Hey!
I have recently encountered a problem with the phone's GPS signal. It manages to find GPS signal but it takes forever and it even loses it frequently. Location services through mobile data and wifi are functioning properly. Has anyone faced similar problems?
I'm currently using stock B584 with bootloader unlocked.
The GPS didn't work on any lollipop build and neither on sokobans B574 rom, so I'm out of ideas. Any help?
Here is a screenshot which describes the problem well. By the way I am not using a protection case.
Doesn't seem like a common problem as people have no clue to fix it.. I guess it's time to throw the phone against the wall and replace it with a new one. Never Huawei again... xD
Maybe the cause is case? See https://forum.xda-developers.com/p8lite/accessories/aluminium-bumper-case-low-gps-signal-t3212884
Sadly, no. I contacted Huawei and visited a local store. It's most likely a hardware problem according to them. I guess I should send the phone to warranty.
Same here GPS going when on a journey
Don't bother sending it for repair I had mine replaced with a new one and it's just as bad

I'm on my third G1. The first one died to some strange graphics issue where the screen would go completely pixilated and wacky on me. I think the graphics processor was overheating. On the second one the touch screen died about the same time the speaker in started buzzing during calls.
Luckly because TMobile extends your warranty 90 days every time you get a new phone, I've only had to pay for shipping. I got the latest one, and immediately installed Cyanogen 4.2.5 on it. No problems. Then I followed Michael Mayhew's instructions for the maps update to get Navigation.
I can't get the GPS to work at all. I've since tried going back to RC29, or the base Cyanogen 4.2.5 without the maps hack. I've tried other GPS applications such as the Chartcross GPSTest. I can't get a read at all on any of them. I don't know if it was working before the updates, because I never tried to use maps before I installed the mod.
So I'm wondering somehow a radio update was applied that broke this phone, or if there is anything I can do to change the gps drivers around. Anyone with similar GPS failure issues?
I don't really want to return this one as I've only had it one day!
Yes, similar issues. No solution thus far. I also did not test GPS before flashing. OOPS?!? And now it no longer works, but I can't tell if that was the case to begin with.
I followed the same procedure (CM 4.2.5, Navigation mod), and had the same result--broken GPS. "My Location" not working, "Searching for GPS" forever, etc.
So two possibilities I can see:
1) hardware problem w/GPS
2) one or a combination of CM 4.2.5 + Nav = broken GPS
I have seen a few people on these boards say their GPS doesn't work all of a sudden. In fact, there are stock Droid owners with issues.
Can anybody chime in?
Hmmm
So for about 10 minutes on Friday it started working again. Totally random, I have no idea why. I was at a party and decided to see if it was working. All of a sudden I had signal (using GPSTest) and google maps found my location.
I've since tried it several times, rebooting, and doing a bunch of other stuff. I can't get it working again. Total fluke! So frustrating!
Well now the new version of google maps is in the market. I've successfully installed that one but still no GPS.
Im having the same issue on my G1 right now. Sorry for the Zombie thread, but did this ever get resolved?
I've had the gps fail on my phone and others I know have also. The g1 seems to have issues with the gps antenna strip breaking internally so one minute you'll have reception, the next.. nothing. Only solution is to find a new antenna strip and replace it (good luck!)
Aside from possible hardware failures, the GPS units on these phones tend to be very weak. Sometimes it *IS* impossible to get a strong enough signal to lock on, even when out in the open if there is something nearby that can reflect the GPS signals.
However note that these are AGPS devices, which means that with a cell connection and a data connection, and given that google knows the coordinates of the cell tower you are connected to, it is able to load assistance data (almanac + accurate time synchronization via NTP), and this will *GREATLY* improve your chances of getting a good lock and greatly reduce the time it takes.

I doubt that it was the GPU overheating. Your phone would burn your hand if it got that hot.
The in-call buzzing could be corrected by shifting the screen a little bit while it is happening. It is related to GSM interference with the speaker. The speaker is literally playing the radio waves emitted by the phone. The touchscreen issue was probably a broken cable... also related to moving the screen.

What radio version are you running?
I've also had no luck getting a GPS signal ever since I installed hacked navigation... I wonder if that's the problem? Has anyone tried removing the hacked navigation, to see if that solves the problem?
BTW, the problem started on CM 4.1 with EBI0 radio (2.22.19.26I), and still persists with CM 5.0.7... Has anyone tried upgrading their radio to 2.22.23.02? How about the folks that have gone back to the Updated Rogers EBI1 Radio (3.22.26.17)?
I have been having the "searching for gps" problem as long as I can remember (although I just got this phone a month or two ago)....I remember trying to install the hacked navigation or something so maybe that messed it up?...this phone was never opened, and I would hate to have to open it up to see if it is a hardware issue because I may not put it back as it was. IDK what to do, I even started a thread about it and tried every solution I could find and nothing worked for me....
I wish someone could chime in here with some insight...but it is also nice to hear others with this issue and their advice/ideas also...
Has anyone tried un-rooting and returning the phone back to complete stock and wiping everything ? has that worked for anyone?
Hi there, i've got strange problem with my HTC HD2 last night. Before 17.01.2012 everything was working fine..
So it's the story:
AS everyday i plugged my hd2 to pc to charge up battery and i went to sleep. Next day when i woke up, i realised that my hd2 has frozen(?). I mean i needed to take off the battery and put it back to reset it what was strange bcoz it happened 1st time to me. After reset my signal started to behave strange. I hadnt signal for almost whole time [never happened before to me] or just 1 line for a while. It was very sonwy outside so i thought it's bcoz of weather. When i went to school still had signal problems [weather was ok already], tho i could make a call to a friend, but i cant send any text-message since morning. Atm i have same problem like during morning @ home [weather is still fine..]. Tried to update radio, made hardreset on my android, and finally installed back my windows mobile rom, nothing helped.
Did anyone encounter with simillar problem with hd2? If yes how did you solve it (if you managed to.)
ps.
soz for bad eng/grammar
i suppose you are running Windows on your HD2?...i have not experienced signal issues on my HD2, but i have experienced constant freezes. since you have already reflashed your HD2, i suspect the problem is more of a hardware issue. Have you tried another SIM card and see if the signal is ok?. It might be your SIM card, or the SIM connection. If that doesnt work, im afraid its the antenna that is faulty. You can replace your antenna or send it for repair in this case. Meanwhile, if you dont have a spare phone, you might want to use some wifi based call apps(skype, etc).
hope this helps and good luck mate!
-cheers
Is it anything like this thread is talking about i.e likely to be a hardware problem:

do you happen to have the real link?
i would be quite interested in it since i am facing similar problems right now
Hi everyone!
I bought a used N4 off ebay and received it last week .. I have yet to get any sat locks. I read about aGPS not working with LTE and since I did the LTE mod. I decided to try the latest radio and I still dont get any locks *aGPS worked*. I went on a hour long drive yesterday and not once did I get a lock with the latest radio. I changed my NTP server to a US based one. I also tried several different kernels *including stock* each with a full wipe in between
Anyone have any ideas for me to try?
I was told the back was replaced so I wonder if that may be causing a issue? also have a issue with my wifi range that I'll make a separate thread for.
Thanks for at least reading!
Ebay listing said this "This phone has a replacement back glass WITHOUT wireless charging or NFC capabilities." which I dont really care about just want to be able to use gps , HTC ONE s and Sensation had awesome GPS maybe im just spoiled

Did you try another rom or even revert to stock to get off of LTE?
Edit: I am on LTE and I get sat locks without an issue. Maybe the you are missing the antennaes for gps as well?
Going back to complete stock
Using this guide : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2010312
I'll test the gps on my way home from work in a few minutes.
Hoping it will work.
Using bone stock rom/kernel/ect. I was able to get a lock in at 10 meters in the parking lot but when I started driving it lost gps signal and then was like 120 meters *aGPS*.... so I'm going with my gps chip may be defective or the back that this guy used is interfering with the gps signal.
Also I noticed while running maps all the way home with GPS enabled/running it got real hot on the upper middle back of the phone , right next to the camera. Way hotter then it does if im playing games for a hour+
My regular phone reception is good though its probably a little stronger then my HTC One S.
Anyone have any ideas I should try?
Hi there,
I have a D801 I bought this summer in the US and recently I'm having problems with the GPS. I got it with stock LP, and I think back then it was working fine. Then, I started testing different roms, and at some point it broke. I guess it is a software problem, but I don't know how to fix it (I search in each rom's thread but it should be working ok).
I'm currently using this ROM http://forum.xda-developers.com/tmobile-g2/development/rom-tmo-lp-extreme-v1-0-4-16-15-t3084681
Software details: http://imgur.com/GhqDN9D
I have tried fasterGPS (to set it for Spain) https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.fastergps&hl=en and GPS Status https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.eclipsim.gpsstatus2&hl=en but it takes forever to lock into a satellite (1/26), and even then it is not able to get the correct location in Google Maps (tried outdoors in several places already).
Any help? Any additional info you may need?
Thanks in advance!
i think most people who have had problems with the GPS on this phone have given up. the GPS is just flaky to non functional. There is a mod out there where you raise the antennae pins to contact the case using something to shim them. that might or might not help. I did it on my LS-980. I also did it on my Samsung Note i717 and it solved it.
I think part of the equation is software related. I updated my rom to Dirty Unicorns and my GPS was working most of the time. but when it refused to lock, nothing could make it. on stock, I had a weird condition where the GPS would work only if my phone was in 3g mode, not LTE. However, when my phone got stuck in 3g mode, would never switch back to LTE without turning off and on mobile data. I am currently back to stock but my GPS doesn;t work.

Nice... Then I'll give a look at that tutorial. I was hoping to fix it by flashing some radios/basebands or the likes, but we seem to be on the same boat. It is not that I use GPS that much, but I didn't expect such problems in a previous flagship phone. Anyways, thanks for your help :good:

Don't get your hopes up on that tutorial. GPS is notoriously bad on G2. So many people have problems. Mine doesn't work at all and I gave up like the previous poster said. Not a big deal for me except when I'm trying to use Uber!

Well, I finally had the time to try the antenna hack (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dfS4LpfcLfg) and it went from locking to none to locking to 12 out of 20 sats. Finally I can be happy this phone (also running CloudyG2 btw). We'll see how long does it last though...
Thank you all!
Here's a weird situation, just recently used the TOT method to restore my phone back to stock, and after installing the updates to bring me to zvh, my gps is working again. Still a little flaky but mostly working.

Hi Guys,
I am on stock with February security update.
I am experiencing issues to get a GPS Fix and easily loose it again. If the conditions are not perfect (being in a forest, in a car, etc.) I sometimes don't even get a fix. In the car the GPS fix is lost regularly.
I tried the obvious things like resetting agps data and downloading new agps data, restarting the device, etc.
I feel like it got worse with the February update.
Anyone experiencing a similar issue or is there even a fix for it?
Thanks in advance,
Robin
Same here , no gps fix and location services goes to battery saving mode automatically :/
I am on march update but facing this since feb update
The problem for me is when I am using GPS and Google Maps: everythings works but in the case I receive (or I make) a call GPS immediately stop to work loosing its signal. Maybe situation improve if I disable Bluetooth connection (in the car I pair Mi A1 with Bluetooth)
Very annoying problem

It's a shame, had hoped it would be fixed with the March update. When I turn off the screen, it becomes worse (probably battery saving). Thanks for the quick reply.
This is really strange as for me GPS is acting more than perfect. I have satellite fixes even on really really partial sky(sometimes none at all)view. From several years now I've always been using GPS Status & Toolbox app from the Gstore. It has always been on my phones acting in background when GPS is needed. I don't really know if it's because of it or just a lucky device but i have never had any other device with GPS reception like this. You can check if you are getting all satellite navigation systems that our SoC can understand (GLONASS, GPS, BeiDou)... the mention app above can show it... and you can also check it through the service menu (altho i don't know the code to bring it up)
I'm also using it with calls and attached bluetooth device(with calls in car) and never had a problem....

It's happening the same to me since February. Now I'm with March patch and i have the same problem.
Today I'm gonna try restarting the phone
Sent from my Mi A1 using Tapatalk
I had reset twice and it looks like it's working normally

So, the reset solved it?
Gps
Anyone had any joy with this mine is same cuts out and poor to stay connected. If I do *#*#6484#*#* and run GPS test it fails. Tried my friend mi A1 and same, this is on stock ROM
I'm having this issue as well, any solutions?

I've got the same issue. I've downloaded GPS Status & Toolbox and it shows "looking for GPS" without connecting. Anyone have solved the problem without rooting the phone?
I have a rugged case and it blocks part of the GPS signal. It may be a similar problem. Other thing that I have noticed, and may well be placebo, is that pinching the upper right corner of the phone sometimes solves GPS fix issues. It is as if the GPS antenna made a bad contact because the corner was a little bit opened.
Pinching corner was a serious issue for Galaxy S3. The problem was couple of screws loosen and thus bad gps signal.
Maybe here is the same problem.
It seems working after removing all the battery optimisations from all the location services and apps using location services. I'll keep you updated.
Edit: as soon as I switch the Bluetooth on the GPS loses the signal again
I have the same problem since August update, since then my GPS can't connect with the satellite. I even reinstall stock Android but nothing. T_T
I have this since I bought it... so this bug comes from android 7... Seems more like a crappy gps chip than a android bug.
GPS does not work for me since I updated to Pie, even though I downgraded again to Oreo stock. I have fixed my GPS issues using the app GPS faster signal Optimizer/Fix. You have to be root. In 10 seconds and an automatic reboot all my problems with the GPS have been solved.
The GPS failure on mine was a hardware problem, poor GPS antenna performance. I just took the back off and cleaned all the antenna contacts with isopropyl alcohol and it's good as new. Took about 10 min to fix.
