Hello,
Does anyone know the phone app that automatically turns on speaker when the phone leaving your ear and automatically turns back to headset speaker when you put phone back to your ear?
Thanks
That would likely be tied to the phone's proximity sensor. When the phone leaves your ear, the screen should light up and display the dialpad/speaker options. That it's swapping to speaker automatically means a possible configuration error. See if you can clear all data for the phone/dialer app and reboot.

I was using AOKP rom, the dial app has the option that turn on speaker (and turn off) when the phone leaves your ear. Now I'm looking for similar app.

Oh, that's what you meant. Not sure if it's possible, but you could try pulling the APK file from the AOKP ROM and flashing it to the Lineage ROM to overwrite it. After all, both used CM14.1 as their base.

Is there an app that will turn off the phone's screen when it is faced down?
I've been looking everywhere to find such and app and have not found one.
You shouldn't need a tweak to accomplish that. When you put the device face down, the proximity sensor will be blocked and will turn off your screen automatically.
(Unless you put it face down on an overhead projector surface!)

I'm no programmer but this seems like it would be relatively simple, I'm surprised it doesn't already exist (or if it does, a quick search for me turns up nothing).
it would have to use the light sensor as well as the accelerometer, though. If you ever look at your phone while laying down, the phone turning off while upside down would not be very useful

That feature only works when you are on a phone call.
It doesn't work outside of the call function unless I'm missing something. My screen definitely stays on when I put it faced down.
The reason I'm asking for an app like is is because I've been listening to audiobooks as I go to sleep. Since the speaker is on the back I leave the phone faced down on my bed. I'd like the screen to automatically turn off when I do that to conserve battery life. (I know I could just hit the power button, but I'd rather have something do it automatically).

Thanks for pointing out Gyrator for this. I never thought about using it for this.
Works like a charm for what I asked.
Now if I can find something that will turn the screen back on when I flip it face up again I'd be set.
Tonight I have written a little APP that will switch off the backlight when face down and turn it back on when you flip it over.
Seems OK on my device.

I have a crack in my screen which seems to make the phone's sensor think it's constantly pressed against my ear, thus not allowing me to use the keypad during calls, switch apps during calls, and on incoming calls, not even hang up.
I was wondering if anyone knew of any way to disable the automatic screen shutoff so I can get around this. I am using CyanogenMod 10.2 on a rooted Sprint galaxy s4, but have had the same problem with the derrick Samsung os.
Thank you, and if I'm posting this in the wrong place, apologies and please let me know where it belongs!

The screen off during calls is controlled by 1 of the top sensors, not by screen touch...Maybe there is damage to or on the surface area above the sensor...

I know you're on CM but here's how it's done in stock, you can toggle the "Turn off screen during calls" when you bring up the dial pad and hit menu then call settings.
Unselecting that item keeps the screen on as it won't use the proximity settings (like when you put it to your ear) to turn off the screen...which is essentially what you've already described that you think is occurring with the crack in your screen...
hope that helps.

Never noticed that, thanks! I wasn't able to find something similar in my OS. I love CM, but I might have to switch back to stock for this.
Btw I also noticed it's accessible through settings > my device > call in stock.
Anyhow, instead of moving from CM, have you tried something like this app to turn off the sensor in calls https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.itsme4ucz.screenoff
or tried to use the Tasker app to toggle it off? might be worth a shot.
EDIT:
There was a mod for this, so you're likely to find something around that will coincide with what your running on yours - see this: http://www.modaco.com/topic/362514-mod-disable-proximity-sensor-cm101-based-roms-only/
also have you seen this thread on issues with this in CM http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2409698 ?
AND the other option is to try blowing air in might help, just in case it isn't related to your screen crack....see also: http://forums.androidcentral.com/sa...edition/311795-s4-proximity-sensor-issue.html

yeah.... AOKP supports it but it's a device specific flag, which means it's not in our builds as we have no active maintainer..

Had this phone for about 5 days so far, and coming from an old HTC one X I'm amazed by the battery life! And generally really liking the phone, however..........
I cannot seem to find how to mute the phone's alerts by turning the phone over onto it's screen. i.e. in a meeting or restaurant, phone begins to ring... and I can just flip it quickly over to shut it up and know that it won't ring again whilst turned over.
I know I'm probably being stunningly dim, but any hints?

I don't think so. I think, it's just using the proximity sensor to mute the device while receiving a call. An app for non-rooted phones will do. Though, it can be embedded in custom ROMs.

Nope it isn't that easy that just an app would enable it. X play has notification led also but requires custom kernel to support it.

I might be wrong, but, enabling the notification LED i.e letting power into it or establishing a connection to it (hardware level) is different than using a (already working) sensor. The feature mentioned in this thread is just a cleaver use of sensors.

The sensors are working correctly but for that particular trick to work there has to be support from software level and that comes from kernel support. I haven't heard of any app that initiates this flip to mute thing. I could also be wrong. I ain't a developer but just reading stuffs everywhere.
You don't need special kernel support for this.
Any app (if you grant the permission) can mute the phone by setting RINGER_MODE_SILENT via Android Audiomanager.
http://developer.android.com/reference/android/media/AudioManager.html
And any app can choose to be notified on sensor data changes of a specific sensor (e.g. proximity semsor) if it registers a listener for this sensor.
http://developer.android.com/reference/android/hardware/SensorManager.html
If you combine both and put it as background service you have an app that mutes the phone based on sensor input. E.g. if proximity sensor if covered. Quite easy.
Though for flip to mute proximity sensor alone probably doesn't help as the sensor is a also covered if the phone is in your pocket. I guess gyroscope would be best, which X Play doesn't have...
But maybe you can detect the flip motion also via clever combination of magnetometer and accelerometer data?
But I would be very surprised if there were no apps in Google Play which offer flip to mute functionality

Thanks for correction and I haven't heard of any app with that feature.
I haven't seen a standalone app for this (but then I haven't really looked too hard) but if you have xposed installed you can use GravityBox which has "Flip action while ringing" under the "Phone Tweaks" section. Options are:
Do nothing (default)
Mute ringer
Dismiss call
The flip action is defined as "device is flipped face down while ringing".
Hi.
I have problem with proximity sensor. While making a phone call, display is always on.
I tried to enable it in settings. Turned it on, rebooted my phone and nothing happened.
Also tried *#*#6484#*#* solution, and when I open proximity sensor, there are 'test' and 'error' buttons on the screen and I can't click anything.
Does anyone know how to fix this?
In the engineering menu * # * # 6484 # * # * we find 27 - Proximity sensor
When approaching the palm to the front camera should show "0".
I always showed "5", did not want to be calibrated.
I pressed Error, went out and went to the engineering menu, a miracle happened - it was calibrated.

Yes, proximity sensor in settings was on and I have rebooted the phone.
I really don't know what to do. Is it because of bug in Global Rom or is it hardware malfunction?

Obviously the proximity sensor is at fault. Enter the menu using the code mentioned above, then press the menu/options button and select Calibrate proximity sensor. Once you're there, hold your hand over the proximity sensor (to the right of the front camera) and tap the Calibrate button. That's one thing that could fix it.
Failing that, go to incoming call settings and turn off the proximity sensor (turn off screen in call). Restart your phone, go to the same toggle and turn it on.
If neither of these works, you likely have a faulty piece of hardware. Your last option is to have the phone repaired or try a different kernel/ROM.

Hi , are you on miui global stock rom? Or custom rom?
I just had the same issue , but in my case , I recently opened the bootloader and installed xiaomi.eu rom, everything was working fine. I got notification of update ,I downloaded the update , but flash it thru TWRP , and then with the new update, the proximity was not working at all. Flash again the new rom, but wiping everything , and now works.

Is the EU rom that better?
I mean is there any plane to compare the known issues between the global and EU ?
I'm using the miui global 10.3.3.0 PFGEUXM and definitely have some "issues" with the proximity sensor.
I'm still trying to tie down the exact nature of the problem:
With a quick test, or doing calibration, it seems to work exactly as I would expect; the screen switches off as you approach closer than about 2 inches.
However during a long call I notice the display start to flash "on" frequently in the corner of my eye and soft keys can get inadvertently pressed.
It kinda feels like it gets worse during the call, is it time or perhaps the phone warming up in my hand? Not sure.
hi @All!
is there still no permanent solution for fixing proximity bug?
its really annoying and making me crazy....
even after making it working again using quicktune app - doing one call it is broken again

Exactly what i've experienced.
Super annoying when you accidentally hang up during a call.
It happend countless times so far.
I'm on eu beta btw.
Wish there would be a solution.. . But afaik proximity is even more bugged in non miui custom roms.
I had this problem to. my proximity sensor what not responding at all. I thought it was defective because the calibration was not working to.
Then i went to the system update settings, downloaded the latest package and flashed it. After reflashing it started working with no problem at all.
Factory reset did the trick for me. Working normally now.
Install Quick Tuneup. Then do Sensor Celebration & Restart your device twice.
Two solutions

It turns out that the problem is because MIUI does not activate the proximity sensor when the smartphone is turning on.
To force MIUI to ALWAYS activate the sensor at each start, we can do two things:
1- Always have "Automatic brightness" activated
2- Activate the "Pocket mode" (the best choice)
After applying one of these situations, it is necessary to restart the phone.
Only by activating the pocket mode it is no longer necessary to have automatic brightness activated all the time.
In the video I show how to activate the "pocket mode"

I published this solution in a forum in my country (Colombia).

Actually, the proximity sensor for Redmi Note 7 isn't in the "usual" top-center position, it's a little bit on the top-right edge (if you watch the phone "against the light" you can actually see a small dot on that side).
If you're calling\responding try to put your ear at that angle, you'll never have those problem anymore.
I know it seems crazy, and of course the first times could be "unusual" to put the ear there, but it actually worked out flawlessly for me.

It works for me
Hi guys,
I have made a little workaround, using the suggestion of @KMILO_PARRA user. (pocket)
https://taskerprofilecenter.blogspot.com/2019/09/project-proximity-sensor-workaround-for.html
This is mainly for Tasker users, but I have generated an APK to be installed too. So any user can use it. But what is needed, by now, is root, as it needs to write to Settings table.
Please, report me back if it does the job or not.
Note1: For those users that don't know how Tasker works, just install the app, and give it root permissions, and allow Write System Settings permission (Android option). I recommend you to not set it as an app to be killed from the OS using the battery optimization, as it could be killed. It acts on every shutdown and device boot.
Note2: It will generate two permanent notifications: Place holder, and the one that is the mini-Tasker code monitor (required). Just, disable the Place holder one, as described in the same notification (click on it), and disable notifications completely for the installed app to get rid of the last one.
---------- Post added at 12:44 AM ---------- Previous post was at 12:31 AM ----------
What it does exactly?
Well, as I explained on my web, it just changes the value (0/1) from the 'enable_screen_on_proximity_sensor' Global Settings table, that makes the pocket option to be toggleable in an automated way.
So, be sure not to use that option as a daily one, as the project/app uses it to allow the sensor be available at startup. And do not forget that you will need root too! Sorry.
What to download if I don't know what Tasker is?
You will only have to download the APK from the 'Kid App (APK)' link, provided under the 'DOWNLOAD' section. Nothing else.
If you know Tasker, you will know what to do.
Does it work really?
I'm currently testing this workaround, but as I could see, at least on my device (lavender too), seems to be working as expected. But needs to be tested a little more.
So, if it does not what it's intented for, please, report it me back.
After installing the app, giving root permissions, and allow it to modify system settings, reboot the device to take it effect.
