I have a strange problem!
I have an O2 XDA II, (unlocked), original ROM (1.03 USA), which I'm using with a UK Vodafone SIM. This works fine in the UK, however I am currently in the US trying to roam, without any luck. The automatic network selection does not connect to any network. Using manual network selection, I can select the T-mobile network, which it connects to, with good signal strength, but if I try to make or receive a call it does not work. It also loses the connection altogether after a few minutes. (This SIM works fine in the US in my Motorola tri-band phone). However, if I use my wife's US T-mobile SIM in the XDA II instead of mine, it works fine!
Any ideas?? All help would be gratefully appreciated!
Paul
phone networks must have agreements to let users roam
Vodafone certainly have a roming agreement with T-mobile in the US - I've been using this SIM in a triband phone in the US for years.
Paul
well are you talking about roaming of grps ?
because there are not as many agreements when it comes to grps as there is when it comes to std phone
No, just roaming GSM voice!

I have the UK model. I have it for three days in the USA and I use the AT&T sim card. It connects on EDGE and it is not a 3g phone in the USA. I use WIFI for my internet.
My question is: How can I get the phone to stop looking for a GPRS connection and giving me the error screen? I understand there is a loop of connectivity GPRS => EDGE => 3g and when 3g is not compatible it connects on edge.
Ok fine. But how can I get rid of that GPRS connection error screen?
The phone is like WOW! Get one. I will get a Verizon MIFI for Christmas from my wife
Hi,
I recently bought a HTC Surround (AT&T), im from Costa Rica and we don't have AT&T as a carrier.
The phone works great with the GSM band but when i try to look for any 3G settings (using 850Mhz band) i cant find any options.
According to an article in the internet (i cant post any links yet) there should be an option called "Mobile Network" where i can turn the 3G on or off, so im guessing AT&T disabled the option (phone doesn't have any 3G sign on the sign bar at the top just the antenna bars).
Is there any way to Unlock the 3G options on this phone?
Thank you.
Help me out a little with your request. The place to turn on/off data is under cellular in the settings page. However, I haven't found "Mobile Network" on mine. However, I did download HTC Connection Setup which allowed the phone to search for various carriers and automatically set up the connections. That program is in Marketplace under HTC apps.
BTW, is your phone SIM unlocked?
Thank you for answering ...Sure ill help you with what ever you need... we might be able to narrow down my problem... lets see
1. HTC connection: yea i tried the app actually i have it installed on my phone but its giving me a message saying "Carrier doesnt exist in the data base" that i need to go a create apn (isnt that for phone internet). so i cant use the application, our carrier here is called I.C.E.
2.The band Costa Rica is using for 3G is the 850MHz. my SIM card is linked to a GSM account (1900 MHz) but the phone should be able to recognize the band tho, isnt that right?
3.how do i know if my phone is sim lock? i just placed my GSM SIM card inside and its working, do i need to try with a different card?
4. how does 3G works in this phone? is it configurable?
I'm pretty sure you are going to have to configure an APN for it to use 3G. As for band switching, I don't think it's possible with the current interface (at least on AT&T). Perhaps there are some registry entries that we will soon be able to access when some of the WP7 developers make headway, but right now, there is nothing of which I'm aware. If you can call on your network, the phone is already SIM unlocked, so no need to worry there.
I found some nice info about switching 3G or 2G etc... which it helps but i think it didnt work on mine.
Does anyone know how to set the HD7 (or surround) to 3G only?
Dialer> ##3282# Call > Settings > 3G only.
But in my case what i saw after that was that all the antenna bars were gone and then it went into no service then picked up signal again. After checking the settings after dialing again it was set to automatic again and if a switch it to 3G only it does the same thing again.
So im guessing it didnt work, ill try to talk to my carrier and see if we can create an APN to handle the 3G.
Is there a chance that the 3G feature is locked by AT&T?
Thanks for all your help if by any chance you find out something else i will appreciate the help.
Well apparently i got it fixed my phone seems to be working on 3G right now, i have the 3G sign on the top bar.
To make the story short.
I just configured my internet, added the roaming options and then tried again ##3282# only 3G and it worked now its showing 3G next to the antenna bars.
Thank you jwzg for your help.
Can not change the language

Hi. If your SIM card is old (GSM) add APN: icecelular. If your SIM card is new (Kolbi), add APN: kolbi3g

No, you don't have to do any special configuration. I think TMobile bands for 3G are different frequencies from ATT, so sadly, I think you are never going to be able to have 3G connection on your Surround while you are on TMobile. Regards.
mmmmm tmobile used different bands
mmmmm input to sim movistar in htc, rigth in connection setup appers to configuracion of Nicaragua chance to Costa Rica and input sim ice connection don´t exist in data base... :-( mms is not working!!!
Hi guys,
Was wondering if you could help with something.
I am in Bolivia at the moment and working out in a remote town with little WiFi.
The phone network ENTEL here sells '4G' dongles (hdpsa+ hupsa actually)* with unlimited data for no money at all so I picked one up. Plugged it into a computer, installed the software and it connected and works great.
However when I tried to put the SIM from my dongle in my Galaxy S2 it will not work. Just says emergency calls only and does not seem to connect to anything. I have enabled packet data and apn settings seem present.
With the same phone as a test I took a normal ENTEL sim card (not from dongle) and this connected to network and EDGE data and I was able to access websites etc over mobile internet no worries (although it costs a lot).
I'm sure none of you will be familiar with the Bolivia phone networks but perhaps on basic principals you can help. IE why doesn't my dongle simcard work in my phone for data?
Thanks so much in advance.

If it's.like it is here in Costa Rica then the SIM cards used for the data dongles are coded for just that and can't be used in phones... Mainly because usage plans.are different they won't allow anyone to use it for data on phones whose plans data plans are twice as much.
Now if that's not the case there then it's probably hardware related such as in frequencies... The dongle SIM may be for a different radio band than what you're phone can pick up
My home 3g wifi modem stopped working 6 months ago so I now use my old galaxy s as the modem. The sim is data only that's meant for a dongle / pocket wifi but it works fine. Just had to enter the virgin broadband apn and that was it. The sim is a 3g sim and the phone is unlocked.
Never tried a 4g sim though. Very good chance the 4g uses a different network frequency than the phone supports. But I would think a 4g sim should still connect to the 3g/H/Edge frequencies.

I've got my contract EE SIM and Three UK Pay as You GO. When I tried to connect EE with data it connected properly but my Three UK SIM lost the connection. When I switch to data from Three UK it connects and EE still works. Three UK is 3G,4G SIM only mode and it doesn't support GSM. I tried to swap the SIM slots but it doesn't change the situation. Anyone knows the solution?
I'm using this phone on Three UK. The data didn't work at first but that was because mobile data is disabled by default on the stock rom for some reason.
Does the Three sim work for you on it's own? Bizarrely, calls and texts still worked even though the internet didn't even though Three is, as you say, a VOIP only network.
Seems that the update in some way has problem on the radio especially for the 4G : on 4G provider only 3G network is used
did you checked in the engineer mode if some bands haven't been disabled since the last update ? I'm in France using the Orange network and it work on 3g and 4g. Also on the update you have to search for the mobile network once more and select the correct one. I have to say it didn't worked at first for me, switching airplane mode again and again did the trick !

Thanks, nn the engineer mode I have not see any problems, but in the build.prop in the system I have not saw any think related to the LTE network.
No chance I have tried to connect to Orange FR network setting only LTE as band , but the phone could not even to connect to voice network. Other user on the web claim that this happens after the upgrade to the new stock rom
