Hello everyone!
So I have been having these battery issues since April security patch. the phone gets really warm to the touch even by doing the simplest of things like browsing and watching youtube. Android OS keeps the phone awake 80% of the time and I am only getting 2-3 hours of use throughout the day. Restored the phone to factory settings(fresh start, nothing restored) three days ago and still the same issue. Android OS drains the battery life even though I made sure that only google apps are installed on the phone.
But today things got even weirder. I disabled Google Now and location services as a test and the battery drain and heat issues were gone temporarily. I was getting a great battery performance from morning to afternoon. I check my battery stats and I notice that Google services mysteriously drained 17% of my battery life and that it's been running for 21 days straight? That's impossible since I just did a fresh reset to the phone three days ago. I rebooted the phone and that "Google services" drain changed to WiFi instead?! That's crazy!
I contacted Google store support team and they have been really helpful so far. They offered to replace the phone with a refurbished unit, but I don't think I am ready to give up on this phone just yet.
Thank you!

I hate to recommend this, but sometimes things go out of wack after a SW update, so a hard reset would probably be needed. I would try that (just start from zero) before jumping into a refurbished phone that might have some other kind of issues. Have you tried a hard reset yet? I see that you did a fresh reset. Did you go through the recovery though? Not just the regular UI. I think it's better to clear cache, and every thing through the recovery (custom or stock).

I did it through recovery. I have cleared the cache and rebooted the phone several times the past few days. Nothing seems to help at all.
Turn off your google backup.

Wow. Maybe a custom ROM might help? Have you tried that? That's the last thing I would do. Good luck!
Not recommended but I just flashed January vendor and ROM and that has helped my battery life. I. Believe it is the security updates that kill our battery.

Is it a widespread issue? Like I said in my post, I saw the decline ever since I got the April security update. The May patch actually managed to make things worse. There seems to be something hidden in the OS that it's draining the battery and causing the awake issues. I haven't tried rooting the device because I lack the experience to do so. I will probably look into it on these forums, but at this point I have tried everything.
Disabling Google now helped a lot and it exposed some sort of a glitch with the stock battery monitoring app. I am not sure if it's hardware or software, but it's certainly not normal. I am tempted to just replace it, but I am afraid that this issue will just plague the new one from Google. I am really disappointed How Google handles updates on this device. I always thought that stock android is most stable version of android, but the software on my old Xperia Z is actually more stable than this. It never had battery drain issues and standby battery life was always great. The battery life on Nexus 6P is actually worse than the Xperia Z even though that phone is 3 years old.

I've seen a lot of posts over the months with people having the same problem we are. I came from a mid range LG stylo with a snapdragon 610. I would have 8 hours screen on time daily. Its sad that goggle cant get the same out of their own hardware. Also I have seen that the Note 5 and S7 Edge both get better battery life as opposed to our stock phones. For as much as people praise stock and look down on Touchwiz, they are doing something right over there.
But it doesn't affect everyone and that what puzzles me. Only certain phones are hit by these issues, while other people are getting excellent battery life. I have seen plenty of people post screenshots of 6 hours+ of on screen time. I am lucky to get 3 hours. I think Google should really invest in creating a better power management system into Android. Companies like Sony and Samsung built their own and the battery life on their devices always perform predictably relative to what I am seeing on this phone. I have never witnessed The doze feature kick in since I have bought this phone. Sony had stamina mode since 2013 and it actually worked.

Most of those people posting those outrageous number root and do kernel tweaks. I've gotten at most 6 hours SOT on stock without root. You are right our phones do all react differently to certain circumstances. I don't know if it's feasible to you ,but you should try rooting and trying out a few Roms some help others don't. If you aren't into Roms and decide to root try earlier vendors and stock roms and see it those work. I'm not an expert by any means just my suggestions.

Well, the fact that you are having great battery life proves my point. It's either that the quality control of the batteries used on these phones are terrible, or that the software or kernel are corrupted from factory causing these issues. There is no way to fix them by hard reseting the phone so far. I am going to try to flash a stock rom on this device and see what happens. Thanks by the way.
1) Are you rooted? If not, at least do that and install BBS in order to track down what's eating your battery.
2) Probably we'll run into a common problem / bug the last two months.
After unplugging the phone, it seems that the wakelock *backup* runs constantly, does not let phone get into sleep, and runs in the background while using your phone causin battery to drain faster.
3) About battery life. Comparing battery results between two users it has no point, unless you really now his usage pattern. Not only the setup, but which apps of them used most etc.
For example Facebook app is real battery eater. I've seen an hour more SOT without this app.
I can give several examples like this.

I have very high demands when coming to a camera on a mobile and after analyzing the latest mobiles pictures I am as a photographer most impressed with Nexus 6P.
I have found a brand new copy of it for 350 euro.
But what makes me still not sure is the bootloop thing.
1) Does the bootloop problem comes after the phones age, is it caused by worn or is it caused by after an update?
2) I have root a few mobiles and always the camera has got a bit worse after installing CM/LOS/AOSP, is it the same with Nexus 6P? Is the camera best with the stock rom?
3) Are there any other problems with Nexus 6P that is very common?
AFAIK the bootloop is totally random - I have a 6P and never had it, but I was affected by the battery early death.
I'd look for newer phones.

LG V20 is cheap these days.
Moto Z.
If I didn't have a Nexus 6P, I would not buy one today.
There are too many alternatives.

The only two new phones that have better or same camera quality is Pixel and HTC U11, but their way too expensive.
V20 is like all other LG and Samsung camera, to much oversharp and unnatural colors.
There arent too many alternatives if you looking for a camera as good as Nexus 6P and with at least 5,5" display
Brand new? Not refurbished?
If it is actually brand new for 350 euro I would buy it. Yes there are alternatives but not at that price.
Basic stuff:
1) take care of the battery, don't let it go to zero (many of us had our phones replaced due to early battery death)
2) put a decent case on it, screen will crack if you drop it on a corner on a hard surface
I'm on my second 6p and I've not experienced the bootloop issue, but I did get early battery death on the first one.

Agreed. No better camera at this price and take care of battery. I have accubattery and battery repair app. After nearly a year, still 96% health. Don't charge over 90% and don't go below 20% if possible.

I'd say go for it great phone just recently picked up one and couldn't be happier.
I was wondering the same thing since I'm thinking about dropping Sprint for T-Mobile, but the Bootloop issue that we've all heard about has me extremely worried. Anyone recommending this phone (in the US specifically) in 2017?

What? You're joking? I never heard of any of these issues. Especially the bootloop which I JUST HAD on my LG G4! I got this phone as a replacement by a friend and it got the same issue? That's hilarious.
What's the battery thing? I can't let it go under 20%? That's rather annoying since this phone (as well as my LG G4) doesn't seem to have stellar battery life so I will as a hard user drop under 20% easily in a day. Is it really that serious?

Oh, I'm not questioning you. Just venting my frustration as well appreciating the humour coming from a device that had the exact same problems, and then got this device as a temporary replacement. Wonder if it's related to the Snapdragon 808/810, those SoC's weren't the best.
Could you tell me anything more about the battery issue? What is it exactly and is it common?

Well, I've only had the device since October last year and reading about the battery problems others have had on older devices, such as shutting down at 50% has got me a bit concerned. Just following xda charging advice. I've been on nougat, dp4 and now back on last stock marshmallow build because I miss Xposed. Battery life seems better and wakelock isn't showing any apps misbehaving. Just an average user willing to take whatever advice I come across.

Not sure how old this device I got is, but I'd guess at least one year. I'll guess I'll just have to see.
Where can I find the XDA charging advice, or is that just the one you posted, not above 96% and not below 20%. The last one is going to be tough since I suspect this device doesn't have stellar battery life so I'll easily dip below 20% in a day.
Which one is DP4? I'm on CarbonROM now (love the selection of ROMs for this device) because of it's excellent support for MicroG. About to try out Pure Nexus and LineageOS.
Isn't Xposed ready for Nougat now? Although I don't miss Xposed that much anymore after Magisk.

Not above 90%. Once in a while should be alright. Dp4 is the last beta of stock Android o. I usually stick to stock so I don't know much about custom roms. I use ex kernel for color profiles - can't stand stock yellowish tint. Xposed for nougat I tried. Before attempting to install any modules, other apps begin to crash. I don't know how much progress has been made since then but only a few modules work anyway. Only tried magisk to install system wide sound module once before but haven't used it since.
Hi All,
From Past 2 weeks... am Facing Phone Idle Battery Drain...
I have tried everything.... - Factory Resetting, etc....
The problem even persist in Safe Mode also...
Is it a Hardware issue ? or A Clean system Reflash might help ?
PS: My phone is not rooted.
For me after I'm uninstalling the snaptube, all it's turns normal... Maybe you use some app has draining your battery ?(software)

I also thought the same...But I didn't install any new apps other than Pixel Launcher.... And Now...I Uninstalled it.... Still facing the same problem.
I guess it is just the horrible LG software. I also experienced extreme battery drain in standby and could not figure out why.
I decided to flash the Resurrection Remix ROM onto my LG and look at that... Amazing battery life with the same usage and same apps installed.
My battery now drops 2% over night. With stock it was 9-10%.
I know it might not be the answer you are looking for. All I am saying is: maybe the Oreo update will help for Stock solutions.
There are reports out there that show amazing battery life with stock but they often disable a lot of services which in my eyes is not the purpose of a phone. Other than that... Try your luck with Greenify or something like that (could be hard to reach real results here without root though).

Hmm.... But I hav paid 760$ to buy this phone.... Why Should I settle for less ? If its a budget phone...then Ok...but this is a Flagship Device.... I am going to take this to Service Center. These Battey Problems are irritating me.
As far as I remember, that idle battery drain is known issue in Android 7.0 and our precious G6's have 7.0 and probably will never get 7.1 which has this problem fixed, LG rarely releases incremental updates, mostly only releases new devices with newer software (V30 has 7.1, Q6 also has 7.1 and their battery life is great).
7.0 bug causes "Phone Idle" thingy popping up in battery stats almost always on top, sucking up to 1000+mAh of battery in my case so I have to charge the phone almost every single day which is a little bit frustrating considering phone's battery and that it lies unused for around 8 hours every day as I have to leave my phone in locker room when I'm at work. This is the only thing that I hate in this phone.
We have to wait for Oreo... which also makes me a little bit nervous because 8.0 also has many bugs... Yes, 8.1 is right behind the corner but that strange LG update policy will probably halt our phones on 8.0...

Being able to have numerous apps for different purposes downloaded on your phone is what makes our smartphones so good. However, there may be a few that are resulting in rapid Android OS battery drain., without you even knowing about it.
Try These
Stay in Power Saving Mode
Reduce Display light
Try using the App Greenify, helps you identify which apps are causing battery drain, and put these into hibernation when you are not using them, to stop them from lagging your device and leeching the battery

Hello everyone,
Anyone observed a drastic loss of the battery capacity after only one year?
My Moto X Style has fallen from 4 hours screen to 2 in one year
Mine is 2 1/2 years old and it has held up remarkably well. I limit the use of quick charge to once or twice a week. Most days I charge it on my desk using an old 5W charger, and it stays waaay cooler than quick charging it. I don't know if that has made the difference or if I just got lucky, but a lithium ion battery not getting hot as often can't hurt.
The same for me! I used very few times the quick charge, but I had the same problem also with another Moto X Style bought before and substituted by the vendor with my actual one. This is strange, normally I use a 1A charger
My phone is over 1,5 year old and it has average battery life of 1 day with 3h of sot (reported by GSam) using 4g/wifi all the time so it's not that bad. I think it was better with standby times on 6.0. Also I use quick charge most of the time and I don't think it makes any difference.

Good luck with that. Have you ever unlocked your bootloader? If you have, the warranty is void but let me know how it goes. My battery is complete garbage but I've unlocked my bootloader so I'm SOL.
My condition is the same as yours, I barely get around 2hrs or SoT now, it's lesser with 4G turned on. It was ~3.5-4hrs before. I noticed the drastic drop in battery life, especially after the nougat update.
I'm waiting for the camera fix in Lineage 15.1 unofficial, I'm hoping I might get a bit better battery life with that. I don't flash ROMs that often, so I need something solid to use as my daily driver. Is there any solid ROM that I can update from my Nougat 7.0 stock??

The 4G issue may be radio related from the nougat update. I remember reading somewhere that the radio was more prone to battery drain in weak signal situations under nougat.
My Moto X Pure is almost 2 years old and the battery is pretty much useless now. Have to charge twice a day. I'm giving up. I have my eyes on the Nokia 7 Plus for its replacement.
Guys I returned back my phone and I got a refund. Better than I could ever think

The 4G issue may be radio related from the nougat update. I remember reading somewhere that the radio was more prone to battery drain in weak signal situations under nougat.

Okay. I didn't understand what you meant by 'radio related'. Do I need to keep my cellular 'preferred network type' to 2G? Will that bring about any difference?

No, it means since stock nougat on this phone, the radio hardware consumes more battery when the signal is poor. So if the phone is in bad network area, it would consume more battery than it did while on Marshmallow.
Skeptical...

Not sure I buy that. Do you have any hard numbers to back such a theory up?

I've only seen people's "experiences". But regardless, there has been a lot of discussion that the SD808 chip has always been more battery hungry when on weak signals than the SD810 and such. I can't verify with any hard numbers if nougat has made it worse or not.

No, I've simply made it descriptive what the above person didn't understand from the post above his. Didn't add any of my theories.

Thanks! This might be true, not sure about it. Definitely saw a drastic drop in the batt. life after the Nougat update though.
Eagerly waiting for the Lineage 15.1 camera to work. Not too hopeful but some people reported to have better batt. with the 15.1 in the Lineage thread.

I agree with the bit about the 808 not being the best chipset for power usage, but I'm highly skeptical about the version of Android having any kind of an impact on it. I feel that the spreading of these types of unsubstantiated myths doesn't do anyone any good.
Does anyone have any information on the progress of the v20 pie update?
I'm on a vs995 patiently waiting for the update but seeing no light..
Is the pie update just for the korean models or will it be for others in the future??
Thanks.

I never really expected it to come to the carrier version's of the v20 (vs995,H918,H910), but they could have at least did it for the US unlocked version US996.

I really hope it does.. Since others have been saying it improves battery life.. Oreo has really done a number on my battery.. My OEM battery gets roughly an hour under light load, I got to the point of where i made my own battery for my phone, i took the board from an old v20 battery and attached a 7000 mAh Li-ion battery to it to get at least 9 hours of heavy load.. i'd really love to see better life out of the battery and hopefully better system performance too

that is really off i get like 8 hours of medium use out of mine light use it goes 12 hours i just have a standard 4200 mAh battery and im on OREO...
I have it on my F800K, it's working fairly great. I even managed to root it.
We know that it's possible to crossflash with LGUP developer edition. If someone that is confortable with all of that (and knows how to go back if a brick happens) is motivated to test that out, it'd be neat.
I can't since I only own a Korean one.

Both of my H910 lasted all day on Oreo
8 hours at work no problem.
And we're even better after getting the perfine 4200 batteries.

Oreo came several months after it was supposed to. I'm giving it until summer 2020. If not by then, then I'll throw my hands up and say that it won't come.

Can you please tell me how to root?
Thanks a lot!

It's a fairly involved process. You have to downgrade to Nougat using LGUP, root using DirtySanta and then upgrade back up to Pie without flashing aboot and abootback (using LGUP "developer edition" in PARTITION DL mode). Finally you have to flash the correct Kernel.
Only issue so far is that the camera can't autofocus anymore. I do not take pictures with that phone so I don't care, but could be a deal breaker for you.
I'm not sure yet if it's a Kernel issue or a root issue. I need to re-downgrade and upgrade again without root to make sure the camera works with the same Kernel but without root.
I might make a detailed guide when I get the chance.

They have a new battery out that is a 4380 milliamp hour battery. I'm using it now with Alpha Oreo 1.3.1 with MK 2000 2.2 kernel. Using greenify. And a fresh install a few days ago. Battery life looks even better than it was.
i just got a perfine battery first 100% to 18% charge lasted me almost 2 full days

Do you have a link to the new Perfine battery please? I stocked up on their 4200mah's - I have 3 in rotation and 3 new ones in the drawer - I'll keep using the V20 for watching media while travelling when I eventually get a new daily driver. I get 6-8 hours SOT over 36-48 hours on Nougat.
I jumped from the V20 to the A71 . I added a 4000 battery in the V20 , but she is stock still on 8... ill see what plops down but its a good back up phone !! still works fine ..

I normally charge to 85% with charge limiter. That generally gets me through from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. normally about 20% by the time I go to sleep

Sorry, I must've mis-read your previous post - I thought it was a larger capacity battery made by Perfine - phew, I thought I was going to have to buy some more!
