Any of the roms with wx_na_wf in the name are for the US WiFi version. I installed ota.nvidia.com/ota/rom/productionBL-droid-signed-wx_na_wf-incremental_ota-from-20258_426.6902-to-20258_434.7217.zip and it works just fine. I haven't noticed anything different though.
Aohh, ok thanks for the information.
Does this include all the original software that comes pre-installed on the shield tablet.
How do you flash these updates?
Edit: Nvm, Realised you gotta boot into recovery via USB debugging, using the Shield portable drivers. and then "Adb sideload --.zip file"
Side note, If anymore OTA links come up please sure! thanks!

Do you need a custom recovery image to flash the updates with flashify or will it work without one? Also if you do need a recovery image which o e works?

is ther an international wifi only variant?
Doesn't matter. Just noticed that the North america wifi is the same one launched worldwide.
So is the modem and wif the variant with voice call capability? Then this would be the phablet of the year!
I flashed it, and haven't noticed all that much, WIFI signal seems fine for me, it seems little smoother. but that could just be placebo, no crashing and no overheating. been using this for about 3 hours hooked up to my TV playing PSP emulator. And only lost about 15% battery, currently using the Optimize profile for the shield.

yeah recovery errored out with can't install an older build over a newer one.
I think the dates were 28 July versus 10th August..
Very odd numbering system - I wonder if @agrabren could throw any light onto the build numbering?

I'm not sure where that list came from.
I didn't know about it till today (but I only got the shield tablet today).
Yeah would be nice to get an address to the site these are coming from to see if anything newer is out. Going to root of the update site just gives permission denied error.

It seems to me that a lot of people are going to need help rooting the Nvidia Tablet on Marshmallow, and for now this is what has worked for me so far, so i'm putting together this little guide with information i was able gather together to help others (Hopefully) Root their tablet, so here you go. This DOES work on the Nvidia tablet K1.
DISCLAIMER!
So uh, if your nvidia tablet gets bricked or something its not my fault, so good luck.
STEP NUMBER ONE!
What you want to do is download the rooted boot.img (that is brought you you by castrwilliams in this thread, Thanks man! ) and flash your boot.img with it.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/shi...ndroid-6-0-marshmallow-update-t3247432/page11
(If you don't know how to flash for some reason here is a guide):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1752270
STEP NUMBER TWO!
After flashing the boot.img provided in that thread your going to want to download this app:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=me.phh.superuser&hl=en
After downloading it you should have root access on your Nvidia Tablet!
All of this was pointed out my dowlf on this thread and that i made in to a guide for other people

EXPERIMENTAL TWRP FOR NVIDIA TABLET MARSHMALLOW! (by steel01, and brought to my attention by fards, thanks!)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=64520513&postcount=229
If anyone has anything to contribute go ahead and post below.
For anyone needing help rooting, here is a youtube video that explains it by eob20000 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=16anmE2I_fc But it is in lolipop and not MM, But still it may help. GOODLUCK!
I've been busy with school, i will try to update this guide with any new info i find soon. Thanks!
I did this method on the day I updated and it ran fine for a while, then it turned to crap. I had to reflash the nvidia recovery and am now back on lollipop rooted. If I do go back to marshmallow, which is doubtful, I will wait for a good twrp recovery or a thinned down flashable rom.

Just got my Shield K1 last night and updated to 6.0. I wasn't sure I was going to root this device, but an app to change DPI would be nice so I don't have to plug in for ADB each time I want to switch DPI. Seems mixed reviews on this working with Marshmallow being so recent, should I wait a bit for a more stable boot image and to root, or is this working and stable for anyone?

What are the downsides to rooting the shield? I read somewhere that it changes something and you won't ever be able to recurve official otas

As far as i know, your warranty will be voided, but other then that i don't know of any other downsides.
Works perfectly for "old" shield, super stable and battery friendly, I was having problems with touch sensitivity, but after recalibration and reboot nothing to worry about.
LTE is not supported if anyone is guessing.

you won't be able to get OTA if you change the recovery Twrp or cwm, HOWEVER you can install it, it just takes a few more simple steps.
I'm just rooted my K1 / Lollipop & Installed the mostly working TWRP, can someone sum up the quickest way to keep root and update to marshmallow? Or should I hold off for now ?
Would be greatly appreciated...

For those who wants to root K10 MTK Variants
The tutorial
Lets make some changes.
Downgrade your k10 first to 2016 android security patch. I discover that the latest patch of K10 with android patch 2017 do not allow supersu package to install even if its already in gz compression they may change the boot image so hard this time. Now use LGUP and use UPPERCUT on flashing K10 to its previous patch.
:good::good::good::good::good:
As far as I know there is allredy this metod explained, I couldn't watch all the videos because I would become completely blind. If it is a different metod you should write a text guide with images. Or use screen capture at least on pc.

This is not the same since it's using the old solution. The new solution is much more simple. Also i don't think it's proper to make a thread about this video guide cos i have also video guides in my thread...
Anyways can you make a recovery log about what happens when you try to install supersu on the 2017 patch level firmware?

Can anyone tell me what the most current build of Android is for the Moto g5 plus ? Currently it's showing build 7.0 January security patch NPN25 137-33
I'm used to just FastBoot and Nexus/Pixle devices so Motorola is a change for me , does Moto have an image site or somewhere I can download factory Images from ?
Sadly no. You have to wait to get the OTA directly, or for someone to capture a compatible one and post it here. I'm retgb and have exactly the same version as you currently with a January security patch.

Yeah sorry I just meant there is no official firmware listing so you're reliant on people posting links here. Also there's a bit of a minefield for us as there isn't one standard device/software channel across the whole world like there is with Nexus devices. I really miss those days, but the Pixel was just too rich for me.

That has been my big question, I'm on retus and with several different versions being posted, will I ruin my modem or make some parts incompatible if I sideload? I am not rooted yet but I'm frustrated being on the same(??) version you are.
PLEASE PROVIDE LINKS TO RELEVANT ARTICLES AND FILES WHEN UPDATING THE SHEET!!!!
I don't know if it's possible to make a chart through the forums, but I was hoping you folks might be able to help me out and other users as well.
I created a Google Doc which has a few versions of the Fire OS listed and whether or not they are rootable, downgradable, can have OTA blocked, get Google Apps and have a replacement launcher.
Maybe it's a silly idea, but I figured I'd give it a shot. The sheet for now is open to all with a link. Please feel free to add more versions, information, links (in the via columns?) to instructions, etc.
5.4.0.1 can be downgraded to 5.4.0.0 https://forum.xda-developers.com/amazon-fire/help/fireos-5-4-0-1-downgrade-t3671406
Very good, and overdue, idea.
Some remarks, as I cannot use a Google account:
There's no 5.3.3.3 - you mean 5.3.3.0
Sometimes 5.4.0.0 is referred to as 5.3.4.0 (that's the version string that shows up in several places)
Although "5th gen Fire 7" should be clear enough, please add the "ford" codename in a prominent place
It would be good to collect download links for stock firmware
Is it still worth listing versions < 5.3.2.1? I think so, they are the rootable ones.
Any moderator around? This one deserves to become sticky as soon as the empty cells have been filled.

I appreciate it, but I'm not sure how far that will go. Apparently some of the information is encompassed here. It's missing some of the latest information and is not organized in a way for my mind to process it very well. That's not to say it isn't organized, just hard for me to process it.
Greetings,
I want to confirm I'm understanding this spreadsheet correctly. My FireOS is 5.6.2.0, am I able to just pick and downgrade to an earlier firmware version that will allow rooting ? Or do I need to downgrade in the correct order to get back to a rootable earlier version: downgrade 5.6.2.0 > 5.6.0.1 > 5.6.0.0, etc... Or am I just out of luck and stuck with no option to root?

Downgrading to 5.4 will allow removal of *some* Amazon bloat with various restrictions. You can also install Google's Play store for access to a wider selection of apps. See relevant threads in the General section for more details.

Best read the relevant threads. Some claim success going directly to 5.4 from 5.6.2. Others take an incremental approach: 5.6.2->5.6.1->5.4.1->5.4.0. I personally believe a direct download is possible and safe but don't have direct experience to back that statement (all my Fire 7's are early 5th gen; rooted and TWRP bootable; most never saw FireOS).

If your 5th gen device is running FireOS 5.3.2.1 or higher it can not be rooted - hence no custom ROMs. Been that way for 2 years and unlikely to change. The needle isn't moving on this one.
and so...
so no developper can make rooting possible on 5.3.2.1 and upper in the future ?

If it were that simple root would have been achieved on these builds long ago. Google and Amazon have closed vulnerabilities that made root exploits easy. While it's possible another weakness will be discovered the chances are quite low IMHO.
you are right , and if that damned bootloader was not locked......so only hopes remains
Is it possible to downgrade from 5.6.2.0 to 5.6.0.1. ?

You will need to find a 5.6.2.0 bin (source file). Check the 'debloating' threads as it's probably not directly downloadable via the Amazon support page; only the most recent build is referenced. Note: Amazon also maintains links to all prior builds. Just gotta find the url which is obscure.
Once you have the file it is simple to install via the stock recovery menu. Lots of documentation on that procedure in the Fire forums or via Google search.
Of course, you gotta decide if the benefit is worth the hassle. Probably not.
