[Q]Systemless root, custom rom - Nexus 6P Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello XDA.
Been looking around this sub-thread for N6p, but I cannot seem to find an updated/maintained thread for systemless root on android 7.x.x.
Can someone point me to one, or tell me how (if) I can get systemless root on custom rom (AICP).
I would really love to get it so I can use Magisk (got some root hating apps I want to use)
Thanks in advance
Bjørn

I believe Magisk handles all of that now if you're using Magisk Hide, etc. Ask in the Magisk discussion thread. You'll probably have better luck their as not everyone runs Magisk. They'd also have to most up to date information for you.

Simple, reliable systemless root for A2017G on T-Mobile in the UK?

Hello good folks of XDA
I have a stock A2017G. I would like to have root access as I really like safety and flexibility that Titanium Backup gives me. I would also like to be able to play Pokemon GO and perhaps use banking apps and Android Pay. I am a big fan of FolderMount too but perhaps with 64GB internal memory, this won't be so important. I'm not really bothered about custom ROMs as there tends to be issues (I spent ages getting everything to work on Ambasadii on my SGS4) but may move to Resurrection Remix once it's settled down.
I think that means that I should install Magisk. Can any UK user share with me a set up that will give me systemless root on an A2017G? I've read the forums in detail but I can't see anything definitive and there's lots of discussion of various modems etc.
Thank you!

Magisk - does it really have a FULL ROM? Viper?

Hi to all,
ORIGINAL BUILD
Nexus 10 Manta 5.1.x
CURRENT
Resurrection Remix 7.1.2, and LATEST busy box pro, SuperSU Pro,
Other than that I have not added or changed anything else.
IT SEEMS that ROMs take up a lot of System space, then I cannot add a larger gapps package.
WHAT I WANT TO TRY
Does Magisk have its own ROM package?
I have read about VIPER ROM - but it seems to be for the HTC?
1). I would like a SMALLER ROM package where I can use Xposed Framework and modules. Which ROMs would that be, and does it take me back to Marshmallow?
1a). Is this where Magisk works well - allowing me to install xposed?
1b). With my current ROM, I cannot install more software. (Yes, I have removed apps that I do like to install others) - Is this ROM considered a LARGE system space hog?
2). Is there a HUGE difference between nougut and marshmallow? If not, I do not mind going back to Marshmallow to get xPosed Framework.
3). I do not want all of the Bloated google apps, but would like to pick and choose which ones to install - which I think would be AROMA Gapps?
4) which ROMS are best and SMALLER (is there such a ROM), for marshmallow?
5). Is there anything SPECIAL I need to do if I go from Nougut BACK to Marshmallow?
Any other suggestions are very welcome. I have been searching, studying, and looking for specific information to answer my questions........maybe some of the answers exist, but I might need them in simpler answers. Smiles
Thanks to all!
How funny. It is Jan 2, 2018 and I am still researching Systemless Roots and Xposed subjects......looking for the best way to get XPOSED back on my Nexus 10..... (Love Xposed)

Dude just delete system apps, it frees space fro Xposed and ****, and magisk shouldn't take up any /system space anyway.
I have R. Remix ROM (nougat) 7.1.1 on my nexus 10.......I want to find out if I can use Xposed.....
Or if I just go back to Marshmallow?
AND
Did I understand that Xposed is now a Systemless way to root? On ALL devices?

Looking for a 6.x rom for galaxy S4

Hi guys,
Sadly i got injured and i cant get out of the house. I'm playing Pokemon Go, but i live in a rural area...
Downgrading my brand new S8+ is not an option, but a friend gave me his old S4.
really want to install that game, with a FlyGPS app so i Wont miss the event
If i'm not mistaken, FlyGps works best with 6.1 Roms.
I believe its a GT-I9500, but not sure
the game isnt even working on that S4 - guess its because of the CM rom on it. tried to Unroot - doesnt help.
Hope im not breaking any rule...
If you have any other method, I would SO appreciate your help!
Here are some screenshots of what he has on it:
Thanks in advance, Mark
Pokémon Go uses Google's Safetynet. In your case, you have to use a custom ROM with Magisk in order to hide root so Safetynet doesn't trigger. You'll have to check the I9500 development forums to see if there is a current ROM that will work for you, and that ROM will either have to have SuperSU for root - the Magisk installer script can replace SuperSU - or no root at all. Stock-based ROMs won't work for you, and it's doubtful there are any Android 6.x ROMs to fit your needs, so you're likely looking for an Android 7.x ROM instead.
As to breaking any rules? If Niantic catches you using a location spoofing app you will be permanently banned from the game. You need to decide whether this event is worth the risk of being permanently banned.

Anyone confirm this Magisk rooting method will still pass safetynet on Android 7.0

Hello
I've read around this a lot here and elsewhere and I can't seem to get a definitive answer as to the best solution to the root I'd like. I would like to use TiBu and play PokemonGO (and perhaps use the Barclays UK banking app). It looked like Magisk was the way to do this with Nougat 7.0. This video:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CjwSjiE76o8
Which is also shown here in a series of screenshots:
http://galaxys7root.com/galaxy-s7-s...s7-or-s7-edge-on-android-7-0-nougat-w-magisk/
...would seem to do what I want. But I expect I would use updated versions of Magisk etc.
I can see threads on here that would indicate that Magisk is now not able to help you pass safetynet with a rooted phone but I think that may be for updated versions of Android and 7.0 may still be OK.
Can anyone confirm that the rooting method shown here is sensible. Or, failing that, the best way to achieve what I want with a currently stock G930FD running 7.0?
Thanks
Maqgisk does by pass safetynet.
Magisk has it own root now built in.
the links you have provided user older versions of magisk without dated installation methods.
Install twrp on your phone then magisk v.14. you do not need any other files.

Thanks! That's the kind of definitive answer I was looking for.
Btw, which Android version are you on? I have an update available that I can download but not sure I should. As I said, I'm on 7.0 so not sure what I'd end up on if I updated.
As I like TouchWiz but would like to reduce the bloat, I am tempted by the Superman ROM, which makes the update point moot.

I am on a custom s8 7.0 rom called galaxy project.

Some help would be appreciated [root etc]

Hi guys! Got an A1 dirt cheap, and oh my god is it the perfect lovebaby from pure android and xiaomi design (cough apple cough).
I'm not completely new to rooting, flashing, etc. but there seems to be quite some difference between A1 and my old HTC 10, so I'd like to gather some info from you guys.
So, ideally I'd like to have/do this:
stick to stock rom and kernel, no issues there. also, staying on 8.0 is no problem, no need to upgrade to 9.0 whenever that comes around.
get TWRP going, so I can; get xposed and root
somehow keep netflix and snapchat going after root, now I know that rooted devices can't, but I'm hoping you guys know something I don't.
I'm used to rooting with SuperSU, no particular reason other than habit. I see a lot of magisk going around here, are there specific benefits to it? And why do we need to flash an .img for rooting, I could straight up root after unlocking bootloader on my HTC 10.
Kind regards
I can only provide you some info about magisk. People here tends to root with magisk maybe because its features. It can install mods systemlessly. You can google what is that. And basically for me, magisk is easy to use. We can find mods easily from Downloads section and manage mods with ease. And for me a custom ROM user, magisk its a must . And I never use xposed on a1 because when not careful enough it can make bootloop. No one like bootloop.
And yeah, Mi A1 is a beauty, especially the design (Cough apple cough) hahaha
