Hey I haven't been rooting in awhile because I just been to busy to really rest new features and whatnot I've just been using my device as your average consumer. But I just got a note 4 for a very sweet deal and want to get back into rooting. My phone is unlocked on metropcs it is a tmobile model that's fully updated with the latest firmware and stuff. I just would like to get a decent bloat free touchwiz rom because I would like yo use the fingerprint feature but every touchwiz rom I try flashing doesn't work. I haven't tried cm 12 yet. Can someone point to the right direction please just want a simple rom with touchwiz main features not even all of them lol
What recovery do you have? You should be on last TWRP 3.0.2 and also check your Bootloader and Modem if you need to update them with ODIN.

Ok, I've been running a Note 2 for a VERY long time since released. ROMing, rooting, etc was super simple and did it often. However, its been a year or more since I've had to do anything. Now with my new phone it seems there are a lot of new hoops to jump through. I already got the AT&T has detected something yada yada you're screwed yada yada and had to flash back stock firmware with Odin.
So I have rooted with towelroot. I've tried installing the TWRP via their app which caused the first soft AT&T brick.
I don't care about warranty, timer fuse, flash ticker etc etc. I bought the S5 new but second hand. I hate asking to be spoon fed how or where to look but I'm at my wits end. Don't even have to say anything just provide some links. I havent been on a stock android in years and this is killing me.
I've read something about needing Loki to bypass bootloader but saw it's for S4 and not sure what to do with it.
I have the US version of the Galaxy S5 running 4.4.2 Model 900A. I see CWM and TWRP links I've found say they can't do to bootloader lock so not sure where to go.
Thanks ahead of time!
Ok, waiting on my SD card to get here in the morning to use safestrap. What actual roms can I use? I see only things using stock kernel but can CM or other non basic stock roms?
Can I flash this? http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s5/unified-development/rom-resurrection-remix-5-3-4-t3033255
I'm on A01 bootloader and have flashfire etc via this thread. Running G900A_OF3_Stock_Rooted_Deodexed_ROM http://forum.xda-developers.com/att...w-to-update-to-g900aof2-5-0-keeproot-t3149146
I just got the Verizon variant of the Galaxy S5 (SM-G900V). I rooted it very easily using odin without tripping knox; that was easy.
I then began looking for ROMs; which for this phone, isn't easy with the locked bootloaders.
I came across a custom ROM, forgot off the top of my head but may go back to retry loading it.
Because these devices have locked bootloaders, any ROM flashed to it will need to have a separate bootloader flashed as well. The aforementioned ROM had one and I understood why, but after I odin flashed the new bootloader, i kept getting a black screen. OK no biggie, factory flash, re-root look for another ROM, except this time, I'm looking for a pre -rooted factory ROM. I came across a lollipop one, 0A8, was hoping for 0G5, but will deal with that later. Of course the ROM had to have, I guess for lack of a better word, a custom bootloader, or index, to tell the phone it's okay to use this software right? So now have lollipop, but have lost TWRP on boot. I'm not sure as to why this has happened, but it's a real pain I want to install and use ROMs on this phone. If I need to downgrade to have TWRP, that's no big deal. So here I am a lollipop stock ROM, rooted wihout TWRP, ugh.
Is there anyone who can help me find a solution to this, it's driving me mad. I just want to have a recovery installed and the klte version won't install. It must be a lollipop thing, but I would love to have cm12.1 when it comes out. And why does this stupid script keep popping up while I'm trying to type this. Just thought I'd share my frustrations or see if there is a way to get TWRP on lollipop?
Thanks in advance.
Hello,
Welcome to XDA.
To better assist you, your thread will be moved to your device Q&A forum linked below.

The experts there may be able to help. Good luck.
U cannot load into twrp or safestrap above the n12 kernal.
If you want to access your recovery, you could try loading the n12 kernal via odin. Then use your recovery. Then reflash the right kernal for your rom via Odin to return to loading status.
That's what I hear is possible- you sound like you can rebuild if u get in trouble.
As for CM - we don't have an unlocked bootloader so that's unfortunately killing it at this time. We are stuck on stock rooted TW roms, or slight variations of TW roms.

Hi there,
I need a little help with updating my Note3. Ill start off with what I have here. I acquired a used Note 3 from a member of the Canadian Olympic Curling Team. It came from the last winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia. She was given it to her from Samsung. Its model number is SM-N9005. Currently I am running Android Version 4.3, and its Baseband# is N9005XXUDMJ7, and Build# is JSS15J.N9005XXUDMK2. I am using it in Manitoba, Canada on the MTS Mobilty Network, and its been working great!
It is rooted and I have the rom backed up to SD card using either CWM/TWRP, I can't remember which one. I'd like to update from Jellybean to the newest Android which I believe is Marsmallow, and would like to know how I can do this, and still keep my installed apps? I mean, Would I have to re-install all my installed apps? This would really suck, as i have a ton of apps. Also, all my texts and contacts. I know the contacts would be reinstalled from my google account, and I believe I can back up my texts, but would they still work after updating the OS? (I remember my apple days this was usually an issue!) I am using GoSMS Pro, and BBM for texting.
Can I simply "unroot" my phone and then update via the OTA option, then "re-root" it? Also, I have an awesome theme installed that changed all my icons to awesome looking full color icons, which i really like it is "The best theme ever 4 note 3" by SirM.
Can someone please tell me what it would take to update to the newest Android OS for me, so that I can keep my apps and all my settings intact, or even if that's possible?
I hope this isnt too much of a stupid request, but I don't have the time to wade through all the different forums/subforums for all the info im looking for, as there are so many diffenet types of Note 3's out there it seems! (Att/Verizon/Etc!)
Thanks for now, and I really appreciate any help.
Ginnz.
----Added later.
Ok, now here is probably a real stupid question, but I just seen an awesome Rom which i'd love to try, its a Note 5 port which promises to run real smooth on the Note3. Now, I am wondering if its as easy as just simply flashing it? or do I need to update to the newest Android version first, then flashing? And, would it work on my version of phone? This is the Rom I am referring to... And there is mention of "Aroma"? What is Aroma? Is it included with this Rom? or does it need to be installed first? Damn, I Know, Im so far behind with all this stuff. I Just been so busy with work, Family, work (Job #2) and all that jazz.... I hope these questions arn't too stupid! I just need a push in the right direction (s)
([Rom][5.1.1][N5 Port][19.02.2016] [Multi-DPI] Phronesis Rom v6 Feature Rich)
Thanks again in advance!
GiNNz!
Aroma is just an installer with multiple user options .
That is an excellent rom by the way .
Flash official 5.0.
Or flash the modem/baseband as in the thread. Then flash twrp 2.8.7.0. Followed by the rom you mentioned.

I install a fresh firmware 5.0, I root it with Kingo Root, flash it with twrp 2.8.7.0
I try to install Phronesis v6 and not working. is coming in loop.
In past with Phronesis v3 it works fine.
Where is my mistake?
Are you wiping the system, data, and cache before installing the rom?
Hi guys, Newbie to forum and rooting here! I own a Galaxy S4 i9505 android version 4.3 and want it to upgrade to a higher, better and stable version. I've been doing a lot of research and found that the latest 6.0.1 gives issues with wifi on s4! I always wanted to root my phone but never did but since pokemon go doesn't run on 4.3 I'm glad that I'm forced to root it ! So, which is the best ROM and android version that I should upgrade my phone to that'll not show any bugs or issues! I don't care if the android version's not latest..I own only one phone! Just want to run pokemon go and exploit some features that rooting will provide! Thanks for help~
There aren't any ROMs that are 100% bug free. Even Samsung ROMs have bugs.
Also, the matter of "which ROM is better" is subjective.

Hey thanks for the reply! I'm aware that no ROM maybe 100% bug free but maybe there are some which have insignificant bugs?? and also perhaps the older ROMs..say the ones with android 5.0.x maybe so because of more updates? In that regard, I would really like if you would recommend one such ROM to your knowledge! Thanks!

The Google Play Edition ROM has always been working well for me.

Me, ive come from many years of custom ROMs on my S2, and due to all the issues with CM13 which was the last ROM i ran on it, i retired the S2 the other day and got a cheap second hand S4, and i have to say after all the drama of custom CM13 on the S2, i am actually enjoying the stock 5.01 LP ROM on the S4. All ive done is run CF Auto Root and then run this debloat app on it Until i do enough research on what a good custom ROM to install, im just going to stick with the stock 5.0.1...
Stock 5.01 is available here at sammobile
It should be enough of an upgrade over 4.3, plus you should probably flash this at least once before going to a custom ROM anyways...for reasons i wont bore you with
You can try this first up as an alternate to sammobile.com (because they limit your speed):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-tab-s/general/tool-samfirm-samsung-firmware-t2988647
This backdoors a fast download from Sammobile...much faster
I just got it to finally work to download my ROM!
Or if you try the main sammobile.com website
If you choose to go this route, pick your country, and if you want an unbranded, no carrier bloat version, pick the one form your country with no carrier name after it in brackets, i.e. pick the one with just the 3 letter region code in brackets after it. Note: its about 1.4Gb to download, and unlike the old days sammobile will make it fricking painful to get without paying them...they throttle the download. Im on my 8th go trying to get my ROM, every time it fails you have to restart, so they soak up your data allowance the bastards, but theres nowhere else i know of to get my ROM
Or another alternate:
http://fw.updato.com/
Ok so I've decided to flash this ROM: http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...om-untouched-google-play-edition-5-1-t3198177
But I'm getting confused between the meanings of rooting and flashing ROM. Do I need to "root" my phone (I would use Super SU) before flashing it? Because I'm following this tutorial https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IDlV3plfnVA
and his recovery screen looks different than mine. Apparently, he's using clockworkMod CWM but how do I do that? So, if I root my phone first then will my recover screen look similar to his? It's confusing! Please help!
Like i said id flash a stock ROM first before going custom....GPE still counts as a custom ROM
Be sure to read this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=67514801&postcount=1380 and more than just the front page of any ROM, this one has a few issues, i assume fixed.....
As for recovery, you should forget about Phliz (it can have issues with newer ROM's) and use TWRP instead (i used to hate TWRP, but CWM based recoveries seemingly arent being updated to fix issues lately)
I did a quick post about installing it (and fixing a potential niggle) here earlier: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=67769031&postcount=6
Like a lot of noobies to the Verizon S5, I've discovered I bought an eMMC 11 locked bootloader S5 and I can't run the stuff I had on my last phone (USC S5 in my case). I've passed denial and anger, and am struggling with acceptance. Maybe the choices aren't THAT bad (ugh, they probably are). So help those of us who just bought a new (used) phone accept reality...
So it looks like the choice at this point is Unrooted Marshmallow or Rooted Lollipop. And is it really worth all the trouble to install Safestrap to end up with the Unrooted Marshmallow like what's already on the phone?
So, what are the pros/cons of rooted lollipop? What does one lose/What does one gain? Is it worth it?

SM-G900V is a very good phone from any point of view.
I've bought near 20 of them, it's my hobby to repair something .
Some were sold, some I've presented to my friends, some are in use in my family.
Really, all my family use this phone model, despite I'm on the opposite side of the globe from Verizon.
So, as an active SM-G900V user I can say:
1. There's no better firmware than a lightly debloated stock TW ROM.
2. A normal, usual user should not use a rooted phone as a daily driver. Rooted phone demands much more attention than a normal device to keep it in working state.
3. I personally don't use rooted phones even if I can root them.
4. CID11 (Toshiba EMMC) seems to be more reliable than CID15 (Samsung EMMC). N.B.: I'm sure, but it's only my observation.
5. You can install many good ROMs on CID11 phone, but you're limited to TW.
6. SafeStrap is not a root substitution but a way to flash a custom ROM to your phone.
So, CID11 phone and unrooted MM is my choice.
But if you cannot live without root and still want to find a CID15 phone, you may want to look at this and this threads.
So I assume you run the stock MM with safestrap, and used a debloat zip through safestrap to debloat? If there is an already debloated stock MM rom I'm not seeing it, but this place has so many similar subforums and outdated stickies it's really confusing now.
I agree with you about using non-rooted stock DD. On my USC S5, I have multirom that lets me switch back and forth between that and LOS by just rebooting and I have the best of both worlds at my fingertips. But I do use the unrooted but debloated TW most.

I run "almost stock" MM even WITHOUT safestrap for everyday use.
This is because some applications (mostly bank applications) do not run on the phone with safestrap installed.
But safestrap is used for flashing process.
I use this ROM in unrooted variant as my daily driver.
This ROM is nice too.
Of course, only system partition is altered. Bootloader, modem, kernel remain stock from SM-G900V.
Did you ever run Havoc OS or put multiboot on your USC S5 variant? You might give it a try on this new one. I too did a few S5 emmc11? or so and had to safestrap them. I have 2 here now that are Verizon variants im needing new screens for and not sure what they are on. Should hopefully be ok and older binary.
