If you have the 32GB variant, try to unlock the bootloader. I have the 32gb one that I bought about 3 weeks ago and I unlocked my bootloader following the steps on motorolas website.

Nope, got the 16GB that's still on -48 build.

bigunwhistle, I was also able to unlock the bootloader on my 32Gb MotoG4.
Do you always get the "Your device has been unlocked and can't be trusted" warning?

Prime Exclusive G5 plus

Hello I bought the Prime exclusive moto g 5 plus 64gb storage and 4gb of ram .
THIS ONE.
According to this post I'll not be able to root it, unlock boot loader or install a custom recovery, is this true??, it seems like a normal xt1687 (mine is xt1687 too acording to fastboot) in my opinion, is there any difference between mine and a non-amazon one??.
I downloaded the G5 plus toolkit and got the unlock boot loader information with no problem, also found an option in developer settings section that says "OEM UNLOCKING (Allow boot loader to be unlocked)"
What versión do you have? Xt1687? If your answer is yes, youll able to root unlock etc, i know cuz i have the same version. Greetings

You have to go through Motorola to get the code to unlock the bootloader. They will know whether you have an Amazon Prime device, and I don't believe they will give you the code. At least I believe that was the issue when the phone originally came out.

6T OTA's

I looked before posting but did not see the answer to this so....I have the TMobile one plus 6T sim unlocked but bootloader is still locked down (for now) is there a way without unlocking the bootloader to install the OTA's that are downloadable from the OnePlus website?

Those would be international/unlocked 6T Noms and are not compatible.
So the only way to get the updates as they are available is to unlock the bootloader and flash the international rom?

Yes. I did and I have the T-Mobile 6T. Just use the fastboot version to convert and then update to 9.0.7. But please read all the directions thoroughly, so you don't make a mistake. PM me if you need help.

Can only retail versions be bootloader unlocked?

I'm thinking about pickup up a used G5 Plus as a backup for my wife's Amazon version. I plan to unlock the bootloader and flash LineageOS 16. Is it safe to assume only the retail versions (software channel retus) can unlock the bootloader? I know in addition to the Amazon version, there is a Consumer Cellular version also.

All devices bootloader can be unlocked, you can install ROM in it after unlocking the bootloader. software channel is just to receive the updates, nothing more than that.

There are multiple XDA threads saying that there are no Amazon variants on which the bootloader can be unlocked.

I got a Moto g5 (Cedric) which is amazon version, but I was able to unlock the bootloader. So this device also able to unlock it's bootloader. As far I know Amazon version just mean it includes it apps as system app not as user app.

There was a short period of time when the Amazon versions were able to be unlocked, but that time has passed.

SM-G975U (T-Mobile Galaxy S10+) Rooting, etc

It's been so long since I last rooted my phones, maybe 6 or 7 years now... I don't even know where to start. Is TWRP still the go-to method for rooting these Android devices?
I couldn't find anything specifically for the T-Mobile variants, dunno if that's been done yet.
Thanks,
Nick
Your bootloader is locked and cannot be unlocked. No root or TWRP available.

No problem!
Is this device always going to have a locked bootloader? Flashing an unlocked firmware wouldn't change anything? Im new to samsung and have been out of the rom game a long time.

These devices will always be locked down. The last U.S. Samsung phone to get root was the S9, the S10 line are locked up tight. Flashing unlocked firmware just makes your phone carrier free so you can use it with any carrier, it doesn't unlock the bootloader.
What phones are best for modding these days then? Just came from a Pixel 4 XL and it had a locked bootloader plus tons of hardware issues that ended in me getting this phone
I would say a One Plus phone is probably the most versatile as far as modding goes these days. You could also get an exynos S10 variant which can be rooted and custom recovery installed.
