Data Usage - Manual Set - Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Questions and Answers

On MM, I could go into Data Usage and manually set my carrier's reported data usage o I could accurately set a limit. Flashed Nougat, stats reset and I can't seem to find a place to manually enter the data I have used, according to my carrier. Anyone point me in the right direction?

Gonna bump this...so, manual data usage worked when I flashed my CSC for Telus on the S8 port roms. I went to a 7.1.2 rom, flashed the CSC and no place to manually enter data usage. Does that mean it's ROM dependent or do you think a new kernel could open up that option? Or is the CSC just not flashing correctly?

No data connection after rooting to custom rom (Darky's v5.6)

I'm new to flashing custom roms and what not. I used odin and flashed everything to the point, csc, modem, pda, pit the rom works awesome but i cannot for the life of me connect to the internet. the 3g icon or h icon wont' show up. in the status it says my network type is gprs and i'm roaming and my mobile network state is disconnected.
I'm with fido, the phone is unlocked i have never had trouble with data or anything until i flashed to a custom rom.
Anyone have the same problem or suggest how to fix?
Data Conn. Issue
Hey mate,
Have you gone into 'Settings', 'Wireless and Networks', 'Mobile Networks' and then 'APN settings' and entered your appropriate settings?
That should fix it if you define the correct access point.
Alex
hey man, yeah i did all that stuff, went in there, found my carrier, put in all the apn settings i can find and still nothing. when i put data roaming on then i get data and the edge icon comes up.
Hey dude,
That sounds strange, flashing custom (or even release) roms is never a guarantee especially with weaknesses in the way that ODIN communicates with your phone, What I would do is Re-Flash your stock rom through ODIN then use the "quick" install method from Darkyy.
I am running 5.6 like you, and I had issues doing it through odin (I kept getting random FC's), additionally, the rom; if installed from CWM will keep your apns and apps e.t.c. along with many settings and configs from the base rom you're using before the flash.
That is the best advice I can give you.
Alex
My config is a follows:
I9000 International
16gb SDHC
500HZ Hardcore Kernel
Darkyy 5.6
Whats the process for reverting back to stock 2.1 eclair rom?
Did you keep a record of your firmware version before reflashing?
If not, you may have to ask someone on here what your base firmware was.
Are you familiar with using ODIN? (The software used for reflashing)
Alex
I am having same issue to...I used 5.4 from Darky and it works well...same with DocRom 4.0 works and the next 5.1/6.0 don't work.
Both Darkys and DocRom are based some JPX....which seem to be root cause..
I've have the same problem. Tried eveything but still didn't work. So went to Samsung Service Centre to have my SGS firmware refresh. I notice after the refreshed same issue of data com missing. Told them and they when into the SGS to select the telco operator setting selection. Now data com. working well. Anyone know the SGS handset setting code? I want to reload to Darky's v5.6 again.
hi folks
i have the same problem... my provider is a virtual provider in the network of our biggest provider here in austria. i was using doc's rom based on xwjpa firmeware and everything worked fine without enabled roaming options.
since doc's rom is based on the newer releases (xxjpx, xxjpy) i' only able to use data connection if i turn on roaming. it also shows me that i'm in a roaming network. i guess the cause are the xx firmwares. xw and xx are european firmwares but i do not know the differences between them. maybe someone has more information about the differences? currently i'm using xwjpa firmware because i don't want to use my phone with enabled roaming options.
hey um i'm having the same problem and thought replying here would be better than starting a new thread.
well i installed the rom without having any idea of what i was doing *stupid idea* so i didn't take note of my original firmware.
i didn't use odin to install the rom just clockwork recovery and the rom and everything installed fine except my data network. i can get signal, call, receive the only problem is i get no data transfer. any help much appreciated. if anything can someone help me step by step to reboot my phone to original?
just for future travellers
Sadly this isn't my own gem, but yeah. hold the power button down, wait for the shutdown menu, above the airplane mode there is a data network button, and it'll most likely say "de-activated" if nothing else has worked. Its ok to feel like a chump, I did after rehashing the hell out of this phone for a few days ( the wifes phone, my phone does exactly what its told. )
Anyway, yeah, this will probably be the reason for the lack of the icon "G", "3G" or "H" where it should be.
Dave.

Hi,
The first thing would be to check your CSC and modem firmware. Use Phone INFO ★Samsung★ app to get all major info about the phone. It is important to know when you are going to flash another stock firmware.
I had issues last week with data and it was caused by bad CSC/modem. Flashed everything back to stock with official firmwares from SamMobile and it fixed my issues. After that, I was able to flash my custom ROM and everything is smooth sailing since then.
Let me know if you require more help.

Thanks for help bro. I took a screen shot of my info. I'm not sure why it shows bmc when I downloaded the rwc files. And is the product code correct?, also I never seen the code for csc modem before. Is it not suppose to match baseband, pda, bootloader
Everything is good, you're almost there.
You have the right firmware but now you need to fix your CSC. The stock ROM is multi CSC so Rogers (RWC) is already installed but it chooses Bell (BMC) by default. What you can try :
- Power off your phone
- Remove SIM card and power on (your phone will start and say : no sim card)
- Power off and wait a moment
- Insert your Rogers SIM card and power on your phone in Recovery Mode (Volume Up, Home and Power on boot). If you have:
#manual mode#
--appling multi-csc...
applied the csc code : RWC
successfully applied multi-csc
That means that your CSC has been changed to Rogers. Problem should be fixed.
If not, the app you downloaded contains a CSC Changer but it will wipe your data. Make sure to have backups beforehand.
Let me know if you need anything else.

Thanks for all the help man, did the sim thing and it just loaded me into twrp and i didnt see an option so I changed it via the app. Same thing still got the 4G and bell bloat. But csc now says bmc/rwc
Ok. Try this now :
You must dial the following key sequence to bring up a regional carrier menu: *#272*[IMEI]# (that is *#272* (your IMEI number) #) - You'll find your IMEI in the Phone Info app.
When the menu comes up, select the regional code for Rogers RWC. The phone will now go through a reset/boot sequence and come this time, it should read the APN settings from your SIM card and viola, you now have LTE. If you do not see LTE but 3G, you will need to ensure your APN settings are correct and then go into the Network Mode and ensure you have LTE/WCDMA/GSM (auto mode) selected.
Let me know how it goes.

I actually did the last sstep you mentioned below this morning (found the steps online ) and it still didn't work lol, so technically when i did it in the app it was my second time restarting the phone. Not sure what's going wrong here. Seems like bmc still lingers around. Haha don't give up on me

When you flashed back to stock ROM, did you do a full wipe before?
It is really important that you do a full wipe so that it doesn't leave any traces of your old installs.
Try to flash via Odin (while your phone is on Download Mode). Check the AP and the CSC box and input the stock file from SamMobile.
Let me know if it fixes it.

HELP I broke my LTE

First off I'm using an unlocked S5 on straight talk's LTE network, have been for about 9 months with no problems. I've talked to support twice and they reactivated networks and all that good stuff, and when none of that worked sent me a new sim, which I have just activated and it still didn't fix my problem - so I'm finally bringing my issue here.
Last week I decided to update from phoenix rom oc4 (I think it was oc4) to optimal rom og5 (15-5). Anyway I was hasty in flashing and messed up, so just went back to stock ncg > root > full wipe > flash firmware, rom, kernel, firmware again just to be safe. The rom works fine except I seem to have lost my data connection. The 4G icon still shows, but it's not filled in - as you can see in the screenshots. To make it even more strange, when I check the network and sim card in apps like Advance Signal Status and Sim Manager, I still seem to be getting a connection to 4G but there is just no data flowing. The only error I can see is in phone info, when I run a ping test, I get PingIpAddr: Fail: IP addr not reachable which you can also see in the screenshots. It would appear this is my problem but I don't know where to go from here. I'm going to start flashing different versions of modems, starting with oc4 to see if that helps. Then I'll probably try different roms, but I've flashed other roms trying to fix this and even restored the backup to when it worked and it still didn't fix my problem. Did I wipe my IP address or something maybe? I am in CDMA/LTE mode, and the vzwinternet apn is selected.
For starters try to put the apn settings for your carrier and if not sure call them and ask them to email you the setting
I fixed it, went back to stock ncg instead of ni2 and that worked. Weird.

Sprint users?

Are there any fellow Sprint users on the MXPE? If you are, are you running an AOSP ROM? Have you ever gotten data and voice roaming working on AOSP? If so, how'd you do it?
Yes, I've had data working on the orion rom (which I believe is cm13 based). Check your apn's, the one containing n5......something.or.other is the appropriate one IIRC.
Mobile networks should be cdma/lte.
Network data and voice is just fine for me. It's all roaming that's messed up. Will check apn's next time I flash.

I must be blind, but where do we find the APN settings on the phone?
^^It's a byproduct of "stock" software. APN's access is readily available in aosp/non stock roms.
The function is still there in the stock rom, but requires an extra step or two to get at it.
If you use a third party launcher such as nova, you can add it under activities. Long press a blank area on the home screen, select widgets, then swipe to the left on the top most row, select activities. Scroll down and open the settings entry then look for APN.
Or, use this - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.szalkowski.activitylauncher&hl=en
I'm on Sprint with STOCK/LOCKED/UNROOTED and this phone flat out refuses to roam all over the US. Specifically what APNs should be in the STOCK list (I used Nova to access APNs) and they look to be there.
^^I don't think the apn has anything to do with roaming. Have you checked your roaming options under the main android settings?
Are you on a plan that provides roaming? Roaming properly enabled on your account? Updated the prl?

I drive semi truck, my usual run is Wisconsin to Washington state and back. My phone, for the most part, will switch into roaming using TruPure. Two runs ago my phone wouldn't roam at all. I tried toggling data, updating PRL and the device config, eventually doing a clean flash, and still had no roaming. Eventually I ran the stock restore tool, flashed the modem separately, and did *#*#72786#*#* in the dialer. I'm back to roaming on a stock based ROM again. I haven't tried an AOSP rom since posting my question a few days ago.

Edit: I also used *#*#rtn#*#*
^^Did you post about this in the rom thread? I'd guess one of the removed services is somehow affecting roaming.
I wanted to do a bit more trouble shooting first. Before my next to Washington, my plan was to flash AOSP and see if roaming was working again. I forgot to note, after confirming roaming was working on the stock ROM again, TruPure was flashed and was roaming properly too. My thoughts were that somehow Sprint provisioning got screwed up or a flash somehow messed up the modem.
When you flashed truepure again, what type of reset did you do (if any)?
Sprint's provisioning system is poop. Their system is a 2 part authentication. Your voice/text is tied to the device meid (not imei), data is tied to the sim card. This seems quite @ssbackward to me, considering verizon, tmo, att all associated your number with the sim card. While the device still transmits its imei during registration, no user intervention is needed when switching device. With sprint you need to log into the account and update the device too.
It seems each time you do a clean flash (wipe userdata), the software attempt to perform the 'handsfree' activation (or its equivalent on the moto x). If you perform a factory reset from within android, a number of carrier parameters get erased. If you a factory reset from twrp, they get retained.
I'm also on sprint but through ringplus, so no roaming included.
After running the http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3199905
[WINDOWS TOOL][5.1.1]Moto X Style/Pure Edition "Restore-To-Stock-Tool" , flashing the modem separately, and doing the dialer codes, all was good with roaming. Roaming again worked with TruPure. Nothing special was needed. After restoring stock and reflashing TWRP, I just flashed TruPure like any other rom. No special steps were needed.

Sorry for the long delay, been all over the place.
Yes plan provides roaming, and is enabled. PRL updated. I verified with Sprint customer care that the account is provisioned with no errors so I should be good to go on the Sprint side.
Im going to try what Misfit0313 did, restore to stock and flash modem. I'm assuming the return to stock takes it back to Lollipop so I'll get the MM OTA. Are you able to flash a modem on MM? Maybe the Modem side got corrupted somehow on my stock phone when it upgraded to MM right out of the box.
Buried in the Restore to Stock tool thread, there are directions to flash the modem separately via ADB. For some reason, the tool broke WiFi, necessitating the need for the modem reflash.
I just took the OTA to come from LP to MM

I flashed this fix on a clean install and AOSP roaming is working.
So roaming is controlled by the apn?? Interesting. Didn't realize that was the case.
Are you the same misfit on the freenode network/evo4g lte days?

Dude, yep its me. I don't stop in there too much anymore. Always bs going on in my life. Hobbit problems.
I tried to change APN settings as you suggested in AICP rom, but I kept getting a message like 'user doesn't have sufficient privileges to change settings'. That's why i gave that old ass fix a try. Reported in AICP thread. Went to south TX this week and I have no issues to report with voice or data roaming on AICP.
Still have the Infinity or did you move onto something badder?

i can't set APNs or even make calls/texts on AOSP ROMs like Dirty Unicorn and PureNexis with Sprint...Flashing this zip fixed that for you?
Edit: Meh...just tried clean flashing PureNexis with the sprint.zip fix and still cant make calls or set APN's
My question: Is roaming working on stock based roms for you?
Stock roaming wasn't working for me, and Sprint insisted it wasn't at their end. After doing all the steps I mentioned previously, stock roaming finally was a go. I still had to flash the sprint.zip on a clean install to get AOSP roaming working. Without roaming on stock, there's no way roaming will work on any other ROM.
