Screen will not light up? - Nexus 6P Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My Nexus 6P just started having the screen not light up despite the phone being on. I can feel it vibrate, call it, the notification LED lights up, but no matter what I do, the actual screen will not light up at all. Anyone know what causes this? Thanks for any ideas.

problem with the proximity sensor? ensure that your screen protector is not blocking it. try flashing factory stock and check. if all else fail then it should be hardware issue, request for rma.

[Q] Keyboard not lighting?

Is anyone else having the issue where the keyboard sometimes doesn't light up in a dark room as well as the front buttons?
It works every so often, but I could be in a pitch black room and it will stay off when I go to text.
Suggestions?
Oops....Found out that the plastic on the keyboard edges wasn'tremoved. Didn't even notice it. Seems to work now!
I've noticed the same thing. I'm gonna see if maybe I can find out what's causing it to happen

There is also a light sensor so the lights won't light unless it is dark. Keep that in mind as well.

(Q) is it me or does the screen act funky in the dark?

I have noticed and become rather annoyed with this issue.
If it is dark (sometimes not very dark but dim) in my room or outside when I turn my screen on to unlock it (either knock on or power button) the screen will go black as soon as I try to touch it to unlock the phone.
I think it thinks I'm using knock off? But it happens even when I have that feature turned off. I tried my best to explain this. Lol.
Basically I wake the phone touch it and it goes back to sleep.

Proximity sensor blocked will do this. I haven't experienced this myself. Lighting really shouldn't effect it that much.

Screen flicker/noise on lock screen

Screen noise/flicker upon turning screen on
Upon turning on the screen, there is a slight flicker/staticy looking noise. Toward the bottom of my lock screen. It's easily replicated, but it doesn't do it every time.
I just want to know if it seems like a defect or it could easily be fixed by an update. Motorola might not even know about it yet.
Yeah mine does it sometimes, but not all the time

I'm getting that too.
I filmed mine in slow motion when this happens on it and it appears to be an android software bug. It flashes the home screen then pulls up the latest app or vice versa. its so fast it looks like its just noise though.
you guys sure you didnt turn on the option for it to make a noise on unlock?
Are you guys or anyone else having this problem while being rooted? Because, I only started noticing this problem after I rooted
It happened to me before being rooted, if I had Moto Display on it never showed, it was only until switching to Ambient Display, or to neither Moto or Ambient Display that it started showing up.
Always running Notification
May be because of any always running notification. I too had same problem. Then I uninstalled the app that always used to have a notification running. Now the problem seems to be less frequent or not anymore.

What triggers the screen to come on

I keep noticing the screen turn on when I'm holding the phone in my hand. I'm not pressing the power button

Settings->Display->Ambient Display
I read it in another thread, but found out it applied to me as well. I had Light Flow installed and it was the culprit. If I use the power button to shut off the screen, ambient display would kick the screen back on. Same happened just randomly while I'm driving down a smooth road (no sudden bumps/shakes) and the screen would randomly turn on. I switched to Light Manager and so far the behavior has stopped.
I stopped using light flow long ago as it would usually cause issues. Let me check out ambient

Yeah ambient I don't need and disabled it

I tried to like ambient display but ended up turning it off. It got annoying when I was holding the phone and my touch woke the phone up from ambient. What exactly is supposed to trigger this thing? Light? Motion?
No lightflow here but I do have a skinomi techglass which I thought I read could screw with the light sensor.
Yeah I feel the same way about the ambient display. I have no real need for it. My screen turned on at least 5 times while I was holding the phone in a cab. Annoying

G4 Plus: After double-wrist flip to activate camera, screen goes dark.

(I posted this on the Lenovo site as well.)
Just wanted to report this happening on my xt1644 (US Retail version) G4+. I've had the device for roughly 6 months without this happening on 6.0.1.
When I double flip and occasionally when I use the icon to activate the stock camera, the display screen darkens to a point where the subject of what I'm shooting can't be seen.
I'll point the camera to a bright light source (like a light bulb or sky) and the screen brightens up. Also, if I close the camera app and restart it, it sometimes "fixes" itself.
Anyone else experiencing this? Perhaps this problem/issue has to do with the light sensor(s) on the phone? Just wondering.
Asking the wisdom of the forum and admin.
Thank you.
have you tried with different camera app ??
try and state results

If this happens with other apps, it could point directly to a problem with the ambient light sensor.
If this happens with only this app, it could still point to an issue with the sensor, or the app.
Check if this issue persists with adaptive display disabled. If so, then the problem is with the app. If not, chances are that the light sensor has issues.

I haven't seen this happen while in other apps. It just occurs once in a while when I double wrist flip the phone to activate the stock camera. It doesn't happen all the time.
I'll try to isolate other elements that I may be overlooking.
