Can't delete files on SD card - Moto G4 Plus Questions & Answers

Hello - I've just upgraded to the Motorola G4 Plus from an S5. I've moved the SD card across and it's set as portable storage RW access by the looks of it. I've installed File Manager and I can't get permission to delete files. I've looked at the wizard and it doesn't really help.
Any Ideas?
On a separate matter what is the best way to view pictures as it doesn't have a Gallery App?
Thanks

can't see files on storage card

after several reg hacks and program installs, a lot of files and folders on my storage card are not there. For example the folder "Program Files" is not there so my apps are gone, also DCIM which has all my pics from my digital camera.
I know the files are still there because Its a 1 gig card and on spb today plug in it sas 570mb used but when i open it and select all the files and folders available and click on properties it says they are only 223mb so i'm missing 347mb worth of files, most of them pics which i really want, they're from my vacation last week and still haven't backed them up!
----------edit--------------------------------------------
got it!! i thought about it and figured out this wasn't a ppc specific problem, so i did some research, first got a couple hits to some websites that assist you in recovering pics off digital camera memory cards and figured out all i needed was a data recovery program. I used GetDataBack and its working perfectly!
hi
am having exactly the same problem. do you need a special format of getdataback to install on the wizard? once you find the files do you copy them elsewhere or do they just then show up on the memory card?
thanks

[Q] Stupid question on SD Cards

Just got my Iconnia last week and it's stunning.
However if I drag .apk's onto my 32Gb SD Card I can't seem to find them using Linda File manager.
Is there a particular programme I need to use to access it?
When I look into Storage it only seems to show my internal memory, howevermy Gallery DOES find my camera pics on the card so what am I doing wrong?
Dragging using what ?? on desktop PC ?? ( best is to copy & paste )
for when on the iconia... I downloaded "Astro file manager" ... there are many others...etc
your Ext_SDCard and USB storage is under the sub directory of /mnt
You should post in the "General" section...as this is the "DEV" section...
File Manager for Honeycomb.
I ran into this problem when I first got mine too.
The external sd card is actually showing in mnt/external_sd in your root folder
Basically this means that when you use astro file manager or root explorer and you open that instead of clicking on sdcard you click the folder listed as "mnt" then external sd
Thanks Guys.
Mods - Can you please move this to general Doh!

Pics on SD Card Not Showing Up in Gallery

I have the Verizon variant and I'm experiencing an issue where only some of the images on my SD card are showing up in the gallery. I took the card straight from my V10. I have tried the following to no avail:
- Backed up files to PC
- Reformatted the card from the phone
- Replaced files
What's also weird is that if I take a pic with the camera it puts the image in the camera folder on the SD card with existing images but only the new one shows up.
Any ideas? Thanks in advance!

I had an issue like that when I went from a Note 3 to 4. I looked in the card and found saved thumbnail image files and temp files. Once I removed all of those (while the card was in the PC) and then put the card back in the phone, it worked fine.
check the card to see if there no ".foldername" or ".nomedia" file in those directory
Thanks I tried both suggestions and they didn't work. I also wanted to mention that when I go into the stock file manager and attempt to open one of the images I get the flowing message:
Scanning media files..... Try again when scanning is completed

I had a similar issue, this is how I fixed it
Use Root Explorer or ES File Manager (Root explorer is my preference because it lets you have two directories side by side)
Navigate to the SD card, locate the folder(s) with the pics. Copy(not cut) all the folders and then paste them into your internal memory (in Root explorer I went to my downloads folder, created a new folder and stuck everything in there).
Then once everything is copied, format your SD card again. Then move everything back.
Once I did that, Gallery was able to see all my files.
Delete or do not copy the Android, data, Lost.Dir folders ... could be a permission issue

Just make sure any app you have set to save data to the SD card is backed up somewhere else or you will lose said data

Thanks for the suggestion. This worked!

The only drawback to copying back and forth is that it changes the "modified" date on the files and then makes them appear as new photos

Yeah that was the only drawback to doing that. I already have everything backed up to Google photos so all I did was not turn the back up on those folders on again and any new photos I've been creating new events/folders for them.
I just had this same problem. V20 didn't see my Mp3s or my pictures.
I just finished setting up my 200 gb card that came with my v10 promo last year but I had been using it in my tablet.
I went to the file manager and deleted lost.dir and everything is showing now! That's the only one I deleted and it was empty anyway. (unless there was something hidden in there)
I just spent 2 days setting this up and clearing stuff from my v10. I did my best not to panic when I finally inserted the sd and nothing changed!
Glad I had seen this thread!

I have tried all of the solutions suggested. I have an LG v20. I have at 512GB SD card (phone supposedly supports up to 2GB) My file manager and most any photo gallery app will not see the pictures on the sd card. I have backed up, format and re copied. No change. I can see them in Google photos but I'm not even sure that it's looking on my phone rather than backed up photos in the cloud. This is frustrating.
Ok. I think I figured it out. My pic folder was a sub folder on my SD card. Beneath the pic folder were more sub folders to separate my photos. I moved the pic folder to the root of my SD card and the problem went away. I think there might be a limit to the number of sub folder depth for scanning. SD\MyDoc\PIC\(segregated folders) would not work. The only weird part is that it did find the videos in the segregated folders but no images. Strange. Regardless, everything shows up in attaching, file manager and gallery.
I just created a folder in the dcim folder called oldPics then moved all to that folder. Bam! Shows up in there own folder in gallery.
sd card issues..please help
having issues with sd card showing mp3 or pictures from my sd card. in the file explorer the files are there but in gallery or music player they are not. I have deleted the Android, data, Lost.Dir folders with no changes. Can anyone point me in the right direction with this?
thanks 949BFN I have tried your suggestions. still having the same issue. the files work fine from file explorer but not in their respective apps. I have downloaded about 10 apps between the gallery and sd card and none of them recognize the sd card. any other suggestions?
I had the same issue. Pictures on the SD Card (which came from a S7 Edge) were not recognised by the native Gallery app. (Quickpic did not have an issue displaying the pictures). I could however not get any app to recognise music (mp3's and playlists) on the same SD card.
After trying the suggestions in this thread, I realised that all one has to do, is to rename the folder to something else (I e.g. changed my "Music" folder to "Musicd". I forced closed all Music apps, reopened the apps and all the mp3's and playlists were immediately recognised. (Not sure if this step was actually necessary). I forced close the app again, changed the "Musicd" folder back to "Music" and all is well. All Music apps (including Google Play Music) no recognise the music and playlists on the SD Card)
I did the same with my "Pictures" folder and subsequently, the Gallery app picked up the folders. However, I now have an issue with the Gallery app crashing about 10 seconds after opening it I've tried all the usual stuff (clearing phone and the app cache); rebooting etc. with no luck so far.

Changing SD Card on S7e - Issue on many application

Dear community, from this morning I had issue with my 64Gb SDCard on rooted S7E. Then, I realize that it was broken. So I changed it with a new one and copy my backup files to the new SD. The problem now is that many application doesn't work well.
Previous mount was /storage/6FE5-88C0 now I have /storage/3363-3134
In some case I can change the path on applications, in other case I cannot be able to start app anymore (even if I reinstall it), like Titanium Backup or Gallery. Plus for example QuickPic is not able anymore to open photos from SD card.
Is there any way to change the mount point back to /storage/6FE5-88C0 maybe using TWRP or something like that?
Thank you
Lucas
DAMN Solved! It was the address in XInternalSD. Setting the new mount solved every issues!

Cannot Manually Add files to internal Storage SD Card, but Apps can be transfered

I'm having a rather unique problem with my the Micro SD card I installed.
I can format it as internal storage and it won't pop up for file managers or my computer.
This means I can't manually move files to it all.
Despite that when it's internal storage I can move apps to it and it adds new apps to it by default.
I could go to move all and move everything it can on, but it's a fairly slow SD card so I'm hoping to mainly put music, videos and any pictures on there.
I worry about it moving the apps that I want to keep in internal storage for speed over.
Does anyone know how I could fix this?
EDIT:
I didn't manage to figure out how to add files manually while it was internal storage through either internal file managers or through the computer.
But I did manage to find the SD card while it was portable.
The trick is to use the built in file explorer on the phone and copy a small file onto the SD card.
With there being something other than just Android files on the SD card it can then be discovered by the computer.
This mainly solves my problem as I plan to use it primarily for storage of music and game files, with the emulators being on the phone itself.
I had this issue a few days ago. You have 2 options to format, (1) as a internal storage and only your phone can read this and other option (2)to use on others devices. Using the second option I managed to transfer files to my microSD like it used to be.
While using the first option I was able only to transfer apps to it through the system.
I hope it helps
I'm using one, but I'm not even able to find it with File Manager?
Is that normal for Internal Storage?
I expected there to at least be a folder in the normal phone space called SD card or something?
Is there no way to manually move music there when it's internal storage?
Also I tried changing it to be portable but my computer still couldn't see it.
File manager could actually see it and open it but I couldn't copy paste anything to it.
So I turned it back to internal as I can at least move apps to it successfully at the moment.

When I tried as Internal Storage any File Manager found my SDcard too... Thats why I'm using as portable.
After that, i could see this.
Maybe you're missing something like changing the USB connection from Charging to File transfering.
Did you checked this?
Yes it can see the rest of my phone and move files, so I've made sure to change it to file transferring.
When you used internal storage file managers failed to find your SD card as well?

Here your saying that you could find it and that's why you swapped over?
I assume you forgot to say it failed to show up separately and that's why you changed to portable.

Sorry! Yes, I failed to find my SD card too, thats why i changed to portable.
Im assuming this is a normal behavior, my last Android phone was a Galaxy S2 and I stopped following Android changes for the lasts 4/5 years. But idk why you can't see it even in portable mode... That should work as worked for me.
Hope someone help you more than I did!

Thank you for trying to help.
I think I might have figured out part of the problem, the file explorer I normally use doesn't have permission to add anything to the SD card. I'm not sure how I would go about giving it permission though.
But when I use the system built in I was able to copy paste some music onto it.
With a file on the SD Card my computer was able to locate it as well, and I can now copy and paste to the SD card using my computer.
So with your help I was able to figure out how to get portable working.
It is a bit disappointing that there isn't a way to manually add files while it is an internal storage though.
So again while your solution didn't directly work, it made me think and find a solution to my problem even if it's not the one I wanted.
