how long I kept using them. I've never even heard of another phone that has all the issues the 6P does.

Yeah I'm suspecting if there's an inherent hardware defects, and if that's the case, I think they should provide us a proper support like LG providing refund of Nexus 5x in US.
But, I'm not an expert and don't know what caused boot loop.
As I saw another person who may live in another country of mine, heard from Huawei that update will fix the problem, there may be something google is preparing for.
For now, there best thing I can do, is wait android 7.1.2 beta image.
If it won't work, that's a problem of then.
p.s. luckily I have unlocked bootloader, but considering boot looping devices can update their software only through unlocked bootloader, what should normal people having locked bootloader should do?

Maybe you're right.
I'm not sure if the update will fix my phone, and whether they meant 7.1.2 beta or officially update.
I also have a bad feeling that my phone won't back, but if this phone doesn't return, I have no choice but keep using my old-fashioned Nexus 5.
If the beta update doesn't fix it, maybe I'll just give up or give it a second chance for official update.. but for now, I can see some hope because Huawei said it to me.
There's some news about what I tried, but there ain't good things.
First, I downloaded N4F26O update(https://developers.google.com/android/images), which was uploaded in 2 days ago(Yeah, I only thought about 7.1.2 beta, abd didn't think about this) and installed it.
It didn't work.
So I contacted with Huawei and Google's consumer care center.
Huawei said, to talk about softwares, I should contact with Google.
Google said, they didn't receive any plan of the update which is supposed to fix boot loop. I got confused, since a days ago, Huawei once did say there will be that update.
They also said, if I have a secondary phone, I'd better use that phone and see if the update will be released and fix my phone.
So... I didn't gain anything. Google and Huawei both said they can't assure the update will fix the bootloop, and the only clear solution is to change its motherboard.
Well, I won't give up, at least unti thel 7.1.2 beta's release, but I'm tired and for now, have nothing to do.
I'll just wait for the 7.1.2 beta.
I'll just keep waiting...
If you feel compelled to support, and bring attention to this issue.

But that's seems to be for devices that's stuck in EDL mode.
I still can access bootloader, so thank you for your advice, but that seems to not work.
I'm afraid that you'll have to let this go.. Huawei is know for telling customers BS on the phone. Even the warranty repair center sucks. They downgrade people their phones and say that the battery issue is now resolved. It really is a shame, but they don't give a rat's *ss about you or any other customer who has already paid for the product.

You will most likely get a 7.1.1 device. Warranty it through Google
From the posts I have read about it, your warranty replacement will be a VZW refurb most likely on 7.1.1. If you get a new device from VZW it is still coming on 7.1 NDE63P.
One member posted getting a warranty replacement through Google still on 7.1 but he had to request it that way...
I just got my RMA from vzw it had Oct's software on it. I'd say you're fine. Also if you want to go through Google, I've seen post on Reddit where Google will send you a non VZW version.
Already processed the Warranty through Verizon, getting it tomorrow. Hopefully I get a model with old software... If not then I guess I'm screwed then? Lol

Then yes you need to unlock the bootloader. But please do yourself a favor and research the crap out of unlocking and rooting before you do it. Also the benefits and drawbacks. Those themes can also boot loop your device if you're not careful and make sure you have a fail safe way to recover.

Root is possible without unlock, but no one is going to burn a root method on a phone with an unlockable bootloader. Get the model that unlockable.
Like previously stated this thread is moot. Warranty through Google or deal with a locked bootloader. End of story.

I ordered an essential phone on eBay, which came in today. It functions. However it's stuck on 7.1.1. I contacted Essential and they told me what I have is a Sprint demo model. I run a few errands hardware tests and it seems it does have the sd835 (it says msm8998?) and correct ram and memory, supposedly. It said something like only 407dpi and a slightly lower resolution display. I contacted the seller and he told me that Essential says this to like 20 of his customers and that I can manually download and install the update. I'm hesitant to try that in case of hardware discrepancies. The bootloader says "Mata" for codename etc. Any thoughts on this???
I have the chance to return it. Is it worth it to return it and get another one? I want the correct specs as a normal ph1.

Mata is the codename for this phone. If you goto about phone and it is hardware revision 1.8 then you have the same hardware as the rest of us and should just download one of the "back to stock" fastboot packages on this forum and call it a day.

What is the variant in the bootloader? It must be unlocked, so in that case, you should get OTA updates as they are released.
It does say unlocked but it would not receive OTAs, I spent a good couple hours trying and troubleshooting. I contacted Essential and that's when they told me it's probably a Sprint demo. I just unlocked the bootloader and updated everything manually then relocked the bootloader.
You could flash last months 9.0 release, use it like that for a bit and see what happens. Would be the fastest way to determine whether it will update now or not. Also you should leave the bootloader unlocked, from what I've seen on this forum relocking the bootloader has been the cause of 99% of bricking for this phone.
Thanks for the info. I may try the recent prior update thing, if not I guess I can always manually flash.

Hi guys. I am thinking to buy this phone in upcoming independence day sales for rs 7500 32gb.
I see good development community for this device. Good custom roms.
Do guys recommend it.?
yes, i would recommend it. i got 4gb 64gb for 7600 in last month. totally worth it. excellent battery backup. can play pubg even on hdr with BAGT tool without lag. FYI oreo 340 firmware is best for this device. which has good brightness and loud sound. also charges faster and gives good battery life. now im bored of using stock rom so decided to try some custom pie roms.
Hey man same thing I have in my mind also.. planning to buy tommorw sale (8th August), came here for review . I have also done some investigation on this. Seems all good with Oreo. Have some bugs in pie and my only concern is it don't have Gorilla glass ..what's your opinion , let me know
Where you are getting for 7500?, In flip-kart they increased the price to 8000
Check 2GUD, Refurbished Phones but Flipkart owns 2GUD so no problem. (Not Promoting)
You can easily get 4/64 variant at ₹7800 and 3/32 at ₹6500.
You don't have to use Google service anymore with this phone of you rooted it, and I've some today and its working great and battery life got more awesome, check this post https://forum.xda-developers.com/asus-zenfone-max-pro-m1/how-to/install-microg-asus-zenfone-max-pro-m1-t3953130 we all can leave the Google out of our life.:laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh:

Same here. I have ordered with external warranty ( ₹99 )and awaiting for delivery. One thing, Are you going to root now itself or You will wait until the warranty expiry date?
One more , Even if we root and do naughty stuffs , we can flash the original firmware and gain warranty right?

My first asus device. I'm still exploring asus.
I have been using Xiaomi till now. Xiaomi devices do not have any issue even if you officially unlock, you can still flash fastboot rom which locks bootloader. So no issues.
I haven't unlocked or rooted this device till now but will do that soon.

I'm still sceptical,I heard this phone doesn't support Vodafone 4G(band 1) im not sure, and it looks like lot issues with this phone based on users post, but this custom rom community is strong compared to other mid range mobiles,so im confused.

I am Airtel user so no issues.
I have bought this device just because it has good dev community comparatively and also got official pixel experience ROM.
One can go with this mobile if camera is not concern.

I can't able to see OEM unlock option in developer mode. Is any one got it ? Or is it not mandatory to unlock OEM?
