Luckiest Android User Ever

So I was helping a customer today (I'm a Tmo Employee) with their rate plans and then started talking to him about some phones. Well he pulls out a Nexus One out of one of the stock N1 pouches and told me he FOUND this (who the hell finds free stuff like this?!) and wanted to check if it was a Tmo or ATT version because his internet wasn't working. I verified it was a Tmo version and it wasn't working for him because he had the Blackberry internet on his plan. When I asked if he wanted to change it he was like oh no I like my Blackberry. Then here is how the next part went.
Guy: Do you know anybody that would want to buy this?
Me: As a matter of fact, I'll be glad to take it.
Guy: How about $200?
Me: How about I go to the ATM next door RIGHT NOW!
So now I'm the owner of another N1 so this one goes to my GF. Buuuuuut the best part is, it isn't just the normal one. This one has the picture of the Android waving a flag on the back with no HTC branding. Hmmmmmmm...

Just bought your self a brand new stolen ('found' is an alternative word for stolen) N1 Concrats! It's the best device with Android!

so let me translate for you.
This guy steals an N1 and brings it in to your store and asks if you'll pay him $200 for it and you say yes.

I'm thinking it could be a Beta phone or something? Looks like one of the ones that Google employees were given and were not supposed to "sell" BUT I have heard of some that have been "lost" from employees and were bought from people. But the phone had no SIM card and looked wiped when I got it. Was at the stock 2.1 home screen.
The guy didn't "look" like he stole it. Nice guy, wife, 2 young kids. I'm pretty sure the guy found it somewhere.

Grats on buying stolen goods. Not the smartest thing to brag about, either.

Maybe i said it wrong but i meant in this sentence it's an other word for found... And i'm not a hater just know how people are, they don't come in and say "i just stole the phone want to buy for 200 bucks?" That would be stupid! it's pretty clear it's stolen but i wouldn't care about it I'm Happy for the new owner and wished one day someone comes to me for a cheap good as new phone for 1/3 of the origional price (i got my hero for 150 bucks @ releaseday, found by someone i know )

I'd gladly buy your phone if it was found/stolen rather than try and track you down. (/not. it's very easy to track down the owner of a lost phone for which i have done multiple times).
Did you keep the guys contacts & messages on their or just go and delete them? so as not to spark your conscience. How about when you were deleting the owners google login details to put your own in its place? did that make you feel all light and giddy too?

If I worked in your store and someone brought in a "found" phone, then (a) it wouldn't have left the store again, and (b) I would NEVER, EVER, have offered to buy it. Totally reprehensible.
If you find something it doesn't automatically become yours. You're no better than a common thief. In fact, you're worse, because you knowingly paid money for it.
I'd expect the manager to back me up on (a) and help track the original owner down. I can assure you that if you worked for me and I found out about this, you'd be out of the door so quick you'd wonder what happened.

There was no SIM card in the phone. No contacts. Nothing at all. To me it looked like it was wiped which I'm sure the dude didn't do cause he had no clue how to use this phone or his phone which I might add.

No way to track down people from IMEI's :-/

I'll give OP the benefit of the doubt based on his story of how the events went down.
People lose phones all the time... that's why applications like WaveSecure exist. Without having any such application on the phone, it gets to be rather difficult to find the owner - especially if all data has been wiped from the device. Without a SIM card, there's not really anything to tie the device to its previous owner.
It is kinda sketch, but I don't think the OP is in the wrong here.

These "pattern lockout please help" threads are the worst attempt at recovering stolen phones. Its obvious thw thieves create multiple accounts on xda, Then reply with things like "this is happening to me too" It supposed to build their credibility by creating small layers of trust. Its to make you think "Oh, well if multiple people are having an issue, maybe this is just another failure in the long list of problems."
I wouldnt be suprised if they start pm'ing people who attempt to help.
The bottom line is, this is a weak attempt to socially engineer you to break the law by helping them break the law. We all know that if you forget your pattern its easy enough to recover from it. My son locks my phone once a week from incorrect pattern entry. With my G1 it was married to one google account so i was forced to recover via gmail. Therefore if they are the true owners they will have no problem recovering.

I agree with the OP, theres alot of phones on ebay and craigslist of the locked android phones. I sent a message to an ebay seller and his response was the phone was as is, but fully working. Would not go into detail when I asked him was it user error or stolen. My initial Vibrant I bought was stolen and I had no security installed. That mistake wont happen again but Please dont help the theives.

Yeah pretty much a big f you. I am a legit owner who was locked out the day I got my phone. Gmail did not unlock it so I called tmo. They walked me through a master unlock which made things worse, as now all my gmail info was deleted. Thank goodness there were people willing to help and I was able to get my phone back up and running. Its people like you who really make it hard for someone to get the help they need here on xda.

it happens, but tough ****, we can't determine the real idiots from the thieves so it's best to help no one get past the unlock screen.
(although on stock vibrant there is a known issue that the pattern unlock does not go away even if you do the right thing)

While I do agree we shouldn't help thieves, we shouldn't make such a blanket statement. Just because you get locked out of your phone doesn't mean you stole it. I've had customers whose friends tried to unlock their phone and locked them out.
But I can see it now all the unhelpful vultures on here as soon as someone asks about being locked out of their phone. "ZOMG THIEVE CALL THE POLICE, TELL THE MODS, TRACK THEIR IP, THEIR WORSE THAN HITLER!!!!"

i am not saying that if a customer brings their phone into my store i am not going to help then(i would get reprimanded for that) but online i have no way of knowing if they are telling the truth or not. when people bring their phone into the store you can usually tell if they are telling the truth or not, or you have a hundred tools at your disposal as a rep that will tell you whether or not they bought the phone and/or it is theirs

I am not suggesting there are not circumstances where everything goes wrong and you are unable to sign in using your gmail account to unlock. Wait... yes i am. If you are in this situation it is 100% your fault.
Take ownership of your phone and whats on it.
If it were so easy to circumvent 2 layers of secuirty on a locked android device... then why even have it on there.
Most if not all people looking to get around the pattern unlock are in possesion of a phone they dont own.

or they are completely retarded like 90% of my customers, there are thousands of people out there that have an android device and have no clue what their gmail password is because the sales rep set all that up for them and made sure that when they walked out the door they would have no problems. at least once a week i get customers that come in and tell me that they locked themselves out of their phone and i know they did because A) i sold it to them and set it up B) a co-worker sold it to them and i set it up C) they are old. most people don't bother to remember passwords just like they don't remember phone numbers, because technology has the ability to remember stuff for us then why the hell should we have to use our brain at all?
i am not saying that we should walk people through how to get past it, i am just stating that some people really are that stupid and can't remember unlock patterns or passwords, or phone numbers or whatever else. frankly i think even i have locked myself out of my old G1 because i changed my pattern and then forgot what is was(i changed mine once a week) just because i changed the pattern doesn't mean i stole it, it means i'm an idiot

Just because you have not run into a situation in which all systems failed does not mean it doesn't happen. Don't be do short sighted and pig headed that you under mind the purpose of help forums. I consider myself a semi intelligent person but somehow found myself completely locked out of my first vibrant. With the help of a few good people I was back up and running the next day. And this was on my day old stock vibrant. And yes the gmail auth failed even with the correct login info.

As I pointed out already(and I'm agreeing with you) this is a known issue, and t-mo has said many times that they plan on a fix but I doubt it will be soon

Overall you are correct. I deal with people all the time that dont know tech at all. The only thing I see wrong with your logic is that those type of people would not be on this forum. If the people bought the phone through a legit source they can go back to that store and get it unlocked or replaced.

Listen, there is a flaw with the fail safe of the patern lock. Its supposed to verify your google account info. It completely failed for me. First I was told I had to do it using 3G and not wi-fi. But neither worked. T mo actually replaced my phone because I got licked out
locked. They saw the error when I showed them I could log on with a computer but not with the phone which I had a receipt for.
Try it for yourself. Enter the wrong code until it asks for google verification.
Before you get your panties in a wad, why not see if there's a bug here after all.

iphone x 256gb available - anyone have a genius idea

Hi, I'm going to get straight to the point...
Basically I found an iphone X. I've done everything you can think of to try and reunite the owner with the handset. It's been impossible. The phone I think is blacklisted and icloud locked. My last resort was to factory reset which is obviously how I found it was icloud locked. All I know is their first name, imei number, serial number and the sim phone number which is on EE network before you ask. It's less than 6 months old and I am really ticked off that I have a £ 1000 paper weight on my coffee table which is essentially useless. Good only knows why the owner hasn't used find my iphone to mark it as lost and send a message to the handset saying "hey I lost my really expensive phone, what a dumbass! But you can call me on xxxxxxxxxx or email me at xxxxxxxxxx.co.uk and might be able to find a few coins in the sofa to buy you a beer and say thanks"!
So now what?!? Sell for spare parts or to someone in another country - f**k knows! It's such a waste.
So anyone have any bright ideas,anything, I'm all ears? Failing all else, make me an offer...

Can you even legally sell it? If it is legal to buy I am interested because a downgrade in firmware unlocks the passcode option and lets me unlock the iCloud stuff.

It's probably not. I wasn't aware you could do a downgrade to take advantage of some of the bugs/exploits in earlier versions of iOS in order to get passed the pin code and icloud lock.
Be a good fellow and tell me how to go about it...

Let google be your friend for your stuff, I currently checked and it seems they are not signing any early version anymore so if it updated already you are out of luck and you should contact Apple directly and say you lost your account.

Just a quick question:
why is your repl to use goggle? In other words you're not going to help me out personally. What's with that...this site is all about helping people, giving them direction... because sharing is caring. You on the other hand have decided that because there is nothing in it for you then you can't be bothered to share your knowledge/skills/wisdom. If everyone was like that, humanity would be stuck in the dark ages!
Just a thought: you might actually find that helping another person is reward enough simply by the fact that their understanding and overcoming whatever it is, was only possible because of your help. The smile on their face, the knowledge they have gained and the satisfaction of overcoming the problem is yours to enjoy as well!
Spent another day searching/googling lost phones/property in my general location and still no luck. The owner must have given up on the idea of ever recovering the handset. I guess I'm stuck with a ridiculously expensive paper weight. Although a friend reckons there is a big market for handsets to be used for spare parts, especially Apple. It can be worth hundreds, even when saying that it is a lost phone and icloud locked.
It's such a F'ing waste. Anyway thanks for your comments.

I consider it a stolen phone as it is not yours so I would inform both apple and the police with the imei and hand it back to its owner.

Police weren't interested. They said the have hundreds of phones collecting dust and going nowhere!.They suggested I try to obtain the owners details from the handset and use my initiative to reunite man and machine....

Generally speaking to turn off FRP delete/remove all accounts from your phone if you can still get into system. IE: Google/Samsung accounts.

Should work but due to XDA rules not supposed to really support frp bypassing although there are plenty of how to's but maybe this thread might provide some insight.

My case is the same. I've got the phone from close relative and he also doesn't know Google password.
It's a waste to throw this phone away really.

LOL. Had the link said that Zeus came down from the heavens and gifted it upon Kenzyyy, while jumping on 1 leg and singing the hokey pokey.... Kenzyyy would have had the same exact case.
I don't know why everyone doesn't just say that they stole it/bought a stolen phone/were given the stolen phone from a friend that realized it was useless after they took it. It's amazing how 100% of the people on XDA asking for this, have this exact same scenario. Now, onto googling on how to crack 7 FRP locked phones for a friend
(He was gifted them, as he works in a cell phone repair shop & they give a discount on a brand new phone to those people...literally the same one anyone else could have negotiated to w/o an FRP phone)
Kidding...Kidding...But it was just to illustrate how preposterous these unoriginal fake stories always are. At least be a little creative, like you would be when scamming the MSL code from a Sprint rep. By claiming that you're a developer and need it to test your apps functionality.

I used to buy devices from police auctions 99% of which where frp locked. But by law I owned the devices. I had official paper work. So in these cases frp bypass was legit. But. Every ones brother cousin dad mom everytime forgot their password and I've heard the stories so many times now almost identical in each case. Its uncanny. ????

Exactly. There are legit cases when people have them in their possession. But, when someone answers "My case is the same. I've got the phone from close relative...." It doesn't exactly exude confidence. It simply shows that the person literally didn't even try. I mean, who immediately says that their case is exactly the same, to the very first story they're told.
This ruins it for the rest of the people that legitimately have them. As the mods don't want many of these questions answered. Not only that, there are threads where it's posted in detail, yet the OP decided that they're too lazy to search on their own. Not exactly surprising from someone that states "My case is the same. I've got the phone from..."
If for nothing else, these are usually good for a laugh.

My neighbor gave me her s8 before moving back home. In fact she replaced it simply because of a tiny scratch... Some people? Anyhow. It never occurred to me until that night ****ing with it trying to reach her... She has yet to respond...I ended up trying to reset it and found this... Which I've never encountered before. I was a software engineer back in the day (University of Michigan Mathematics Dept.GO Blue!) and upon seeing this I figure piece of cake. Well I'm now impressed and indeed relish a challenge. For I really don't need the phone. But I'm considering a reflash approach.
I understand the purpose of such rules but it does stink when your real agenda is intellectual.

How do I unlock after reset?

Ok, so my sister drives Uber and 3 months ago a passenger left their galaxy s10+ in her car. Yes, she tried to reach out to them, and now that its been over 90 days and noone has claimed it, she decided that she wants to gift it. Well... She went on youtube and looked up how to factory reset. Now when it powers on, it says "unauthorized attempt to reset..." So shes asked me to try to access it. Now, i haven't used a samsung phone since before Knox was integrated. I dont know how the security works or how i can bypass the google account verification. I dont even know if its possible to access and use the phone now. Im basically a noob here. Can anyone help me out?

Which model is it? If its the US model (G975U or G975U1) i dont think theres a way. If its the international model (G975F) i believe someone has accomplished bypassing protection. Dont know the exact method though.

I can only assume that it is a US model

It sounds wildly unlikely that anyone would leave behind a $1000 phone and ignore someone's attempt to reach out and return it. And unless XDA changed its rules posting any methods to get around the lock on a phone gets you banned. Samsung customer service could likely have found the owner of the phone if there had been any sincere desire to return it to the proper owner.

Your sister is uber driver. Do you think the passenger don't have your sister's car info? I smell something fishy about your story
