I had a similar issue. Make sure you set the usb mode to PC Mode (use the built in notification bar utility when you plug in the phone). I couldn't get an adb connection in mass storage mode.
Goddamn I love swype!

After Froyo - Can't get back into ADB

I managed to get my Froyo on and still keep root.
However, when in debug mode, my computer will not recognize/install driver for the X. I've uninstalled and re-installed the drivers a couple of times, and even tried to manually force it to see the Moto Composite ADB interface.
If I turn off debug, the drivers load just fine (but of course no ADB that way).
I'm on Win7 x64.
Any suggestions?

Hello,
If you put your phone into mass storage mode without development mode you will get a cdrom with motoconnect setup. Run that and fully install and then unplug out into dev and change to pc mode. Adb is all yours.

I honestly didn't expect this to work, but since I didn't have any better ideas, I might as well try it. Man was I wrong.
The reason I did not think this would work is that I had downloaded the Moto Drivers (just the drivers, not the full MotoConnect software) from the Moto website. I did not expect there to be any difference.
Evidently the software on the phone does have more drivers than the downloadable package from Moto.
Thanks for the help.
I've tried doing this...turning off Dev mode, and turning on USB Mass Storage mode, but still no motoconnect setup screen comes up. Any other way to get those drivers installed?

Like Zaphod, I very much appreciate the help and did not expect this to work lol. Thanks much.
Yesterday at work I couldn't get into adb either because the devices drivers no longer loaded. I had to edit the driver inf file. It seems like the usb diver id changed.I'm on my phoebe right now and works rcd wasn't working anyway. You can get the new id if you open up device manager sand open the properties for the phone.the last tab has device details and the first or second has the new id. Just add that in the inf. Should look like the other entries. Just try adding rfd drivers with that new inf.
media sync mode gets you adb.
might say driver not installed when you click on it but adb will startup and work properly.
least on mine it does. win7 64bit

change from pc mode to media sync mode in the notification window
If turning on and off USB Debug mode doesn't work, then do this, it will almost certainly work:

Exactly as this is the fastest and simplest way to fix it. I freaked about about a week ago when my X would not work threw ADB anymore and that is the trick that took care of it. And it is proven to work it has been posted hundreds of times on many other site/forums.

[Fixed] USB mounting problem since installing Kies

My Vibrant doesn't connect as a data storage device around the time I started using Kies. My phone is 100% stock beyond some attempts to fix the GPS (which didn't work and returned to stock). I installed Kies to do USB tethering and changed the setting on the phone to ask in which mode I want to connect.
Last week I was having trouble with connecting in Kies mode and tethering. I then noticed that I could only connect to the PC when I selected the phone option for Kies and not as a media player or storage device. I proceeded to uninstall Kies from my PC to see if that fixed the drivers. No go. I tried another PC which has never had Kies on it and also no go.
Here are the symptoms:
1) Plug USB cable to Phone
2) Menu on phone shows: Select Kies, Media Player or Storage
3) Select Storage
4) USB symbol appears and goes through connecting to connected state
Normally at this point the Win7 PC will pop-up with an auto start window asking if you want to open the storage device or transfer photos. In my case nothing appears. I also check My Computer and the phone is not mounted it doesn't appear later. I suspect a phone issue. Is there a way to fix this without doing a factory reset? Reboot doesn't change anything.
Anyone know a fix for this problem?
Make sure to use these drivers

Stupid question, but are you pressing "mount" on your phone when your in USB storage mode?
note to self: read OP *before* replying
If it's still set on Ask on Selection try changing it to Mass Storage. I recall reading something that said Ask on Selection doesn't work right. I just toggle it between Mass Storage and Kies manually.

[Q] Cannot root Vibrant

Phone: Samsung Vibrant
PC: Windows 7 64-bit
Latest drivers from xda installed for phone.
I've tried for over 2 hours now and rooting does not work for me.
It will not push the update.zip to my phone and my phone does not restart.
I have followed the instructions in the Rooting forum to a T.
I've turned on USB Debugging. I plug my USB cable in. My drives show up in Windows Explorer. I then run the T-Mobile Vibrant One-Click Root application in admin mode.
I click on One-Click Root and the shell runs. It says my phone should be rebooting but nothing happens on my phone. Nothing gets copied and the phone does not reboot.
Any ideas?
EDIT: I looked in the rooting thread more and people have been posting about ADB. I've checked this in my Device Manager and I have "ADB Interface" listed there with no ! on it. It says it's working properly.
Are you mounting the USB??? To get adb or other apps to work you can not have the USB connecte mounted. You said you can see it in windows explorer so I am assuming that you mounted the USB.
The mounting is happening automatically. I plug in my USB and it mounts and turned on USB Debugging. Not sure why it's doing it automatically as it never has in the past.
I'm not sure what you mean by "you can not have the USB connected"
If I can't have the USB connected then how do I do this?

You cannot have the drives mounted , if they show up in windows , adb will not work ..
Did you happen to install the winamp beta for android? , it mounts the drives.

Yes... I did.
So I uninstalled Winamp Beta. Removed the USB. Plugged it back in. This time the drives did not mount.
I tried to run the One-Click again and nothing happened.
Can anyone help? I'd really like to be able to root my phone.
Why don't you just download the. Zip file, rename to update.zip, move it to the root of your internal sdcard, reboot into recovery, then reinstall packages.
I'm not sure why you're using a PC to root.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
If you search for 'root your Vibrant ' you will get step by step instructions on how to root without using a PC. That method has worked for me numerous times.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
Search For "OCLF" In The Market
Install App
Open App
Click Root Phone
Reboot Phone Into Recovery
Select Reinstall Packages
Reboot
Your Now Rooted. Now Dance
Dude,
This is what I follwed and it worked 100% for me:
1. Download update.zip file on PC
2. On your Vibrant, go to Settings > Applications > USB Settings > and select Mass Storage.
3. Connect your Vibrant to your computer, and mount as a mass storage device by pulling down the notification bar at the top of the screen.
4. Back on your computer, look for a new drive. We’re looking for the Internal Storage, not the External, so make sure you open the drive that does NOT have the Avatar movie in it.
5. Copy (drag and drop) the update.zip file to the Internal Storage.
6. Turn off the phone.
7. Hold down the volume up and down buttons while turning the Vibrant on, which will bring you to the recovery mode.
8. To navigate in Recovery, use volume up and down to move, and Power button to select. Select ‘Reinstall Packages“
9. After installed, your phone will reboot, and will have the Superuser app, as well as Busybox installed.
10. You’re Rooted!
Nikhil
Worked great until Step #7.
I tried turning the phone on holding down both the volume up and volume down buttons but no recovery console.
Disregard my previous. I got into the recovery console and I followed the instructions.
Things seem to be working. I have the Superuser app but not the Busybox one.
i need help with this as well. i just downgraded my brother's vibrant to 2.1 update1 so that i can root cuz i couldnt get it to work with 2.2. and now when i do the update.zip file it doesnt seem to work. i get a superuser app but i dont have root. idk what is going on. i have tried everything from one click root to manual rooting. whenever i go to the main recovery and hit reinstall packages the yellow bar doesnt go all the way before it says it's finished and reboots. could this be an issue? please help..

Recover with dead screen

Hey guys,I hope that all the awesome people here can help me to solve a huge Problem.
My GF had a Galaxy S5 Neo,she thought it would be a great idea to drop it directly on the screen so it broke and won't show anything anymore.
No we need to backup some important files from that device.
Gladly I was able to remove the lockscreen protection with her Samsung Account, but still not able to do more.
The device is on the latest official update, not rooted and no USB debugging enabled.
So I tried to get in recovery and use adb, witch will work every now and than, but I found out that the adb in stock recovery is limited,so now way to do anything there.
If I had enabled USB debugging,I could easily use visor to controll the device.
If I connect it via USB to my PC,it shows up,but as an empty device.
And I can't change the USB mode, because screen is completely dead.
Can I change the USB mode without the screen?
Can I enable USB debugging without the screen?
If I could change at least the USB mode, that could help out at least a little.
Long story short,I need an way to backup file from that thing.
If there is a solution for this, you guys would really help me out.

Hey, i have similar problem, i cant unlock the phone so i have empty device at computer, i was wondering if you have any news on it
You Need OTG
Assuming
- you have stock 6.0.1 and
- you have enabled Developer options,
Here is an easy way:
1. Wait for boot to complete.
2. Once you feel like you're at the Touchwiz home screen, attach a keyboard to your S5 Neo.
3. On your keyboard, press Windows + N (Quick Settings tray).
4. Press Tab twice and Enter (Settings).
5. Keep on pressing Down Arrow for 5 sec.
6. Up Arrow one time and Enter (Developer options).
*** You can now (A) enable USB debugging and/or (B) change USB configuaration to MTP ***
7(A). Down Arrow * 7 times and Enter (USB debugging).
7(B). Down Arrow * 22 and Enter (USB configuration).
8(A). Right Arrow and Enter to allow USB debugging (OK).
8(B). Press Down Arrow and Enter (MTP)
9(A). Connect your phone to your PC *** You MUST keep your keyboard connected ***
9(B). Connect your phone to your PC.
10(A). On your computer, run "cmd" and type "adb devices" to authorize. *** You will see "unauthorized" from your cmd window ****
10(B). On your computer, you will see your device connected.
11(A). On your keyboard, press Tab * 3 and Enter (OK).
12(A). On your computer, type "adb devices" again to see if USB debugging works properly.
Note that this may or may not work for you depending on your firmware/settings.

Broken /Black display - How to transfer Data to my PC (MTP Mode)

Hello everyone,
i looked up similar but havent found a solution to my problem, so i hope you can help me on this one.
My OP 5 fell down, resulting in a broken screen. It is still fully functionally but completely black and i can access the phone via fingerprint as long as its still on. I need to get in MTP Mode to be able to transfer all the Media (e.g. the last year of my kids growing up in pictures)
Dev Mode is activated, so after i plug in my USB Cable to connect it to my PC i think i emember that i can access the selection (Charging/ MTP etc.) over the dropdown menue.
I just have to find the right spot to click.
Can anyone of you maybe screenshot the scenario?
1. After the USB is connected and the debugging window appears
2. The screen when you can select the connection mode?
I tried to use the Program "apowermirror" as well but i cant see where i have to click on the Screen when it says " allow usb debugging" when it tries to connect via USB. So a screenshot of this could work as well.
Additional Info: the bootloader is unlocked and i have TWRP, so maybe there is also a way ?! im a total noob regarding this...
Thank you very much in advance for any help on this.
Snyder
Maybe in twrp you can with adb command, install adb on your computer and search (google) about the command "adb pull" or maybe just reboot twrp (power off and power with vol down) you can access storage. Have you some security? Pin or pattern?
hi, try the program through MyPhoneExplorer, you can via Wi fi
