S5 on Cyanogen 13.0 Nightly Issue with Insufficient Storage - Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm having some issues with trying to figure out how to free up space on my S5. I recently had to encrypt the phone to keep getting school email and it erased everything, however I'd been having issues in the past with low data notifications even though my apps and files are only taking up 1-2 of 12 gb total.
I went through root access and I've gone through a few menus looking for large files and I can't find anything. At this point, I tried doing a factory reset back into cyanogen and that didn't erase those files either.
I'm really confused as to why this is happening and would appreciate any help. I stopped updating nightlys because my phone was stable enough for day to day use and I was happy with it.
Can anyone please help advise me on how to get back to baseline since factory reset didn't clear the space? Or point me to a few threads to try to figure it out. I've spent all day trying to figure this out and I'm getting nowhere.
Edit: Internal storage says 11.17 of 11.58 gb used. Apps are only taking up 888mb. I feel like android system files are taking up the rest due to some error, but I can't figure out what's doing it. Already did a factory reset and dalvik cash reset. I lost all my apps when the phone encrypted and it says there's insufficient storage to add any now even though they were there this morning.
Thanks so much!

I managed to clear out enough space to download DiskUsage and in /data I have files marked lost+found that are taking up about 10 gigs of space!
I tried to delete the files through the program since I've read that these are safe to delete, but I get an error message saying that the files don't exist.
So I made some progress, but I'm still stuck! Does anyone have any insight? It seems like there's a lot of corrupt data here for some reason.

Do a safe boot. Power up & hold the vol down key, once you see the first splash logo, all the way home.
But I think you need a RSD lite restore. LOOK around with a real browser. I posted a House of Moto link in the general forum. There is one "stock restore" in my stickys
FDR doesn't always clear all the data. Do like Avi said and do a complete restore. Also, the phone doesn't have a lot of memory, so get rid of any apps that you don't use. There's no point in having hundreds of apps if you never use them. I DL less than 20 apps on both my phones and most of them are for root functions and a few "useability" apps.
If you have any big games (like Gameloft and EA games for example), they sometimes use gigs and gigs of space so you don't even need very many apps to fill up your /data partition.
What I do is move the gigs of data off the /data partition and to physical sdcard using the Directory Bind app. You will need to be rooted to use the app.

[Q] Encrypted i9500 -> self factory reset -> can't access my data

Hello every one,
I have galaxy s4 gt-i9500 with android 4.3 and I encrypted my phone some time ago.
What happened yesterday is my BIG problem. Because of an app my phone was frozen and then it made factory reset by itself. After I turned it on and got into the phone I was not able to see any previous data (which is normal after factory reset) everything was deleted, but... not exactly.
I checked the storage and now I have the same free space which I had before the reset. So basically my encrypted data is on my phone, but there is no way to access it or at least I don't have the skills.
The device showed me that my phone is still encrypted, but it did not make sense, because everything disappeared and I did not have my data.
What I did last night is to decrypt the phone, but it was strange, because I had to make new password in order to continue the process, instead of typing my old one. So I made the new password, which is my old one, and I decrypted the device. Still I could not access any previous data.
I don't have a SD card, the internal memory is encrypted only. So I am missing around 5.2gb of more free storage, which is the exact amount of my data - photos, docs, etc. These 5.2 gbs are shown as "Miscellaneous files", but of course when I open the ""m. files" the biggest thing in the list is the cloudagent with only 4.86mb
So as far as I can understand my files are still on the phone (hopefully) and the android shows so, but I cannot recover them.
Is there any way to recover these files or at least to delete (if there is no hope of recovering) the 5.2gb on my phone.
Thank you for your time!

Adoptive Storage on XT1575

Hello,
I have nothing something very interesting on my Moto X, but before that, a little story on my situation is in order. Almost a year ago, I had set up Adoptive Storage on my phone, because I liked the idea of having more app space (I wanted to install tons of games at the time). So, I set it up and continued to use my phone as normal. Fast forward to 5/16/2017. All the custom ROMs I had tried until that point didn't give me the performance I wanted. Apps would freeze, the phone would be choppy and laggy sporadically, etc etc. I was fed up with it, because, no matter what ROM I'd install, the same aforementioned issue would arise. My fed-up self decided to return to stock Marshmallow, so I followed the guide here, using the AutoFlashFirmwareScript section. Big mistake. It was too late. I had booted into my system, set everything up, and realized that my SD Card was giving an error saying that it isn't recognized by my phone. Of course it wouldn't, because I HAD SET IT UP AS INTERNAL! It would seem that all hope is lost....
However, I had just noticed something very peculiar. My phone was showing that it had 4.14 GB used out of 24.06 GB, but when I added up all the storage that each section took up (1.64 GB for apps, 24 KB for images, 8KB for videos, 40KB for audio, and 4.08 MB Other, as well as 21.5 MB Cached data), it didn't total the 4.14 GB that it was saying it was using. I also attached an image of what my file info looks like. Does this mean something?
I was reading this guide, and there seems to be a way to decrypt the External SD Card. Is this possible using a VM, since I don't have Linux on my computer?
Thanks in advance for any help!
You can only try to restore backup from google account(created before 5/16/2017).
Decrypt without key is impossible by home way.

That wouldn't bring back the music I had.
Is there any way to get the key? Also, what do you mean by "impossible by home way"?
Maybe Israel can help - like with Iphone.
Find any firm "restoring digital data".

pop up low storage on shield Pro 2019

Hello, since a few days I have a message on the home page that tells me that my storage is full
I only have 12 applications installed for a total of 2.5gb, I emptied the cache of applications, but I have only 350mb of space left
So I have slowdowns and I can't install new apps
Any solution apart from resetting everything?
EDIT : since a while I lost 150mo I have only 200mo free even by emptying the cache, there is a problem
EDIT 2 : I lost another 50mo and nothing in the cache
Hi,
Had the same problem here. Deleting apps didnt help either.
Storage kept telling me i had several gigs of apps installed although i deleted everything.
I just now did a factory reset and space was recovered. fingers crossed.
I did all updates again abd instalkled all poreviously installed apps.
Also im on the beta firmware from Nvidia.
My thoughts are somewhere a program update messed things up ealier.
greets,
AJ
ok thanks, I think I'll have no choice but to do a reset
Still working here after the reset.
I think somewhere a program upodate messed something up earlier.
I made a post about this on reddit. 2017 shield, no Plex/Kodi etc. Started happening after the 9.0.1 update in May. Internal storage just slowly disappears (from 10 GB available/free to 150 mb). Factory reset is the only workaround - and yes I have checked every app including system apps, gallery, media, system upgrade apps etc etc. And this happens even If I use adoptable storage (which I don't need since my apps only consume about 0.93 GB and I don't need much free space - but this bug is horrible.
There are a few posts on reddit and a developer from nVidia that is interested in logs. Here is the most recent post.
