What part is to be changed? - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi Guys,
I recently broke my Galaxy S4 Gt-I9500's screen and it isn't working at all. I just want to know if I could take my phone's screen on my PC. I'm rooted via phh's superuser and installed Mobizen for Samsung. When I connect my phone to pc it shows as removable device from Samsung. Can I get to know what part of phone is broken LCD display or motherboard. It doesn't even blink the notification LED. No screen OR should I restore stock ROM to check if there was a fault in OS. Please help.
Regards,
Agent Divanshu

If your screen doesn't turn on then it is a screen problem.

Why does LED doesn't blink? It's separate or not from screen.

Listen. Think for a moment.
If your motherboard would be broken, do you think the PC would be able to see your phone? Or do you even think the phone would turn on with a broken motherboard?
Does your PC work without a motherboard? I doubt it.

You should do more research, otherwise you might buy the wrong thing.
The Samsung Galaxy S4 has a Super AMOLED screen, not an LCD. Completely different things, like day and night.
And digitizer = the actual screen.
The thing you're always touching is just a glass screen, it has nothing to do with the images displayed on your phone. That's why, when the glass cracks, your phone still works.

Be cheaper to buy a used s4

If you're going to replace the digitizer, you should know that getting a complete replacement for the display is a much better option. The digitizer and AMOLED display are bonded together. To separate them requires a lot of heat, a lot of patience, and a very steady hand. One misstep and the AMOLED display will be destroyed.
Cough up the cash for an entire display, or do what @russy23 recommends and purchase a used S4.

So my phone was working fine and then one night it froze and then when i restarted it the screen showed up as a white line. There are no cracks on the lcd so i'm not sure whats going on. It turns on and sounds go on and everything but i just can't see anything past this white line. Should i check the connection of the lcd? Or should i just replace it entirely?

Looks like you may have a loose connector between the screen and the board. If you can open the device, do it and make sure that the ribbon is properly connected. If that doesn't solve the issue, you may want to consider replacing the screen or even the mobo.
So there isn't anything wrong with the lcd or the digitizer? it would either be a loose connection or the mobo? Can you even purchase replacement mobos for htc touch vogue?

Nexus 4 screen cracked - replace with only digitizer or full

Half of the screen works( Touch ) and the other half -- under the broken part doesnt work. Have already bought a screen ( with digitizer only ). Will this do or should I have bought " Touch Screen Lcd Display Assembly" ?
What I have -- here
Is the above enough or should I have bought this
Any help would be great.
Thanks.

If the display itself isn't messed up, then it's only the digitizer that's broken. However, replacing the digitizer is not easy to do. Watch some youtube videos, get the necessary stuff, and best of luck. You might end up damaging the LCD, in which case the screen assembly is what you'll need to fix your phone.

The display below the cracked screen(half cracked) is not responding. So, half of the screen is becoming useless. Planning on giving it to LG service center with the digitizer+screen -- will cost me around 7$ or so. So, I do have the proper replacement screen ( Check the links)?

Is this LCD problem?

Okay, a couple of days have been past now. I was using my phone back then, playing a game and then suddenly the notification led lighted blue and then the screen turned black. But it's still working. I thought it got hanged out or empty battery but it didn't show the samsung logo. So I restarted it. It started and I can unlock the lockscreen but it's all showing black screen. Can't see anything. Menu, home, power, volume and back buttons are all working.
I brought it to phone repair centers and they all said it was LCD problem and I need to pay for like $100(converted) for a new LCD. Are they saying the truth or I can still resolve this?
Yes, there seems to be a physical problem.
I cant say if its the LCD itself, or a cable, or a conector, or the graphics chip on the board. But yes, it seems to be a hardware issue.
If you are able to work on stuff like that, open the phone yourself, clean the board with Isoprophyl, clean the connectors and put it back together.
Maybe that will already fix it. If not, let them take a shot.
If you are not sure about that procedure, there are a lot of videos on youtube showing you how to dis- and reassemble an S4.
First things first, Hi
Second, Only the S4 Active has an LCD screen, the others are AMOLED.
Third, You say that all the keys are working. Are you basing this on the touch sounds, or are the any visual indicators?
what reaper said... if you go ahead and get it repaired insist that you get an AMOLED panel and not an LCD, you'll regret it if you don't...

S4 black screen

Last summer i broke lcd of my i9505, so in June i decided to fix it. I ordered new lcd from aliexpress.
Yesterday i get my new lcd and mounted it, but when i turn on the phone screen stays black, sound goes but soft buttons light stays all the time.
I try smack method, to leave some days withot the battery, to drain battery, new battery ....
Please help me
Did your previous screen still show an image after breaking?
Possible loose connection?
Possible cable damage?
Possible motherboard damage?
Possibly wrong screen? The S4 does not have an LCD screen.

No, it wasn't worked
I mean amoled screen
Any help ???
I don't think anyone here can help you because it could be a hardware problem. You'll either have to get another working screen or working motherboard to isolate the problem.

Possibility of replacing digitizer.

Hello,
I have dropped my Jiayu and the front panel is broken, the touchscreen is not responding, but I don't see that the screen is damaged. I've plugged the mouse via OTG cable and I could use the phone in this way.
So my question is could I just replace the digitizer and the front panel, or do I need to replace the whole screen? (where front panel and digitizer is included of course)?
I don't even know if replacing the digitizer is possible due to the fact that it is glued to the screen.
display and digitizer are one part!
But there is a possibility to buy just digitizer.

I have successfully replaced displays on 3 S3 already, it's fairly easy,. Replacing the digitizer only might be possible if you have the right (semiprofessional) equipment, but I doubt you will succeed. Try it if you feel sure... I would not.

I was in the same situation with my Jiayu S3 two months ago, I bought the digitizer (I month wait until it arrived from china aliexpress ) and brought it to two local mobile repair shops...
Neither of them would change the digitizer...both said they could change the whole screen part only as the digitizer is very difficult to change and you need special machines to do it....now im waiting for the whole screen part to arrive...(another month )
So your best bet is to buy the whole screen and change it yourself or in a techie shop...or look for another phone if the 50$ price of the screen doesn't convince you...
Good luck
Will this work? My LCD is broken and the touch is not responding.
