Hi! I have absolutely NO technical knowledge, and am really, really lost. I'm currently deciding between the Axon 7 and the 6P for my next phone. I love the Axon, but my one requirement for my next phone is stock Nougat with Google Assistant. I read that it is possible on the Nexus 6P to unlock GA, but is it possible on the Axon to get stock N in the first place? From there, could I unlock GA? If nothing is available on the Axon, I'm buying in two weeks, so I can't wait long for it to come out. I couldn't seem to find anywhere that can help me, so I turned to XDA. Thank you in advance!
TLDR: Can the Axon 7 get stock Nougat with Google Assistant as of this moment? I'm okay with rooting or whatever is necessary.
I left the axon 7 to come back to the Nexus 6p ... The best choice and I have already install many mods and apk from pixel like Google assistant

No, Axon 7 will not get GA. Goggle already state that it's only for the Pixel for the time being.
In addition, I don't think we will be seeing Android N on this phone in the near future.

There's a bunch of Pixel fanboys hurt that the ZTE Axon 7 has better hardware than the XL, at half the cost.
When people ask how Google can justify the $870 for a Pixel XL when that buys two AXON 7 phones, they get mad. Over in their forum, they're spreading FUD that the Axon 7 won't get Nougat to make themselves feel better.
He probably got it from them.

READ what I wrote. I said it will not get Google Assistant because Google decided that that's Pixel phone exclusive for now. I also said it will not get Android N any time soon.
We probably see it toward the end of November if we are lucky. ZTE has to fix the HUGE PILE of bugs on the current roms before they even try to go with Android N. That's how software life cycle works.

I said A7 will not be getting Android N anytime in the near future. OP is asking if A7 will get Android N before 6p and we know that's not likely at all.
I had the A7 since launch. I am the guy that posted links on where to buy them on XDA when they launch.

The ZTE Axon 7 is the first smartphone announced to be Google Daydream-compatible along with its very-own VR headset, the ZTE VR. It just needs Android Nougat and Google's necessary VR maintenance software update to pull it off, which will come in the Android Nougat 7.1 update.

We are currently integrating the Daydream package into Axon 7 now. It requires an Android N upgrade and we need final certification from Google. So please note that Axon 7 is not Daydream-ready the day that Daydream launches from Google. We have said all along that we are working with Google on Daydream, which is true, and that we anticipate that it will receive the certification. We only recently received the final Daydream package so it will take some time to finish the integration on Axon 7 and then get certification. We will make a future announcement when it is Daydream ready.

Learn to read? You're the one who can't read. Plus you are giving out incorrect information. You also might want to chill with the name-calling.
You misquoted the op. He did NOT NOT NOT ask if Axon 7 was getting Nougat before the 6p.
He did imply in the "near future", but actually said he wanted to buy either phone in two weeks. He didn't say it needed Nougat before then, but wanted assurance it would get Nougat as that would shape his decision.
But more importantly... The answer is YES, the ZTE Axon 7 WILL get Nougat 7.1 in the near future. Because ZTE marketed the Daydream VR capability and that requires 7.1 Nougat.
However, there are no promises of "stock" Nougat 7.1 nor any promises of Google Assistant. That will require the magic of XDA devs. But it will have Nougat 7.1 in the near future from ZTE.
Here's the op for you to read again, since you didn't read it well the first time?

Better be 7.1 since it's gone late significantly time ZTE to deliver to us.
ZTE has plenty of time to prepare 7.1 and bring it to us(it's already ready by Google)
They would not having any excuse not giving us 7.1 from the beginning.
As I know 7.1 will support VR capability and not 7.0 and other bug fix and optimized tweaks of the OS.

Where did i state such a thing?
Why not all just calm down now the miscommunication has been resolved and axon 7 users will get 7.1 as soon as it's developed.
After that we will surely start seeing more mods and development as well as i personally would not start developing for an operating system that's soon going to become obsolete and risk doing almost everything again... I'd just wait for the latest promised android version to be released and then start making modifications
Nice day and i can guarantee that a few weeks after the update development will have picked up. probably

I really want to stop this, but I must point out again you apparently can't read. I did NOT say that. You can check my post -- which has not been edited. The word you have in quotes is only in your mind, not my post. I did say a lot of Pixel fanbois were "hurt" (feelings hurt, wounded?) the Axon 7 is equal to or better than the XL in many/most hardware specs, for half the price. I assumed you had listened to them, perhaps were one of them. One guy over there attacked me incessantly when I compared hardware specs and they started the false rumor (over there) the ZTE Axon 7 wouldn't get Nougat -- which is quite ignorant and silly if you know anything about the Axon 7.
You started with the name calling and said the ZTE was not getting Nougat in the near future. ZTE says otherwise, if you take them at their promise from two weeks ago. They are diligently working on their version of Nougat 7.1 at least -- since they heavily marketed this phone as being Daydream VR capable, which requires Nougat.

Call it copying all you want but with the HTC Ultra having a second screen I see a bright future for second screen in AOSP. I'll bet someone else will copy the second screen too. At that point hopefully some developers can cobble up some code that allows the second screen to finally work on the V30 if that ever exists and has that awesome feature. After all developers eventually got the pen to work on the Note series be it a few generations in the series but still. I'm confident we'll someday have a working second screen in AOSP.

Been almost three months since the last update! I also have a Samsung S7 Edge (mainly for VR), and it has been getting a steady stream of updates.
This is my first LG phone (got swayed by the DAC) and it is disappointing to see the lack of support, that too for a flagship phone.
Maybe the dev team is small and currently everyone is busy with the G6. Hoping some of that stuff gets ported over to the V20. Also hoping I can eventually root the phone...
Btw, how long does LG support its flagship phones? Is it reasonable to expect two years of updates for the V20?
My previous phone, P9 Plus already have the Feb. 1, 201 sec patch. Come on LG, unlock H990DS and update V20 to 7.1 already!!!! Or at least the latest security patch!!!!

My Lg G2 had at least 4 years of support before it went capput. That is good of LG at east, just slow.
The LG G6 came pre-loaded with Feb Sec Patch, and still on 7.0
keep that in mind, we wont ever get 7.1 , if anything it will go to 8.0 next
Feb Sec Patch For Ls997 is out there but it seems like it got pulled, either to wait for G6 to launch or a issue with the code.
Either way, id be safe to assume there wont be 7.1 for us, but a jump from 7 to 8.
LG historically has skipped the .1 updates and just gone to the full fledged updates.
No update since 2016 December. Hope they will release some update in april.
yeah we can start adding march and april to the title...

wondering if switching from TWN to SEA would be a good solution...
LG seems to put the V-series on the slow lane. V10 was very slow to get any kind of update. It is rumored they weren't even going to update the V10 to Nougat, leaving it as it is, but T-Mobile pressured them to update it to Nougat. I'm hoping they'll not let the V20 languish, but they're throwing everything at the G6, now, and letting the V20 become the "discount" phone.
No update yet for me. My phone is at V10d-AUS-xx.
The Honor 8 has been out for about 10 months now and can now be purchased for $299 from the Honor website. So let's see how this phone holds up and if it's still worth the money.
Updates
The Honor 8 was early to the Nougat scene and has been updated regularly. The stock firmware is currently on Android 7.0 with EMUI 5.0. This has the Honor 8 easily keeping up with its competitors when it comes to updates.
Development
There are several regularly updated ROMs for the Honor 8 that will bring you up to Android 7.1.2. This phone can be rooted with SuperSU while running nougat, and the bootloader can be unlocked easily. So as far as development goes, the community has not let us down.
Specs
Seeing as how the Honor 8 is now a $300 phone, the specs hold up just fine and sometimes easily surpass other phones in this price range. The 4GB of RAM is what most flagship phones are launching with today. The 1080p screen is still plenty usable with no complaints from me. The camera has aged well, still being a lot of fun to use with all of the camera modes on this device. The Hisilicon Kirin 950 processor keeps this phone running plenty fast.
Durability
Who else cracked the back of their phone? Other than that, it's still in once piece. Parts are easy to find on ebay and they're very cheap. This is something that I usually look at when buying a new phone.
Accessories
There were never really a great selection of cases to choose from for the Honor 8. Seems there's still a very slim selection or low quality cases for this device.
Overall this phone holds up nicely. I'd say if it were $400 it would be too expensive. $299 seems like a really fair price for this phone to be going at right now. You can usually find it even lower than that on some other websites.
Just give us EMUI 5 KERNEL source code and we'll be happy customers
I'm afraid you'll find many that would argue that development has NOT been great with this device. Still a great phone though...
How much did Honor pay you for this post?

Imho the Honor 8 is not a bad phone hardware wise, It's just seems like they spend more on PR than actual development and updates. His statement about updates is laughable at best.

Okay, I broke the back glass. Paid $40 to get it repaired.
About the software updates, the US version is doing poorly. Security patches are not delivered monthly. We stayed at a very early patch for a very long time. About the O update, this device should get it. They should at least provide two major Android updates. One was Nougat and the next has to be O.

Only this community of phone nerds cares about monthly security patches. There isn't a company outside of Google that can realistically maintain that level of software support for their entire device portfolio. 2 major OS updates is the most we should realistically expect from Honor or any company. Anything else on top of that is just icing on the cake.
My girlfriend's Huwei P8 receives security patches every two months at least, one just received some days ago with July security patches. So i don't understand why we are not getting them...however, i agree with PuffDaddy_d. I would prefer to have Android O instead monthly security updates

Got the EU G6 delivered today. I really like the design and screen.
To my amazement it was running the April patch. I was assuming that LG had their updates working by now, like Samsung. Even my old Note 4 from 2014 gets regular updates and has the May patches. The G6 being a flagship phone and anything but cheap, this is unacceptable to me. Needless to say it's going back to Amazon tomorrow.

Yes, the missing updates are the core reason and it goes to show that LG still doesn't care, just like Samsung once upon a time. Samsung has now understood and are much better at keeping their units up to date. And as you can see at least some customers do care.
Everyone has different priorities and having the manufacturer keep the software up to date is very high on the list for me.
As to the LG G6 itself - I do like it a lot. But the fact that they have cut more corners adds to the software dilemna.
Here in Europe we get no wireless charging and are stuck with a measly 32GB. The Asian model gets 64GB and is even 100 EUR cheaper (go figure) and would work in terms of the LTE frequencies. But as we know that one isn't unlockable which is the next move by LG I don't agree with.
And lest I forget, the Snapdragon 835 is a huge boost compared to the 821, that's another sub par feature of the G6.
LG and others like them are going to go the way of the Dodo if they don't keep up with the Jones's and release their units with tons of features missing and without proper software support.
Your first post only mentioned the security update being a month behind as your reason for returning it.
Now youre complaining about details that you knew (or should have known) before before deciding to purchase it.
What are these "tons of features missing"?
I'm talking about the 821 vs. the 835 the phone deserves. Then no wireless charging, lack of community support due to the bootloader only being open in certain regions.
I would have been fine with all of it but the software just did it for me.,
It's still a nice phone but not for me.,

Calm down now. Korean version supposedly allready got May security patch so we're gonna get it any time now.
Also, LG doesn't do "small" OS upgrades so no, we're probably not gonna get 7.1.1 or 7.1.2 but we will definitely be the first ones to be getting Android O which is right around the corner. That's how LG rolls.

Can the C567 Oreo could install with Firmware finder, I tried all of them, they are not approved to be installed. I don't want to unlock my phone, it is not safe.
"already released" yeah, officially everywhere BUT the USA version.
I think Huawei is just going to cut their losses that the US government pressured AT&T to bail.
Oh well... Huawei's loss, & if they do, the Mate 9 will be the LAST of the 3 Huawei phones I will buy. No support/updates without having to jack around with it, I'm done.
No approved update

There isn't any "approved" update yet, it seems that the us version will probably be the last to get it if at all.

It's their loss, without any support or updates they will kill any possibility of breaking into the us market, this is my last Huawei phone as well.

same here..coming from samsung and I thought they were bad with updates. You can see on their facebook page people are asking about the update but all they say is wait for it for the last few months and yet they keep on saying they are committed to providing U.S. customers with best possible products and experiences.
It also makes no sense because the Oreo update that's on firmware finder (360) is fantastic. I've been using it since Friday and so far not a single bug or hiccup. My battery life is also better than on Nougat. I haven't even bothered with root this time. I'm on track for 9 hours of SOT on this charge without any special tricks or constantly managing location services and syncing (previously I would get 7.5 hours but I was disabling services and turning off location when not in use). They did a great job with the update. Release it already!

Well afaik huawei isnt the best company on updates.. Been in huawei quad xl before and i thought they already changed but i guess i was wrong. Sad.
This is my first Huawei. Previously mostly had LG phones. The way LG did it was they just stopped supporting the phones seemingly at random, or whenever they determined it wasn't worth the effort. Usually leaving a few large bugs in the last release (such as a terrible battery drain in the last Marshmallow release for the G4, with no way to downgrade). That makes some business sense I guess (not using the resources). In this case, Huawei already developed the update. In fact, there are two version of Oreo for US Mate 9s on Firmware Finder. They've already spent the money. Well, hopefully they'll make it official soon and they're just ironing out some bugs.

I hope so because their not so old phones wont just get updates before
Guys am new to Huawei device so how do i update my mate 9 (L29C185) to oreo. System updater shows my phone is up to date.
Should I update using Firmware Finder (FF)?, if i update to oreo using FF is there any problem? Or should i wait till i get OTA? Please hlp...
i guess the reason Huawei make US market the last one for the rom update , was want to make sure there is no bugs when the time to do the OTA for US market which is a major one for Huawei. so i am also waiting for OTA
Guess they are holding off "officially" until after the U.S. release of the Mate 10?

I decided to rebrand to C432 and get the oreo update, I am tired of waiting, the cell phone has 1-2 years lifetime, I don't want to waste my life to stay with buggy EMUI 5.0 . EMUI 5.0 US B190 has a lot of bugs, and the security pack is April 2017, and the battery can rarely last for a whole day. Rebrand to C432 and enjoy smooth and battery-saving system.

I don't understand this, I never had any battery problems when I was with Nougat, majority of the users on Nougat are satisfied with the battery life, yes there's some bugs on EMUI 5.0 but not enough to cause any major issues, are you sure you didn't do all the steps like back tracking on what apps were installed and etc.?
I only upgraded to Oreo for the security patch and for curiosity reasons, been having a good device experience so far
Stock mate9 here. I'm getting 7-9 hours sot. It is the best phone I've ever owned as far as battery goes. I just can't kill this thing in a day. I YouTube, game, hotspot, social, maps, and everything else.

When it was on EMUI 5, the android system consumed most of the power, after rebrand and upgrade to emui 8, battery and everything is amazing!
Finally got the official update on my US unlocked Mate 9 a little bit ago! Hopefully everyone else that has been chomping at the bit to get it and didn't want to use FirmwareFinder, etc. will see it soon
Got my update at 9am this morning, performance is definitely a lot better
