Don't format sd as internal.. It will surely decrease performance also may damage partitions of SD and internal. Phone storage is 101% optimized for faster application loading

I followed the instructions to enable adoptable storage for the SD card in my S7 Edge and everything was working fine until I did a reboot. Since then I'm finding that the phone is no longer mounting the adoptable storage partition from the SD card. The normal portable storage SD card partition is mounting fine. I'm not sure why it has started and currently I don't have a /sdcard directory which is causing problems (e.g. I can't use the camera or take screenshots at the moment).
Has anyone else had this issue? If so, how did you fix it? Any suggestions what I should try would be much appreciated.
Preferably I don't want to have to format the card if possible.
Thanks,
Mark
If you format yours with two partitions it may cause problems, my suggestion is to format it with one partition adobtable or portable not both, why to format as portable if you already made some space for adobtable storage, then make it all adoptable as you won't be able to switch to another sd-card.

Having it as portable allows me to it out of my phone and easily copy stuff to and from it using my laptop. If it's all adoptable you can't do that without using something like MTP such is way slower.

I see, I don't remove mine that's why i thought you're doing the same, then try to remove and insert maybe it could mount the adoptable partition.
Guyz one small help. 2day i formatted my sd card as internal storage on my g4+ then I had to copy all the files that were present before formatting sd as internal (i had taken backup before formatting) but when I connected my ph to pc after formatting I was able to see only phone storage so I copied everything in it having no other optionz then in ph storage settings I kept those files to be moved to sd card so it's been around more than 20 minutes moving is stuck at 27% ! What should I do now?? Ow crap i can't even post the screenshot as the system is detecting the storage is busy

When you format it as internal, it will not show your SD card because it's considered as internal storage itself.
That's literally what the function does.
For eg you have 32GB as phone internal storage and if you formatted your 16GB card as internal you would have 32+16 GB as your total storage.
And yes it would show you as Internal Storage as the SD card is now considered part of it.

If you don't have a high quality sdcard with U3 (not just high read but also high write speeds) then it make take a long time. I've just done this with my wife's Moto G4 and I gave up. It started moving but hung. I ordered a PNY Elite sdcard with 90Mb/s write speed. That worked much better and it moved stuff to the internal formatted sdcard.
One thing that is important is that it takes some time before it reports the entire internal storage that includes both phone plus sdcard storage. A reboot will help as well to have the sdcard be recognized by running apps.
That is just my experience. Your problem may be different.
The usual junk speed (or even normal speed) cards won't cut it as adapted storage. You need a card with minimum "UHS-I Speed Class 3". That's usually 90MB/s read and 80MB/s write average speeds. See the attached table.
The internal memory on the phones is much more performant than the average SD, that's why is more expensive when buy it in the phone (like when switching from 16 to 32 to 64GB internal, if everything else would stay equal).
PS: Some of the cheap chinese cards that are sold on eBay are really bad fakes, or just plain rejected cards from real manufacturers (meant to be destroyed but stolen and re-sold) and that storage will fail almost immediately.
I had this same issue. I sent my old SHIELD tablet back for RMA and got a new one. I got a new official samsung SD card, popped it in and formatted it to internal. So when I did that, it didn't combine the SD card with internal storage like it was supposed to. It just disappeared. 7.0 gives you the option to format it back to portable storage. So I did that and the SD card is usable again, but as separate storage :-/
something is definitely wrong.
I have an UHS 3 micro SD card but when I use it with my current ROM as adoptable storage slows it down drastically. Was wondering if there's another ROM I can use with pixel launcher that would utilize the SD card faster
I am currently using RR 5.8.5

Hi,
can you give me a hint what you did to have adoptable storage enabled? Thanks.

Hi wings02760,
as far as I know the original Samsung ROM does not allow format as internal, so I assume you did soemthing before to enable that option? Or where did you find it to format as internal.
Thanks, Gescha
I have Resurrection Remix installed
I had the same problem, but I repaired it. I have RR too. Put your card to your computer and format it with Windows (I recommend full format, not fast). Then, you put your SD card to your phone and format it as an internal storage. If that won't work, I have no idea how to help you, except of buying another SD card.
Hi, I'm currently on the Stock Unrooted G5 Plus Android 7.0, the device is only a 16GB but only 10gb usable space.
I have a 64gb SD card mounted, I formatted it as internal and I thought that would allow all the apps that are/get installed to the SD card. but it doesn't work for every app and well I end running out of space.
Would a custom rom fully utilize the SD as internal space?
Not directly... But rooting may allow things like App2SD or Link2SD to work and move apps to the SD card (may require formatting/partitioning of the SD card).
Under developer options there is a setting to ignore the application manifest and allow moving apps to the SD card anyway (Settings > Developer Options > Force allow apps on external). That may allow you to move a few more apps, however system apps will still be stuck on the device's storage. I feel your pain - my G5+ is 16GB too...
I didn't know the G5+ came with 16GB too

Same here,
Whn i was born i saw G5 Plus in 4/32gb n bought it..
2/3 gb ram on oreo+ devices doesnt perform as it is meant to.
:fingers-crossed:
The devs hv made our device a "mini oneplus":good::highfive:
Don't make you SD function as internal. The commercial SDs are not meant to function as internal memories, thus get easily corrupted. I myself got 3 cards corrupted after turning them into internal SDs. Just stick to the external formatting option. In any case, the apps would operate more slowly as soon as you install them on the SD, even when formatted as internal.
Formatting sd-card as "internal storage" not possible on Moto Z
- formatting as external storage works
- when formatting it as internal storage, it aborts, after this, you cannot open the "storage app" anymore. On the sd card, there is now a 16 MB and a 119,07 GB partition (see attached image)
- after removing the sd card "storage app can be used again (does not quit anymore when try to open)
- after removing the2 partitions on the sd card, it can be used again in the phose but ONLY AS EXTERNAL storage.
-as soon you try to format it as "internal storage, the same procedure happens again
- I have 3 Moto Z. It happens with all of them
- I have 3 sd cargs (Samsung EVO128, Samsung EVO64, Sandisk Extreme plus, it happens with all of them
- Under Lineage 16 all this is fine on all 3 phones with all 3 sd cards
- so, it is definitely a bug with the Omnirom image for the Moto Z
same here
with Motorola G4 plus: sdcard (128GB) has to be formated as FAT32, using original extFAT results in format request from OMNIrom, which crashes, leaving the SDcard unusable in the phone. Same when trying to use it as internal storage, formatting crashes.
