[Solved] Recovering data from stock bootloop - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey everyone,
Apologise for asking this question ! As it has been covered before from my research but not exactly and I am still quite confused so I'd greatly appreciate some insight from you guys.
Basically I have a stock i9505 which has gone into bootloop, it is not rooted and not modded in any way.
I've tried to enter recovery mode and wipe cache partition but it did not work, so I can do a factory reset, but a factory reset with stock recovery will wipe all of my data off my internal SD card.
I have downloaded odin but there a few different opinions as to what I should be doing, some threads say I should install CWM and run ADB to fetch the files. (https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2498228&page=2)
Another opinion is that I should use Odin to flash a stock rom
"Install a stock ROM through Odin, as Odin doesn't wipe user data when a ROM is installed. If you want to play it safe however, install TWRP first and make a nandroid backup onto your MicroSD card. Then install the stock ROM."
(From this thread https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s4/help/recover-data-soft-bricked-s4-i9505-t3236351)
Would someone be able to point me toward the correct process for recovering my files? I will appreciate it immensely.
Thanks very much!

It is the UK unlocked LTE version. I think the version number currently on the phone is i9505xxuhoj2 . However every place I have tried to DL from is one of those sites where you must sign up or it gives you an impractically low speed (sporadic connection means it cuts off the download quite quickly).
Thanks very much.

[Q] Rooted phone - can't flash rom and forgot to backup.

Hello, I rooted my galaxy 4 yesterday with odin v.3.07 and flashed CWM. I erased as usual when you flash another rom, but when i try to install a rom it just say something like "Aborted". I can access CMW and download mode, but can't install a rom from CMW, and I don't have any backup. Anybody know what to do? My computer knows that the phone is plugged in as i can see it in the odin program.

You must know the area your phone came from.
These seem to be zips,so flash with CWM.

You have to unzip this file and install the content with Odin.
After unzipping this archive you should end up witch md5 file and this is the file to put in to Odin

Maybe try installing a different recovery.
I heard sometimes these new recoveries need more than one go to install things.

I am running stock and its rooted.
I have no clue on how to check the firmware without the settings application...feels sort of hopeless haha.
Do you think if I flash a new rom everything will work?
I don't have a recovery installed and everytime I try installing one I get the "seandroid enforcing" bit with it boot looping.

You can dirty flash the rom you are on without wiping and all should be restored, just reflash the custom recovery and reroot afterwards.

I would only ever use the suggested recovery options, NEVER use a different model in your phone.
http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/
Click that link, type in the "Find device" search box and input GT-i9515 and you actually get a lot of stock roms. Because it's from Samsung it is all official. You will need to find Odin 3.09 and a helpful guide to aid in the procedure, all current information will be lost on your device and will bring it back to stock (except perhaps the flash counter, which can be reset with Triangle Away)
As always, do as much research as you can before going ahead with any potentially dangerous changes!
Good luck

I actually did use a CWM recovery option that wasn't specifically for the i9515 but for the 9500 or the 9505. I do not remember which one of both of these I did use though and I do not want to take that risk again.
So this will also reset my ROM and wipe all data? That is not what I am looking for unfortunately. I am looking for solely the stock recovery menu. Everything else should stay as it is. Isn't that possible?

As far as I'm aware the only solution to remove the Custom Recoveries is to flash stock firmware via Odin, I could be wrong but I've never heard of it.
Sorry I can't help further, best of luck with your predicament.

Just flash the stock rom
"If someone helps, never forget to hit thanks ? "
I can't flash the stock rom because I want to keep a modified rom and yet still have the stock recovery.
If you care why: Cerberus anti-theft rom.
So I need a way to keep everything but the recovery. That one has to go back to stock so no thiefs suspect custom roms when doing a hard reset and seeing CWM Recovery.
Bump
Bump,
no one got an idea?
Well then just download the official firmware and extract recovery.img. Then flash it using terminal or heimdall.

I gotta be really stupid or I am overseeing something.
I got the whole 1,6gb firmware.
It has this file in it: "I9515XXU1ANI2_I9515VFG1ANI1_I9515XXU1ANI2_HOME.tar.md5" I tried changing the .md5 to .zip but it only showed me a few files inside it then that did not include a recovery file. Emulating the .md5 file with daemon tools didn't work either.
I don't know how to find the recovery file in it.

Hi
Rename your .md5 firmware in .tar, then open it with winrar, and extract the kernel called "boot.img".
Then flash it with "mobile odin" in your phone.
Hey,
thanks for your help, but there is also a recovery.img. I guess I will flash that one and not the boot.img one if I want to have the stock Recovery, shouldn't I?

Alright then, wish me luck, I will try it this evening.
Edit: already did it quickly. Worked perfect! Now I have the stock Recovery back and just the Cerberus ROM installed. Perfect. May these thieves come if they dare... They won't realize at all that there is something integrated in this ROM.
I used RashR by the way.

I wouldnt flash firmware that "might" work on your device or is build for another rom.... you should try reinstalling drivers and flash stock rom thru odin, if it wont work try twrp 3.0.0 if it detects your storage....

Has this guy solved? Since he can boot into twrp where it should be the problem? I ve seen some posts and some step is missing... if twrp says 0mb storage, are u sure u selected the right storage?

Invalid zip format, And when I try to boot it up into anything its stuck at the s4 logo. System, Recovery Ect.
I'm buying a new phone tomorrow but would still like to fix this s4.

So you mean just installing it from twrp, because what I did was I downloaded the stock rom from my laptop and transferred it to my sd card, so if I use a different rom you think i'll get a different result?

Get a usb jig to force the phone into download mode and flash a stock rom from sammobile.com or updato.com. You need to unzip the file once to get a tar.md5 for Odin.
