Is anyone else having the issue where the keyboard sometimes doesn't light up in a dark room as well as the front buttons?
It works every so often, but I could be in a pitch black room and it will stay off when I go to text.
Suggestions?
Oops....Found out that the plastic on the keyboard edges wasn'tremoved. Didn't even notice it. Seems to work now!
I've noticed the same thing. I'm gonna see if maybe I can find out what's causing it to happen

There is also a light sensor so the lights won't light unless it is dark. Keep that in mind as well.

does anyone else get an issue that the G2's backlight for the physical keyboard and capacative buttons have absolutly no idea when to be on and when to be off. I can be in a fully lit room and have the backlight on for no reason at all. is there any way to fix this? it gets very annoying very quickly.
It's a problem with the light sensor, but I think it can be corrected with software. The sensor seems to reflect differences in brightness really well, but the software tends to set everything to levels appropriate for brighter conditions. This leads to full screen brightness and no key backlighting even under dim interior lighting conditions.
my screen is SUPER Bright regardless of ambient light (in automode) I rely on the manual settings.
and yes I do have the same problem ... even on my second g2.
Same here. My backlight and softkeys go on and off randomly while in bright light and checking the time while waking up briefly during the night is painful because it is always extra bright.

thanks swags. hoping for a software update soon. its really annoying. also is it normal that i get this issue even without auto brightness
Hi all,
I was wondering if there was a way to force the keyboard keys to stay lit up until you close it. It seems to be cutting out mid type.
Thanks.
It turns off when you it's bright enough in the surrounding area. You can flash cyanogenmod and set all the brightness settings.
Thanks,
I guess I was hoping to be able to control this manually without having to flash a different rom.
At this time its not possible to control it manually from stock froyo. Maybe in gingerbread?

do you have it set to automatic brightness? I noticed my keyboard turning on and off while typing and the screen dimmed and brightened with it. Turned off the auto brightness and hasn't done it since.

Turning off the auto brightness hasn't made any difference to me on my DZ. The backlight for the keyboard and capacative buttons seems to turn off and on quite often for no apparent reason (badly calibrated light sensor ?).
has anyone tried covering up the light sensor with a sticker or something? lol idk

That would certainly work, you can put your finger over it and show how it's the light sensor doing it. Probably not the best long term solution though
Has anyone noticed some kind of light leakage or something right above the home button and right under the screen. You can only see it with a black background. Also when the bottoms keys are lit. I dont know if its me and my brother, but its annoying.

I don't see the light, maybe you have some dead pixels, or maybe I didn't find the right spot.
And yes I agree with the buttons getting annoying at night, I wish I could turn the brightness down.
light above home
Yes, I have the same thing. Noticed it when I first got the phone but doesn't bother me to much.
Me too!
This happened after t mobile sent me a refurb phone. I don't like out but it isn't bothering either
Always noticed this, thought it was just me. Not really an issue though.
Hey.
My Droid pro is barely a month old and Im experiencing difficulty in getting the backlight of the physical keyboard to light up when its dark.
If i tilt it upwards, it comes on sometimes but this too is very random with no specific response to any particular type of lighting.
Its ALWAYS on in the day but never in the night
From what I've read, turning off automatic brightness setting is a solution but it has not worked for me - my phone has been on a custom brightness setting since day 1.
HELP!
do u have a screen protector installed?
No screen protector. that would solve the problem?
I just noticed this problem as well while I was trying to text in bed with the lights off. Couldn't see a damn thing
keyboard light problem
I have the same issue,i wished motorla would do a update and fix with a setting for that,in the meantime,I always hit the on off button and then it stays on for a bit
Not sure but...
I never had this problem until I downloaded am alternate keyboard. i installed swype and this problem started. Have not uninstalled to see if it fixes the problem
If your rooted then try installing keyboard backlight from the market. It works great for me.
Ive never had a problem with my backlight. Night or day.
backlight
I too have the same problem,im like the others, wished motorola would fix this and make it adjustable, i have a semi fix til they do fix for good, when u notice it is not on,reach up and just push the power button for the screen to temporarily shut off, then push power button again, use slider to open screen and then it should be lit up then, thanks
Any try the backlight app and see if that works?
which app is it? a link would be nice
if you have a screen protector, use a hole punch to cut a hole in it above the light sensors.
turn off automatic brightness.
with the backlight on, but keys off, cover the two sensors for a few seconds with your palm, that always gets my keyboard lights to come on.
On the DROID pro there is also a light sensor in the upper left corner.
I experienced the same issue that u did. I then put my finger over the light sensor and the backlight came on.
It seemed to stay on from that point forward in the dark.

1. are you rooted, and did you get the specific app mentioned.
2. did you completely miss where TWO of us have mentioned that covering the light sensor briefly usually turns the lights back on?

Thank you!!! it works great now with that app.
hey all, recently added GB to my BF's non-rooted DPro and he's having this issue as well.
Looks like the best, and only, fix may be to root and add that app from the market?
Upon covering the sensor at the top the light does come back on, but only for a second or two. Have messed with the display and brightness and power settings but nothing seems to keep the backlight on when typing.

Whenever I unlock my device the screen turns on noticeably slow, it's like it's trying to transition but it isn't smooth so it feels off.
What is strange is that this doesn't happen when my phone is tilted at a <45° angle, it just powers on almost instantly with no slow transition. Anyone have a similar issue or know of how to fix this?
Edit: I take the angle back, it seems to be ambient lighting based. Still not sure how to disable this "feature"

Yeah it is affected by ambient light sensor... just tested it myself now... but sayin so.. might also be affected by the low battery,

I'm guessing it's purpose is so it doesn't turn on too bright in dark or dimly lit rooms and allows your eyes to adjust. Which is a nice feature now that I think about it, I've been blinded by previous phones numerous times when I turned them on at night. I don't know though, it just lacks a certain smoothness that the device's other animations have.
What bothering me the most is that we can't adjust the brightness on the always on display... is too bright

In display settings you have an option called "keep screen turned off", which prevents the screen turning on accidently in dark places such as a pocket or bag.
