Now we have root, Is there a way we can enable the USB OTG function?
I have a USB storage and a Seek thermal camera that both need power out from micro USB port of the phone.
Thanks guys
Wonder if OTG works on this phone with a simple USB drive. And if it even has OTG support in stock ROM. There are apps on Play Store to check.
in rooted xt usb mass storage not supported. unless there's a way to enable something huawei crippled. not sure what it is.
Has anyone figured out how to use usb-otg on this phone yet?
No.

And what will that do? I bet it's not going to make OTG work on this or any other phones that don't support OTG.

Hi,
since yesterday my micro usb connector is not working, i can charge the device through the microusb but im not able to connect it to a computer, any ideas?
thanks
Are you using the standard USB cable that came with your phone or a third party microUSB cable.
Sent from my DROID2 using XDA App
When you say, unable to connect....
Using which mode? Mass Storage? Phone portal? Media Share? (all of them?)
Yes im using original cabel that came with the phone.
i tried all of these modes, but non of them worked. Now the phone died, i wont start, only thing thats happening is that the LED near the usb connector is flashing when im charging it...
try a different cable, your can be faulty, if not funcioanr, install a ftp program to connect to a wifi pc.

I have the same problem
whenever I connect it to my pc the device is charging but no USB mode is working
and the USB icon still appears even when the cable is is removed and its gone after restarting the phone.
Maybe the USB connector is broken (or the contacts are messy). But if you want discard software error, you can try reflash firmware or do cache/data/dalvik wipe.
When I plug my phone into my computer it says it will operate faster if I plug it into a 3.0 port.
I am plugging into a USB 3.0 port.
Does the G2 have a USB 3.0 port? Is there a different cable to use other then the one it came with?
The OEM cable isn't capable of 3.0 data speeds, only charging rate. 5 pin vs 9. If you look hard in the port, you can see what looks like the extra pins for a proprietary cable. At least I hope, and they release one. Someone should ask LG support.
USB 3.0 has a different micro usb connector so it wont work.
i think so, too. the additional pins are for slimport i think
so it won't work
I know USB 3.0 is a different connection but why does the message come up that my phone can work faster if I plug it into a 3.0 port? Does anyone else get that message too?

Yup, my laptop says the same thing... my guess is that internally it is USB 3 but unless there is a proprietary adapter for the other pins in there, the port doesn't support it.

I just looked up slim port, it uses 5 pins like micro USB, but if you look in the G2 port there are other pogo style pads exposed in there.

after reading a bit about slimport you may be right... so maybe we will see a usb 3.0 adapter... even though i doubt it

Some devices can't supply USB devices with power. Therefore you need a USB-OTG cable with (at least) 3 connectors: 1 for your smartphone/tablet, 1 for your USB device and 1 for your power supply.
My daughter has a S3 Neo - with my USB-OTG cable (and external power) it can read/write an USB flash disk.

The cable I was using looks like this: http://www.ebay.de/itm/USB-Typ-A-We...E_Handy_PDA_Kabel_Adapter&hash=item5d45e57c92
You can use such a so-called y-cable or a combination of OTG-cable and USB-hub - the hub is needed (as shown in the video) not only to connect USB devices to your phone but to provide power to your USB devices because the S3 Neo is not able to do this.
And it doesn't matter whether you are using a power bank or the original power supply (and cable) that came with your smartphone.

Hello, I have a quick question: I have an Xbox 360 joypad for the pc (with the usb wireless adapter). If I connect the pc usb adapter to the Nexus player with an otg cable, can I use the controller without problems and without root (and maybe, without install additional software)?
Thanks in advace!

I have watched a few unboxings on Youtube. I see that the S8 and S8+ come with two USB-C adapters, one from micro USB and the other from full USB. None of them have mentioned whether they are OTG compatible. Does anyone know whether either or both support OTG?

The one include with the S7 (micro USB to USB) was OTG capable. Most likely this one is also. Sorry I can't confirm yet.
Logically, is there much other use for a usb-c to female usb-a other than device to device power transfer and otg?

in the unboxing i've seen, there at 2 include connectors: a micro usb to usb-c and a fullsize usb-a to usb-c. the picture on page 12 refers to using the included cable and the small adapter to charge the phone (seems odd....). On page 18 there's a diagram showing the other one in use for for device to device data transfer in conjunction with the other phone's usb cable
The micro-usb to usb-c is obviously not USB OTG compatible.
The larger usb-c to usb-a is OTG compatible (and used for smartswitch as well).
what above says. the message is specific to the Micro USB connector and not any other OTG cables.
Check this thread, all of them should work:

I plugged USB stick into all my other Samsung phones and it always work, not sure why it wouldn't work on S8, with one exception: phone doesn't recognize NTFS out of the box, but you can download driver and then it works with NTFS as well. But to be honest Android file access is a nightmare IMO, so much simpler to plug the phone into computer and do whatever from Windows, but again be careful, if you move files around, they're not updating right away and you may get confused as to where the files are.
