[HELP] SuperSU cannot find boot image, thus no root. - Zenfone 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys!
Recently, I flashed CM13 on my old Zenfone 5 (20160906) and when I try to flash SuperSU, it says that SuperSU cannot find the boot image to patch.
No matter which edition of it I try to flash, it keeps giving the same error. Can anyone help me out on this one?
Thanks in advance! :laugh:

You dont have to flash SuperSU. CyanogenMod is pre-rooted. Enable root from developer options

I specifically requested for SuperSU. I'm already using the CM's internal root but it's clunky and doesn't work as reliably.

No need to flash SuperSU. Just enable CM root in Developer Options and install SuperSU from Play Store.

Flashed to CM13 how to re-root?

Ok finally got CM13 working, still have TWRP as bootloader, but I don't have root anymore, I used Arabics One click for root access, but now its not working at all, I have downloaded Yemans root program, but it says its incompatible now. So any help ?
Was your previous rom rooted ? Try to flash SuperSU in recovery and see if that helps (this should work, haven't tested it). Else you might need to flash stock LP, root it with the one click root and then install TWRP, flash CM13 and SuperSU right after that.
No, I just rooted the stock setup, then flashed to CM13, and that was the problem I forgot to download and flash the beta SU
If you have a true custom recovery, you always have root - or a way to get there without flashing back to stock.
On my (CM13) phone, the SuperSU app does not show up in the regular app drawer, but is available in the Settings main menu once it is installed.
(If you followed the instructions in the cm13 OP, you should already have SuperSU installed.)
I can't remember if you need to turn on developer options in CM13 to see this menu entry.
(Settings->About phone -> tap on "Build Number" 6 or 7 times)

I cant root, please HELP!

I flashed TWRP recovery, flashed SuperSu zip throup recovery. Now I have SuperSu app which when opened says Su binary is not installed.
So next I flashed CF Auto Root through odin and again same thing, I have app with same error. I have 910H with Marshmallow. I am tired of searching, I can't root it please help
What Recovery are you using? Make sure its the latest version of TWRP and do NOT use Recovery's root option, when and if it asks to root, select no.
Don't we need to flash a root acceptable kernel 1st, like the Emotion kernel?
Thanks all. I solved it already. I had to flash a kernel first.

[SOLVED] HELP with : SuperSU, Root Access, PARROT_MOD flash for new flashing

Hi guys,
thank you very much for the wonderful job everybody is doing here.
I have been using cyanogenmod 12.1 with parrotmod for a while now, with extreme pleasure.
I now would like to try out the new 12.1 compiled with uber toolkit and I was reading the PARROTMOD thread that advised to have the latest supersu installed first.
REQUIRES LATEST SUPERSU INSTALLED FIRST http://download.chainfire.eu/supersu-stable
EVEN IF YOUR ROM HAS BUILT IN ROOT LIKE CYANOGENMOD, TURN IT OFF IN SETTINGS, THEN FLASH SUPERSU!!
Click to expand...
Click to collapse
How can i do that? Where do I "turn it off"?
Do I have to
* flash cm 12.1 plus gapps
* initialize everything
* "turn off root"
* reboot to recovery
* flash SuperSU (I suppose in systemless mode, but I don't know, the installer should know what to do)
* flash PARROTMOD
Is it correct?
I have had difficulties to undertand the workings of this new "built-in" root access. Do I have to simply flash SuperSU over the freshly flased ROM? And why so? Isn't root "built-in"?
I already tried this on a Droid4, but the installer always spat out "failed" as last message. In any case installing SuperSU via Google Play always yelded a "you have to update the SuperSU binary" message.
Help. thanks
I think that "turn off root" in CM is in developer option (7-8 tap on build number). Procedure ordering is OK.

I found out what the author was talking about. Most cyanogen mod Roma have built-in SuperSU. In order to have Parrot Mod working you have to start the ROM, go to apps, settings, DISABLE SuperSU, restart to recovery, flash SuperSU, flash Parrot Mod and you're good to go. I'm going to put SOLVED on the post

I am rooted, but not happy with my current state

Hey everyone,
I`m running LineageOS on my phone and am rooted using SuperSU which seems to work, according to Rootchecker and the feww apps I use, which make use of root privileges.
But I`m not entirely happy with my current situation, since it seems that more and more apps don`t tend to work with my rooted phone. So what are my ways out of this?
Can I easily unroot my phone, while keeping LineageOS?
Is there a working alternative to SuperSU, which would enable me to stay rooted on LineageOS without reflashing the OS and use Banking-Apps?
I`ve heard of Magisk, but I am unsure of how to switch over from my current state and I`am not sure whether or not it would solve my problems
Thanks for any help in advance!!
Magisk
You just have to go to SuperSU, then Full Unroot, then download Magisk 13.3 and flash it from TWRP. After that you should have Magisk Manager, if for some weird reason you don't, install it via apk
Then you just go to the settings, tick MagiskHide, then go back and open the side panel, MagiskHide - select the apps that you want Magisk to hide itself from
So I tried to do what you said.
I did the full unroot in the SuperSu App,
My phone rebooted
I shut it down again and booted into recovery
Tried flashing Magisk
But it failed, apparently due to my Boot image being patched by another program and told me to go with stock image
What do I do now? And will I lose any data by doing so? Thank you so much for any help!
Weird, but you can simply dirty flash LineageOS (the same one that you have now, or an update, doesn't matter) and it should let you install Magisk.
I did what you said and installed a delta update using LineageOS Downloader. Had to manually flash it in TWRP since I had no root permissions anymore. But I was able to install Magisk like a charm! Now I have to questions:
1. How do I update Magisk? Using the app?
2. Do I have to flash it again everytime I'm updating LOS?
Thanks for the great help so far!
And what exactly are those moduls? Should I be messing with them?
If updates come they will appear on the status bar and you can download them, and they'll install with the phone on. after that you have to (not quick) reboot your phone.
and about the modules, seriously? what do you think??

Supersu does not show apps after root.

Hello,
I have rooted my Samsung galaxy j5. And the root process completed successfully. But when I try to configure apps in supersu there is no apps shown in the configuration list. I set the supersu in grant access but did not work. I need help in this regard.
Thanks.
Try to reflash super su and if it doesn't do the trick you could consider flashing magisk. It's the same thing but with a different interface and more options.
I have Resurrection Remix, and I have Magisk fabrically in my phone. It's an amazing root manager. I recommend it, much better than
SuperSU.
Just download zip file, put it into your phone, and flash it with your CWM or TWRP.
