I changed my device name in build. Prop - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Questions & Answers

Now my phone won't load I get past the S7 edge splash screen but after that I get a black screen and my phone vibrates about every 10 seconds I'm on rooted ph1 and I did make a backup of my build. Prop before I rebooted my phone is there any way to fix this without using Odin and starting over

Sorry, but there really isn't a way to go back from this without losing all of your data and re-flashing the firmware. There are no recovery tools available that will allow you to fix that. Just remember that it is imperative for you to constantly back up your files and apps so you don't end up losing them. You can make an NANDroid backup through flashfire before doing something that could potentially brick the phone so that once you start over, you can just reflash that through flashfire and have everything back to normal.

Try wiping cache, but if that doesn't work you'll most likely need to use ODIN and restore stock

[Q] At my wits end

tl;dr phone is in some kind of bootloop, tried flashing stock firmware (successful but can't get past start splash screen), plz halp me
So I was just simply browsing on my phone on reddit is fun app, some Google Chrome sites, and 9gag. So then I saved a gif on 9gag and the phone just gives up on me. It went straight to shut down without any warning whatsoever and proceeded to restart. Thinking that it was just an unusual one time thing, the phone kept rebooting and I started really getting worried. I kept getting the Samsung Galaxy S4 splash screen and after that a black screen and then it vibrated twice and I saw the splash screen again. Didn't even get to see the menu for SafeStrap. After several unsuccessful attempts, I finally accessed SafeStrap after restarting the phone from download mode pressing the volume down button. To make as much precious time as I had, I made a backup (although I checked enable compression which I shouldn't have but I didn't have a lot of space on my SD card) and made an advanced wipe cleaning everything except the SD card. I then proceeded to flash a different custom ROM (GoldenEye if you were wondering) and hoped that it was just a custom ROM error that kept giving bootloops. No such luck. The different ROM didn't even help. So I went back to SafeStrap and made another advanced wipe. At this point, I decided to flash stock firmware via Odin from this link (http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s4-att/general/guide-odin-to-stock-updating-rooting-t2926642) with NB1 base. I remember having flashed the non-rootable version successfully and restarted the phone after that. Got past the Samsung Galaxy S4 splash screen and went all the way to ATT splash screen but then it crashed right there. After that, I couldn't figure out the problem and I couldn't flash any more stock firmware (at least from that link) via Odin because I kept getting a fail notice. I asked this question on reddit and the responses kept saying that I may have a defective power button but it doesn't stay shut down and instead bootloops. Should I try to find a new GS4, get another phone or try sammobile firmwares next to see if there's any luck? I really need to save this phone as it is super dear to me. I'm at the point where I can cry right now :crying:
If you guys need any pictures or videos, I will be more willing to do so

I'd say try redownloading the firmware and make sure your cable is good, try a back USB port, etc. I'd guess the firmware files didn't download properly and so it didn't flash properly. Before you do anything though, try going into stock recovery and wiping everything you can from there.

Thank you for the reply. As for the firmware, where should I acquire them? The link I posted has only one firmware (NB1) and I cannot access stock recovery AT ALL. When I do, I can see the blue text in the corner "Recovery booting..." and then the phone restarts again. This is really frustrating

NB1 is the only one you can get, just try downloading either one again.

When you plug in the phone in Download Mode, does the blue box in Odin light up? If not, reinstall samsung drivers

Phone restarts at startup.

Well this is my 1st post so first of all hey everyone
I just spent a week in Amsterdam and my phone restarted twice, different times different days and I dont remember what I was doing with it back then.
But as I landed back home I put the phone back from "Airplane Mode" and went on to toggle "Cellular Data" on.
The second I pressed the cellular data shortcut on my the phone restarted itself but this time whenever it would finish the screen would be on but fully black and sometimes it'll show battery precentage at the top but then will restart again in an infinite loop.
Sometimes it'll pop up the "Optimizing Apps" window and will go through all 24, upon finishing it will restart once more and do the same.
I tried using the bootloader and it worked (the bootloader that is) but the phone would do the same thing even after Rebooting from there or shutting down from there and then turning back on.
I contacted tech support on chat but they couldnt help past telling me to go to bootloader and reboot, said I should factory wipe when it failed.
Also tried wiping cache but to no avail.
I have no backup of my phone (wanted to do one before the flight but got lazy and I suck for not doing one sooner) since probably October and google doesnt backup my contacts properly for some unknown reason.
I already downloaded Android Studio with everything included for me to try using adb to sideload stock without wiping but its my first time and I couldnt get it to do anything at all...
I already got the official stock .gz file from the motorola website.
Anyway here are the specs to my phone:
XT1575
Everything is stock. didn't root or change recovery once in my life.
Was fully updated and had plenty of drive space (I have almost 128GB with the 64GB version + 64GB SD)
I'm really lost here so help will be very appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
-Noam
Start with a full wipe and if that doesn't work flash the stock image. Not sure what your question is though as you never really say. Once fixed I would unlock and make a backup so you don't have to deal with this again.

The thing I pretty much want to know is if theres a way to either backup the phone now with it connected to the computer while in bootloader or recovery. or a way to flash the stock rom without wiping which I read someone did with his tablet. I cant post source normally because I'm a new user so here it is but change spaces to dots: schnouki net/posts/2014/08/13/flashing-a-stock-android-image-without-wiping-user-data/
Also while in recovery I noticed 2 options under wipe: 1. userdata only. 2. userdata+(insert something I dont remember here) and I was wondering what gets deleted in both? if I delete only userdata what data will remain? something helpful?
Sure you can try flashing without wiping data but being locked I personally wouldn't risk it. No idea about backing up in your state... somewhere I remember a thread on backing up without root try searching in q&a.

Out of curiosity why shouldnt I try flashing with no wipe if ill lose the data anyway? worst case wont I just have to wipe after it fails and flash again?
And I will try thank you
Do you have any knowledge about the 2 wipe options?
Thanks in advance
Well I tried turning the phone on and it took a couple of minutes before loading to a fresh start. It apparently wiped itself on its own. Managed to restore almost everything.
Anyhow the phone takes too long to boot now. Was even stuck at boot and I had to restart it.
Anyway to fix my software? Or at least check for corruption?

I337 extreme lag, random reboots, no recovery

Recently bought a new out-of-the box Galaxy S4 I337 from Amazon. Had i known how much trouble it would give me, i would have picked something else. When i first turned the device on, it was almost totally unusable due to lag and random reboots. Software version was 4.4.2. I used Odin to flash a rootable NB1 onto the device. Still had lag and random reboots. Upgraded to lollipop using this guide: https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s4-att/help/guide-att-samsung-galaxy-s4-sgh-i337-t3383078 and still have lag and random reboots. Also, the first time i upgraded to lollipop, i installed safestrap not knowing it wouldn't work on lollipop. Obviously, my recovery disappeared. When i figured out what was going on, i did a fresh install of lollipop. I got recovery back, but today when i tried to boot into recovery to wipe the cache, i discovered it had mysteriously stopped working again. If i attempt to boot into recovery, it just skips to the Samsung logo. I didn't install safestrap or any other custom recovery this time.
When i turn the phone on, either it hangs at the AT&T white splash logo and refuses to load at all, or advances to the lock screen. I have disabled animations and every widget i could on the lock screen and yet when i attempt to unlock the phone, it usually freezes. If i repeatedly swipe the phone for thirty seconds or so, it unlocks but it is still frozen and i have to continue swiping to prevent it from locking again. Eventually i'm able to navigate the phone normally, until it randomly reboots or freezes. Sometimes i see an error message that Touchwiz home, Process System, or SystemUI has stopped working or is not responding. This is always accompanied by a freeze. Also, choosing an option in the dialogue that comes up when i press the power button (shut down, reboot, etc) invariably causes the device to soft reboot. Other times a soft reboot happens totally at random, even if i'm not doing anything. Anybody have any idea what's going on or did Amazon just sell me a dud? All of these issues have been happening since before i rooted the device or upgraded it, except for the disappearing recovery mode.
Thanks in advance for your help.
Sounds like a data factory reset is in order. First you need recovery back so I would odin the latest firmware for the phone that can be flashed in odin. If it's still messing up then get Amazon to replace it.
Since you have safe strap though, try booting a TW based rom like Thor ROM or Golden eye ROM. That may fix some things.

Just wanted to bump this to thank you for your reply. Never got the phone to work but i was able to get it back to stock and return it. I got a refurbished S5 instead.

Freezing and rebooting

Classic "my phone keeps freezing and rebooting". I am quite in the know about flashing roms and such.
It started on the stock firmware 6.1.1 (i think it was). I dd factory resets, cache wipes the lot. It would still randomly reboot.
So i flashed Telstra version of 7.0. Still froze every now and then. Did the same things as above.
Flashed TWRP and wiped everything, flashed Renovate Rom and the bootloader for it, Still did it. Numerus factory resets and wipes of everything. It would freeze at any point from startup, to having setup the phone and making phone calls or on facebook or whatever. It would even freeze in twrp, or loading twrp.
I found that the data partition was corrupt so i re partitioned to ext4. Still nothing. I reformatted every partition so the phone was a complete brick with nothing on it and after flashing clean again it would still do it.
Whats the issue that I'm missing, or is there a way to log so i can find where it keeps getting stuck? It gets hot and blue light flashes and i have to hard reset it or sometimes i have to let the battery drain so i can turn it back on again.
pls help?
Hmm i will give you an advice so you dont have to wait for your battery to drain...just press volume down and power button for like 5 secs and phone will force boot. Anyway back to your problem...did you tried flashing latest stock samsung firmware?

This advice doesn't work with my phone even with holding the buttons for 30 secs and more. For rebooting I can only wait until the battery is completely drained. With little hope for another way shortening time to the next reboot any help is appreciated.
Same here...experiencing the same prob...
Same problem.

Sounds like you need your motherboard replaced i had the same issues on marshmallow thought the nougat update would fix it but realized it was a hardware fault not software..left it in store to get fixed and on repair sheet it said faulty motherboard..

As i know some S7 have motherboard hardware problem, mine has too, what help? warranty and they replaced motherboard. But if you root, you can say good bye to warranty, they look at knox first with this problem.

Bootloop: Upgrading Verizon Note 4 from 5.1.1 w/ root to 6.0.1 w/ root

After attempting to upgrade my wife's Verizon Note 4 from 5.1.1 with root to 6.0.1 with root, it is now in a boot loop. I had done my exact phone earlier this month with no issues, so I was confident I could do hers. Now she's pissed because she has no phone and I'm in the dog house. Fortunately, I made a complete backup of her phone using TWRP before attempting this upgrade.
So, can I just restore her backup or are there other steps I need to perform before trying to revert it, since I did flash the N910VVRU2CQL1_PartialFirmware_DevEd.tar and the N910VVRU2BPA1_N910VVRU2CPD1_FullFirmware.tar during the process, and also the JasmineROM_v7.0_N910VVRU2CPF3, though it was actually restored via TWRP.
The details are below if it helps determine what might have happened, but if I can just restore her backup, she'll be happy, which means I can finally get out of the dog house.
I tried upgrading my wife's phone since she has the same exact phone running 5.1.1 with root. Everything appeared to be going fine, but after performing the last step (flashing the N910VVRU2CQL1_PartialFirmware_DevEd.tar.md5.7z via Odin) and rebooting the phone, it now goes into a boot loop. It will load the Samsung logo for about 20-30 seconds, then reboot every time. I can still access TWRP from recovery and I have cleared Dalvik and Cache, but it still does the same thing. I also reflashed JasmineROM_v7.0_N910VVRU2CPF3, cleared Dalvik and Cache again, but still the same boot loop. It does still show the word Custom under the Samsung logo at boot, so I assume that is good news. Doesn't that mean the bootloader is still unlocked or something?
If it helps, the part of the process that had me concerned was after unlocking the bootloader. I powered off the phone, and then tried to load the recovery menu so I could factory reset the phone and clear the cache, but the recovery menu never appeared. It did show the Android fix-it guy for the recovery for about 10 seconds then a short progress bar under it for about 5 seconds, then it went straight to the Samsung logo. It never did give me the actual recovery menu, just the Android fix-it guy animation, which I thought was odd because I've always had the recovery menu pop up after that.
Any suggestions?

Not that I'm impatient, but I thought I had a backup phone I could put my sim card in until I resolve this issue. Only problem is I forgot it was an at&t phone. Duh!
From what I've read the Note 4 n910v is a robust and almost unbrickable phone. So I said what the heck, I'm going to restore my backup. I mean that is why before all instructions it is advised to make a full backup, so you can revert back, right!. I don't recall the instructions claiming there is a special process or order of steps to take before you can restore your backup.
So, I wiped everything and restored my full backup via twrp. Upon reboot, I finally had the "Kernel is not seandroid enforcing" and "Set Warranty Bit: Kernel" that I was accustomed to. I thought this must be a good sign, but then it went to a black screen, which I realized after about 20 mins, that it had powered itself off. So I tried it again and same thing, it doesn't reboot or even vibrate or flash the LED light. I can press the power button and it will come back on, so I know it turns itself off. So what would cause it to power off after displaying the first boot logo titled Samsung Galaxy Note 4 Custom w/ unlocked icon powered by Android?
The next thing I will try, unless hopefully someone advises me otherwise, is reflash the N910VVRU2BPA1_N910VVZW2BPA1_VZW [5.1.1 Stock FW]. I assume that should be safe to do, and I'll just follow the directions for the "Easy Guide for How to Root Verizon Galaxy Note 4 (updated links and instructions)" though technically isn't the bootloader already unlocked since I have the red "Kernel is not seandroid enforcing" and the yellow, "Set Warranty Bit: Kernel" and the custom unlocked lock on my boot screen?
This is where I'm confused, I feel like this is not the issue, that it must be something else, but I'm at a lost.
Finally got my phone working! But no WiFi
I've finally got my phone working again! I just can't get the WiFi to work. I have tried three different modems but still the WiFi will not enable: N910VVRU2BPA1_Modem, N910VVRU2CPD1_Modem, and N910VVRU2CPF3_Modem. I even tried restoring the modem I had backed up, but still no go. I noticed that even when I restored my modem from backup, it still said my baseband was N910VVRU2CQL1, but when I flashed the other modems, they each updated the baseband correctly, displaying the correct baseband version, though still no WiFi.
Any suggestions?
