Half of the screen works( Touch ) and the other half -- under the broken part doesnt work. Have already bought a screen ( with digitizer only ). Will this do or should I have bought " Touch Screen Lcd Display Assembly" ?
What I have -- here
Is the above enough or should I have bought this
Any help would be great.
Thanks.

If the display itself isn't messed up, then it's only the digitizer that's broken. However, replacing the digitizer is not easy to do. Watch some youtube videos, get the necessary stuff, and best of luck. You might end up damaging the LCD, in which case the screen assembly is what you'll need to fix your phone.

The display below the cracked screen(half cracked) is not responding. So, half of the screen is becoming useless. Planning on giving it to LG service center with the digitizer+screen -- will cost me around 7$ or so. So, I do have the proper replacement screen ( Check the links)?

I have had my wing for only 2 months and I bought it off of a friend.
When I had it I noticed two little scratches at the right hand-side bottom of the screen, but everything worked perfect......until now.
The problem I am having is that the touchscreen is not responding right att all. The main screen is crystal clear (it functions right) but the touchscreen interface is does not repond to touch or when it does, it activates another section of the screen different from where was pressed.
Do u guys think it's really the touchscreen layer on the main screen that is faulty or could it be something else triggering a faulty reponse?
Thanks in advance.
I had that same problem with an HP iPAQ hx2490. The only thing i can say to you is: You need to buy a new screen and replace the old one..
sry
You do not need to replace the whole screen, but the touch screen digitizer will need to be replaced. I had that problem on my prophet and had to have it replaced.
Thanks guys for ur quick reply... I'll take the step to replace the necessary part....Thank you.
Doing research on this I see where these cost at least $50 or more. Is it worth it? Can you not get a new one cheaper using the offers posted on this site? Just curious.

replacing the digitizer has way more steps than just changing the whole LCD screen. I had similar thing happen to my old MDA and I replaced both LCD and digitizer with new ones. Separating the Digitizer from LCD might damaged the actual screen itself. I suggest go to ebay and buy a combo screen+digitizer replacement part.
I got one for my MDA for 78 dollar shipped.comes with flat plastic tools, plastic screen protector, T6 screwdrivers, and wiping cloth. Not a bad deal.
The only reason I suggested just replacing the digitizer is cost... My I had to replace the digitizer it cost $60 instead of $100 for the entire screen...
Hi,
As the the title indicates, I was wondering whether anyone who has replaced their screen/digitizer could tell me how difficult it was to do so. My current Touch has a number of scratches on the screen surface and I would like to replace it; but it functions fine and always responds to any stylus tap, etc., and displays everything perfectly.
I had two specific questions:
1. Given that I want to replace the exterior part of my screen, is it indeed true that I want a DIGITIZER and not a new screen? It's my understanding that the digitizer is what records stylus/finger taps. The digitizer is basically an exterior layer above the true screen (which is what displays all images, text, etc., through the transparent digitizer).
2. To replace the digitizer, in addition to opening up the Touch with a small tool, do I need to solder anything or do anything other than just unplug the old digitizer and plug in a new one?
I would hope that the whole operation takes about an hour to complete.
Thanks!

Hi yai, I opened up an elf several times and it is not that hard to do. A howto is published, with clear photo's of the interior. You don't have to solder because the screen (with digitizer) is linked with a (very small) flat cable to the motherboard. It is advised to use proper tooling
so where can we buy a new screen, and how much does it cost? can we do it ourself?

Yes, you can diy. They sell on e-bay for about 20 euro's. Have no experience with shipment or quality from e-bay sellers. E.g. pda parts and repair in the Netherlands.
Oseven published a howto in the past.
Sold for $10 on http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.20650 (free shipping). But be warned that it takes couple of weeks for the shipping.
I had to replace the screen on my touch.
I followed some instructions here clicky
The page is in another language, but its easy to see what to do from the pictures.
It took less than half an hour to get it all done.
I bought my screen off ebay for £11 including p&p
Works like a dream.
Dont be scared to do it.
Just make sure you use the right tools or you could damage it.
Yup i bought the same one from dealextreme and it's working flawless ,, there are sites which sell these digitizers for high as $100 even... i dont know how much qulaity difference will that make... but this one for $10 is working perfectly without issues till now...
Thanks, great offer at dealextreme. Just ordered a replacementscreen to test the quality, 3 screenprotectors and disassembly tools for only 12 euro's
Found a decent guide to help replace both Screen and Digitizer

I was off by 1 step replacing the Digitizer. Looking at the replacement digitizer I kind of knew that it is glued, but never was sure until looking at the guide.
http://mikechannon.net/PDF Manuals/OSeven's Disassembly Guide to the HTC Touch - Elf .pdf
I could have replaced mine months ago (which was working fine but had watermark like damage - caused by my toddler son.)
Sriks
I have done it and it was not very difficult.
You are correct you are replacing the digitizer and not the LCD display.
Things to watch for:
When you are opening the phone watch out for some clips that hold the bottom together. I snapped mine and had to replace the body. The idea is to pry open the top portion of the phone and then slide the back up to release the cover.
Once that is done you are halfway there.
There is no soldering required. Everything plugs in to quick connectors. Raise the white bars on the plug connector before you pull or insert the flat cables.
Have fun
Good info, moved to general.
Please most in correct forums only.
I recently replaced the digitizer. Cost Rs.1500 if u r in India..
Hi everybody,
My phone got a bit scratched and as the touch screen is not working anymore, I was seeking for a brand new phone cover as I'm going to disassemble the phone to replace the screen as well.
Alas, I wasn't able to find anything of that kind on eBay... You need to dig in the trillions of EXTERNAL covers that are utterly useless to me...
Do you guys know a trustworthy place to buy this internal phone cover ?
Thank you !
em..i had see nothing ever.
If by cover you mean the front "glass" which you touch, that's actually the digitizer (which is responsible for the touch interaction with the screen), the actual LCD screen is behind that. And if that isn't broken you just have to replace the digitizer not the LCD screen. You can order each separately on ebay, but be warned if you disassemble the phone yourself you'll find that they're glued together and if you're not careful praying them apart you might just break the screen.
Anyway you could just try separating the two before you order and see if you manage it and then just order the digitizer. The other option is to buy them both already assembled (although I think that costs a bit more) and just replace the whole thing.
Hi
I just dropped my phone and the screen cracked and isn't responding. I'm going away on Tuesday evening so am looking for the quickest/cheapest replacement. I'm in SW London UK. I have a second Nexus 4 that is water damaged so I'm not sure if the touch screen is working on that or not, but the glass is fine. I don't have any tools that might be needed either.
If anyone can recommend a somewhere that can replace it while I wait or send out a replacement for Tuesday I'd appreciate it. I'm not sure how this works and whether or not I would just need a new glass screen and or new sensor.
Any help is appreciated.
edit: is this everything I'd need? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/LG-Google..._DefaultDomain_3&hash=item4d2c44fff0#shpCntId
I won't have time to order anything that I can use by tomorrow now.
The touch screen isn't working but I can see the lock screen and that looks fine. I just can't unlock it. I don't know if I just need a Replacement Touch Screen Digitizer Glass or a Full Lcd Touch Digitizer Screen. What is the difference? Is the latter for if the screen itself is broken and can't display anything?
Any help is appreciated.

Unless you have experience separating digitizer/lcd, it's way worth the extra price for the whole assembly. The two are glued together and it's very easy to damage the lcd during the separation.
Hello,
I have dropped my Jiayu and the front panel is broken, the touchscreen is not responding, but I don't see that the screen is damaged. I've plugged the mouse via OTG cable and I could use the phone in this way.
So my question is could I just replace the digitizer and the front panel, or do I need to replace the whole screen? (where front panel and digitizer is included of course)?
I don't even know if replacing the digitizer is possible due to the fact that it is glued to the screen.
display and digitizer are one part!
But there is a possibility to buy just digitizer.

I have successfully replaced displays on 3 S3 already, it's fairly easy,. Replacing the digitizer only might be possible if you have the right (semiprofessional) equipment, but I doubt you will succeed. Try it if you feel sure... I would not.

I was in the same situation with my Jiayu S3 two months ago, I bought the digitizer (I month wait until it arrived from china aliexpress ) and brought it to two local mobile repair shops...
Neither of them would change the digitizer...both said they could change the whole screen part only as the digitizer is very difficult to change and you need special machines to do it....now im waiting for the whole screen part to arrive...(another month )
So your best bet is to buy the whole screen and change it yourself or in a techie shop...or look for another phone if the 50$ price of the screen doesn't convince you...
Good luck
Will this work? My LCD is broken and the touch is not responding.
