Ok so I have an S7 Edge which i bought 6 months ago, a few weeks ago now during a call it cut off and restarted to a BOOTLOADER error.
I called samsung and had the phone sent in for a warranty repair as they admit it was a manufacturing defect.
I then recieve an email saying I will be billed £209 as my screen has a 4mm crack in the corner and has voided warranty!!!!
Well anyway they won't repair it...
Phone will not go into reocovery at all.. No response.
Is their any way to flash it without hitting recovery mode/download mode?
It seems that the person who looked at your phone was having a bad day. Some people will be like that, some won't, it always depends on who looks at it.
Can you take it into a local Samsung repair center? They can repair it whilst you wait. When I damaged my fingerprint reader by droppig a knife on it, the local Samsung repair center exchanged the phone free of charge.
You can search for your local repair shop HERE
Alternatively, if you can advise what error you are getting I can certainly look into it for you
They simply refused warranty - all samsung reps have said the same - Its down to myself to get fixed now.
I am not paying them £100's to fix it - they lost a customer.

Try this...
1. Hold Power + Vol down + Home keys and when the screen goes black, quickly change from Vol Down to Vol Up making sure you are still holding Home and Power, to boot to recovery.
2. In recovery go down to Reboot Bootloader select and long press power to change the highlighted colour.
3. After highlighted colour changes, select bootloader. The screen should then go black. Now hold Power + Vol down + Home
4. You should now be in Download mode where you can flash stock firmware.

As stated - it won't boot to anything no matter what is pressed - Error is the only thing it will ever show
from what I read it is a paperweight now... Now access to DL mode etc so can't use odin etc etc.
I was thinking of trying a JIG
Only other way I know of is a direct flash to the device itself via the mainboard... I do have the equipment to flash ICs as I repair laptops/ps4s etc... I also have the equipment and skills in BGA reworking...
If anyone has any idea if anyone has successfully flashed a device in this manner I may give it a whirl

3. If it does not boot to download mode, keep trying. It will eventually.

Well it sounds like you know what you're doing and you've tried all software scenarios. Let me know how you get on. I hope you get it working!
I am gonna have to build a rig for the NAND as it is BGA so I can connect it to my pi - I usually solder wires direct but since the BGA is so small I don't fancy it LOL

Same issue here, holding home power and volume keys for a hard reset does not work you need to let the phone die then charge it fully. I've notice this happening when my phone gets at 14 percent since my phone has updated android 7.0 updates . I have a s7 edge and just my luck this happened again this time i will wipe the phone and try and see if this helps. I am pretty sure this is a software issue and not hardware

I was running Fusion 1.1 recently, and when the Core v1 kernel was released, I flashed the 1.2ghz version, but experienced freezes.
I figured my phone couldnt handle the OC, so I flashed the 1ghz version, my phone started freezing worse. I tried rebooting and it froze during the Galaxy S boot animation.
I then adb'd into recovery and tried flashing Fusion 1.1 again, but my phone froze during the flash and now it wont boot past the Vibrant screen. When plugged into the computer, it only boots up enough the show the battery charge screen, but freezes before it even displays a battery level.
ADB doesnt seem to recognize any connected devices.
Maybe Im getting the hardware button combos wrong, as far as I know, a device that wasnt previously hardware locked cant become locked, right? I know for a fact mine wasnt locked before.
If someone could post the exact hardware button combos, cause Ive seen conflicting posts on this. Or any help for that matter, Im desperate.
try turning the phone off, holding volume up and volume down, while holding those two plug the usb cable in.
see if that gets you into download mode.

Nope, just pops up the battery screen and freezes.
A question about hardware locked phones, the combo Im using to get into recovery is, hold down vol up + vol down + power, and when the Vibrant screen disappears, release the power button, but keep holding the volume buttons.
However when I do this, the Vibrant screen just pops up a second time, which wont happen unless Im holding the power button. If I am to take "hardware-locked" literally, then the power button wouldnt even do that, right?

I just get stuck on the Vibrant screen.
Unless your Vibrant is actually hardware locked, this method should get you into download mode. I have always entered download mode using this method.
1- Power off your phone.
2- Make sure you have the correct drivers installed on your PC for the phone. (I assume you do if you were using ADB).
3- Open Odin on your PC. (I recommend using Odin3 v1.3 or higher, v1.0 has issues)
4- Remove the battery from your Vibrant.
5- Plug the USB cable into your computer.
6- Plug the USB cable into your Vibrant.
7- With one hand (holding the Vibrant on it's side) hold down the Volume up, Volume down, and power buttons all at the same time.
8- While watching the screen, and holding all 3 buttons, place the battery back in the vibrant.
9- Once the battery has been inserted you will likely see one of two things, the "swirly" thinking icon (most common) or the battery icon will pop up. Keep holding the buttons until the initial icon disappears and you see a full black screen is shown.
10- As soon as you see that black screen, release ONLY the power button, continue to hold the volume keys and if done correctly, the Vibrant will go into download mode.
11- Verify Odin sees the device. There will be a box that turns yellow with a Com port shown
12- Load up the .pit & .tar files for the stock rom and flash away. (May have to use re-partition, not sure though)
Hope this helps/works! Good Luck!

I havent had to use to the hardware keys in a while, so maybe I am.
I thought you couldnt use volume keys to navigate recovery if you were HW locked?
If it turns out I am locked, do you think Id be able to access download with this method?

This kernel nearly bricked me much like the problem you're experiencing. It does seem like you may be hardware locked...it locked me out of recovery with the use of 3 hardware buttons, but luckily Odin came through.
You do have the samsung drivers installed on your computer correct? This might be the reason why you can't get into download mode. I also noticed that even though I got into download mode it did not immediately show the COM notification showing I was connected...I hit start anyway and it immediately started flashing the other kernel I used to recover (JAC OC/UV 1.0). There is something seriously wrong with this kernel on certain Vibrants and I don't think I'll be flashing it again, even after updates.

I would definitely have to agree with you there, it froze during a flash with me, which is anything but safe.
Either way, I went out and bought the correct resistors, but I've never done any soldering so I got the micro usb breakout board since its a little easier. I suppose that will come in a week and then Ill have to put it all together and see if the homemade jig works. Wish me luck!

Good luck man. I too had Fusion 1.1, flashed Core 1.2 which caused freezes, I flashed back to stock and when attempting to reload Fusion I messed up the USB and it bricked, and I was hardware locked. I made the "Jig" and it worked fine after a couple tries plugging it in, got to download and flashed back to stock without any problems.

Strange, I release after the second Vibrant screen.
OP: it certainly sounds like you're hardware locked. And no, I don't think it means you can't navigate recovery, it means the buttons don't work when trying to get into recovery in the first place (I was hardware locked and couldn't enter recovery/download without adb; I used the flashable fix to remove the hardware lock).

I tried to update my firmware last night using odin (I've used it several times for my Galaxy S) and it failed, the error message was something along the lines of "write operation failed"
after waiting 25mins to see if my tab would reboot it didn't so I held down the power button to restart it and it switched off and now it won't switch on again ....
I've tried plugging it into all my usb slots, charging through the wall charger and tried using android commander but nothing makes the screen pop up with that little image of a computer and phone.
I can't even get into download mode, and odin doesn't pick it up. I think it's bricked for good,
I had a issue with the USB cable and had to get it replaced by samsung, now my ELF (Early-Life Failure) is up so I don't know what to do.....
Any Suggestions?
It's ok buddy its not bricked just plug in to the usb on the pc with odin3 on and leave at for a wile and it will come right back up.

Ok so It's still bricked.... I forgot to mention the buttons don't work eg. I push and hold the power button and it does nothing. I charged it for the day so it should be 100% battery and now odin isn't finding it still. Also I didn't have USB debbuging enabled :/
Now I will admit I don't have a Tab(til next month) but wouldn't you un brick it the same way you do a Samsung Vibrant?

Have you tried dropping the phone into Recovery Mode?
There is some confusion on what buttons to press where some say to press and hold the Volume Up AND Power Buttons simultaneously, whereas others mention pressing the above AND the Back Button.
If you can get into Recovery Mode you may be able to restart the phone.
If not and Revery Mode works try dropping the phone into Download Mode which is the same for RM but you press the Volume Down instead of Up.
With DM you will then be able to use third party software (Odin & a suitable ROM image from samfirmware'com) to bring the phone back up and running.
Yep tried all that tried

Power + Volume Down
Power + Volume Up + Down
Power + Volume Down + Home

Its not bricked.
Power it off, and power it back on holding the vol down button and the power button.
When you see the computer---!---phone icon, release the keys, and connect it to a pc with an open odin. It will get recognized ( even though you dont get the download mode, you are in it ).
After that, flash whatever you need.
Try that and let me know.

I had a completely bricked vibrant and had somebody JTAG it for me. It cost me 40 bucks but i'm pretty sure that's a lot less than what Samsung would have charged to fix it. I was out of warranty period.
If you know how to JTAG then I would give that a shot first. The phone is already bricked so I don't think you have much to lose.
In order to JTAG you need some special equipment. If you don't know how to JTAG chances are you don't have the required equipment.
EDIT: this is the link to the service I used. Just click on JTAG for the vibrant. If you purchase it 40 bucks plus 5 or so for shipping, they will send you an email with the instructions. You could even contact them before you buy.

try to odin back to stock
1. Start Odin
2. Plug USB cable into pc
3. Power off the Phone.
3. Pull the Battery.
5. Plug USB cable into Phone.
6. Press and Hold: Volume UP + Volume DOWN + Power, all at the same time.
7. Re-insert the battery.
8. The phone will power now, when the screen starts a cycle of going to a BLACK screen, release ONLY the POWER button.
9. When you see the download icon release the volume buttons,
10. Odin back to stock by putting the PIT file into the appropriate area and the .tar in the PDA area.
Or try that same method without holding the power button, just the volume rocker (up and down) when plugging into usb that works for some ppl
If you get NOTHING on your screen it is hard bricked. If there's anything at all, you're soft bricked.

Hey people's
my girlfriend has got a samsung galaxy y s5363 anrdoid phone, and all of a sudden one day while in her bag, the screen went black.
so i presumed something was wrong with the screen, so i ordered a replacement lcd screen and installed that only to find the phone still had the same problem (black screen, everything else works)
whilst looking online to try to find a solution, i installed kies and it tells me that i need to upgrade the firmware, so im thinking ok maybe thats why it went black, so i tried to update through kies and it fails at the end.
so with my continued looking around, ive downloaded the firmware i need and i decided to flash it myself with odin, but for the life of me i cannot get the phone into download mode so i can use odin, ive even tried "adb reboot download" and the phone just reboots like normal (i can still hear everything)(but cant see anything due to a black screen)
ive also tried all the different button combinations to get it into download mode but without joy
im now wondering if i can flash the firmware through adb commands?
or if there is a better way to get the phone to boot into download mode? (with a black screen) (cant see what im doing, just hoping)
To force download mode
remove everything from phone (battery sim card sd card)
Connect phone to pc
open odin
on phone hold volume down home button & power button at same time
Whilst holding these buttons reinsert the battery
if there's no other problem with phone it will enter download mode

Take it to service centre then if you can't see screen & it's not being detected - worst place for a phone is a woman's bag - it can get crushed & water damaged easy
Nothing else to suggest if you can't see anything

i purchased a download mode jig from amazon, just waiting for it to come in the post, will see if that does the trick
So I've searched around and couldn't find anything similar to my problem. Here it is:
About a month after a fresh install of 9-30-14 Gummy ROM Nightly, my power/lock button stopped working. I don't believe that the button contacts are physically broken because I can still reset the device by holding the power/lock and volume down buttons for about 6 seconds and it resets. No water damage or anything like that either. I literally woke up thinking my phone was just dead when i tried to unlock it. I've tried going into CWM recovery and the button does not work there either so using recovery to re-flash the ROM is out of the question since all of recovery is pretty much useless since I cannot select anything. In the meantime I've changed the settings to have the volume buttons wake the device and use the double status bar tap to sleep/lock the device (thanks to the Gummy team for adding those features lol). I'm debating fastboot adb pushing a new or different recovery to see if it fixes my issue. The only reason I'm hesitant is because if I re-flash the recovery and it still is useless, I run the risk of having to re-flash the ROM (potentially becoming corrupt after Recovery Flash) which I wont be able to do if the button still doesn't work. I've also tried a factory reset within the ROM with no luck.
Any Ideas on how to get that button functional again? My upgrade is in January so I may just wait it out...
Thanks!

I'm giving it a shot as we speak. Brightness is set to full with no screen sleep, navigation on, streaming pandora. Hopefully I can kill the battery pretty pretty quickly. I'll let it remain dead for two hours before charging it.
I don't understand... why would your ROM become corrupt if you flash a different recovery?
Flash TWRP then dirty flash your ROM & Gapps and see if that fixes the problem.

You're absolutely right, changing the recovery doesn't tamper with the ROM, but with murphy's law being alive and well and with my luck... I'm more curious to see what others come up with.
I'm not too convinced flashing the recovery would fix the solution - although I'll be trying it next after the dead battery technique. Thanks for your input!
I may be out of luck guys and gals.
I drained the battery using one of the apps in the play store and let the phone sit for a couple hours. I then let it charge for a couple minutes to give it enough juice to startup etc. Button still didnt work.
I then kept charging and did a couple hard resets, because why not. Still no luck.
the charge got up to about 25% so I downloaded the TWRP recovery in the link ATTACK provided. Then tried to get into fastboot from the bootloader - just gave me a black screen with no responsiveness. So it looks like fasboot no longer works on my phone... Did another hard reset and downloaded the RAZR M Recovery Flasher V6 tool - that worked but then the phone did a boot loop failing to launch the recovery and loaded the Rom (I tried it a couple times with different recoveries as well renaming them to make the utility run properly). Tried it 3 times with the same result. Luckily i saved the CWM recovery file v6.0.4.9 since that was the only recovery that worked for me in the past.
Back to square one... Any thoughts on the fastboot issue, or why only the one recovery works?
Thanks,

...my power/lock button stopped working. I don't believe that the button contacts are physically broken because I can still reset the device by holding the power/lock and volume down buttons for about 6 seconds and it resets.

This doesn't say anything specific about your power button physical health, only that your volume buttons are OK.
When the power button stops working (a hardware problem), quite common situation is that it actually stays in permanently pushed state.
What if you hold just the volume down button for several seconds? Does the device resets itself (even if you don't hold the power button)?
You can check the power button events by running
Code:
getevent -l /dev/input/event0
in adb shell
you should see something like:
Code:
[email protected]_u:/ $ getevent -l /dev/input/event0
getevent -l /dev/input/event0
EV_KEY KEY_POWER DOWN
EV_SYN SYN_REPORT 00000000
EV_KEY KEY_POWER UP
EV_SYN SYN_REPORT 00000000
EV_KEY KEY_POWER DOWN
EV_SYN SYN_REPORT 00000000
EV_KEY KEY_POWER UP
EV_SYN SYN_REPORT 00000000
EV_KEY KEY_POWER DOWN
EV_SYN SYN_REPORT 00000000
EV_KEY KEY_POWER UP
EV_SYN SYN_REPORT 00000000
when you repeatedly press and release the power button.
To check the volume buttons, you can use:
Code:
getevent -l /dev/input/event5
/dev/input/event0 is "pmic8xxx_pwrkey" (power key is wired here)
/dev/input/event5 is "gpio-keys" (volume keys are wired here)
You can also check all input devices by running:
Code:
getevent -l
Flashing different recovery as e.g. Philz would make sense as you don't need the power button at all to use it as you select by touch in it.
Philz is still CWM based, so there's a good chance it will work for you (just make sure to use kkbl one).
EDIT: On Razr M, the /dev/input/eventX numbering may be different, check which device is "pmic8xxx_pwrkey" by
Code:
getevent -lp
My power button issue was little bit different. When i was on trip (far from PC) power button stop working. I was able to shutdown phone with power button + volume button. About one day later, phone "self pushing" power/sleep button randomly(including self boot up after self or manual shutdown). Battery was empty very quickly. I let phone for total discharge. I connect charger to razr m tomorrow. Power button issue has been gone.

I'd say it was caused by humidity affecting your power button, fixed by drying up later...

I feel pretty dumb now. Kabaldan, you hit it on the head. I'm not sure why I ruled out hardware. I held down just the vol - and the phone reset. The button is stuck in. I have no idea why I didn't give that a shot. Sorry all for my erroneous assumptions.
I'd rather look dumb and find the problem then go through a run-around and not learn anything.
Thanks all for the help. I'll post back with pointers once I can get my hands on a torx 5 bit.
Best,

FYI, trying to do anything to your phone with less than a full battery might give you a hard brick. Fastboot probably won't even work correctly at 25%.

It is possible. I will be more careful later!
I thought I'd go ahead and follow up with my solution. Fixed the button around the 29th of November and the power/lock button has been performing as it should.
I YouTubed a video on how to disassemble the razr m: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=34v1UmdvFP8
The screws use a torx 5 bit that can be bought at a hardware store - At the time I only had much bigger automotive torx bits so I had to buy one.
Once the screen half of the phone is taken off carefully (be gentle with the ribbon cable and connector), you'll be able to get to the pushbutton which functions as the lock/power button.
I used a Qtip and rubbing alcohol and applied a drop of alcohol to the button. When the button was covered and still very saturated with alcohol, I then pressed the button with the alcohol soaked Qtip about 20 times. That allowed the alcohol to get worked into the button and clean the contacts. I let it try for about 5 minutes and reassembled. Problem solved. hopefully this helps others. :good:
