Guyz one small help. 2day i formatted my sd card as internal storage on my g4+ then I had to copy all the files that were present before formatting sd as internal (i had taken backup before formatting) but when I connected my ph to pc after formatting I was able to see only phone storage so I copied everything in it having no other optionz then in ph storage settings I kept those files to be moved to sd card so it's been around more than 20 minutes moving is stuck at 27% ! What should I do now?? Ow crap i can't even post the screenshot as the system is detecting the storage is busy

When you format it as internal, it will not show your SD card because it's considered as internal storage itself.
That's literally what the function does.
For eg you have 32GB as phone internal storage and if you formatted your 16GB card as internal you would have 32+16 GB as your total storage.
And yes it would show you as Internal Storage as the SD card is now considered part of it.

If you don't have a high quality sdcard with U3 (not just high read but also high write speeds) then it make take a long time. I've just done this with my wife's Moto G4 and I gave up. It started moving but hung. I ordered a PNY Elite sdcard with 90Mb/s write speed. That worked much better and it moved stuff to the internal formatted sdcard.
One thing that is important is that it takes some time before it reports the entire internal storage that includes both phone plus sdcard storage. A reboot will help as well to have the sdcard be recognized by running apps.
That is just my experience. Your problem may be different.
The usual junk speed (or even normal speed) cards won't cut it as adapted storage. You need a card with minimum "UHS-I Speed Class 3". That's usually 90MB/s read and 80MB/s write average speeds. See the attached table.
The internal memory on the phones is much more performant than the average SD, that's why is more expensive when buy it in the phone (like when switching from 16 to 32 to 64GB internal, if everything else would stay equal).
PS: Some of the cheap chinese cards that are sold on eBay are really bad fakes, or just plain rejected cards from real manufacturers (meant to be destroyed but stolen and re-sold) and that storage will fail almost immediately.
I had this same issue. I sent my old SHIELD tablet back for RMA and got a new one. I got a new official samsung SD card, popped it in and formatted it to internal. So when I did that, it didn't combine the SD card with internal storage like it was supposed to. It just disappeared. 7.0 gives you the option to format it back to portable storage. So I did that and the SD card is usable again, but as separate storage :-/
something is definitely wrong.

im just a bit confused about the sd card in general,,my phone of astro file manager has like,,,phone>sdcard>externalsd...which is weird and i never know if im searching my phone or my sd card...
when i try and load things i have dragged on my pc desktop onto sdcard they ussualy then go into phone>sdcard>external sd and never just .... sd card
i was trying to load images into sketchbook mobile and i could only do so from the phones camera pictures where i now have to drag everything omn the desktop....why cant i make use of my 32gb external sd card in this regard?
where are the applications for augmenting tehe sd card memory or whatever not for just having aplication sent to sd card memory,
does the sd card just work like say,,an external usb hard drive for a computer except you can put some inatalled application on it,,,,,but nothing like media,,photos videos etc?
or is it just me?
cheers
Your phone aka tab is divided into parts
System arnd 2 gigs
SDCARD arnd 14 gigs
System works as space for system
Sd as your sd card - Flashing doesn't destroy data on this
And if you place another SD card then it is termed as external_sd
So primary storage for you phone is SD Which is its own space
PS : there is usb storage folder (in sd card directory) also which is for your pendrives, etc

there are a lot more partitions than the 2 you mentioned!
efs
system (~1GB)
data (~2GB)
hidden
...
as far as i remember the note has 8 or 9 partitions (all of them have to be
subtracted from the initial 16gig (unformated!! formated it will be significantly less) storage!
so from your 16gigs you should see around 11GB as free mem on '"sdcard"!
i can't tell exactly because i have the 32gb internal version. with it a little more than 25,5GB are shown as "total" available (not free) storage!
as mentioned above
the rom has 1gb partition
data/system has 2gb
rest is used for sd card purposes around about 11.8gb
the device sees the internal memory as sd memory, the external sd card is seen under /external_sd
the file mangers will automatically go directly to the internal storage when browsing
i understand that I get about 12 GB left from 16 internally but.....
what can I actually do with the external_sd?
I cant load jpeggs onto sketchbook mobile at the moment. Reaally annoying
Any reason as to why it wouldn't recognize files in the external_sd?
Also we were saying about partitins and other random folder in the phone SD and external sd? anyone got a referrl to which ones can be deleted and generally how to make the phone and external sd card more navigation friendly?
please this would be really helpful
external_sd is your physical micro sd card, you can do what you want with it, i personally have all my music and movies on there
what files are you putting on the card?

Hey all,
Forgive me if this question has been asked before (Google did not help me find an answer) but I'm looking for the "best practice" method of upgrading my MicroSD card once it's already been mapped to internal storage using Marshmallow's "Flex Storage" capability.
I bought a 32GB Moto X Pure Edition and promptly installed my fastest MicroSD card (a 32GB PNY U3 Turbo card) and set it to function as internal storage after the Marshmallow update.
Since then, I bought a 64GB U3 card so that I'd have ample space for music and video. What I'm trying to figure out is the process to:
1) Take a snapshot of my internal storage (i.e. copy to an external HDD)
2) Remove the "old" microSD without any detrimental affect to installed applications
3) Mount the "new" larger microSD as internal storage
4) Copy everything back to the new internal storage
Is there a documented process for doing this, or some sort of migration tool I can use to upgrade the microSD capacity?
Good question
Bumpage. Has anyone seen anything on the nets describing the storage upgrade process for Flex Storage?
Probably not possible unless you flash a new ROM over the old. My understanding is that the sd card, once made to be part of the phone storage, is that it is 128bit encrypted in EXT4 format.

The thing is I currently have more internal storage free space available than actual data stored on my SD, so ideally there should be a way to migrate my data back to true internal storage, eject the SD, and replace with a bigger card?
Even if I have to do it manually, I want to make sure I don't screw with installed apps.
Sent from my XT1575 using Tapatalk
Might be a stupid question but have you tried taking out the card and seeing what happens?
I think the moral here is to start with the largest capacity card you think you'll need. 64GB cards are dirt cheap these days. Unless you need your entire mp3 collection on your phone, I doubt there is a real need for anything bigger.
I mentioned this in another thread, but probably more appropriate here. There is a way to partition the card for both internal and external storage. Portion of it is used for apps/data while the rest for pics/music and is visible when not in the phone.
The question is, can you create a twrp image of the system & internal storage with one sd card. Replace it with a different one, repartition it (in recovery), then restore your data?

Hello,
There might be a solution.
(Please notice I translate the android names from French, so there might be some variations)
In the settings/storage, click on the interal memory line.
In the settings -the 3 dots top right-, you might be able to transfer data from SD to internal memory.
Then, you can format back you sd card, remove and replace it, and voila, that should work.
My 2 cents,
I have an old Lexar microSDXC 633x UHS-I 128GB (previously used in 5 other Android devices)
I opted as internal storage.
It shows up as 256GB and free space calculations are cuz of that messed up.
External Apps can either see the onboard or the internal memory (not both)
Should I be worried? (Or how I can test its all working good?)
Can you try formatting it once from inside the phone and not the computer? Be sure to take a backup first

Not sure it would make a difference.
I already did that. It would not let you use it as Internal Storage if I did not Format it first.
And you cant take a backup of internal SD. IIRC it will not be usable and apps that had data there will be also corrupted.
A couple of options. 1st is to try a cleaner like ccleaner and see if that sorts it by cleaning the cache, last resort is a factory reset which has worked before now. The other thing is that it could be either a fake card (possibly) and/or damaged but the last is highly unlikely.

Tried ccleaner. Factory reset I will try only if I see any issues.
And ehm... no ... the card that I bought in a normal shop and used for many years (as I said) is not fake or damaged.
Antutu reports all correctly, so this lets me to believe its just Xiaomi or Oreo issue.

Hmm weird that it is showing 256gb as the phone specs only allow up to 128gb. My guess is the card itself as I have a 32gb in mine and it shows up fine.

Man, I'm having this exact problem but with a 128GB Sony UHS-1.
This should be a bug in Oreo.
I have the same "issue" with a brand new 64 GB Samsung SD card. And: before updating to Oreo, the storage capacity was shown correctly. So this seems to be a bug in Oreo. However, I don't find any other comments on this on the Internet, so it's probably limited to the Mi A1?

On the same Oreo version I had no problem with 64 GB Samsung Evo plus but found bug with same type 32 GB card. Not native apps shows correct size but Android says that it's half of memory occupared by system files
My wife's A1 has a problem with SD card. It doesn't format either as storage or as internal memory. It's a original Sandisk 64Gb UHS-I. She used it in her former Moto X Style and I formatted in a LG Pad 8.3 without problems. I took a crap SD Card and it formatted as storage without problem in A1.
I am experiencing the same problem, this is still an issue. If anyone has an idea for a fix, please let us know.
Yes, same problem with a genuine Samsung EVO Plus 64GB SDXC card. Shows up as 128GB card with 64GB used when formatted as internal system storage, but as a 64GB card when formatted as "removable" storage. So it's a phone-specific bug in some way.
Same here, my phone is 32gb, installed a 32gb sd card and format as internal, now its show total 96gb and the card is 64gb with more than 32gb used.
I think it add internal onto sd card and show that 32gb is already use, which mean its show 64gb sdcard but actually we get same useable amount.
Btw its still show correct available free space so its not a problem.
Hello ! same thing here with a samsung galaxy s5 sm-g900f on resurrection remix oreo 8.1 with four differents card : size 16 gB on esxternal memory , 32 GB on internal memory and also for 128GB it goes to 256GB on internal memory
just want to try with android 6.0.1 with the patch which unlock this feature https://forum.xda-developers.com/samsung-a-series/general/patch-adoptable-storage-enabler-t3470648 and its not good either. i can see the right size of the phone 16GB , the right size of sd card 119 GB but the sum above show: 256GB
I do have the same problem with my LG G6 and Samsung Evo Plus 128GB memory card.
If any workaround, please post.
But it doesn't affect the functionality, it works as intended. But when I see the storage in settings showing odd numbers.

I have the exact same problem. Same SD card. Although everything seems to work okay. Btw. I am on Android Pie.
In Solid Explorer the internalstorage isn't even shown. Only the SD card. Unlogical since the SD should expand the internal storage.
Imho a major f*ck up.
How can you trust your phone if the storage info is unreliable. ?

Hi there,
I have installed SD Card in Nokia 5 and selected as "internal storage" and moved as many apps as possible in SD card. But when I tried to access SD Card through builtin file explorer "Files" and self installed "ASUS File Manager", the card is not visible. I have connected phone with laptop, it also do not show the card. It only show 16 GB of mobile storage. I am unable to copy any data in the card. Not even all the apps can be moved to card as well.
Is there any way, I can access SD Card for normal data storage and movement while SD Card is selected as Internal Storage. Any expertise please?
Hi bro,
Same thing for me, and I have made a Software Reset, so I lost the decryption key for SD, so my 16GB SanDisk SD card can't be shown on any devices or PC (Running Windows or Linux). My advice, is to format the SD as media device and move what you want.
Nokia definitely has a problem with this feature, I, tried to format my 32GB Transcend 300X card as internal and it stucked and rebooted itself, leaving me with an unusable card. I bought a new one and set it as a portable. Nokia recommends card with read speed above 80mb/s, so I got one with 95mb/s but you can still feel the lag sometimes...

Hi, My SD card on Nokia 5 suddenly stooped being recognized one day and all my apps and data was lost. I switched off the phone and reinserted the card, but no use. Then I took the card for recovery with a data recovery company. They called and told me that all they can see on my SD card is garbage and it could be encrypted or its logical drive could have completely been wiped. I had encrypted my phone but I haven't encrypted my card. Any pointers on what should I do next? The data is very precious to me and I need to recover it.

Same situation same SD Card here.
After throwing away the unusable card I am using a Trancsend 64GiB card as internal. The phone takes a whole lot of time to properly boot the SD Card after rebooting. Also sometimes the phone says SD Card as corrupted then everyone will choose to reboot but after rebooting the phone temporarily dies. No command, no charging animation (temporarily brick), I faced this twice. After an hour I plugged it to charger again then it showed up that it's still alive...

Hi all,
I'm writing here hoping someone could help me with what's happening with my phone.
I've had this Moto G5 Plus (with a 16 gb MicroSD on) for about a year and I never had any problem until yesterday.
Yesterday morning, after I backed up Whatsapp using Google Drive for the first time (and I mention it because it's the only thing I did before starting to notice the issues, I don't know if it's related) I noticed that I couldn't download images and voice notes on Whatsapp - when I try to do it I get a "Download Failed, The download was unable o complete. Please try again later" message - nor send them - trying to do so I get a "camera failed" message.
When connecting the phone to my PC I can't copy anything on it, when I try to do it it seems like Windows is starting to copy stuff, but then the progress bar doesn't move and nothing happens.
Yesterday I took a couple of photos, but I later found out that they weren't saved anywhere on the phone.
I'm also having issues loading videos on Instagram - they keep loading but won't stream - and trying to clean the phone with Google Files Go I'm getting a "Can't delete file. Error Unknown".
I honestly have no idea what could be causing it (but it looks like something's up with the storage) or how to solve it, so I'm hoping anyone could shed some light on this.
Many thanks in advance
EDIT: forgot to say, the phone is completely stock and not rooted

I'm not entirely sure what you mean with that, can you elaborate?
I've had the same problem with both my moto g 2014 and my moto g5 plus. I've set my SD to operate as internal storage. The SD is not designed to operate as an internal storage and in both phones, the 2 SDs soon became corrupted. I've never used the SD as internal storage since and I advise you not to do it anymore. Your problem is that your sd became corrupted. You'd better check if the SD is still under warranty and claim a replacement.

The weird thing is that I checked with a different SD (which I also formatted as internal for the test) and I had the same problem.
You'd better stop using any SD as internal on Android. It's just not meant to be. Trust me, I've lost 3 SD cards because they were formatted as internal storage. Your other SD probably became corrupted as well. Try operating the card as external storage. Besides, moto g5 plus houses 32gb of internal rom, which is enough to keep a handful of applications installed on it. Keep the SD as external storage, internal storage is not a real option IMHO.

I'll give it a try and let you know if it works alright when I get home later on, but it seemed weird that the first SD worked fine for a year before becoming corrupt and the second one was corrupted from the first attempt of using it...I'll see what happens with it as external storage tho

I tried just removing the SD to use the phone with just the internal storage.
I've got 7GB of free space and when trying to shoot a photo I'm getting an "Your internal storage is running out of space" error.
Have you got any idea what could b the issue?
Have you tried wiping cache through recovery? Have you rebooted after removing the sd? Have you set the internal storage as default storage of camera app?

That wont "uncorrupt" your sdcard because the sdcards "identity" (so your device can identify one sdcard from another) is stored elsewhere instead of just cache/dalvik cache. Also, what do you mean you went through 3 sdcards? You do realize those flagged corrupted sdcards were only flagged for that particular session (meaning, for that particular install) so you could have simply reinstalled the firmware and it would have reset the sd. I paid over $50 for a high end sdcard, which has also been flagged as corrupt on several occasions but never "perma"-flagged..

I told him to wipe cache because the internal storage was flagged as full by the camera app. I know that this won't fix the corrupted ad cards. What I mean by saying that I lost 3 SD cards is that although I even used gparted to try to fix them, I was unable to do so because of errors I currently can't recall. I had to return them to the retailer I bought them and he returned them to Samsung (evo 32 gb) and after that I was told that I can have replacements for all 3 of them.

I tried all that and it didn't work.
I ended up calling Amazon and using the warranty to have it replaced, I don't have much time to play with the phone trying to fix it and I needed a fully working phone quickly.
Thanks anyway everyone for the help
