I like look of the Note series for the size and the stylus. The Note 7 looked great before it was recalled. The Note 5 doesn't have microSD. So I am left with Note 4.
Some questions:
- Is the OS updated on the Note 4 and does it perform well? If not, is there a good clean modern ROM with Android 7+ for the Note 4?
- Will I get multi-user accounts? I am developing software and would like to show it off on this phone. So I need a dedicated user account for demoing.
- It will be the UK version so Snapdragon 805 I think. I see this processor has HEVC decoding. Does hardware HEVC decoding work in practice?
I know the android ecosystem has major problems with updates and vendor alterations so I would like to avoid these issues.
Thanks for any info!

Well, I have a 910C which is an exynos version. But I can tell you that samsung is pushing security updates every 2-3 months for each countries clean CSC. I don't think we'll be getting official Android 7 though. And to use the multiuser feature you will have to use a custom ROM like cyanogenmod. (ROMs are more available in snapdragon variations, they even already have an android 7 port)
No idea on HEVC, but I'm guessing it's functional.

Sorry I don't. But you can easily find here at xda at the snapdragon subforum.

I was wondering if our Nexus 7 can also run multiple windows at the same time just like Galaxy Tab 2 and Note 2. I havnt found any rom yet which supports such thing and some people are saying, an official update would fix that. Is there any chance we can have that on our Nexus 7?

Could you explain what you mean by "windows"? Are you talking about Touchwiz apps?
Edit: also, put Qs in the Q+A section. Actually, someone just asked this (coincidence)?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1974476
There's apps on the play store that supports multi-windows like the note 2. There's a app called "OverSkreen (floating browser)" but it doesn't have support for jelly bean yet.
The OP is referring to the TouchWiz feature of running 2 apps side-by-side. This feature was heavily advertised on the Note 2. I think it is called Multitasking (lame name, I know).
I hadn't heard anything specifically related to the N7, but I did hear that it was part of the TouchWiz framework and it probably wouldn't be available on AOSP ROMs. I am waiting to be corrected though
Jolla released it's Sailfish OS SDK some time ago and I'm expecting it to be ported on my Phone. Is anyone here to do this ?

I'm not really good at porting, but it should be easy. The 3 problems are
kernel
HW accel with GPU
Touchscreen
The first one is really easy since if you cannot run a Mer stock / customized UI, you can still take Android one.
For the second, it is the trickiest, but you can still use mesa-llvmpipe (no HW accel, but only software)
For the thirst point, it is up to the screen manufacturer. Some provides linux drivers, some do not. But for Android, it might be highly probable that a driver is provided.

Because SW architecture are not the same
You need an X11 driver etc.

We will check if it works. Maybe the support for the HW in the Nexus 4 is good ...
But for the Nexus 7, it is nearly sure that it works. Something similar (Ubuntu) were ported on it ...
Has Google still not been able to release all the source code for the Nexus 4?
Disgusting if so.

You mean Ubuntu for Tablets? If so then the Nexus 4 should also possibly be able to get a Sailfish port. They release Ubuntu for Phones on the Nexus 4 the same day the UfT port was released for the N7.
Bump.
It's been 9 months since the last post on a Nexus 4 port of SailfishOS. Has someone brought this baby to term? Anyone know if there's an ongoing effort?
There is no sources or devices released. Theres only the x86 based sdk. So what do you can be ported? The x86 sdk to arm cpu? Never. And the Sailfish ui is proprietary so sources wont be released. If you want Mer with the default ui, sources can be downloaded from the Mer-projects website

That's great news! If I understand correctly he flashed CM and then patches it with libhybris+sailfish. That makes me hope for easy patching to other devices too...

Thanks for showing this. It would be nice to see another minute or two to demonstrate how sailfish performs on Nexus. Perhaps this is still at early stages. Are you able to provide instructions and location of files? Thanks again!

No files or anything else have been made available yet. It might be too early yet, but now any hope we might have had has gained some solid foundations
No news about the port to Nexus 4 ? I can't wait to try it.

I wish they would at least show a demo of how they did it. That way we could try making some progress with other devices awhile
So...is there any word on a possible update to 4.3? Kitkat seems unlikely...and frankly unnecessary, since the Android GUI isn't used on Ouya...but 4.3 adds OpenGL 3.0 support, and Ouya, being a game console, 4.3 seems like a very relevant update. Games ported from Android with added support for additional OpenGL effects may still have them enabled on Ouya, with no additional changes needed to enable them, and developers would be able to make games that utilize OpenGL 3.0.

This is more of a hardware issue in regards to OpenGL 3.0 support... our little T33 doesnt have support for it.
But in regards to whether or not we will see a 4.3 update on ouya? possibly...but more than likely from the community and not from the ouya team themselves.
If we get a version upgrade I guess it will be 4.2. a jump to 4.3 sounds unlikely to me... Otherwise it might bring profiles

What is the value of 4.3? Even for tablets it is minimal, since most of the updates were telephony. Even the newer Open GL 3 is doubtful for efficient use with Tegra 3.
Seems best bet is a robust version of 4.22 that allows any market you want to use and apps2sd (though that will not help much with newer games).
We will most likely never get official play store support. Get used to it
But who knows what dev community might come up with?
Ouya is quite new and has made quite good progress in terms of community and official support.
Remember: the device isn't even availlable around the world yet. In Germany we should get official retail units on 10.10. and I guess other countries don't differ. There are many potential devs to join and lots of improvement to be made by official Ouya team.
I am really looking forward to what will come the next month's. But I don't see 4.3 coming as official it's, neither do I feel the need for it.

Yes it's doubtful since the T33 in the OUYA doesn't even support opengl 3.0... again this is a hardware issue... just because the software can make use of it doesn't mean devices *magically* have opengl 3.0 support.
But they should think in other good things about upgrading to 4.3. For example Netflix, in 4.3 netflix have full hd support

I dont mean to be rude but your argument seems pointless to me as long as we don't have official netflix support for the ouya.
Here it is! Stable release of ubuntu touch, here you can find brief summary about it.
link: www . omgubuntu.co.uk/2013/10/ubuntu-touch-ready-prime-time (erase spacebars)
As for me, it's a good system for phone, but it offers only basic features and couple of bugs I have aleready fund (nothing big). Assuming that it can be installed only by advanced nexus users....it does not seem to be a good deal. But I hope new updates will make it much better
s2 support?
does it support galaxy s2?or let me rephrase it, is this version of ubuntu you mentioned supports Galaxy S2 GT-I9100??

No, the official (and stable) versions are for Nexus devices only.
Look for a port in the S2 forums.
Now I can compile on the go! lol

What bugs did you find? I installed in on my nexus 4, but found it too basic for me and the data on wifi was kind of laggy.
I wasn't able to launch into desktop mode when connected to the slimport to hdmi adaptor.

Hi,
Is is possible to develop ROM for the Note 4 beyond Nougat? Lets say Android 10 for Note 4?
Or is it a matter or hardware?

Note 4 Snapdragon has already android 9. And it depends on the will of the developer to go to android 10 or not. The developer might or might not be able to do it according with the hardware and software limitations.
Note 4 Exynos has HUGE issues for development due to the Samsung proprietary closed sources.
Go read on the forums and educate yourself.
