I wonder if using an app like Lightflow will work for you.
Yes, I did in fact try it and it has options to keep it on for various time periods or until unlocked.
Unfortunately it does NOT work on the Axon 7.
No way to do what you want right now. We are hoping that the Nougat update will adress this and many other issues with this phone. You can search at ZTEUSA web site for more information.
Bringing this back up again now that Nougat has been made available. So has anyone found a way within the new OS how to make this light stay on longer???
Between the broken led notifications and overall lack of notification control, I'm at a loss on how to deal with this.
Coming from a moto x pure, it took some adjusting to the moto display. I had it set it where an audible notification was made on email/text/etc arrival. Picking up the phone would trigger the moto display to show what the actual notification was. I am ok with this.
On this phone, if the sound is missed, the led goes out after about a min (on stock 7.1.1), and other than unlocking, there's no other way to see if there are any notifications. How are others dealing with this?
Software updates should be bringing about better solutions, not more broken [email protected]#
This might be a nonissue in resurrection, but lack of sim control (being able to turn off each individual sim) is the deal breaker for me.

Hey all. Just wanted to post to clear up some discrepancies that I have found concerning the presence or absence of the notification light on the 2014 version of the Moto X. There is in fact a notification light on the Moto X. However, like most users I couldn't find any setting for it or in fact see where it might be located physically on the phone itself.
To enable the notification light I am pretty sure your phone must be rooted and a custom ROM installed. As mentioned before, I had no idea that the Moto X had a notification LED until after I rooted it. When rooting and flashing was when I first saw the LED light up. When putting the device in fastboot mode (Volume down + power), a small green light showed up in the top speaker. Rather, in the slit between the front of the speaker and the body of the phone where the sound emenates from. I just assumed it was kind of a "warning" light to notify you that you were outing the phone in Fastboot mode and ignored it. Anyway, after the new ROM was installed and my notifications started rolling in, the light started lighting up. So far it has lit up for each text and also for my snapchats.
As for why the light was included by Motorola, but was still disabled, I can only guess. I assume that because of the Moto Display feature being included the developers assumed it would be redundant. Indeed, if I had a choice between Moto Display or a notification light, I would probably choose the display, but that just my two cents.
So, if you have rooted and flashed, have you noticed the notification light? Or is this just enabled by Motorola with the android 5.x update? Thoughts?

It's not disabled, it's just not a notification light. On the stock rom it's used to indicate that the phone is charging or low on battery if the phone is not turned on. Custom roms override that feature and use it as a notification light instead.
I'll take your word for it. However, I never saw an option for it on the settings, and it never once lit up while I was charging, on or off.
Thanks for the input and explanation!

I think it only comes on if the battery is so low that the phone can't turn on yet to indicate that it's getting power.
I saw mine blink one time. It was when I was rebooting. I saw a Red light flash real quick. Really wish I was rooted so I could enable it.
No need to have a custom rom. If you are rooted you can simply enable it using Tasker. I use it for certain profiles.

You saw one of the IR sensor lighting up. the only led on the X 2014 is a green one.
No. It was the light. But I'll argue with u more about it since I'm bored.
There are MANY YouTube reviews that mention the IR sensors and the "light flash"..

i'm on stock 5.0 rooted and light flow app. led notification works well
Please share tour settings.
My config. 20 in intensity is plenty sufficient
as in the "other post" i share here my config
Bad news (for me) after lightflow update (playstore 17 February) no more led notification. Can't make led work
So baaaaaad
Iv been using Tasker and the "notification listener" plugin.
Iv just set up profiles to switch a variable on and off based on notification posted/cleared.
Then a task that runs an LED flashing loop based on that variables value.
In tasker, the LED is called "charging led" not a notification led.

That happened to me on the version before this update, it was driving me crazy. LED just stopped working, tried everything to fix but it wouldn't work. Then this morning it was working and then I saw the update so I backed up the app with titanium and updated. So far, knock on wood, been working all day.
I solved unonstalling LF and re-installing from playstore. Works again. +1

I am having this issue, again, so frustrating. A reboot fixed it for a short period but the led stopped working again. I haven't tried uninstalling and redownloading but that is my next step.
I would really like to know what is causing this, the app or something with the stock rom.
Don't know why. Now i'm on cm nightlies, no need LF, led's working good
Is possible to create some kind of "patch" to use the notification LED on Stock ? I mean to use it as a native LED, like on CM builds, basically port this function from CM and implement it on Stock?
Hello Everyone,
I'm sure this has been covered before and a lot of you already know about or have already activated your Notification LED on your Nexus 6. This thread is for people who did not know about the LED or don't know how to activate it.
So, the Motorola Nexus 6 has a RGB Notification Light. It is placed inside / beneath the top speaker. Motorola / Google decided to disable it in favor of the Ambient Display feature. Why would they not still leave it available as an option? I have no idea. It is pretty easy to activate it though. Here is what you need to do.
1. Your Nexus 6 must be rooted.
2. Download Light Flow Lite (FREE) on the Google Play Store.
3. In the Light Flow App, go into Settings, then Device Settings and Root. You must select the following options: Direct Mode, Root Mode, Run every command as root. If all three of these are not selected, your LED will not work.
4. Now just go into Notification Settings in the Light Flow App and you can fully customize your Notification Light.
For example, I have my Notification Light set to turn red while charging and green when fully charged. When I unplug my phone, the light goes off instantly. I also set red for missed calls, green for text messages, and blue for emails (Gmail). This is sufficient for my needs but you can also setup specific app notifications as well like Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat, etc. You can even set the cycle timings for when you have multiple notifications.
The only issue with the Notification Light in the Nexus 6 is that you can not make it blink. It will stay on / solid until you clear the Notification. I don't believe this will effect battery life too much, especially being Light Flow gives you control of the brightness of the LED. Also, Light Flow gives options for other various colors such as orange, purple, white, etc. I have only gotten Red, Green, and Blue to work so far. I am currently looking into this.
This method works whether you are stock or even if you have a custom kernal / rom. There are quite a few custom roms for the Nexus 6 that activate the LED as well.
I have decided to post this because when I looked into activating my Notification Light on my Nexus 6 I came across a few methods, and this is the only one that worked.
Also, most importantly, all of the guides / people I have talked to about activating the LED on the Nexus 6 that direct you to Light Flow claim you need the paid version and you do NOT. If this use to be the case it is not anymore. I have full control of my LED and I do NOT have the paid version of Light Flow.
There are dozens of ROMs to download that already have the notification light working... So I guess this really only pertains to those who buy a Nexus and wish to remain completely stock except for these mods? In which case, same a custom ROM but they are doing the mods themselves.

I agree. I have had my Nexus 6 for about a month myself. I have not tried out any custom roms yet. I like keeping it simple / stock. I just wanted my Notification Light is all. This thread is more directed at stock users I guess.
I can only get Red, Green, and Blue colors though.

Same here. I believe that is all the light is physically capable of producing. I think that is the outcome regardless of the method used. (Light Flow, Custom ROM, etc)
Hi,
I use moto display without gesture detection. When i receive a notification (mail, text message, ...) the screen turns on and slowly turns off which is the expected behaviour. But then the screen keep turning on/off indefinitely until i open the notification or dismiss it.
Do you have the same behaviour ?
Moreover this behaviour is not linked to any phone mouvement as it is just laid on the table without any vibration that could wake it up.
It seems to me that this new bahaviour appeared with MM.
Either you disable Moto display for notifications or slide the unlock icon to the right so it will dismiss the notification on moto display but not on the notifications bar.
Yes, but do you confirm that this is the expected behaviour ?
I thought it was supposed to turn the screen on just one time and not to turn my screen into a christmas tree. Moto display is supposed to save our battery life, not sure it is going to reach that target with this behaviour, especially with a screen that is not an amoled...

It's gonna pulse every minute or so for about 10 minutes I believe. Then it stops. If your phone is face down, it won't pulse at all.
Thanks for your feedback, too bad that we can't configure it, it's way too long by default imo.
I had a problem with the Lollipop and now the MM versions of the Moto Display. You can dismiss the notification, but it will start pulsing again for the same notification a little while later, with nothing new happening. Wasn't too bad with Lollipop, because I just switched to Ambient display which worked perfect. Now Ambient is gone for some reason.

I've checked, i don't have this behaviour on my side, once the notification is dismissed it stops pulsing... i don't understand how it can be different from one phone to another.
Edit : How did you switch to Ambient display btw ?
I haven't found a way to switch to Ambient on MM, you can only turn off Moto Display which gives you no notifications at all! It was easy with Lollipop, just go to the Moto settings and choose which display version you want.
Well it could be acceptable to turn it off with a notification led...

Maybe unfortunately for some, Motorola got rid of Ambient Display in MM.

Before I even get started, I know CM13 is outdated/discontinued/insecure. I'm aware, I'm stuck with it for a while.
I've been trying to get the notification LED on my phone to work the way I want. I had no problems doing this with Light Flow on my old Samsung GS4. Things were not so peachy until I was reminded Cyanogenmod has built in controls for the notification LED. I have everything set up just the way I want it, it demos just fine when I'm punching in the settings. The problem is it won't work reliably when I set my phone down.
With my GS4, if the screen was off and I had notifications, the LED blinked accordingly. My N6P doesn't do that. I've caught it blinking a few times throughout my day, and had friends send me notifications while it's sitting on my desk, so I know it works sometimes. But the LED won't stay that way forever, eventually it just decides my notifications aren't important enough to me and stops blinking.
I'm having a hard time really pinning down it's logic because it seems to just work when it wants to. I have a theory that the way the 6P is really aggressive about saving battery, whatever service controls the LED is being woken up when a new notification comes in and eventually being put back to sleep, but I simply don't know enough to say. While I'm at it, I don't think I have any way of assigning priority to the different notifications (a text message is more important than an email, for example), so my color code scheme might as well go out the window.
I don't know why google seems to hate the notification LED so much, every time I try to google the issue I just get tons of pages telling me how Google hid it away and you can turn it back on in the settings for AOSP. Obviously none of that is helpful, maybe someone here has an answer?
Hi Guys,
Got the new Moto G7. Been playing around with it but i cannot seem to find any option to enabled notification light.
Any ideas if G7 does have notification LED and if so how to enabled it?
Thanks
Iru
I may disassemble mine at some point and look, it might not though just because of space restrictions.
There is one white notification light it seems in the water drop notch. I'm unsure on how to enable it but I've seen it power on during the phones start up process.

Will have to check it out and see if we can enable it.
Lightflow can't access the light, it even says the light is there and is only a white light, but can't access it at all.
Why would they ship out an LED yet not use?

The led gets activated when the phone is bricked so you see it's not a complete brick but still a phone if you connect it into an usb.
This seems to be a "feature" with all the latest Moto G Power phones including the G7. I've been able to turn it on and make it usable to show notifcations have come in with various root applications. Search play store for "Moto LED notifcations".
pretty funny because the notification led never worked for me on stock, but on lineageos it did
