Problems (SMS) after Rooting - Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Questions and Answers

Hello all,
I rooted my cell phone (AT&T Galaxy S7 Edge) yesterday and honestly it took a while and one of the batch fixes to remove the volte icon at the top, etc. However I still have on major problem and that I cannot find a straight-line answer to on this forum:
1. My phone icon and messaging icon have a "!" symbol on it. I can make calls but cannot send out text sms messages.
Does anyone have a simple fix for this?
I've tried this - https://forum.xda-developers.com/sho...php?t=1506812; and did not work.

How did you root? As far as i know rooting won't cause problems with sms. you probably did something else..

Normal method ie.. https://forum.xda-developers.com/ve...-to-notes-root-install-xposed-unroot-t3411039
The first part. I did not flash Xposed (not sure what that is for\if needed).
I flashed the S7_or_S7Edge_Fixes_Debloater_V15.zip listed in next steps as well (that removed the volte icon for me). But did not fix the sms issue.

I can receive sms but cannot send.

Head into Messages app, go to text message settings, and see if there is a number under "Message Centre".
I have the European version though, so maybe your settings are completely different but you should try this first

yes i think you should check this. else it's probably the debloater but nothing to do with root.

[Q] How do I disable this stupid Security Policy Update?

I just got my s5 a couple weeks ago, and so far I am loving it. However, there is one "feature" that sends me into an inexplicable foaming-at-the-mouth rage: the security policy update. Every other day, I will get a popup in my notification center telling me to turn on automatic updates. The exact text is:
"Tap here to allow automatic updates for the protection of your phone."
I click it, select "decline," and am send to the security policy updates section in my settings, where there is no option to permanently disable it. It goes away for a couple days, then pops up again to remind me that I need to turn this on. I don't want this horrid feature, and I plan on never selecting "accept," so is there any way to permanently disable this, or will I be forced to decline this every two days for the next few years?
It will get more and more common, mine got to be every few hours... The solution, root it, then use TitaniumBackup to freeze the Security Policy Updater...
My personal experience is w/ AT&T (SM-G900A model), use TowelRoot to root it (search for the threads on here), then with titaniumbackup freeze "Security policy updates SPD_v2..." and then voila, no more warning
If one dug deeply enough, there might be a system property to disable the policy update notification. But that would no doubt require root to edit. It sounds like a bug that you can't disable a pop up of this type. So presumably Google will fix that at some point.
The expedient answer is as the poster above suggested, root your device and freeze or disable the app generating the pop ups.

Awesome, thanks. When I searched for this popup on google, the results all mentioned the KNOX security thing, so I froze that in titanium backup to no avail.

Not sure if you meant before.. or that you just tried freezing Knox now. If the popup is still bothering you, the info in post No. 2 is good.

I had PREVIOUSLY read online about KNOX, and I merely mentioned that as an afterthought. I did follow the advice from post number 2, which is why I thanked the person.

I am getting the security updates notification periodically. I have rooted my phone using Towelroot and also have the paid version of Titanium Backup. I cannot find the "Security policy updates SPD_v2..." in order to freeze it. Can anyone tell me exactly how to find it in simple steps?
In TB tap on Backup/Restore > click to edit filters > type security in filter by name box.
If one is rooted, is it 'safe' to update / accept to have the SPU, updated, or will going forward with this, update the software if one is on a lower version, or will it cause to lose root? I am running NI2 and rooted with TR. Thanks

[Q] Turn ON usb port cover warning

Hello
I've seen plenty of posts around the net with people asking how to turn OFF the USB Port Cover warning that comes up when you unplug the cord. But, I want to turn mine back on. I actually like the warning popup, but I accidentally selected the "do not show again" box and now it's gone.
I do not have a rooted phone, and would prefer not to root if I don't have to at this time.
Model: SM-G900V
Android Ver: 4.4.4
Build: KTU84P.G900VVRI1ANI2
Thanks
..
Thank you. I'll look into that and see. (To be honest, it's my wifes phone and she doesn't want it rooted, I'll root my own once a Verizon root starts working again)

Not sure why your messages are both showing up as just two dots now, but I did get to read your reply in the email notification.
"Restoring a backup is always the best way to recover.
But most people don't bother to make them. And since you aren't willing to root, you can't edit the system property directly. Which means that your only option is to clear the preference you committed.
Go to the Application manager in the Settings menu and look on the "Al" submenu. You need to identify which app generates the reminder message and then choose clear cache and data for it to restore the warning. A Google search would identify the app or process name for youOnce a Verizon root starts working again?
You're misinformed. Verizon roots have been working all along.?
In regards to Verizon roots, they may work for others, it does not work for mine. I've attached two screen shots that show what phone I have, and the message that Towelroot gives me when I run it. If you could point me to something else that does work for my model phone, that would be great.

Freshly rooted

Ok, so I just rooted my Verizon S7 Edge and there are a few questions/issues I am having.
1) Everything seems REALLY laggy, any suggestions?
2) There are 2 new icons on my notification bar... one is a Vo))) LTE symbol, the other is a weird symbol that looks like an oval with a spike on top and bottom.
3) When my phone boots it continually loads the apps? Is that normal? I havn't rooted a phone since my old S3.
4) I keep getting a security notice. If this is due to me rooting the phone, how do I disable the notification?
I just saw this post for fixing #2 icons: https://forum.xda-developers.com/ve...mod-remove-rcs-service-volte-service-t3411206
I haven't rooted yet, what method did you use?

S7 Edge "IMS Service has stopped" pop ups even after Factory Reset, just updated 7.0

S7 Edge "IMS Service has stopped" pop ups even after Factory Reset, just updated 7.0
Im at wits end with this, usually Factory Reset is the last draw and should fix whatever bug i have,
My device is from Optus Australia but I flashed MM 6.0 Australia from the first day and when i got the device March 2016, today a OTA update for Nougat 7.0 came out and I downloaded it, since then Ive been getting "IMS Service has stopped" error every 3 seconds and every input touch I do the device lags or screen turn offs.
I did Reset all settings, then Factory Reset and Wipe Cache Partition, still getting the pop up at the Welcome message, Device is vanilla and no root.
Much more interesting: How can we turn off the IMS-Service? If we just uninstall it with Titanium Backup (root)...would the messages still pop up?
Ok, So I did everything and still nothing, But removing the sim card fixes the problem :/
Im having the same issue with my optus s7 edge.
i though i figured out a temporary work around by disabling the WiFi.
But the issue has cropped up again this morning.
Hi guys! I'm sure you will find a way to thank me but I found the fix... Which I also posted it over @ whirlpool forums.
Go into Mobile networks and turn on VoLTE -> that's it!
IMS message should dissapear and phone return to full speed - have tested on my friends s7 aswell who also had this same issue after the OTA update.
:highfive: bottoms up!
If this fix worked for you post back here and give me a virtual hi-5 .... :good:

Settings > Connections > Mobile Networks > "VoLTE"
Turn it on.
You can access the settings menu by swiping down from the top of screen and clicking the gear symbol (top right)

Glad to hear!
Apparent optus is issuing a OTA fix on 28th for this issue. which is just not good enough.
I only stumbled on this 'fix' by accident desperately trying to fix. unless you go forum searching I can only imagine how many others are stuck right now.
Now that I ran the S7_or_S7Edge_Fixes_Debloater_V15.zip on my Rooted Sprint G7 edge, Using the QAA version. I'm getting a IMS has stopped message. I could really use some help.

clementho9, What I ended up doing was, resetting and clean wipe my Phn back to default, I didn't want to do that, BUT everything that I tried didn't work and it made my device damn near unusable. After the wipe I rerooted and reflashed my phn , ButI didn't flash that zip file ever again.

I'm having the same issue after flashing the S7_or_S7Edge_Fixes_V15.zip ... does anybody knows what could be the fix for this?
The message says "IMS service has stopped" . And it comes back as soon as I close the pop up. It's very annoying.
Thanks.
This is how I got it to stop flashing that irritating IMS service Geese
I used ES Explorer it had root access
If you don't have it get it you'll need it next
Painfully but that IMS service blast and all through the whole entire process I was taking my time until I got into the location of this IMS service APK and I deleted that sucker folder and all
From root access of your phone /system/app/IMS SERVICE
That's the location of that god-forsaken irritating application I delete the folder and all the contents inside of it I then shut the phone down and restarted the phone comes back up works just like a charm no problem..
Remind you it is very painful clicking every fifth of a second while being cautious not to double-click on the wrong item.
What I found work best for me was double click and then click and hold on that file once it became Highlighted delete poof gone !!!!!!!!!!

Check out my post #17 Below yours.
Is your answer.. ???
Less painful way to delete imsservice.apk
So I also ran into this issue after flashing S7_or_S7Edge_Fixes_Debloater_V15.zip. Instead of painfully using the phone to delete the apk, you can use adb from your PC. Simply open CMD (Windows) and run the following:
1) adb remount
2) adb shell
2) rm -f /system/app/imsservice/imsservice.apk
Then reboot your phone.
I had the same problem after installing the infamous fixer_debloater_v15.zip. Brand new phone, haven't even put a SIM card in it yet. Ended up removing the IMS Service folder and saving it in case I decide to try to put it back someday. Does anyone know what we are losing by not having IMS Services?

reset software update from official

when doing a check for software update in the official rom, as soon as an update is found for a given program LG locks it's until the user applies the update. As this looks like an abuse from LG I would like to know how to prevent or reset the software update tool from locking apps once it found an update.
You can touch & hold on the notification line until some options appears. Choose Show notification silently and you will be fine.

once it found an update for an app, of course an LG stock rom app, and locked its current version, how to unlock?
Which model are you using? I've never experienced this kind of situation.

i wrote the title a bit awkwardly, it seems there is no option to modify it. This is H990DS.
I'm using LS997 stock rom and never have this issue, so I can help you with this. Did you try to install a custom rom on it?
