I couldn't believe that I received on OTA update today.
will I loose root when I update? will the update work at all? will I crash my phone with this?
if I update, is there anything I could do before to ensure that the update goes well. can I still root afterwards with Knox 0x0?
thanks
How it's possible? I thought a rooted device can't updated via OTA.

It won't install, if you are rooted.

You may receive an update notification and you can even download it, but you cannot install it once you have rooted.
It will fail at the installation in the recovery mode.
You need to download the stock firmware and flash via Odin.

As far as I understood, once you have triggered knox 0x1 or the counter for flashing, the OTAs won't be available any more.
I have the same thing. Checking for OTA updates works though, if you use something like wanam which can be setup to fool the phone into thinking that it's ok. I was able to download an update with SuperUser turned off (and reboot afterwards), but couldn't install.
So actually, I just check every now and then on the forums if there's an update and then just wait for a regular download via PC and flash with ODIN. Works quite well, and by the time downloads become available via PC, you'll also already know if there are glitches with newer updates, too. Takes about a day or two compared to the OTA.

Sammobile.com/firmwares usually has the latest firmwares. If you prefer pre-rooted firmwares just search for it right here in the forum. Before you download and install any firmware though, check that you download the right one. The latest EU fw is N9005XXUDMUJ7. But you also have to check your CSC. What happens when this is wrong, I don't know. But you may get boot loops. Just use the forums search and read through CSC, ODIN and the latest fw name. You'll find all that you need. And with the latest CF-Autoroot, rooting your phone is just a mouse click away.
Updates are available via KIES on your PC if you have rooted your phone (you will lose root and have to re-reoot though), just cannot get OTA. - I updated my rooted MJ6 to MJ7 via KIES with no issues. (KNOX 0x1) - KIES will say something like " software update might not work because of modified phone" but mine worked fine. - or alternatively try sammobile.com and manually flash the firmware yourself.
As for your KNOX, no way back currently from 0x1..

I tried Kies initially, too. But Kies just told me that I would have an unsupported phone, so I went ODIN.
If I am rooted with vroot, knox not tripped will unrooting in any way trip it?
Hey, I have a LG D855, and I'm rooted on A6NL D855 V10G. My phone suggested to OTA update to V10I. Now I want to know if it's safe to do so. And if that's the case, what would happen to my root? I'd actually be glad to be rid of my root since I think it's lagging my device. So, what exactly would happen if I updated? Anybody with experience?
Would think although showing an ota when you download it it won't install as it will detect your root. In order to update you will have to return to unrooted state. A search will show a couple of threads instructing how to.
From what I understand, as long as you haven't made any changes within the system folder or installed a custom recovery, the OTA should install just fine. Worst case is if anything has been changed, it will tell you and it won't install. But yes, you will lose root once it is installed.
root and ota should be ok.
but be very careful if your g3 is bumped!! if you had installed bump! on your device, an ota update fails and the reboot always ended in the recovery. i tried almost erverything - no way out. i had no chance to reboot into the system!!
only flashing back to stock had fixed the problem (incl. loosing all personal data).

When u are rooted, it will download the new update (ota), but it will give a error when it installs. You have to update via pc.
Sent from my LG-D855 using XDA Free mobile app
Just had this happen to me on LG G3 for AT&T
Was rooted, got prompted to install the update, I kept declining until it stopped asking.
Then my phone died, after plugging it in and restarting my phone, it instantly jumped into the update window with no other options.
It updated automatically, and it didn't stop or error because of my root. I'm on 4.2.2 now, most up-to-date version on AT&T.
To make it clear: I'm rooted with TowelRoot, NOT with Bump!
Hello,
I've a rooted S5 and I'like to use the OTA feature to update it.
When I try it, I receive a message saying that my phone has been modified in an unauthorized way...
How can I update via OTA, even if I lose my root access?
(after update I can always re root using odin
Thanks

if you have an aftermarket recovery, you wont get OTA updates. Why do you want the OTA anyways?
Hi youdoofus ,
Thanks for your reply.
I just tink that OTA updates are the most recent that my service provider has.
So, I d'like to update to that version...
But if you can explain to me why I it should not be done, I apreciate it.
Thanks
Shall I ignore it or install it? Will the phone lose root with the small patch?
Wrong forum !
If you talk about update like fingerprint update... the answer is no, you can update.
BTW : root break the OTA update, so you wont receive update from samsung anymore
Confirmed. You are right.

Yes, it does break the OTA update but only if the Phone Status appears as Unofficial/Custom under Settings > About Device > Status. Rooting sets your Knox counter to 1 and changes the Phone Status to Unofficial/Custom. Correct me if I'm wrong but if you flash the custom firmware of the device using Odin, you can get the Phone Status to Official again but the Knox will not get reset. That way, you can get the OTA update but still not access the secured apps like Samsung Pay or so on.

I rooted my device with Android 10 and I'm unable to update the software. It keeps saying unable to update. visit samsung centre. How do i fix this?
afaik once you rooted your device, you can't use ota to update your phone. you have to do it manually.

Any idea on how to manually update cause i never found any tutorial on youtube
For example using Odin.
you need the correct firmware for the phone.
For example:
https://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/
I tried it yesterday, but it did ended up in bootloop. Don't know if i did something wrong or if it is just not working.
Was it possible for you to download the OTA update? For me it worked. But i'm a bit scared to install it and end up again in bootloop :/
