Hello,
I've a rooted S5 and I'like to use the OTA feature to update it.
When I try it, I receive a message saying that my phone has been modified in an unauthorized way...
How can I update via OTA, even if I lose my root access?
(after update I can always re root using odin
Thanks

if you have an aftermarket recovery, you wont get OTA updates. Why do you want the OTA anyways?
Hi youdoofus ,
Thanks for your reply.
I just tink that OTA updates are the most recent that my service provider has.
So, I d'like to update to that version...
But if you can explain to me why I it should not be done, I apreciate it.
Thanks

Hey, I have a LG D855, and I'm rooted on A6NL D855 V10G. My phone suggested to OTA update to V10I. Now I want to know if it's safe to do so. And if that's the case, what would happen to my root? I'd actually be glad to be rid of my root since I think it's lagging my device. So, what exactly would happen if I updated? Anybody with experience?
Would think although showing an ota when you download it it won't install as it will detect your root. In order to update you will have to return to unrooted state. A search will show a couple of threads instructing how to.
From what I understand, as long as you haven't made any changes within the system folder or installed a custom recovery, the OTA should install just fine. Worst case is if anything has been changed, it will tell you and it won't install. But yes, you will lose root once it is installed.
root and ota should be ok.
but be very careful if your g3 is bumped!! if you had installed bump! on your device, an ota update fails and the reboot always ended in the recovery. i tried almost erverything - no way out. i had no chance to reboot into the system!!
only flashing back to stock had fixed the problem (incl. loosing all personal data).

When u are rooted, it will download the new update (ota), but it will give a error when it installs. You have to update via pc.
Sent from my LG-D855 using XDA Free mobile app
Just had this happen to me on LG G3 for AT&T
Was rooted, got prompted to install the update, I kept declining until it stopped asking.
Then my phone died, after plugging it in and restarting my phone, it instantly jumped into the update window with no other options.
It updated automatically, and it didn't stop or error because of my root. I'm on 4.2.2 now, most up-to-date version on AT&T.
To make it clear: I'm rooted with TowelRoot, NOT with Bump!
I couldn't believe that I received on OTA update today.
will I loose root when I update? will the update work at all? will I crash my phone with this?
if I update, is there anything I could do before to ensure that the update goes well. can I still root afterwards with Knox 0x0?
thanks
How it's possible? I thought a rooted device can't updated via OTA.

It won't install, if you are rooted.

You may receive an update notification and you can even download it, but you cannot install it once you have rooted.
It will fail at the installation in the recovery mode.
You need to download the stock firmware and flash via Odin.
I happened to see a security policy update yesterday on my notifications. The update obviously won't go on a rooted phone the normal way so I'm looking for help on getting this update installed w/o losing root, or is it possible?? I've heard of Chainfire's app, "FlashFire" but when reading how to use it I have to have the download and when I tried to get the security policy update download I kept getting a prompt that said it had failed. Even when I tried unchecking the Automatic updates and going to Manual it failed. So what am I to do about this? Is it all about "Un Rooting" to official and installing the OTA ? or is there another way?? I am Canadian running 6.0.1 MM, G900W8VLU1DPD3, MMB29M. I hope someone can help. My provider is Telus. It wouldn't hurt to link me to a proper tutorial for un-rooting if that has to be. I'm using TWRP recovery. Thanks!!!
So I've been using 6.0.1 since I got this phone last year. I rooted it pretty much immediately, but then Samsung pushed out one of their security patches, which basically "bricked" the software. Whenever I try to update the phone, I get a fine:
The operating system on your device has been modified in an unauthorized way. Try downloading software updates using Smart Switch on your computer or visit a customer service center

Basically I rooted my phone, so OTA updates aren't available.
Apparently the new Nougat update is now live in Denmark, so I really want to update my phone, but I don't want to lose my apps, documents, images, and so on. I basically want to do an update, just like I never rooted my phone. I don't care about keeping my root.
How do I go on about this? I just want to "remove my root" and do an OTA update to get Nougat the most legit way possible.
Thanks!
EDIT: I should probably also say, that when I open SuperSU, I get a:
There is no SU binary installed, and SuperSU cannot install it. This is a problem

Since that security update from Samsung last summer, my root magically disappeared, but it's still there apparently.
I rooted my device with Android 10 and I'm unable to update the software. It keeps saying unable to update. visit samsung centre. How do i fix this?
afaik once you rooted your device, you can't use ota to update your phone. you have to do it manually.

Any idea on how to manually update cause i never found any tutorial on youtube
For example using Odin.
you need the correct firmware for the phone.
For example:
https://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/
I tried it yesterday, but it did ended up in bootloop. Don't know if i did something wrong or if it is just not working.
Was it possible for you to download the OTA update? For me it worked. But i'm a bit scared to install it and end up again in bootloop :/
