In the following thread I found a method for booting from SD card:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1572924
The principle ist:
-put system.img and other on SD card.
-boot into recovery
-install a special "update.zip"
When you do this, the update.zip is not really installed, but the updater-script is called which mounts the sd card and reboots.
But I cannot find the update.zip.
And idea how to do it?

In CWM my SD card seems to be the onboard memory so I can't find the Rom zip
This is what I did so far:
I managed to get CWM recover v3.0.1.9 installed.
go to install zip from SD card
go to choose Zip from SD card
**here it appears i'm in the onboard memory..not the 4gb SD card i put in**
Help im stuck here.
This is a "Known Issue" with the new kernel. See first post:

Try to connect the Tab to PC in whatever mode that's working. Maybe internal SD will show up and you can copy.
Otherwise, research "ADB" in recovery.
Hi,
I'm having issues with installing .zip files from sd card in cwm.
I've done this many times before, but somehow something got changed and I've got no idea what.
I installed cwm, then I copied the .zip files (the rom) to my sd card in usb mass storage. After that I went to AD Recovery --> install zip from sdcard --> choose zip from sdcard and then it says No files found.
Any solutions?
Thanks in advance
Okay nvm,
somehow it did not recognize that .zip file

I tried to follow this nice guide:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1045018
my Basics: original 1.2 nook color (using with SD CM7)
1) put a 8 GB SanDisk Class4 MicroSD in a card reader
2) format it with Panasonic SD Formatter
3) burned the "1gb_clockwork-3.2.0.1-eyeballer.img" on the SD using win32diskimager-RELEASE-0.1-r15-win32 (also tried win32diskimager-RELEASE-0.3-r27-binary)
4) copied phiremod-nook-v7-TEST-DualbootSD-CWM-package.zip on the SD card
5) put it in back into the nook and it booted into CWM
6) installed zip from SD and reboot
Result: some tries it just boot into CWM again (with SD inside) and sometimes it boots into Stock rom.
What did I do wrong or missunderstood?
Thanks!
1. The link shown setup dual-boot for uSD card, not on eMMC
2. As long as you left the CwM uSD card inside the NC and boot it, it will and should ALWAYS boot into CwM Recovery.
so what i need to change to put the Rom un my uSD card?
What did I do wrong?
I flashed my mobile a few days ago. But after flashing stock rom My memory card isnt mounting in stock recovery. Help me plz.
copy all sd card contents to pc
If you have any 2nd partitions delete them first using mini tool - if not move onto next steps
boot phone normally
goto
settings
storage
unmount sd card
format/erase sd card
your card should now be mountable in recovery (you can then create a 2nd partition in cwm if you want - note this will format sd card again)
you can then copy everything back to sd card

Click to collapse
Will try and confirm you later.
Every ROM i download/copy onto my SD card is corrupt? I made a folder and copied a rom into in from my computer and the folder became corrupted. From then all the ROMs i copy/download are corrupt?
There was a ROM on the SD card before that isnt corrupt. Will formatting my SD card fix the problem?
It should, unless the card is damaged.
I wiped the sd card in android and then downloads a rom and gapps to the sd card. In TWRP i did a nandroid backup of my current OS. I couldnt access any folders in Install ZIP except for the TWRP folder. I ran chkdsk on the sd card through cmd on my pc. I then copied another rom into the root of the card and flashed it, it seems to be working now as the zip flashed without a problem. I will try to download another rom through android and flash that and see if it is corrupts it again.
I downloaded a rom to the sd card in android and the rom is corrupt. Im going to wipe the sd card in twrp and redownload the rom
it looks like that has fixed it (wiping in TWRP).
That's excellent news. I had an 8GB card that would display one set of folders in recovery and an entirely different set of folders in Android. The only solution for that one was to download SDFormatter on the PC, install it, and wipe the MicroSD using that tool.
