Hi all - it sounds like the front (selfie) camera does not take the best pics.
One of the uses I wanted for the G6 is to use the back camera (the wide angle one) to take selfies instead.
I won't be able to see the screen, but with the wide angle lens, I don't really need to do much framing I'm guessing.
The only thing that I'm concerned about is the lack of auto focus and if the wide angle camera can focus on subjects about 1 metre away from them.
Does anyone have a G6 who could comment / or post a sample pic of this? This is pretty much the dealbreaker for me to get this phone.
Cheers!
I'm interested in the same question! Would be great if anyone could comment on this, hence bumping this thread.
Yes. Front facing camera is not as good as it should be. Specially in low light situation...
This, and lack of LED notification light are the biggest flaw to me
Back cameras takes good selfies though. I don't have any problem with framing or autofocus. Does a good job with defocusing background and shaking effect is at minimum thanks to new image stabilizing system.
Hope this help you
Cheers
Someone here at xda calculated that all things between 35cm and infinity are in Focus for the wide angle camera.
I also made some tests and I think that he is not totaly wrong with his 35cm.
So taking selfies should be ok.
Pixel Camera with HDR+ is great for our V20s! Now that the Pixel Camera APK is available to all of us, has anyone found out a way to make our wide angle lens work for it? Or make the app detect our wide angle cams? So we get HDR+ for our wire angle lenses too. ?
waiting for someone to reply.I want it too for my lg g5
Is it me or is anyone else have the feeling that the "LENS" used in camera differs in quality with it's area wise of models ?
I have read somewhere some time ago that the lens used in Indian model G6 is of poor quality.
I myself find trouble in auto focus of close shots of objects, the lens tries to flutter/jump unable to focus properly.
Lens quality usually entails sharpness & optical defects, or the lack thereof. Pretty much all auto focus systems struggle in extreme macro range, use manual focus for that!
About different regions getting different quality lenses, this is definitively possible. The manufacturing variation of smartphone lenses in general is massive. I don't know about LG, but I know that many Xiaomi phones that are sold unofficially have a lens decentering defect, If the lenses are tested for manufacturing variation they could use the inferior, but still functional units in phones that are meant to sell for a lesser price in a developing country.
The European G6 that I have has great lenses, even the ultra wide lens is really sharp in the center (in raw at least, jpegs are smeared) and there is no noticeable decentering defect on either one.
Interesting theory, I wonder if it's true but I don't think if anyone will be motivated enough (ordering every version of the phone is somewhat crazy ) to test this...
Maybe there are different factories that produce lenses or other camera-related equipment? Then the quality checks will of course be different resulting in different photos taken by the final product. We will never know, probably.
However, I'd like to see this article you are telling us about and also see some camera samples if there is a difference.
In the past Samsung had a case where in one of its "S*" model they used different sensors, some phones had Sony's, the rest had Samsung's and there was noticeable difference in favor of the Sony sensor, it produced richer colors, sharper images and overall picture quality was better
I heard similar theories, not only about LG or other smartphones but also in regards to cars and other electronics.
I don't think we will be able to find the proof of such issues, but this issue could be a possibility.
Do we have different supplier for the sensors of A1?
I'm wandering if my phone is fake of the camera advertising is joke.

Back camera is pretty good in daylight condition, although it doesn't perform well in low-light / interior light conditions.
The problem is front camera. It is very bad for a 2017 middle range phone!
The color is brownish and the photo quality seems to be too compressed. I hope is a camera driver / firmware issue
I do not care for the front camera...
Which will be the secondary camera of Pixel 4 and 4 XL ???
Telephoto or wide angle ??
And
What you guy's prefer ??
I prefer wide angle instead of telephoto lens that's my choice:silly: what's your choice ???
Wide angle...
Widee angle
Had wide angle on my LG G5, just ended up using as a quick alternative to panoramic.
Telephoto for me.
Wide angle but They'll put the telephoto lens as the secondary camera.
Wide and wide selfie
I prefer telephoto...I'm a detail freak.

Personally, I don't like all the effort put into cameras on phones. If I want to take nice pictures, I break out the DSLR.
Telephoto is awesome, happy with this instead of wide angle.
