EDIT: The answers to this post convinced me to cancel this offer and just work on it myself, so forget the donation offer.
I would love to see someone who knows what they are doing make a truly bare bones Rom from one of the 2.2.2 releases. I don't want any tweaking, I just want it stripped bare of anything that isn't absolutely necessary. The app drawer would ideally have nothing but:
Camera
Contacts
Market (the older version that works cleanly)
Phone
Settings
If it isn't too much trouble, root it and include
Superuser
Busybox
And anything that absolutely has to be installed to make all the rest work, but nothing else.
It should be stable at a screen density of 200, which I need to use maps without my glasses. Yes, I will install Maps at some point, I just don't want it pre-installed.
We'll download the versions of everything else as we need them and choose the apps we want.
I bought the phone on a $50 deal. I'll happily donate that much to the person who makes a stable, stripped Rom. If the thing runs for three days with no bizarre behavior, I'll call it stable, because at this point I'm lucky to get a day. If that sounds cheap, this isn't really developing, it's stripping a stock Rom down to the bare essentials, which should be a snap for some of you.
I know I could buy one of the utilities and remove apps I don't want, but I just don't think it is the same as starting out clean - besides, that would require installing another piece of software, wouldn't it? Kind of defeating the whole purpose, wouldn't you say?

Honestly:
1: install a rom, either custom, or stock
1a: if stock, root the rom
2:install root explorer
3:rip all the APK's you don't want out of /system/app/*
*as for running stable at a DPI of 200 or greater, if the actual phone is used, it simply won't be stable. If calls aren't made too often, you might consider it stable *enough* to use. You might wait for good builds of Gingerbread to come out, they don't seem to have stability issues at higher DPI's, but aren't as stable in general.
sorry to burst your bubble, topics like this shouldn't be in here.
The phone is just not going to be stable at 200? That bites.
As for the rest, I'm not sure what can be safely "ripped out" so I'm quite willing to pay someone else to do it.
Sorry if this is the wrong location. I'll report it to the mods to be moved.
Eh, im running at 200dpi right now live, if the phone is used, normally you can complete calls, but I've had it FC before accepting a call, which sucks, after the phone.apk fc'd the other day, it did the usual RIL reboot, and said no sim momentarily, after it showed signal, it didn't receive messages till a full reboot. As for what APK's can be removed, anything that you KNOW what it goes to ie. Acuweather / amazon / quickoffice, etc. Can be removed or the extension can be renamed.
Sent from my Dell Streak using XDA App
Been running at 240 dpi for a couple weeks now and it's more stable then 200, just as important is that noone designs their apps around 200 but everyone does for 240.
If you want a highly specific customization on a stock rom you're better off just doing it yourself. Just remove apps from /system/app and reboot and it'll be gone.
You should ONLY remove apps that appear in the app drawer though, there are many other apks that arnt visible and they're required for system stability.
If you start removing apks that arnt visible on the app drawer you'll prob end up with a brick or at least breaking many system functions.
Here's a quick list of the apps I yanked from a 351 ROM. Please note that the Stage UI is in this list. BEFORE removing the Stage UI, install a launcher app, like LauncherPro, ADW, or GoLauncher.

I kept the following: Amazon Kindle, Arcade by Kongregate, Facebook, TuneIn Radio, Twitter, and YouTube. Of those, I could have realistically deleted Facebook and Twitter. Facebook because I access Facebook through Opera Mobile, and Twitter because I don't use it at all.
rule of thumb: if it's listed on the android market, it's safe to remove
Just to point out, Manii's advice is the sensible way to go. I'm not a big fan of sensible.
I absolutely loathe the Stage UI, which is why I ripped everything Stage UI related out along with the apps included in the ROM.
Launcher's a launcher, as long as you have at least 1 it doesnt really matter which as long as it works
All right, I'm convinced. I just loaded a fresh install of 354 and started renaming apk files. So far so good.
So to make it official, I rescind my foolish offer.

What dialer do you use with 240? The stock dialer is readable and functional but looks strange at 240.
Still the stock one
If i ever get around to it i might try getting the stock nexus one 2.2.2 one on it. But it's rather low priority right now
I'm using GingerDx.v022 and all going smooth n nice...

About the apk list
luckily, you're able to manage an app list to install and/or uninstall with sd card storage optimizer. this app is cool, it lets you maintain a backup of all your aps and choose install or uninstall them. It's perfect when you're changing of rom. Its disadvantage is that you have to go one by one. This is annoying but be pacient. download it from android market

to save battery just avoid too many widgets, set automatic or low contrast, turn off wifi and bt when unecessary, and obviously kill the running apps (I usually set the back button to do this, more practical). As simple as that, better than and sofisticated app.
Got this phone and I'm pretty satisfied but of course battery OVERdraining issue is something i would like to avoid..
I have one question for all for you - is there an app which would turn on and off Wifi/Mobile data every hour...or every 30 minutes keeping them on for 2 minutes for example - which is, in my case, enough for syncing.
Additional feature like putting it into sleep mode/turning off that option of scheduled syncing during the night is more than welcomed.
I have previously found some schedulers but you need to schedule each event separately which is non sense in my opinion...One event for ON, one for OFF for each 30 minutes is too much..

If u want something like scheduling settings and stuff ... then u Shud try this
Tasker
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.dinglisch.android.taskerm
Thanks man....i have tried to use tasker but i cannot set anything...i dont know if a problem is in my understanding of the tool but it is too complicated...
Watch a video in YouTube on how to use Tasker ! U will understand
I guess I should have read more. I knew there were issues with 2.0 but this is monumental change. I can re-size windows but they still take up 2/3 of the screen. Google's split screen in Android N is better than this.
Am I missing something here?
Is Jide giving up on Ultratablet and just focusing on desktop OS?
what apps are u using?
---------- Post added at 04:09 PM ---------- Previous post was at 03:22 PM ----------
Are u talking about when you click the window into the side? Hmmm do you have the Taskbar on auto hide? They must of forgot to add that into the code when snapping the window.
Your Jide Ambassador is here!!!
