Hey guys so i had a rooted stock phone and i decided to go back to stock to be able to update the firmware. I returned to stock and locked bootloader but i had no recovery. when ever i tried to go to recovery either by adb or phone buttons all i get is a screen that say "no command" thats it. The phone still worked and i tried to update the phone with the kdz file and it worked perfectly but now that im trying to reroot it i cant since i have no recovery. any ideas how to fix it? is there a way to manually flash a stock recovery so i can be able to reroot? and just incase my phone is a tmobile with the newest J software. thanks

You have stock recovery. When it says no command, I believe it's volume up you have to press and hold. It's about 10 seconds and then it hits recovery.
If that don't work, press and hold volume down, but I'm pretty sure it's volume up.

Doesn't work for me. And I also can't access fastboot. Any other options? I'm trying to clear my cache because I cannot connect to any wifi networks nor turning it on/off. When I open the wifi settings the app just freezes. Lg seems to be using a seperate app for wifi management.
If you have an H918 and are on 10j, and you are trying to root, you don't need recovery. Follow the DirtySanta guide for the H918 and you will have TWRP by the time you are done.

My 2.2 OTA failed on my rooted incredible. i got the explanation mark and the little android guy on the front of the screen. i rebooted and im stuck on 2.1. any suggestions?
You either need to un-root and put everything back exactly the way it was, or you need to use a RRU to wipe the phone and put a new system image on it.
I fixed it. Found solution by manually updating update.zip via recovery.
same problem here can you tell me how to get to recovery?

Power off the phone. Start it back up by holding the power+Volume Down buttons at same time. You'll boot into HBOOT. Wait a few seconds for it to scan your card and do it's thing. Then navigate to the Recovery link by using the volume down button. Hit power to select.
I'm having reral trouble gettng my n4 into fastboot. all the buttons work, vol up, vol down and the power on all work fine but if I try and press all 3 simultaneously I just boot the device normally. I've managed to get to fast boot just once in 2 dozen tries. what is the trick? I've tried pushing all 3 at once, I've tied pressing both vol up and down, holding thm, then pressing and holding the power button too. always just vibrates, and boots normally.
just now while trying on the last attempt it booted normally but the screen had 'safe mode' in the bottom left corner. that freaked me a bit. turned it off, then on again and it went away. wtf is 'safe mode' and how did I get it?
I want to...I think...root and flash a rom the proper way, step by step using efrant's guide on here, rather than a script from the toolkit, but since I can't seem to get to fastboot I'm stuck
this is all just to get to 4.3 really....I rooted using the toolkit and OTA updates haven't been running so still on 4.2.1 and thought I should sort that out. had a bit of a 'mare l2 nights agot when I unlocked the bootloader to go about returning to stock and forgot that would wipe the device...losing lat weeks holiday photos in the process I think the tool kit and one press type 'unlock, flash this, flash that etc etc' commands lulled me into not thinking for myself so perhaps I ought to do this properly!
BTW, I'm currently with a locked bootloader, stock 4.2.1 rom, stock recovery reflashed, no su binary (cinfirmed by attempting to run SU app, and it not finding the binary). I've been waiting for the OTA update to push to the device again (I've forced checkins but to no avail) to attempt to run it, should it run properly now or have I to do something more?
You need to hold power and volume down, if that doesn't work then try adb reboot boot loader

thanks. tried holding volume down and then also power as well and again it booted normally. looks like adb commands it is then. bit of a pain to have to hook to a pc to do this....not that I'm a regular custom rom flasher/swapping between roms and nandroid backups etc but it would be handy....I learnt that with my old desire.
has anyone else had problems getting there holding the buttons?
oh and I found what safe mode is from the google nexus 4 site. a mode where the apps don't work so you can check for problems that they may be causing. how I got to it doesn't match with the descried way though...just a weird glitch I guess.
okay I'm all sorted for now. I used the toolkit and flashed the entire set of stock .img after downloading the archive from google
now on 4.3, and as far as I can see that is with stock recovery, system, radio the lot. I've left it unrooted (so no su binary, no busy box, no su app - although the phone is currently synching and downloading my apps again..I guess this will come too) so if I understand things correctly future OTAs will run.
I've left the bootloader unlocked as efrant, in his 'how to' guide says
'Do NOT re-lock your bootloader after you are finished. The is no need. 2) Having an unlocked bootloader does not affect anything related to the ROM/GoogleWallet/OTAs. Nothing at all.' and he explains that unlocking in the future to enable fastboot commands to work and hence flash roms in the future results in a wipe of data. So...I think...I'm up to date, stock, safe and future OTAs will run....i hope. I do understand though, that should the device need to back to Google I should relock the bootloader first or they will know I've been playing around (where possibly I shouldn't!)
okay....think I can go ahead and set up again. :victory:
Ooo good! and whatever I've done I can get into the bootloader fine now :victory: simply holding vol down and then pressing and holding the power button now works every time. good.
Hey guys,
So my Verizon G2 was on the stock rom with root. I wanted to install TWRP on it and flash a rom but couldn't get to that due to the fact that I couldn't get TWRP running after I tried flashing it with Flashify(I did this after having the first OTA). Another OTA came up today and I legit accidentally hit install now. I'm currently stuck at fastboot and I can't even get into download mode or anything. Hard factory reset doesn't work either, I just get :
[2950] Fastboot mode started
[2970] udc_start()
and nothing happens. I really hope I didn't brick my phone.. Please help!
Thank you!
I was given a G2 that was bricked, all it would do is sit on the LG screen forever. I followed this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2448960 and put the factory firmware on the phone. I never took any of the OTA's cause the phone wouldn't even boot up, but I would think its close to the same situation. The guide posted above worked for me

Damnit-- I am in the same boat. Vol down or up when plugging in does nothing-- just a glowing black screen after the LG logo. Device manager is only seeing it as a qhusb_bulk device even though the lg drivers are installed. None of the tools recognize it at this point. Almost ready to give up and call it bricked.
Did you make sure the phone is completely off? If you hold power and volume down buttons, it will shut off. Once its completely off you hold the volume down and continue to hold it while your plugging in the USB. I believe the drivers have to be installed as well.

Listen, to power off the device press and hold the power button, it may take up to 10-15 sec but it will power down.
Go to this thread and follow the instructions.

If you follow them exactly as stated, it will flash you to 100% out of the box stock, you WILL lose root and SD storage FYI.
I did this last night and it does work, just don't move to the next step until you are 100% sure you've completed the last.

I was able to finally get TWRP onto my phone last night, so I'm no longer stuck at fastboot. However, I'm not just stuck at recovery. Even after flashing a custom rom, I keep getting sent back to recovery. I did notice however, if I go to backup, the data partition is at 0mb, despite formatting data and cache already. I tried the dd commands in the link above with adb, and I get nothing(file doesn't exist). I'm at a loss. What can I do now?

Big ups to thecubed, but I found I needed a few more steps. When you get not enough memory message, hit arrow button back to TWRP home screen. Then reboot, shut off again, then go into download mode. Lg Flashtool may work for you, but it didnt for me as it couldnt validate cdc serial. I downloaded LG update recovery tool from LG, and i have a phone agqin. But you are now going to be updated to VS98012B, and you will not be able to root again. Hope this helped....

Thanks for the help, but do I type that into the command prompt on my computer? Do I go into the terminal command option in TWRP? Totally confused on how to do it...
I know it took me all night...im kinda noobie...
Ok bear with me...use the second option from thecubes link, when in TWRP, go into terminal command, it will open a bunch of file options...ignore those and hit select on bottom right. That will start the command which will give you two sets of 6 figure numbers beginning with 6 and an out of memory error. Again ignore....hit back arrow till back to main screen and try what i said before. Again I am kinda a noob, so if my directions are confusing be patient and i will try to help.

To enter download mode power off phone, hold up volume only then plug into pc. Once there you should be stuck at logo screen but now lg updater will recognize your device.

Dont worry I did the same
Down volume is recovery, up is download. Let me know if you get your phone back.
So I got this S4 shortly after it came out running 4.2. I flashed CM 10.2 shortly afterwards, and ran that until the first milestone of CM11 was released. I switched to that for about 2 months, but decided I wanted to return to stock this evening.
I followed Qbking77's guide on unrooting to MDC, and all seemed well until I got to the restart stage and the phone started hanging at the yellow Sprint logo until switching to a bootloop. I've since tried reflashing the image multiple times and no dice.
I have a nandroid backup from 1-18-14 that I took after installing CM11. At this point I'd take anything functional, CM or stock.
After flashing mdc in odin just turn off the phone. Boot into stock recovery and do a factory reset. Reboot. Profit.

So... I couldn't get recovery mode to work and I assumed that somehow I had erased it.
I went searching for tutorials on how to restore a stock recovery + rom and found an application that acts as an Odin All In One.
I'm not allowed to link yet, but something tells me that the author Rwilco12 is known around here because it's a pretty helpful piece of work he's done. I used the tool and suddenly I was able to boot into recovery per leaderbuilder's instructions.
The good news is: ITS ALIVE!
Thanks everyone for your help!
If you have an SD card and are stuck at the yellow sprint screen take it out and reboot the phone and it'll boot. After that first boot you shouldn't have a problem anymore

After holding down the volume up and power you can let go of power and hold the volume down. This will make sure it boots into recovery.

While the phone is on and developer options enabled and also OEM unlock enabled, connect the phone to a P.C. Make sure you have minimal adb and fastboot installed on your P.C. also and while you're in the adb folder open a command prompt window and type
adb reboot download
The phone will then boot into download mode..

but OP will have another issue to face
as when we use odin to flash back to stock, we will always HAVE to press power up + home + power key to go to stock recovery to wipe again or else will forever stuck in boot animation

I really dont think its a hardware issue. nothing happened to the phone and the buttons are springy and not stuck they just dont adjust the volume. Thats why I hope going back to 6.0.1 will fix it.

The phone will update itself automatically as long as there's a cache.img being flashed and it's usually in the firmware.. Just need to make sure odin is set to automatically reboot after flash.

Then it's unfortunately a hardware issue and if the phone is less than 1 year old Samsung would be willing to fix it free of charge so long as you didn't cause the damage..
Also trying pressing the buttons like a bit forceful and quickly that way if it is stuck under the actual button then it will maybe loosen up..
I was afraid you were gonna say that....I'm just out of warranty. Thanks
