Nexus 6 reign supreme. have a look. - Nexus 6 General

I was reading this article when suddenly Nexus 6 comes to dominate with its dual front speakers and kills the Pixel traitor
just watch the video!

You can't compare our speaker phone issue with what Pixelers are going through.
Keep calm and Nexus 6!

I'm so glad I didn't pull the trigger on the overpriced dead pixel, after Google killing the Nexus line when my Shamu kicks the bucket I'll be getting a Oneplus, maybe if the Pixel bombs really hard Google will bring back the Nexus? ?

I am going the 1+ route myself, as soon as Nexus 6 becomes a burden. It's tough though when you see support for Nexus 4 with 7.1.1 on XDA. These days the more you pay for a premium device higher the chances to get screwed. Note 7 pixel.

The Pixel is more than a speakerphone. I own the Nexus 6, Nexus 6P and Pixel XL. While the pixel XL lacks stereo speakers I really don't miss them but I must say the speed, smoothness and fluidity as well as battery life of the Pixel is unparalleled, combined with daydream features. I'm really enjoying it. The Nexus 6P is still holding its own and is well worth it at current prices. My wife still uses the Nexus 6 and I upgraded to latest nougat update and is working well though the battery is starting to show its sign of obsolescence after two+ years. Still a good phone though it struggles at times.

Between this and the Nexus 6 speakerphone issue Google is really FAILING HARD at their software. Thank God for the awesome development community!

It really is not a surprise that the software would seem faster and more fluid on "Googles" device. Kinda like Apple/IOS Samsung/Tizen and the list goes on. I'll be interested to see how it is holding up in 2 years. Not that I would get one. Google killed it when they turned it into a less then dev friendly device.
Ill be on the look out for a new OEM in a few years when my nexus finally dies. (software will die sooner then the device I think)

Nexus 6p or the Pixel XL!!

Hey!
I've sold my Note 7 and I am looking to buy a new one the Nexus 6p or the Pixel XL.
considering the battery life!
another question I know the Nexus 6P come with 3GB of RAM while the Pixel XL come with 4GB.
Is there a big difference?
thanks,
Can't really compare the battery lives of these devices since the Pixel XL isn't out yet. It does have a bigger batter than the 6p though, so it might have better battery life. Too soon to tell though.
Tbh I doubt there is going to be much difference between the two in terms of eveyday performance! I'm using my nexus 6P now and is still super smooth and rapid at loading things. The only thing you will get with the Pixel XL is google assistant out of the box, and guaranteed updates for 2+years. However devs are currently working on porting google assistant to the 6p.
My view is you can get the 6p for probably £300 new. Or you can get the XL for £719 new. Do you think that the google assistant is worth £419?

It doesn't have a bigger battery. It has the exact same battery size 3450 mAh. What it does have is a smaller screen and a more efficient SOC. Google says battery life is 40% better but we will have to wait for actual reviews.
It's all about the money. The 6P costs half the price of the Pixel.
if you dont care about the front facing speakers and the 5.7' screen then get the pixel xl (but this will cost you alot more).
i have purchased my 6p only some month ago, and i am loving every bit of it, the 3gb ram is good enough , the front facing speakers sound awesome and the screen is beautiful.
plus there is nougat, i have tried Nougat on it and holy smokes it is so snappy, felt 2-4x snappier than Marshmallow, but i am back on marshmallow for now because i am waiting for the custom roms to put more features in their Nougat builds.
you honestly cant go wrong with either of these phones, but if your budget is low , even if it is not you cannot go wrong with a 6p, it is an amaaazing phone.
i knew the Pixel XL was coming, but when i found out that it had no front facing speakers and a 5.5' screen it was already set what phone i was gonna get, and that was the 6p.
and i love my 6p <3
edit: about your battery life worries, the 6p will easily get you 4-6hours of screen on time and that is great.
you wont get much more out of the pixel xl, maybe 10% more.

Had my 6P for a year.
No issues with BT.
I'd go with the 6P anyday, as you CAN BUY TWO 6P'S for the price of XL.
But, I think Google will do everything to bury the Nexus sooner, so you're more future-safe with the XL.
I like the 6P more because of the better looking design, bigger screen, thickness, stereo speakers and it just seems it's better built by what I've seen on YT.
And it's twice cheaper.
6P or bust! Unless, u like the XL fewnewest features and the price...

(Video) Speed/RAM comparison against Nexus 6p

I made video on how the Pixel XL compares against the Nexus 6p in terms of speed and multi-tasking. From what I see so far, the Pixel is much faster overall, but the Nexus 6p still puts up a good fight!

Yep! Loving my Nexus 6p especially with preview 7.1.1. I as the phone really flies with better battery manager and now better camera shutter response thanks to updated Google camera all.
I returned Pixel XL as the changes were incremental and not worth the price IMHO.

Yeah, the price was really tough to swallow for me. However, when you eat, sleep, and breath phones, like I do... you gotta dish it out. I actually would not recommend to most people that people upgrade from a 6p.
Nexus 6p is a great device but pixel beat it, which wasn't surprising. But the pixel looks better in every way. I'm happy with my purchase.

What's Next After The 6P?

So to those of you who are still using this phone, what's your next jump? S8 S8+... Pixel 2, other?
I've really enjoyed this phone, but it's time to start thinking about the next upgrade. Oddly, I didn't actually unlock & root this phone. I think this is the first time I haven't done that with a phone. So that's not huge to me.
I personally think the Pixel 2 may be the next jump as I do enjoy the non bloatedness of these phones. I hope though that Google (as much as they charge) competes really well. With the S8 & iPhone 8 coming they have to.
Have any of you thought about your next phone from this one? Are you sticking with this one as long as you can & feel you'll be able to get a replacement that compares? I know for me, the whole buying this from Google & the price was a big factor. Unfortunately the price thin isn't going to happen again. The $475 I paid for this I fear is long gone unless I venture outside of the norm. OnePlus, LeeEco, Huawei, etc. Having Verizon though pretty much limits any of those options however.
it's too early to talking about next phone but between phone in store right now I interested to "moto z force", sadly just exclusive to the US market via Verizon and I'm not living in US! ?
Still very happy with the 6P. I'll probably keep using it as my main phone at least until the end of the year. Will mostly consider OnePlus and Pixel 2 when I'm ready to replace the 6P.

I think more and more the top of the line phones are just not necessary anymore. Once my 6p dies (which may be a while as I got a brand new replacement from them for the bootloop issue) I'll consider the Pixel 2 (or 3), but most likely I'll lean towards oneplus, or ZTE, or Honor, all of which have had great phones this year, for much less than the pixel.
Any phone that gives me a SD and fast updates.
It's time for Google to stop the no SD card crap.
I don't know if that's going to happen with the no SD thing. This is where I could see getting the S8 vs the Pixel 2 just to lower the price. 32GB phone then buy the card. Hell with all of the goodies Best Buy throws in I'd almost bet on some sort of freebie or two. Whether a wireless charger, SD card or VR headset. I can see something.
I bet the oneplus 4 or 5 or whatever they call it will be pretty good. I just wish more phones could be taken to Verizon. Leaves me with only a few options.

I'm holding out for the Pixel 2 myself, I have Project Fi so its practically the only choice I have for upgrading. I just hope it has some premium features like legit water resistance and a better looking design. I also hope they have enough in stock that I can order one because doubt my Nexus 6P will last that long around then.
Nothing thus far. The 6P already does everything I need to in addition to the large 3450 mAh battery, great screen, and awesome speakers.
Don't think shelling out a few hundred dollars is worth it for under the hood specs that I would barely notice like opening an app milliseconds faster. It's not like my 6P is unable to do what the newer gen phones can do.

That "large" battery is one of the worst in recent smartphone history.
I'll be jumping ship to the s8+ and maybe come back to Google when they don't try and sell a budget phone for a stupid price like with the Pixel.
The only thing I'll miss from the 6p is the speakers.

The 6P battery has been excellent to me, I can't speak for anyone else. It compares to my Droid Turbo that had a 3900 mAh battery. It could be "worse in history" to you, but it has been nothing short of stellar to me. It has absolutely exceeded my expectations given that I've read mixed reviews regarding the SD810.

I have an iPhone 7 plus as well as my nexus 6p, and it is actually ridiculous how much longer the 7 plus lasts. I feel like I can drain my 6p just by looking at it. The real problem with android is idle drain, it is freaking ridiculous.

That's a shame. Products aren't always perfect for everyone. There's always those with bad experiences such as with cars, electronics, etc. I'm talking based on MY experience, not from what I've read, heard, seen, etc. I KNOW based on my experience that I can rely on my phone being at 50% by bed-time, so there's no reason for me to complain about that.
Maybe your next phone will fare better for you.

Sounds like you're platform agnostic like me Best way to be. Too much good tech out there to get caught in fanboyism
We've thought about waiting for the iPhone 8. The wife & I have yet to own an iPhone. Her only thought was she already has so many Android apps. I'm kind of the same where I don't want to dump a bunch of $ on a new platform. Get the S8 or Pixel 2 & I've already got the apps I use & have paid for.

Ya, I try to keep an open mind. I wish my pocket book could handle it though lol. Honestly I loved my LG g4, just hated the battery life. I'm kind of finding the 5.5" screen size around my liking. The only thing I hate about the s7 edge is how curved the sides are. It sounds like the s8's will have less of a curved screen. The pixel XL always send to be out of stock in the 128gb version.

Next Generation of Nexus 6P?

I think the Nexus 6P is still a pretty awesome phone. But just for my future "planning" is there any phone just out or will be out that is noticeably better than the 6P in more than a couple of categories? I dont mind staying with Google and also dont mind if it doesnt have the VR feature, not a big deal to me for that. Mostly memory, processing, screen, sound and reliability/robustness. Being waterproof is the last cherry on top/tiebreaker.

- The linear upgrade from the 6P is the Google Pixel XL.
- The smart (at least for 2 year update cycle people) upgrade from the 6P is the incoming Google Pixel 2 XL
The Pixel XL doesn't have stereo speakers so if you're a fan of this...upgrade directly to the Pixel 2 XL.
Regarding water proof...you will know about the existence of this.... on October 4th when it is unveiled.

Dang pretty high price points and it seems they will be water resistant.
Thanks! I think I will keep my 6P for a while, have better things to spend my $$$ on, like bills LOL.
Yes. Prices are too high considering they generally provide 2 years of updates.
For that price is better the iPhone 7 Plus probably will get 3-4 more years of updates.
My iPhone 5S is already 4 years old and was just updated to iOS 11 which in my opinion work faster than iOS 10. But I don't like iOS for everyday usage.

I went back to a 6P around 5 months ago after having gone through 4 from Google (lots of faulty units) I had been using a 6s Plus/ Oneplus 3 for a couple of weeks too. I've come to the conclusion that the 6P is, for the price, still the best option for most people! I rooted mine and put a fairly clean Rom on it, put a new battery in and it flies! It does most things very fast and the battery lasts me all day.
However, if the Pixel 2 is a big upgrade, I will probably get it because I'd rather be on stock software and a bit better battery life.
Same for the 5X...
For the price you can get a 5X (like 230€ at the moment), you can't get a phone with that camera photo quality. Photo quality is the same as with the 6P or Pixels.
Now, if you also add to this deal good performance, good fingerprint unlock and, the best, Oreo and few more years of security updates. It becomes even better deal. Despite the bootloops after big OTA updates.
Performance is not that behind the 6P. I have both phones. Pixel is the right upgrade for perf.
I was thinking to upgrade my 6p but pixel xl or pixel 2 xl prices are crazy. My mind is going towards Oneplus 5

Pixel 4, euro edition
To me it's just, Pixel 4 or Pixel 5/6. I don't have any other replacement for my Pixel 2.
Though I'm starting to consider moving into a custom rom. I'm a bit tired of Google adding so many services to Android. I don't want that much AI in my life. I love 50% of the features they have (like At Glance, Google Feed), but I don't use the other 50%.
In every Android version if they saved like 5% battery life, they added new services that consume 6% of it. So they never truly improved in that area. But now they will have to, because they need to maintain Pixel 4 working fine for at least 3 years.
IPhone 11 pro.. After 8 years of Android...
The Pixel 4 is awesome. My battery last all day. The Radar is pretty sick ! I feel like many of the reviews are extremely bias. Squeeze works extremely well. All around its a dope phone. I feel like Google did extremely well and the poor reviews are mostly nonsense. To speak to the small battery it doesn't really matter. I feel like Google is trying to actually solve battery problems as opportunity to grow and not just slapping big battery's in a phone. It's also half smart to release Solo on a device to the XDA community. Let's be real here most of the software innovations in Android happened right here with Cyanogen XDA and a hand full of Devs that the blathering reviewers look at as features that did not exist let alone main stream before XDA before Android. Face unlock works in the dark, in the ****ing dark.
To late already got a pixel 4 and love it.

Same, Pixel 4 Oh So Orange
I'm waiting till Black Friday to see about giving my wife my Pixel 3a XL and getting a new phone. It will likely be a Pixel 4 XL (if the sales are just stupid crazy) or a Pixel 3 XL. If neither of those are compelling enough, she'll likely just get a Pixel 3a and I'll keep the 3a XL.
So I'll definitely be getting another Pixel phone, it's just depends on which one offers the best deal.
I have a PIxel 4 and it is GREAT. Is there any purpose to this thread?
i got the pixel 4 for free but if it cant fix the battery life for me im going to be using my pixel 3xl for sure and give this to a family member or something. i usually always have the XL line but my 2xl is still running good and the battery is still better than the 4.
I got an 11 Pro instead of the Pixel. After a week of random problems I had enough so it's between 4 and 4XL for me. None of the reviews mention how the Pro's wide angle is a gimmick except maybe for video.
hello,
i have pixel 4 from 5 days, prev pixel 2, my wife has pixel 3.
Unfortunately, battery it's worse than pixel3, give me aprox 3,5 SOT, Total 12h live, motion radar off, 90hz off, dark theme on....
