I had a similar issue. Make sure you set the usb mode to PC Mode (use the built in notification bar utility when you plug in the phone). I couldn't get an adb connection in mass storage mode.
Goddamn I love swype!

says device not found like that , in charge mode i get permission denied this sux
I managed to get my Froyo on and still keep root.
However, when in debug mode, my computer will not recognize/install driver for the X. I've uninstalled and re-installed the drivers a couple of times, and even tried to manually force it to see the Moto Composite ADB interface.
If I turn off debug, the drivers load just fine (but of course no ADB that way).
I'm on Win7 x64.
Any suggestions?

Hello,
If you put your phone into mass storage mode without development mode you will get a cdrom with motoconnect setup. Run that and fully install and then unplug out into dev and change to pc mode. Adb is all yours.

I honestly didn't expect this to work, but since I didn't have any better ideas, I might as well try it. Man was I wrong.
The reason I did not think this would work is that I had downloaded the Moto Drivers (just the drivers, not the full MotoConnect software) from the Moto website. I did not expect there to be any difference.
Evidently the software on the phone does have more drivers than the downloadable package from Moto.
Thanks for the help.
I've tried doing this...turning off Dev mode, and turning on USB Mass Storage mode, but still no motoconnect setup screen comes up. Any other way to get those drivers installed?

Like Zaphod, I very much appreciate the help and did not expect this to work lol. Thanks much.
Yesterday at work I couldn't get into adb either because the devices drivers no longer loaded. I had to edit the driver inf file. It seems like the usb diver id changed.I'm on my phoebe right now and works rcd wasn't working anyway. You can get the new id if you open up device manager sand open the properties for the phone.the last tab has device details and the first or second has the new id. Just add that in the inf. Should look like the other entries. Just try adding rfd drivers with that new inf.
media sync mode gets you adb.
might say driver not installed when you click on it but adb will startup and work properly.
least on mine it does. win7 64bit

change from pc mode to media sync mode in the notification window
If turning on and off USB Debug mode doesn't work, then do this, it will almost certainly work:

Exactly as this is the fastest and simplest way to fix it. I freaked about about a week ago when my X would not work threw ADB anymore and that is the trick that took care of it. And it is proven to work it has been posted hundreds of times on many other site/forums.
I new about DroidExplorer, but it`s not a solution for me. First of all it don`t works on my Win7. And the main thing, is that i use my phone as storage, to transfer files between different computers. It`s not usefull, I can`t install DroidExplorer on all of them...
So, folks, tell me pleace, how do you solve this problem (maybe some mount widget or some other trick)?
Thanks!!!
Find HTC Sync from the official HTC Site (just google it).
It worked for me!
EDIT: Also i heard about "MyPhoneExplorer" but I did not try it yet.

HTC Sync, MyPhoneExplorer - it`s the same story, as with DroidExplorer. Is there some solution without installing any soft on PC? As it works in WinMo.

Before I installed HTC Sync, i think that - When i connected my phone to PC, i found somewhere the option to show as a Hard Disk (or removable disk w/e)
I selected that and worked fine! (i did not transered anything but i am 100% that happened)
DroidExplorer, MyPhoneExplorer and QtADB runs fine on Win7.
I also use Wifi to transfer files.
Does anybody tried "Multi Mount SD-Card" or "Dual Mount SD"? I found some advices about this apps on HD2 Android forum... Maybe it will work for us?
How do I use the Phone's Storage Card as a Disk Drive?
Connect the phone to the computer using the USB cable. Open the Notifications panel. In the Notifications panel, touch “Select to change USB Connection Type” and change it to Disk Drive.

Oh great, so simple!!! Dude, i made it! For several times, with every releace, and it don`t works! And it seems, I am not the one...
Be careful, this way works sometimes but usually the files you have copied to SD won't show in Android when you mount back your card, and will be converted to temporary LOST.DIR files. So the best way to copy files is from WM or transfer them with Wifi
LOL, mine is working correctly also DroidExplorer and MyPhoneExplorer, I think the problem can be with OS and Phone drivers Compatibility on your komputer ?
EDIT:
DroidExplorer is sometimes unstable!
MyPhoneExplorer - always worked well

I don`t think that the only problem is in my PC, because the issue still present. I`ve read several threads about Android on HD2. And many people says that data transfer don`t works on SD-card port, because android runs from SD. And in NAND version everything is ok...

LOL!!! So we need to reboot everytime? Don`t you think it takes a lot of time? Thanks for your posts, but it`s not a solution. I`m Waiting for fix from devs.
P.S. Anybody try widgets, about I wrote before? (I have no oportunity to run android now, so I am asking you, guys, to try)

i use virtual data cable it works great!!!
Multi mount SD working perfect so far
Thanks cbolumar!!
YES! Multi Mount SD-Card is working! I think this info must be in FAQ!
P.S. Some devs of HD2 port, include this programm inside of their releace, i think its usefull.
I am glad that you can finally copy files on your phone
I can't get adb to work with my iconia to save my life... I've tried every driver out there to try to get the device recognized but I can't even get it connected to my computer. I have the mini usb cable and all, and I can copy/paste files into the tablet memory, but whenever I start adb it won't recognize it. How did you guys get yours set up? And I've connected my incredible via adb so I know my sdk kit is legit. Just let me know, thanks-
Oh, and: Iconia is rooted. Also, I've tried to start the device manager (i'm on win7 btw), locate the missing device driver, update driver, and navigate to where I got the acer driver from their website, but to no avail. Could it be my rom? I have a hc 3.1 on there atm. Well, that's about it haha
The ultimate goal is to install native ubuntu on the a500, but I need access to adb first.

Hmm ... did you install the USB drivers from Acer's support site?
http://support.acer.com/product/default.aspx?modelId=3851
Another option with ADB is to do so via IP. Search the Market for 'adb' and there should be a few apps that will allow you to use ADB over TCP/IP. From your computer, with ADB installed, you'd connect with something like:
adb connect <Tablet's IP address>:<port>
I seem to think port 5555 is the default.
If, after trying this method, you still cannot access/see your tablet (assuming you started ADB services), then you may want to check your SDK.
Best of luck.

Its in german but fear not. XD
First download both files from Nr 1 and 3 (highlighted in blue).
Install Nr 1 ADB drivers and Palace the folder from Nr 3 somewhere like your desktop.
Conect your phone (while in recovery) with your pc.
On your PC open the Commando Programm and navigate to the folder where the ADB.exe is in.
Then just copy and paste the Command lines.
Hope it helps

You use that adb thing right`? but everytime i use this command dd if=/dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/fota of=/sdcard/fota-backup.img
it says "dd" is not recognized as an internal or external command

No, i did not...did you install the adb universal driver properly? While you are in custom recovery, your PC should make a sound, when you connect the phone to it and thus ensuring that the Pc recognizes the Phone.
